Veda was born on her grandparent's homestead south of Carlton, Co. The family lived on Mullen Street in Lamar until November 1925. Taking the train, the family moved to Santa Ana, California. Veda enjoyed sharing her memory of how she turned 5 on the train and how special she felt when someone gave her an apple and another person gave her a cookie for her birthday.
Veda had great admiration for her older brother, Bernell. When they were kids they did everything together. Bernell even allowed her to tag along on his dates a time or two. Veda often commented on how blessed she was to have such a wonderful brother as Bernell especially during those growing up years.

In the early 1950's Veda worked for a short while at the Post Office in Santa Ana, California and tried her hand at being a sales clerk at Sears. But being a good wife and a wonderful mother was her main occupation.

In July 1980 Veda and Gil moved back to Colorado along with her mother after her daughter, Dixie and her family moved to Colorado the previous year. She and Gil lived out in the country in McClave until 1996 when they moved to their present home in Lamar.
In 1950 Veda accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. From that moment on Veda's faith and trust in her Lord and Savior was her life. She loved studying and memorizing "The Word of God" adn soon was able to teach.
