Excellent Mother, Grandmother
April 18, 1920 - Jan. 28, 2001
MONTROSE - Evelyn Pearl Krill, age 80, a resident of Montrose most of her life, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2001, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital. Before and when she died Evelyn had both of her daughters, Debra and Denise, by her side, which meant so much to her.
Evelyn Pearl Kay was born in LeClaire, Iowa on April 18, 1920, the daughter of Henry Madison Kay and Laura Pearl (Spoo) Kay. As a young child, Evelyn moved with her family from LeClaire, Iowa to Montrose, where they established their home and she graduated from Montrose County High School.
On Oct. 2, 1949, Evelyn was joined in marriage with Edward Krill at Montrose, Colo. They were the parents of two daughters and had shared 23 together at the time of Edward's death on March 3, 1973, in Montrose.
During her younger years Evelyn worked for Hartman Brothers in Montrose and then was employed as a bookkeeper and cashier for Gay Johnson Restaurant, but foremost Evelyn was a mother and homemaker.
She lived all her lifetime in Montrose, except for 12 years when she lived in Douglas, Wyo. from 1984 to 1996 with one of her daughters. She then returned to Montrose where she remained until the time of her death.
Evelyn was an excellent mother and grandmother. She was a loving person and well liked. Her favorite pastime, love and hobby was crocheting, making many afghans, scarves, and doilies. She enjoyed putting together picture puzzles, and playing bingo and pool. A senior activity Evelyn greatly enjoyed was making ceramics. She made various ceramic items for her family members and herself.
Survivors who had the honor of sharing Evelyn's life include two daughters: Debra and husband David Miles, of Hollister, Calif.; Denise and husband Melvin Reeves, of Douglas, Wyo.; and one grandson, Kenneth Edward Covington, of Bowling Green, Ky.
Other family survivors include one brother, Nathan Kay, of San Rafael, Calif.; three sisters: Lila Mae Hensen, of Blackfoot, Idaho; Virginia Armour, of Montrose; Pauline Paschall, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Edward; and then her father.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Evelyn's life will be officiated by Pastor Mike Lundberg on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose.

Elizabeth M. Rowland
February 21, 1943 - January 27, 2001
In Loving Memory of Elizabeth M. Rowland, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved sewing and the outdoors.
Preceded in death by her mother, Celina Garcia and father, Tom Garcia.
Survived by her husband, Randall Rowland; son, Mark Martinez and wife Debbie; three daughters: Shaunna Maurer and husband Wayne; Sharon MCarthy; Felisia Major and husband Steve. Also 11 wonderful grandchildren: Micheal Garcia, Kassandra Martinez, Dylan Martinez, Alyssa McCarthy, Jordon McCarthy, Max Martinez, Tommy Martinez, Marie Martinez, Kristin Major, Ashley Major, Alicia Major. Sister, Carmel Gallegos and husband John and one brother, Marc Garcia.
We will all Love and Miss her.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

Joseph Francis Dantzman
Loved Living and Working in the Mountains of Colorado
May 21st., 1921 - January 17th., 2001
MONTROSE - Joseph Francis Dantzman, a long time resident of Montrose, passed on, at the age of 79 on January 17th. at 9:30 a.m., in Grand Junction at the V.A. Hospital.
Joe was born and raised in the North Woods of Wisconsin in the town of Exeland, to Alexander and Marie Dantzman, where he attended St. Joseph Catholic Church at La Belille Falls. He attended the Riverside School before moving to the Northwest in pursuit of his lifetime career in the Timber, interrupted only by his duty in the United States Army where he served in World War II and received an Honorable Discharge as a Disabled Veteran.
Moving to Colorado in the 1950's, Joe worked as a Timberfaller in the Curecanti Creek Wilderness. In the 60's he logged private ranches, US Forest land and the Northern Ute Indian Reservation. During the 1970's and 80's Joe logged and sawmilled mostly in Southwestern Colorado. In the late 90's, and up to his illness, Joe was involved in local firewood projects. He loved our mountains, but more, the people who needed him.
Joe's favorite times included his friends, photography and travel, especially visiting his daughter-in-law, Terry Brice Nash, in Pueblo every year to attend the Colorado State Fair.
Joe is survived by his former wife and loving friend, Shirley Dantzman-Brooks in Lakeport, California and her daughter, Carol and son, Lyle.
Joe's brothers and sister still living in Wisconsin are Rayner Dantzman and his wife, Grace, Exeland, Wisconsin; Francis Dantzman, Mequon, Wisconsin; Gerald Dantzman, King, Wisconsin; Theresa Denenny, Winter, Wisconsin; Marian Olson and her husband, Carl, Winter, Wisconsin; and RoseMarie Thalman, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Joe's brother, Norbert Dantzman and his wife, Bev, live in Crescent City, California and Joe's sister, Josephine Rainer and her husband, Ray, live in Jacksonville, Florida. His sister, Catherine Rankin is deceased.
Joe's death was preceeded by Ardyce Dantzman, mother of his 6 children; Tom Dantzman and his wife Kitty, living in National City, California; Roy Dantzman, living in Montrose, Colorado; Judy Linville-Workman and her husband, Robert, living in Olathe, Colorado; Valerie Eggleston, living in Montrose, Colorado; Adria Spann and her husband, Mike, living in Lubbock, Texas and his stepdaughter, Dianne Silbaugh and her husband, Darrell, living in Montrose, Colorado.
Joe and Ardyces' daughter, Marie Catherine, died in 1955.
"Grampa Joe" will be greatly missed by his 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His heart really went out to these young people.
An open Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 543 South 5th., Montrose, Colorado on Saturday, January 27th., at 2:00 p.m.
Following the Mass, a special time to share your love for Joe Dantzman and those who loved him will take place at the Red Barn Restaurant, 1413 East Main, Montrose, Colorado.
A special Rosary by The Knights of Columbus, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Netha Alma Macfarlane
Beloved Mother of Nine Children
Nov. 19, 1905 - Jan. 24, 2001
CEDAREDGE - Netha A. Macfarlane, age 95, of Cedaredge, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital at Delta.
Born on Nov. 19, 1905, in Berthoud, Colo., Netha Alma Milner was the daughter of Joseph and Alma (Patton) Milner.
On March 11, 1926, Netha was joined in marriage with Charles Macfarlane. Their lives together were blessed when they became the parents of nine children. Charles preceded Netha in death.
Netha was very active in many community and senior citizen activities. She was a member of the Elberta Rebekah Lodge No. 149 of Cedaredge, the Cedar Mesa Women's Club, the Cowbells Club, and was currently serving as a board member for Camp Courage.
Special interests that brought Netha happiness were crocheting and making quilts for her family and friends.
Survivors very grateful to share Netha's life include two sons: Donald Leroy Macfarlane, of Camp Verde, Ariz.; Robert L. Macfarlane, of Delta; and six daughters: Dixie Zadena Loucks, of Fort Collins; Alma Estelle Mayberry and Josephine D. Decker, both of Delta; Janet Mary Gage, of Arizona, Patricia Ann Siebert, of Colorado Springs; and Marjorie Jean Macfarlane, of Grand Junction.
Netha was the proud grandmother of 34 precious grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Fern Iris Woliver, of Loveland.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Charles, Netha was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Daniel Macfarlane; two sisters: Cleo Wild and Enid Milner; and one brother, Paul Milner.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary in Delta.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Netha's life will be officiated by Pastor Lee Ponder on Friday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedaredge Cemetery
at Cedaredge.

Irene Genevieve Rozman
Paonia Homemaker
Dec. 8, 1923 - Jan. 23, 2001
PAONIA - Irene Genevieve Rozman, age 77, the widow of a World War II veteran, a homemaker, and a resident of Paonia since 1979, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital at Grand Junction.
Irene Genevieve Morrow was born on Dec. 8, 1923, in Crested Butte, Colo., the daughter of Curtis Morrow and Irene (Ball) Morrow. Irene lost her mother at an early age and was raised by Curt's second wife, Blanche. She spent her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood in Crested Butte.
Irene was very active in high school in the drama department and even traveled to Indiana to the National Thespians "First National Drama Workshop" for high schools across America. She was the class historian and poet and won a scholarship to Barns School of Commerce in Denver.
Irene married Albert "Tony" Rozman in May of 1941. In 1943 she visited Somerset to be with her parents when son Al was born and Tony was in Camp Pickett Military Hospital in Virginia. They moved to Denver when Tony was discharged and resided there until 1949. Thereafter they returned to Somerset where Tony sought employment in the coal mines.
Irene was active with her "boys" in camping out, fishing and hunting (having shot the largest bull elk brought into the Paonia locker one year at 480 lbs. - dressed out weight). She was also active and "Mom" to many athletes at Paonia High School, hauling wrestling team and baseball team members to sporting events in her station wagon.
After her war veteran husband's death at the age of 50 in 1968, she ventured to San Diego, Calif., from 1972 to 1979, where she attended Grossmont Community College, obtaining her "Dental Assistant" degree.
In 1979, Irene moved back to Paonia until 2001, occupying her father's former house at 240 Colorado until she eventually succummed to diabetes, so that in her later years she was forced to give up socializing with her friends and outings to the mountains she so dearly loved.
She was a member of the Ladies Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
Irene adored pets, plants, crafts and books and played the piano at home. She was an active poet in high school and in September 1985 Irene penned a poem entitled "The Book" about the Bible which won the Golden Poet Award in 1990 from the International Society of Poets.
Survivors very grateful to share Irene's life include two sons: Al Rozman, of Paonia; Ed Rozman, of Grand Junction; five precious grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Lois Frost, of Prescott, Ariz.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Tony; Irene was also preceded in death by two sons: Jim Rozman, who died at the age of 16 in 1962; and Tommy Lee Rozman, who died in 1947 shortly after birth.
Graveside Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Irene's life will be officiated by The Rev. Alex Danowski on Friday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia.

Gladys A. Errickson
Junior High School Teacher
March 11, 1910 - Jan. 24, 2001
MONTROSE - Gladys A. Errickson, age 90, a retired junior high school teacher and a resident of Montrose, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, 2001, at Carla's Assisted Living in Montrose.
Gladys A. Earley, the daughter of Nathan R. and Esther (Atkinson) Earley, was born on March 11, 1910, in Mount Holly, N.J. She spent her childhood years in Vincentown, N.J., graduated from high school in Pemberton, N.J, and continued her education at a college in Glassboro, N.J.
In June of 1946, Gladys was joined in marriage with Harold Errickson. Harold preceded Gladys in death in 1975 in New Jersey. She was previously married to Floyd Lippincott in October of 1932. Floyd preceded Gladys in death in 1945 in New Jersey.
Gladys moved from Jobstown, N.J., to Montrose in 1993 where she made her home until the time of her own death.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in New Jersey and was a former member of the Historical Society in Vincentown, N.J. and the New Jersey Ladies Auxiliary in Jobstown, N.J.
Among the loves in Gladys' life that brought her happiness included flower gardening, entertaining, and reading.
Survivors who had the honor of sharing Gladys' life include one son, Roger Lippincott and wife Tedda, of Jobstown, N.J.; one daughter, Claire and husband Lyndon Flowers, of Montrose; four precious grandchildren: Rebecca and husband Kenneth Balkump, of Germany; Gregory Flowers and wife Pamela, of Texas; Scott Lippincott and wife Kristin; Brian Lippincott and wife Danni, all of New Jersey; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to both of her parents and both of her husbands, Gladys was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance of Gladys' life will be officiated by Pastor Paul Parsons on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel.

Jason Lee Manspeaker
Colorado State Patrol Trooper
Feb. 19, 1975 - Jan. 23, 2001
SILVERTHORNE - Former Montrose resident and Colorado State Patrol Trooper, Jason Lee Manspeaker, age 25, of Silverthorne, was killed in the line of duty Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in rural Clear Creek County.
Jason Lee Manspeaker was born on Feb. 19, 1975 at Montrose, Colo., the son of Ray Earl and Donna Jean (Silver) Manspeaker. Growing up, Jason loved working on the farm with his uncle and grandpa. While attending Montrose High School, he spent four years in the Navy ROTC program and graduated with the class of 1993. He also achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. He continued to pursue his education at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, where he played football and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1998.
Jason worked with the K-9 unit training dogs out of Montrose between 1992 and 1997.
On Jan. 25, 1997, he married Stephanie Jo Hoey at Montrose, Colo. He fulfilled a childhood dream on Dec. 10, 1999, becoming a law enforcement officer when he graduated from the Colorado State Patrol Academy. He was highly proficient with firearms and was the range officer for his troop.
After graduation, Jason and Stephanie moved to Silverthorne where they made their home until the time of Jason's death.
Jason loved hunting, four-wheeling, and playing golf. The love of his life was spending time with Stephanie and his family.
Survivors so very grateful to share Jason's life include his wife, Stephanie Manspeaker, of Silverthorne; his father, Ray Manspeaker, of Montrose; his mother, Donna Manspeaker, also of Montrose; one brother, Allen Manspeaker, of Clifton; his in-laws, Keith and Shelley Hoey, of Montrose; one brother-in-law, Pryce Hoey, his wife, Nicole, and their son, Nate, of Olathe; his grandparents: Arthella Manspeaker, of Grand Junction; and David Silver, of Olathe; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Public viewing for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 26, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction.
Funeral Services in honor and loving remembrance of Jason's life and to say farewell will be officiated on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Fellowship Church, 765 24 Road, in Grand Junction.
Interment will follow the service in the Orchard Mesa Cemetery

George Daniel Washington
World War II Veteran

MONTROSE - George Daniel "Dan" Washington, of Montrose, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 23, 2001, at his home.
George Daniel Washington was born on Aug. 24, 1922, in Fort Collins, Colo., the son of George Samuel and Thelma N. Washington.
The family moved to the Olathe area in 1935, where he graduated with the Class of 1942 from the Olathe High School.
During World War II, Dan proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp from Feb. 23, 1943 through Oct. 22, 1945.
Dan married Wilma Pauline Weeks on Jan. 14, 1946. They lived in Alamosa and Grand Junction while he was employed with Safeway.
Dan returned to the Olathe area in 1953 and lived and worked on a farm on California Mesa until 1978. He then moved to his present home, working for the Delta County Independent, the Grand Junction Sentinel, and Russell Stovers Candies, Inc.
Survivors very grateful to share Dan's life include one son, Michael Washington, of Olathe; one daughter, Deborah Cobb, of Aurora; and four precious grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Donald Washington, of Grand Junction; William Washington, of Taos, N.M.; and one sister, Jean West, of Grand Junction.
In addition to both of his parents, Dan was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; and two children: Samuel Reed and Susan Marie Washington.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Dan's life will be officiated by Pastor Mike Lundberg on Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. at the Montrose Valley Baptist Church.

Carl A. Farnsworth
World War II Veteran
Aug. 9, 1911 - Jan. 27, 2001
MURTAUGH, Idaho - Former Paonia resident, Carl A. Farnsworth, age 89, a resident of Murtaugh, Idaho since 1997, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in the Cassia County Regional Medical Center at Burley, Idaho.
Born in Colnia Garcia, Mexico, on Aug. 9, 1911, Carl A. Farnsworth was the son of Ernest Laffayete and Edith Caroline (Nielson) Farnsworth. He was one of 12 children born to the Farnsworths. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in Mexico.
On Dec. 21, 1935, Carl was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Eva Elma Haynie in Douglas, Ariz. Carl and Eva were the parents of four sons and had the joy of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary last month.
During World War II, Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army.
The Farnsworths made their home in the following locations: Paonia from 1961 to 1973, Murtaugh, Idaho from 1973 to 1975, and Downing, Mo. from 1975 to 1997. In 1997 they returned to Murtaugh, Idaho, where they made their home until the time of Carl's death.
Prior to his retirement, Carl was engaged in ranching.
He was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Paonia. He held the office of High Priest, did Missionary work for many years, and held numerous other offices in his church over the years.
Carl enjoyed having his own private pilot's license and especially enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding bucking horses.
Survivors very grateful to share Carl's life include his wife, Eva Elma Farnsworth, of Murtaugh, Idaho; and four sons: C. Larry Farnsworth, of Unity, Maine; Jack Haynie Farnsworth and wife Ellen, of Murtaugh, Idaho; Fred Lee Farnsworth and wife Sandy, of Morgan Hill, Calif.; and E. Lynn Farnsworth and wife Karen, of Roswell, Ga.
Carl was the proud grandfather of 20 precious grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include three brothers: Grant Farnsworth and wife Ellen, of Paonia; Elmo Farnsworth and wife Elnora, of St. George, Utah; and Doug Farnsworth and wife Hellen, of Pima, Ariz.
Carl was preceded in death by both of his parents, four sisters, four brothers, and one grandson.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 1, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Paonia LDS Church.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Carl's life will be officiated on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Paonia.
Interment will follow the service in the Riverside Cemetery

Dewey Nelle Classi
A Fantastic Hostess

CEDAREDGE - Longtime Brewster, Kan. resident and businesswoman, Dewey Nelle Classi, age 82, of Cedaredge, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2001, at Heidi's Chateau in Montrose.
Dewey Nelle Brown, the daughter of Clair and Freeda (Eckles) Brown, was born on Sept. 29, 1918, at McDonald, Kan. She spent her childhood years in Kansas and received her high school education in Brewster, Kan., where she grew to adulthood.
On May 20, 1939, Dewey Nelle was joined in marriage with Joseph Domnick Classi in Los Angeles, Calif. Their lives together were blessed with three children. Dewey Nelle and Joe owned and operated Classi Grocery in Brewster, Kan., for many years. They shared 34 years of marriage before Joe's death on March 20, 1974.
In May 2000, Dewey Nelle moved from Brewster, Kan. to Cedaredge to be closer to her family. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Heidi's Chateau, a care center, in Montrose.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Brewster, Kan., and belonged to a bridge club, a craft club, and a sorority.
Dewey Nelle loved playing bridge, gardening, and cooking. She will be fondly remember for being such a fantastic hostess and her great love for her pets.
Survivors very grateful to share Dewey Nelle's life include two sons: Jerry J. Classi and wife Lavon, of Ridgway; Anthony C. "Tony" Classi, of Laramie, Wyo.; one daughter, Teri N. and husband Ben Baker, of New Jersey; six precious grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Other family survivors include one sister, Leslie Sullivan, of Texas.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Joe, Dewey Nell was also preceded in death by one brother.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Dewey Nelle's life will be officiated on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of the Cross in Cedaredge. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Inurnment will be held before the service in Kansas at 9:30 a.m., Central time, on Friday, Feb. 2, in the Brewster Cemetery
at Brewster, Kan.
A concluding Memorial Service will follow inurnment on Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., Central time, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brewster, Kan. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose; (970) 249-2121.
