Goldie Koenig (1/13/2006)
Former Durango resident Goldie Koenig, 81, died in Farmington on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006. The cause of death was not disclosed.
She was born in Pagosa Springs to Charles and Margaret (Minium) Bachman in April 1924. She married Norman Koenig in Aztec in 1943.
The Koenigs lived in Durango until 1975, when they moved to Cortez and then to Aztec in 1988.
She enjoyed doing needle crafts and working on puzzles.
Mrs. Koenig was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Koenig; son Norman Koenig Jr.; and daughter Cathrine Merril.
She is survived by her son Clyde Koenig; daughters Peggy Wallace, Patricia Hall, Bessie Comstock, Norma Collom and Myrna Whright; sisters Frances Eldridge and Bessie Hobbs; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today, Jan. 13, 2006, at Cope Memorial Chapel, 405 S. Main Ave., in Aztec. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Bethal Baptist Church, 201 Heiland Road in Aztec. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Randell and the Rev. Charles Martin officiating.
Ronald L. Moran (1/12/2006)
Bayfield resident Ronald L. Moran, 56, died at his home on Dec. 24, 2005. The cause of death was severe coronary heart disease.
Mr. Moran was born to Robert and Theresa Moran in Lexington, Mich., on April 21, 1949.
He served in Vietnam and traveled extensively before settling in the mountains of Colorado.
Mr. Moran is survived by his brother, Paul Moran, of Gaylord, Mich.; sisters Karen Biskey, of Croswell, Mich., and Penny Geese, of Saginaw, Mich.; five nieces and one nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell, Mich. The Rev. Barry Sheldon will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion in Croswell, Mich., or to a charity of your choice.

William Charles Olson (1/12/2006)
The son of Durango resident Lloyd Olson, William Charles Olson, 63, died on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at his home in Fergus Falls, Minn. The cause of death was cancer.
Mr. Olson was born to Lloyd and Doris (Stiles) Olson on Jan. 29, 1942, in Fargo, N.D., and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1960. In 1962, he graduated with a degree in printing from Wahpeton School of Science.
During the years after college, Mr. Olson worked in the Keno silver mines in Alaska, and as a printer in Farmington; Moorhead, Minn., and Lewiston, Mont.
In 1964, he married Sandra Wolf in New Leipzig, N.D.
In 1976, Mr. Olson took a job as a driver at UPS in Lewistown, Mont. He worked there for 26 years, retiring in 2001. In Lewistown, Mr. Olson was active in softball, umpiring, shooting and woodworking. He umpired at many state softball tournaments. His family said he became a talented woodworker, making many treasured gifts for his family and friends.
In 2000, Mr. Olson married his high-school sweetheart, Mary Ellen (Jones) Western at Swan Lake in Fergus Falls, Minn. He bought a 1938 Chevy and joined two classic car clubs, The Uninvited and The Classic Car Club. He served as the president of the latter in 2005.
Mr. Olson also worked as a printer with the Rollag Steam Thresherman's Reunion and the Dalton Steam Thresherman's Reunion, where he was instrumental in restoring a Linotype machine that had not been in use for many years.
In the last few years, he was employed as a driver for Nelson Ford & Nelson Dodge in Fergus Falls as well as a driver for TS Recreational Salvage in Pelican Rapids, Minn.
In addition to his father, Mr. Olson is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Olson, of Fergus Falls, Minn.; son Kevin Olson of Saugerties, N.Y.; daughters Kim Hall of Sand Point, Idaho, and Kersten Baycroft of Spokane, Wash.; stepson Todd Simison of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; brothers Jim Olson of Lewis and Tom Olson of Fargo, N.D.; sister Betty Peterson of Taylorville, Utah; four grandchildren; and a niece and several nephews.
Visitation will take place at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Another visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Federated Church, also in Fergus Falls. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Wyoma Jean Richards (1/12/2006)
Pagosa Springs resident Wyoma Jean Richards, 67, died at her home on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006. The cause of death was not disclosed.
She was born in Read to Jack and Mabel Randall on Nov. 10, 1938, and married William "Tom" Richards on June 16, 1957.
During her husband's many years in law enforcement - 30 years with the Colorado State Patrol and now in his fourth term as the Archuleta County Sheriff - her family said she was a loving and dedicated wife.
Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by her son Jackie Richards.
She is survived by her husband, William Richards of Pagosa Springs; daughter, Mary Emmert; son William Richards; siblings Wes Randall, Charlene Bryan, Bud Randall, Tommy Randall, Jackie Randall, Carol Morgan and Grada Randall; and four grandchildren.
A service will be held at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 225 South Pagosa Blvd., at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2006. Burial will follow at the Bayfield Cemetery.

Alma Irene Woolford (1/12/2006)
Alma Irene Woolford, the mother of Durango resident Mary Lou Moores, died in Durango on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006. She was 104.
Mrs. Woolford had moved to Durango recently to live near her daughter.
She was born to Harry and Mary Todd in Wingo, Ken., on Sept. 2, 1901. When she was young, her family moved to Koshkenong, Mo., where she was raised.
As a young single woman, Mrs. Woolford became fascinated with Colorado. Having no money for transportation, she and her best friend became "Harvey Girls" and were sent to the "Harvey House" in La Junta. Because she lacked experience as a waitress, and received no training before her assignment to wait tables, she became disillusioned and quit.
On May 14, 1921, she married W. Claude Woolford in Denver. They ran a grocery store there until Mr. Woolford began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad in La Junta.
Upon his retirement, they moved to Palmer Lake, and then back to La Junta in 1966. Mrs. Woolford was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in La Junta.
Mrs. Woolford was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Woolford; and her daughters Betty Brown and Barbara Hough.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her half-sisters Erma Ball of West Plains, Mo., Clara Butler of Gladstone, Mo., Exie Hollin of Kansas City, Kan., and Margie Riggs of Oak Grove, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation has occurred. A graveside burial of ashes will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at La Junta Cemetery. The Rev. Ronald Skorick will officiate.

Kevin Ray Preciado (1/12/2006)
A gathering to remember the life of Kevin Ray Preciado, 41, who died in Bayfield on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Gosney Arena in Bayfield. Those attending should bring photos, memories, a potluck dish and beverage.
Bonna Lee Cromeens (1/11/2006)
A woman who left a legacy of entrepreneurship and love of nature, Bonna Lee Cromeens, 79, died at her home on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006. She had survived breast cancer eight years ago, but the radiation treatments destroyed her bone marrow and ultimately led to her death.
She and her husband, Walter Lueders, moved to Durango in 1993 to join her two daughters. The couple quickly became established here, with Mr. Lueders managing a ranch for showing quarter horses.
Mrs. Cromeens was born to Halla and Dave Johnson on May 30, 1926, in Archie, Mo.
Her first job was at the age of 13, running the elevator at J.C. Penney Co. Inc. and making $13 a week. Her mother made her save all her money and she bought new clothes to enter high school. The next summer, she worked in the new cafeteria. Having seen the benefits of hard work, she wanted to quit school and join the work force, but her mother made her stay in school.
Mrs. Cromeens graduated from high school at the age of 16 in 1942.
During World War II, she worked alongside her father at an aircraft plant making B-29 bombers. After the war, her mother contracted rheumatoid arthritis, and the next several years were spent moving to seek treatment for her. The treatment gave Mrs. Johnson leukemia, so Mrs. Cromeens left her job in Dallas to care for her mother.
After her mother's death and some time spent helping her father get back on his feet, she returned to Dallas. At a Sadie Hawkins dance, she met Franklin Cromeens. Three months later, they married. It was 1953, and Mr. Cromeens was serving as a helicopter pilot in the Korean War.
Mrs. Cromeens continued her interest in business, eventually earning a place in Who's Who of American Business Women. She and her husband bought their first business, Overhead Door Co., in Midland, Texas, in 1960. They went on to own restaurants, oil wells and other investments. In 1965, they created Crowbar, Inc., in El Paso, Texas. It grew to become the largest U.S. Postal contractor in the nation. The couple divorced in 1974.
In 1976, she married Walt Lueders. They opened a western store in El Paso, enjoyed showing quarter horses and training, riding and showing their horses. Three years later, they moved to Collinsville, Texas, creating a ranch filled with animals, flower beds and vegetable gardens. Their daughters said that it seemed like they had two of everything: horses, goats, miniature horses, cattle, chickens, pigeons and English Bulldogs.
Mrs. Cromeens' daughter, Yonna, credits her mother for teaching her the art of being a mother, giving her an entrepreneurial spirit and tenacity in the face of challenges. Her daughter Halla is thankful her mother showed her the beauty in nature, gave her a love of books and reading and taught her to nurture all creatures.
Mrs. Cromeens was preceded in death by her first husband, Franklin Cromeens.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Lueders, of Durango; daughters Yonna Moore and Halla Garrity, both of Durango; and one granddaughter.
Cremation has occurred. A celebration of Mrs. Cromeens' life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Hood Mortuary.
David Hanes (1/11/2006)
The father of Ignacio resident Gerald "Jerry" Hanes, David Hanes died in Mountain Home, Ark., on Dec. 23, 2005. He was 102.
He was born to David Q. and Nancy C. (Moore) Hanes on Aug. 9, 1903, in Wellington, Ill. His mother was the great-granddaughter of J.S. Moore, who established the first Methodist Church in Ohio, and her uncle, John S. Moore, established the first Methodist Church in central Illinois in the mid-1840s.
Christmas Eve would have been the 81st anniversary of his wedding to Elizabeth Schoen, which took place on Dec. 24, 1924 in Chicago. Since his wife had died 18 years ago, he had wanted to be with her.
Mr. Hanes worked for Commonwealth Edison in Chicago for 43 years in oil-switch repair, retiring as a supervisor. After his retirement, he and his wife traveled more than 300,000 miles in a number of travel trailers.
Mr. Hanes was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Hanes enjoyed reading. Louis L'Amour, Tony Hillerman and Tom Clancy were among his more recent favorite authors. He also liked to quote poems from memory. Robert Service was his favorite poet. Since he heard "Crossing the Bar" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson at a friend's funeral, he had been working on memorizing it. The poem will be read at his memorial service near Ignacio in April when his ashes are scattered in the same place where his wife's ashes were spread. The Rev. Jeff Huber will officiate.
Mr. Hanes is survived by his sons Gerald Hanes of Ignacio, Marvin Hanes of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Harold Hanes of Boulder, Nev.; daughter Oral Olson of Mountain Home, Ark.; brother Sam "Casey" Hanes, 98; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Frankie L. Bellino (1/11/2006)
A man who was active in the community, Frankie L. Bellino, 58, died at Mercy Medical Center on Jan. 9, 2006.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
He was born in Durango to Frank and Madeline Bellino on March 12, 1947. Mr. Bellino was raised on the family ranch and graduated from Durango High School.
He worked at the local sale barn with his father and friends for many years. He also farmed for many people in the county and ran a paper route. Mr. Bellino had been a school-bus driver for the Ignacio School District for the last 20 years.
He enjoyed working with cattle, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was active in the 4-H organization for many years as well as being a member of the Christopher Colombo Lodge.
Mr. Bellino was preceded in death by his daughter Rebecca Bellino.
He is survived by his daughters Trista Pontine of Bayfield and Tierney Bellino of Durango; son Trevor Bellino of Durango; brother Nick Bellino of Durango; sisters Annie Barlow and Rosalie Bellino, both of Denver; one granddaughter; and two nephews.
A funeral will be held at Ignacio High School at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2006. The Rev. Curt Alderton and the Rev. Raymond Dunton will officiate. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery.
