Lois M. Dunn

NATURITA - Lois M. Dunn, age 87, of Naturita, went peacefully to meet her Lord Monday morning, April 2, 2001, at her home in Naturita.
Lois Margart Hall, the youngest of 10 children, was born on Dec. 5, 1913, at Ordway, Colo., the daughter of John B. Hall and Martha (Potect) Hall. She spent her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood in Crowley, Colo.
On Dec. 7, 1935, Lois was joined in marriage with the love of her life, Carmie G. Dunn. Carmie preceded Lois is death on Feb. 2, 1984.
After their marriage, Lois and Carmie established their home in Manzanola, Colo., and they remained in the Arkansas Valley until moving to Pueblo. In 1955, Carmie and Lois moved to Naturita and managed Everybody's Market, now known as The Country Market, for 25 years.
Lois was always focused on her family and her church work. She enjoyed caring for others and for many years Lois spent time visiting with her adult children and their families in their homes. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with others.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and love to JoAnn and Mike Moore for the many years of devotion they have shown to our mother.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Lois' life, include three children: Dr. Jon Dunn and wife Kathy, of Manhattan, Kan.; Rev. James Dunn and wife Sherry, of Caldwell, Idaho; and Laura and husband Hugh McElroy, of Grand Junction.
Lois was the proud and loving grandmother of seven precious grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Daisy Mullinex, of Pueblo; and Ann White, of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Along with both of her parents and her beloved husband, Carmie, Lois was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Lois' life will be officiated by Pastors Jim Moore and Walt Wagner on Friday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Penecostal Church of God in Naturita.
Interment will follow the service in the Norwood Cemetery
at Norwood.

Frederick L. Murray
Retired Accountant
June 2, 1924 - April 4, 2001
ECKERT - Frederick L. "Fred" Murray, age 76, of Eckert, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at his home in Eckert.
Frederick L. Murray, the son of Frederick and Elizabeth (Schonvisky) Murray, was born on June 2, 1924, in Johnstown, Pa., where he spent his childhood years, received his education, and grew to adulthood.
During World War II, Fred served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942 until 1945.
In June of 1945, he was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Lila Hunter in Ely, Nev. They were the parents of three children and would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year in June.
Prior to his retirement in 1983, Fred was employed as an accountant with Kennecott Copper Corporation in Hayden, Ariz., for 36 years.
Fred and Lila made their home in Kearny, Ariz., until moving to Eckert in December of 1998 where they remained until the time of Fred's death.
He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Masonic Lodge.
Fred loved and treasured all his family and friends. He also enjoyed reading and astronomy.
Surviving family members very grateful to share Fred's life include his wife, Lila Murray, of Eckert; one son, Donald Murray and wife Theresa, of Aurora; and one daughter, Betty and husband Richard Garrett, of Eckert.
Fred was the proud and loving grandfather of six precious grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Michael Garman and wife Jan, of Barrinton Hills, Ill.; and one daughter-in-law, Barbara Murray.
Fred was preceded in death by both of his parents and one son, Gerald Murray.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Fred's life will be officiated on Thursday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Inurnment will follow the service in the Mesa View Cemetery
at Delta.

Leland 'Gene' Brashers
Retired Safeway Meat Manager
Nov. 19, 1933 - April 7, 2001
DELTA - Leland "Gene" Brashers, age 67, a resident of Delta for 25 years, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at his home in Delta.
Leland Brashers was born in Sargents, Colo., on Nov. 19, 1933, the son of Leroy Brashers and Ethel (Garrett) Brashers. He spent his childhood years in Wiley and Gunnison, Colo., graduating from the Gunnison High School with the class of 1950.
During the Korean Conflict, Gene proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp.
On July 7, 1977, he was joined in marriage with Delores Romero. Gene and Delores had the joy of celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary last year in July.
Prior to his retirement as a meat manager from Safeway in 1996, Gene was employed with Safeway for 37 years.
The loves in Gene's life that brought him so much joy was the Denver Broncos football team and his grandchildren.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Gene's life include his wife, Delores Brashers, of Delta; seven sons: Mike Valdez and wife Celeste, of Delta; Frank Valdez III and wife Shauna, of Grand Junction; Ben Valdez and wife Madelin, of Graham, Wash.; Frank Valdez Jr., of Delta; Rick Brashers, of Sparks, Nev.; Ed Brashers and wife Evonne, of Colorado Springs; Don Brashers and wife Anderenia, of Olathe; and three daughters: Cindy Valdez, of Delta; Terri and husband Kim Rulie, of Parachute; and Vicky and husband Carl Johnson, of Montrose.
Gene was the proud, loving, and doting grandfather of 13 precious grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Leroy Brashers and wife Zola, of Bakersfield, Calif.; and two sisters: Eunice Waters, of Canon City; and Vera Soden, of Ft. Collins.
Gene was preceded in death by both of his parents; four brothers: Clark, Walter, Ernie, and Louis Brashers; and one sister, Hazel Hicks.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Delta Taylor Funeral Service Chapel, followed by a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Gene's life will be officiated on Wednesday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Gunnison Cemetery
at Gunnison, with Military Graveside Rites being conducted by the American Legion Post No. 54 and V.F.W. Post No. 4267, both of Gunnison.

Stewart Kenley Collins
Retired Rancher
Sept. 24, 1919 - April 4, 2001
CRAWFORD - Stewart Kenley Collins, age 81, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in the Willow Tree Nursing Home at Delta.
Born on Sept. 24, 1919, in Ridgway, Colo., Stewart Kenley Collins was the son of Allen and Elizabeth (Stewart) Collins.
He grew up in the Crawford area, attending school in Crawford and later in Clear Fork when the family moved to the present ranch. Stewart graduated from Crawford High School on May 19, 1939.
He spent his entire life in the Crawford vicinity, working on the ranch, raising sheep and cattle in the later years.
Stewart was a member of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association and Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807.
Among the loves in Stewart's life that brought him joy and happiness included the outdoors, riding, and most of all people. It could be said that visiting was Stewart's hobby.
Surviving family members very grateful to share Stewart's life include two nieces: Jennie Collins, of Houston, Texas; Dana and husband Larry Irwen, of Delta; and one nephew, Tom Patton, of Grand Junction.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, Bruce Collins; and one sister, Margaret Patton.
Graveside Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Stewart's life will be officiated on Thursday, April 19, at 2 p.m. in the Garden of Memories Cemetery
at Crawford.

Jack LaVern Whittum
Loved Horses

DELTA - Jack LaVern Whittum, age 66, of Delta, died Friday, March 30, 2001, in the Delta Care Center.
Jack LaVern Whittum was born in South Bend, Wash., on Oct. 18, 1934, the son of Clarence Alfred Whittum and Dwyilla May (Cook) Whittum. He spent his childhood years, received his education, and grew to adulthood in Edgemoore, Idaho.
In the 1950s, Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He married Emily Ann Schreiber, with the marriage ending in divorce in 1983. She preceded Jack in death in 2000.
On June 11, 2000, Jack was joined in marriage with Lynda Faye Cole.
He lived in Washington and California before moving to Colorado in 1960. Ten years ago Jack moved to Delta County where he made his home until the time of his death.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator in construction.
Jack was a member of Local No. 9 Union.
The loves in Jack's live that brought him happiness during his 66 years of life included fishing, barbecues, snowmobiling, and visiting with his family and friends. Jack had a great love for horses!
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Jack's life include his wife, Lynda Faye Whittum, of Delta; one son, Lydon Jon Whittum, of Atwater, Calif.; five daughters: Debra Lea Jones, of Atwood, Calif.; Randis Rae Jatko, of Thornton; Judith Gay Wallis, of Springville, Utah; Jennifer Kay Edwards, of Grand Junction; Malisa Sue Sonju, of Castle Rock; and 13 precious grandchildren.
Other family survivors include four sisters: Donna J. Milan, of Algona, Wash.; Jeanette Workman, of Haxton; Sue Kunan, of Yoder; Sandy Kunan, of Calhan; and two brothers-in-law: Roger Powell, of Delta; and Ralph Milan, of Algona, Wash.
Along with his first wife, Emily, who died on March 24, 2000; Jack was also preceded in death by both of his parents.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Jack's life will be officiated by Tom Leach on Wednesday, April 4, at 1 p.m. at 610 Riley Lane in Delta, where the service will conclude.
Cremation has taken place.

Frank Valencia Rocha
Decorated World War II Veteran

MONTROSE - Frank Valencia Rocha, age 78, a resident of Montrose for most of his lifetime, died following an extended illness Friday evening, March 30, 2001, at his home in Montrose.
Frank Valencia Rocha, the son of Macario Rocha and Francisa B. (Valencia) Rocha, was born on July 9, 1922, in Cory, Colo. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in the Delta/Montrose area, making Montrose his home until the time of his death.
On Jan. 9, 1942, Frank was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Nellie Martinez at Montrose, Colo. Frank and Nellie were privileged to share 59 wonderful years together.
During World War II, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. He was honored with the following service medals: New Guinea Bismarck Archipelago Southern Philippines Luzon GO 33 WD 45, Bronze Service Arrowhead Pacific Theater Cir 465 WD 45, the Good Conduct Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars.
Prior to his retirement, Frank was employed for approximately 36 years with Walker & Krill Construction.
His greatest pleasure in life was his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them. Frank also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and a favorite pastime was reading western novels.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Frank's life include his wife, Nellie M. Rocha, of Montrose; five sons: Frank M. Rocha, of Montrose; Johnnie L. Rocha and wife Linda, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Anthony Rocha; Enrique Navarrete and Angela; Felipe Navarrete, all of Montrose; and six daughters: Mary C. and husband LeRoy Ortega; Christiana and husband Juan Mayboca; Georgiana and husband Charlie Russell; Cindy S. Rocha; Maria Elena Rocha, all of Montrose; and Lola J. Rocha, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Frank was the proud and loving grandfather of nine precious grandchildren: Daniel L. Rocha and wife Micci, Manuelita Garay, LeRoy T. Ortega and wife Jeannette, Desiree Ortega, John V. Rocha, Carmelita Rocha, Marco Mayboca, Nicholas R. Ladage and Bonnie Burr, Vanessa Ocha; five stepgrandchildren, the children of JoAnn Garcia; eight great-grandchildren: Alycia Navarrete; Victoria, Carina, Arecelle Garay; Shelby Marie Ortega, Joshua Jacob Ladage, Michaela Rhea Ladage, Benny Johnnie Rocha; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, LaBrena Garcia.
Other family survivors include four brothers: Joe V. Rocha, of Montrose; Armando V. Rocha, of Kerns, Utah; Norman V. Rocha, of Denver; Rudy V. Rocha, of Arizona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by both of his parents; two sons: Henry Joseph Rocha and Daniel Lee Rocha; and two brothers: Arthur V. Rocha and Robert V. Rocha.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow the service in the Cedar Cemetery

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother

MONTROSE - Rose Theresa Carrano, age 82, a resident of Montrose
since 1979, died early Thursday morning, March 29, 2001, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital at Montrose.
Born on May 6, 1918, in New York City, N.Y., Rose Theresa Cagliostro was the daughter of Michele Cagliostro and Domenica (Tripodi) Cagliostro. She received her education and graduated from high school in Brooklyn, N.Y.
On June 1, 1941, Rose was joined in marriage with Carlo Carrano in Brooklyn, N.Y. Carlo preceded Rose in death in 1967.
Rose was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Montrose and the Belles of St. Mary.
She especially enjoyed her crochet club. Rose's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren adored her. She so enjoyed her little ones. They all gave her great pleasure during her lifetime. When we lost Rose, we all lost a great friend.
Surviving family members very grateful to share Rose's life include three children: Michael Carrano, Domenica Martinez, and Frances Bollinger.
Rose was the proud, loving, and doting grandmother of two granddaughters: Carla Tafoya and Jaime Carrano; eight grandsons: Christopher, Kevin, Daniel, and Matthew Bollinger; Joseph Stenger, Johnny Engel, Jerry Martinez, Mikey Carrano; and six great-grandchildren: Richard and Theresa Tafoya, Domenica and Joseph Stenger, and Alexandra and Jonathon Engel.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Joe Cagliostro, of California; and Lou Cagliostro, of Pennsylvania.
Public visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the vigil on Wednesday, April 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. Vigil for the deceased will be recited at 7 p.m. at the chapel.
Funeral Mass in loving remembrance and to honor Rose's life will be officiated by The Rev. Dan Huber on Thursday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Montrose.
Rite of Committal will follow the Mass in Grand View Cemetery

Betty G. Baker
97-Yr.-Old Eckert Resident
March 27, 1904 - April 1, 2001
ECKERT - Betty G. Baker, age 97, a resident of Eckert for the past three years, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert.
Betty G. Guida, the daughter of Geraldo and Beatrice Guida, was born on March 27, 1904, in Denver, Colo., where she spent her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
Betty was married in Pueblo, Colo., to Harry Baker, who preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker as well as being employed with Safeway.
Betty lived in Omaha, Neb., until moving to Eckert three years ago where she remained until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Catholic faith.
Survivors very grateful to share Betty's life include one niece, Yvonne Sowell, of Cedaredge; and two great-nephews: Doug Fritz, of Hotchkiss; and Perry Smith, of Denver.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Betty's life were officiated by Rev. Don Anderson on Tuesday, April 3, at 10 a.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. The service concluded at the chapel.
Interment will be held in the Mount Olivet Cemetery
at Denver.

Lorraine Dibbern

ECKERT - Lorraine Dibbern, age 87, of Eckert, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital at Delta.
Born on Feb. 21, 1914, in Grand Island, Neb., Lorraine Hann was the daughter of Emil and Amanda (Beberniss) Hann.
Lorraine was joined in marriage with Harvey Dibbern on March 20, 1935, in Grand Island, Neb. Their union was blessed with one daughter.
In 1978, the Dibberns moved to Eckert, Colo., where Lorraine made her home until the time of her death.
Lorraine will be fondly remembered as a loving homemaker and grandmother. She especially found joy in tending her wonderful rose garden.
Surviving family members very grateful to share Lorraine's life include two grandsons: Doug Jarrett, of Delta; Craig Jarrett, of Utah; three great grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bert Hann, of California.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Harvey, Lorraine was also preceded in death by one daughter, Dor Jean Jarrett.
