Services Thursday 10 a.m. at Highland Mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery.

Anthony 'Tony' Caputa

Dec. 12, 1949 - Aug. 11, 2000

Anthony "Tony" Caputa of Loveland, formerly of Boulder, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in Loveland. He was 50.

He was born Dec. 12, 1949, in St. Louis to Frank and Dorothy (Lee) Caputa.

Mr. Caputa graduated from the Missouri Carpenter's Apprenticeship Program, and was second in his class.

He married Michelle Totten on Sept. 9, 1995, in St. Louis.

He moved to Boulder in 1976, and then to Loveland in 1996.

Mr. Caputa owned and operated Caputa Construction in Boulder from 1976 to 1995. After moving to Loveland, he worked for Local Union No. 510.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His hobby was his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He also enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Caputa is survived by his wife, Michelle Caputa of Loveland; his parents, Frank and Dorothy Caputa of St. Louis; two daughters, Jennifer Sheridan and her husband David of Loveland and Renee May and her husband Stacey of Salt Lake City; two brothers, Robert Caputa and his wife Michelle of St. Louis and Steve Caputa and his wife Julie of Robertsville, Mo.; two sisters, Colleen Hacker and her husband Tom of St. Charles, Mo., and Mary Caputa of Longmont; his grandmother, Dorothy Byran of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Samantha May, Alexis May and Chloe May; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

No visitation is scheduled. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with Chaplain Allen Elder officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in the form of blood donations rather than charity contributions, per the family's request.

DAUM, Ula Mae

June 12, 1926 - Aug. 10, 2000

Ula Mae Daum of Boulder died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at her home from complications of leukemia. She was 74.

She was born June 12, 1926, near Blackwell in Kay County, Okla., to Leo Bernard Halberg and Ruby May (Hembree) Halberg.

She lived in the Rinn Community with her mother and stepfather from 1940 to 1945.

In 1944, she graduated from Johnstown High School in Johnstown. She also attended the University of Colorado.

On Oct. 25, 1945, she married Richard O. Daum near Eaton in Weld County.

Mrs. Daum was a homemaker. For more than 20 years she was an Avon cosmetics representative.

She volunteered with the Boulder County Health Department and the 9 Health Fair. She was a volunteer instructor for the AARP 55 Alive Mature Driving course for five years.

She lived in Boulder County in 1951, and from 1967 until her death.

Mrs. Daum was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Halberg and Bernard Halberg.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Daum of Boulder; four sons, Bernard Daum of Durham N.C., and David Daum, Steven Daum and Rick Daum, all of Boulder; a daughter, Rachel Corteau (formerly Janila Daum) of Florence, Mont.; three brothers, James Halberg and Lloyd Baker, both of Wheatland, Wyo., and Bruce Baker of Las Lunas, N.M.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place in Boulder, with the Rev. Robert Pruett officiating.

Interment will be at Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 621 17th St., Suite 320, Denver 80293, or the Christian Challenge Ministry at the University of Colorado, 111 Cherokee Way, Boulder 80303.

Daniel I. Droege

July 14, 1933 - Aug. 10, 2000

Daniel I. Droege of Longmont died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 67.

He was born July 14, 1933, in Covington, Ky., to Frank X. and Clara (Howell) Droege.

Mr. Droege served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

On Oct. 22, 1955, he married Patricia Sampson in Bellevue, Ky.

During a career spanning more than 30 years, Mr. Droege held positions from industrial engineer to general manager at several companies, including General Electric, Massie Ferguson and the Hesston Corp. He retired in 1995, but had been employed part-time at Hover Community in Longmont.

Mr. Droege moved to Longmont from Dubuque, Iowa, in 1995. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed golf and also liked to garden. He was of Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; a son, Daniel I. Droege Jr. and his wife Ann of Lake Windsor, Wis.; three daughters, Laura Shellhamer and her husband Jeffrey of Longmont, Mary Hedge and her husband Thomas of Libertyville, Ill., and Patricia Barr and her husband Scott of Iowa City, Iowa; two brothers, Frank X. Droege Jr. and Thomas E. Droege, both of Florence, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren, Lisa Marie Shellhamer, Michael J. Shellhamer, Kurtis Barr, Willis Barr, Bryan Barr, Ethan Barr, Sarah Droege, Benjamin Droege, David Hedge and Michael Hedge.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mr. William Lee of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church officiating. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

FAHRENHOLTZ, Barbara Defler

April 7, 1935 - Aug. 9, 2000

Barbara Defler Fahrenholtz of Lafayette died of a heart attack Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Denver. She was 65.

She was born April 7, 1935, in Denver to Harold F. and Margaret H. (Williams) Defler.

Before retiring, Mrs. Fahrenholtz worked in retail sales at Wal-Mart.

She enjoyed reading and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her mother of Lafayette; a sister, Jackie Jordan of Longmont; a brother, Clark Defler of Indiana; two daughters, Kathleen and Trish Fahrenholtz of Arkansas; her twin sons, Garin and Kinsman of Colorado; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 14, at First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Baseline Road in Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Margaret Williams at 406 E. Cleveland St., Lafayette 80026.

FAREL, Charles Arthur

March 8, 1945 - Aug. 6, 2000

Charles Arthur Farel of Boulder died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Salt Lake City. He was 55.

He was born to Mildred Lillian Eckman and Newton DePew Farel on March 8, 1945, in Huntington Park, Calif.

He grew up in Robbinsdale, Minn., and was valedictorian of his 1963 high school graduating class.

He attended the University of Minnesota, completing his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with high distinction in 1967. He then attended Stanford University on a National Science Foundation scholarship, completing his master's degree in electrical engineering in 1968.

On July 12, 1969, he married Nancy Elizabeth Taylor at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Boulder.

Mr. Farel joined IBM in Boulder in 1968. In 1981, he joined Storage Technology Corporation, and at the time of his death, he was vice president of enterprise business strategy.

Mr. Farel was a StorageTek Foundation Committee member. He was a principal founder of the Storage Technology Engineering Symposium, and was chairman of StorageTek's Technical Excellence Committee. He was involved in creating the StorageTek Patent Filter and instrumental in the process for protecting intellectual property. He was also the executive sponsor for the National Storage Industry Consortium tape project.

In 1999, Mr. Farel received the Miguel "Mike" Garcia Award from the Colorado Minority Engineering Association for outstanding corporate leadership, impact and commitment to the advancement of student education and excellence in math, science and engineering.

He was first and foremost a man devoted to his family. He was an expert in doo-wop music, a wine and single-malt scotch connoisseur, a fine arts collector and an enthusiastic world traveler. He was an avid ballroom dancer.

Mr. Farel was preceded in death by his father, Newton D. Farel.

He is survived by his wife of Boulder; a daughter, Lexie Farel Wang and her husband Linus Wang of Boulder; his mother, Mildred Farel of Columbus, Ohio; and two brothers, Rich Farel of Englishtown, N.J., and Bill Farel of Columbus, as well as their families.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th St. in Boulder, with Chaplain Jean Scott officiating.

M.P. Murphy and Associates are handling local arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship for minority engineering students is being established. Contributions may be made to the Charlie Farel Scholarship Fund, Colorado MESA, Campus Box 104, P.O. Box 173364, Denver 80217-3364.

Jeremiah R. Garrett

Aug. 21, 1974 - Aug. 13, 2000

Jeremiah R. Garrett of Longmont died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Denver. He was 25.

He was born Aug. 21, 1974, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Howard Garrett and Marilyn Penn.

He moved to Longmont from Boulder in 1992.

On July 28, 1997, he married Lynn McGonnell in Boulder.

Mr. Garrett was a flooring installer for B&K Installation of Longmont.

He enjoyed working on cars, music and playing the bass guitar.

Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife and son, Lynn McGonnell and Cody Garrett of Denver; his parents, Howard Garrett of Washington and Marilyn Penn of Longmont; two sisters, Laura Rather and her husband Bruce of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Donna Meyers and her husband Todd of Boulder; his grandmother, Laura Penn of Amarillo, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

No visitation is scheduled. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Mead United Methodist Church in Mead with the Rev. JoAnne Buchanan-Brown and Dawn Marie Trudell officiating.

Michael Thomas Hoge

Jan. 16, 1983 - Aug. 13, 2000

Michael Thomas Hoge of Longmont passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at his home. He was the precious son of Rick and Cindy Hoge and beloved brother to Colton, Ben and Rebecca Hoge. Michael was 17.

Michael was a senior at Longmont High School, where he was elected student body president for the coming year.

He was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in various sports.

He enjoyed being a student ambassador to Chino, Japan, in 1998 with the Longmont Sister Cities Program.

He loved being with his family and friends. His favorite activities included cliff jumping, ultimate Frisbee, mountain biking and traveling.

Michael was strong in his faith and had a love for the Lord.

Michael is survived by his parents, Rick and Cindy Hoge; two brothers, Colton and Ben Hoge; a sister, Rebecca Hoge; his grandparents, Rosalie Hoge of Boulder, George and Lillian Hoge of California, and Tom and Mitzi Wood of Longmont; his aunts, uncles and cousins, Bob Hoge, George, Trina, Jenny and Jeff Hoge, Bill, Priscilla, Heather and Hilary Hoge, Pam Hoge, David Walder, Sophi and Zoey, Patty Hoge, Penny Hoge, Peggy, Kisan and Peter Chopra, Lynn, Michelle, Elizabeth, Tom and Kate Wood, Kathy, Mark, Matt, Adam and John Pillmore and his fiancee Maggie Barrett, and Don, Karen, Eric and Julie Wood; and many special friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Lifebridge Church at Colorado 66 and Gay Street. Lunch will follow the service at the church. The Rev. Glenn Perica of Central Presbyterian Church will officiate.

There will be a private family burial. No visitation is scheduled.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vrain Valley Education Foundation or the Central Presbyterian Church, in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St. in Longmont.

Jane M. Kinyicky

Aug. 29, 1931 - Aug. 7, 2000

Jane M. Kinyicky of Berthoud died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at her daughter's home in Mead. She was 68.

Mrs. Kinyicky was a secretary for the Tucson Unified School District in Tucson, Ariz. She retired in May 1991.

She loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren in Colorado and Texas.

She was born Aug. 29, 1931, in Cleveland, the daughter of Martin Suckecki and Mary Bijata Suckecki. She moved to Colorado in 1995 from Tucson.

She married Paul J. Kinyicky on Jan. 26, 1951, in Cleveland. Mr. Kinyicky preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kinyicky was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Jeff P. Kinyicky and his wife Sue of New Braunfels, Texas; a daughter, Paula J. Arechederra and her husband Robert of Mead; two brothers, Ted Suchecki of Troy, Ohio, and Julian Suchecki of Solon, Ohio; a sister, Stephanie Hnath of Tucson, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Brisco and Matthew.

No local services will be held. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Tucson, Ariz., with the Rev. Bernard Perkins officiating.

Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
