She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Garrett of Odessa, Texas; nieces, Kathy Jo (Max) Harrison of Lamar, Jodi (Joe) Traugott of Amarillo, Texas, Dona Meadows of Odessa, Texas and Lori Cooley of Abeline, Texas. She is also survived by nephews Jeff (Patsy) Garrett of Odessa, Texas and Corey Fay of Abeline, Texas as well as her aunt, Marie Hill of Lebanon, Missouri and numerous great nieces, nephews and many friends.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Beverly P. Wolfers, nephew Zeke Fay, brother-in-law J.R. Garrett and a great niece Chelsey Fay.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Lamar Area Hospice at P.O. Box 843, Lamar, CO 81052 or through the funeral home office.
Katherine Fay Andrews, better known to her family and friends as Kathy, was born to Edgar W. and Edith C. (Knapp) Andrews on April 9, 1942 in Camdenton, Missouri. She was the middle daughter of three girls; Carolyn being the oldest and Beverly, the youngest. Kathy passed away on April 25, 2007 at her home in Lamar following her courageous battle with cancer.
Kathy has been a resident of Lamar since 1949. She loved the community and was involved in various organizations over the years.
Following her graduation from Lamar High School in 1960, she moved to Denver to work for the airlines but soon after, her love for family, friends, and community brought her back to Lamar.
After returning to Lamar, Kathy worked for Augustine’s Feed Lot, Colorado Beef and finally WHO Manufacturing, where she was employed for over 30 years before retiring in 2007.
While Kathy loved being a career woman, she was definitely a social butterfly. Often times she could be seen out with her entourage who consisted of her two sisters, her brother-in-law and her mother. When she was ‘out and about’, Kathy could be found playing softball, tennis, reading, or watching Bronco’s football. Everyone who knew Kathy knew how much of a die hard Bronco’s fan she was. During any given game, she would go back and forth between hating the Broncos and loving them, but at the end of every game she was still a die hard fan.
In everything Kathy did, she was very strong willed, but that was largely in part due to the female side of the family dynamic. Between her mother, her two sisters and herself they were the four strongest women who left with us the strength and courage to carry on the legacy of our family.
Since Kathy didn’t have children of her own, her nieces and nephews were her pride and joy. Jeff, Jodi, Dana, Corey, Lori, Zeke and Kathy Jo, in her eyes, were the same as her children.
As much as she loved her family, she cherished all of her many friends. Kathy was strong, smart, stubborn, gentle, and caring and she will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Along with her parents, Richard and Lorene, she is survived by one daughter, Jessica May Strobel, (Billy) and granddaughter, Jamie Rae of Fort Collins, CO and one brother Monty Ray Thompson (Melissa) and children, Dalton and Garrett.

Melanney was a devoted mother and grandmother placing her daughter and granddaughter first and above all things. She enjoyed every minute she could spend with them. When they could not be together, she and Jessica had a set time on Saturday morning reserved for Saturday morning coffee by phone. Jamie Rae became the highlight of her life and there could not be enough time spent with her or enough pictures taken to share with friends and family. Jessica and her mother loved to just go shopping just to watch the people and drink coffee and had begun to train Jaime to love this also.
Melanney began her career with Farmers Home Administration on March 20, 1994 as a Temporary Office Automation Clerk in Burlington, Co. She was converted to career employee of Rural Economic and Community Development on March 5, 1995. She then transferred to Farm Service Agency as a Farm Loan Program Technician on October 1, 1995 and continued to serve FSA until her passing. She served the Burlington Farm Loan Program Team until April 27, 2006 then transferred to the Pueblo County Office. Melanney was responsible for numerous office duties that included working with several different computer systems in the early years to the current system with two different systems. She served Colorado State Farm Agency in several areas, from being a resource person for several systems and programs within Farm Loan to being a representative on the Colorado FSA Partnership Council. Melanney also provided training to numerous other Farm Loan Program team members throughout Colorado. She helped in the formation of training material for new Farm Loan Program employees and updates on changes to different systems and information. Melanney enjoyed challenges and was involved with the team installing new computer systems for several offices in Northeastern Colorado 2004. She received numerous performance awards throughout her employment with Farm Service Agency.
Melanney had a love for the outdoors, gardening, being outside in the sunshine, picnics and spending quiet times by the lakes. She had a deep compassionate spirit for those that were going through troubled times since she had walked this path herself. She always felt that one should not judge another because you never know what was going on in someone’s life. She was the support system of her family in many ways, always ready to listen, to help carry a burden or share in the joys and happy times. One of her favorite poems was Footprints, which she had done in counted cross stitch several years ago and is a symbol of the faith she carried within her heart.
On the lighter side, Melanney had a love for Winnie the Pooh. She loved the light heartedness of the music, the quotes, and the happy spirit it brought to her and to others. She had acquired a collection of Winnie the Pooh which she loved to share with others; each figurine had a special meaning.
Melanney’s courage and fighting spirit will always be remembered by her family and those who knew her and loved her so very much..
