RODWICK, Ruthene 'Ruth' E.
Feb. 10, 1907 - Nov. 25, 2000
Ruthene "Ruth" E. Rodwick died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the Peaks Care Center in Longmont. She was 93 years old.
She was born in the Oklahoma territory on Feb. 10, 1907. She graduated in Springfield, Colo., in 1928.
She married Joseph Rodwick, and they made their home in Lafayette since 1935. Joe preceded her in death in 1985.
She loved to sew. She was active in 4-H and all types of crafts. She took pride and joy in participating in all the events that took place in Lafayette.
When the Lafayette Historical Society started the Miner's Museum around 1975, Mrs. Rodwick became curator. She loved the children of Lafayette, and delighted in showing school classes through the museum. She liked the way their eyes lit up when she would tell them about coal. The community recognized the contributions by choosing Mr. and Mrs. Rodwick as Grand Marshall of the Lafayette Day Parade in the early 1980s.
In 1987, she was awarded Citizen of the Year by V.F.W. Post 1771. She also received the Denver Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award in 1988.
Mrs. Rodwick is survived by a son, Joseph Rodwick III of Albuquerque N.M., and a daughter, Joan Sheley of Longmont.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Miners Museum, 108 E. Simpson, Lafayette 80026.
ROGERS, Thomas Edward
May 4, 1921 - Nov. 23, 2000
Thomas Edward Rogers of Longmont died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 79.
He was born May 4, 1921, to Thomas P. and Elizabeth (Higdon) Rogers in Denver.
He married Marjorie Ann Robertson on June 14, 1941, in Denver.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.
He retired from Feeney Industrial Insulation after 22 years of service, and was a member of Asbestos Workers Local 28. He enjoyed playing golf.
He moved to Boulder County in November 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Rogers of Longmont; three sons, Thomas O. Rogers of Tucson, Ariz., Greg Rogers of Arvada and Pat Rogers of Wheat Ridge; two daughters, Dallas Moore of Conifer and Sue Rogers of Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held this Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Spirit of Peace Catholic Church at 1500 Hover Road in Longmont with the Rev. Don Willette of Spirit of Peace officiating.
A private interment will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity or Spirit of Peace Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Erlinger Cremation and Funeral Service of Longmont.
Dee E. Rudd Jr.
Nov. 3, 1921 - Nov. 29, 2000
Dee E. Rudd Jr. of Longmont died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Applewood Living Center in Longmont. He was 79.
He was born Nov. 3, 1921, to Dee E. Sr. and Eva (Lawing) Rudd.
On June 20, 1942, he married Correne Craig in Abilene, Texas.
Mr. Rudd enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and was a flight instructor for several air bases. In 1945, he was discharged to the Air Force Reserves, where he served until the outbreak of the Korean War.
Following his military service, he flew as a commercial pilot from 1945 to 1947. He then worked at the Civil Aeronautic Authority and the Federal Aviation Agency from 1947 to 1977, when he retired as an air traffic manager-superintendent of the F.A.A.
In 1962, he moved to Longmont from Scottsdale, Ariz.
After retiring from the F.A.A., Mr. Rudd became a salesman, working from 1977 to 1996 at Hajek Chevrolet-Geo-Olds in Longmont.
Mr. Rudd was a 32nd-degree Mason of the St. Vrain Lodge 23 A.F. & A.M. and 33rd-degree Scottish Rite. He also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Columbine Chapter No. 11, and he was elected to the Supreme Council of DeMolay.
He also was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church.
He loved to fly, a passion that began while he was in college, where he learned to fly in Sweetwater and Abilene, Texas. He enjoyed big band music and was a former trumpet player.
Mr. Rudd was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
He is survived by his wife of Longmont; a son, Tom Rudd and his wife Marilyn of Northglenn; a daughter, Judi Rudd of Longmont; five grandchildren, Kurt Will, Kyle Dee Will, James Dee Rudd, Michele Ator and Lori Prok; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Central Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Marilyn Yoder Boeke officiating.
Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Longmont Humane Society or Central Presbyterian Church, in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
Robert 'Red' Sasser
Aug. 17, 1925 - Nov. 28, 2000
Robert "Red" Sasser of Firestone died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 75.
He was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Lauderdale County, Tenn., to Ellis Walker and Robbie (Becton) Sasser. He grew up in Halls, Tenn., and graduated from Halls High School.
After graduation, Mr. Sasser served in the U.S. Army. His career allowed him to travel the country as a heavy equipment foreman in pipeline construction.
Among his proudest accomplishments before his retirement in 1994 was his work on the Alyeska Pipeline in Alaska.
Mr. Sasser settled in Firestone in 1974. He married Julia M. LePore in Boulder.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts No. 2601 in Longmont and No. 9741 in Dacono. He also was a member of American Legion Post No. 1985 in Firestone.
Mr. Sasser is survived by his wife, Julia M. Sasser of Firestone; two sons, Robert D. Sasser of Belleville, Kan., and Marcus Dwayne Sasser of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Rhonda Sasser of Belleville; a brother, Charles Arnold Sasser and his wife Lenora of Okeechobee, Fla.; a sister, Barbara Ann Jones and her husband Jimmy of Union City, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jared, Jamie and Jordan; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 30, and Friday, Dec. 1, at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with Chaplain John Boysen of V.F.W. Post No. 2601 officiating. Services will conclude at the mortuary, with cremation to follow.
Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
A memorial fund has been established.
SCHMITT, Jesse F.
May 24, 1909 - Nov. 10, 2000
Jesse F. Schmitt died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000. He was 91.
He was born May 24, 1909, to Roy Schmitt and Lena "Dolly" (Clement) Schmitt on a farm in Brown County, Kan.
After finishing high school in Fairview, Kan., he attended Fort Hays State Teachers College in Hays, Kan. He was on the 1930 championship football team. Later, Mr. Schmitt earned his master's degree at Colorado State Teacher's College in Greeley.
After graduation, he married his college sweetheart, Frances Hoff of Quinter, Kan., in February 1933. In June 1973, he married Blossom Anderson.
Mr. Schmitt had his first teaching assignment in Marquette, Kan., from 1932 to 1937. He then moved to Ellis, Kan., where he taught wood shop and coached football and basketball at Ellis High School.
In 1944, Mr. Schmitt volunteered for the U.S. Navy, serving as a carpenter's mate 2nd class on a floating dry dock in the South Pacific.
He returned to Ellis after the war and continued to teach. In 1948, he took his family to Billings, Mont., to help build a motel. He and the family came back to Kansas in 1949. They lived in Quinter, and he taught high school wood shop and science and coached basketball in Collyer until 1954.
In 1954, he moved the family to Westminster, where he taught wood shop and mechanical drawing at Hodgkins Junior High School until his retirement in 1973.
He participated and medaled in the Senior Olympics and remained active in bowling and swimming until his death.
Mr. Schmitt was preceded in death by his first wife in January 1972.
He is survived by his wife, Blossom Schmitt; a son, Norb Schmitt and his wife Helen of Longmont; two daughters, Carol Ashenbrenner and her husband Jim of Denver, and LouAnn Waldschmidt and her husband Walt of Northglenn; a brother, Claire Schmitt of McPherson, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denver.
Interment followed on Thursday, Nov. 16, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Marvin J. Wadle
Jan. 27, 1915 - Nov. 29, 2000
Marvin J. Wadle of Longmont died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home. He was 85.
He was born Jan. 27, 1915, to Henry and Clara (Dittmer) Wadle in Lacona, Iowa.
On Sept. 16, 1937, he married Bertha Schurman in Rosemount, Iowa.
Mr. Wadle farmed in Iowa before moving to Longmont in 1962.
He then went to work for the city of Longmont in the Electric Department, and finally as chief building inspector until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Wadle was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont. He enjoyed traveling and activities with his family.
Mr. Wadle was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Goodhue and Helen Wadle.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bertha E. Wadle of Longmont; four sons, Richard Wadle and his wife Debra, Leo H. Wadle and his wife Helen, Dean Wadle and his wife Emmy, and Arnold Wadle and his wife Deborah; three daughters, Betty Reed and her husband Tom, Rose Holmes and her husband Gary, and Joy Birkeland and her husband John; six brothers, Glen, Alfred, Virgil, Don, Giles and Darrell; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 1, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Howe Mortuary.
The casket will remain closed at the church.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Mr. Bill Lee officiating.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Greg Ames of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Greeley as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Laura I. Wenner
April 13, 1915 - Nov. 29, 2000
Laura I. Wenner of Longmont died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 85.
She was born April 13, 1915, to Charles S. and Laura A. (Arble) Scott in Altoona, Pa.
On Sept. 24, 1938, she married William L. Wenner in Chicago.
Mrs. Wenner was a homemaker. In 1995, she moved to Longmont from Las Vegas, where she had lived since 1979.
Mrs. Wenner was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 8, 1981.
She is survived by a son, Charles Scott Wenner of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a daughter, Jody Allen of Thornton; five grandchildren, Tim, Lynn, Laura, Brenda and Dawn; and seven great-grandchildren, Connor, Mitchell, Preston, Cynthia, Lacey, Ruby and Lane.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 1, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Private family services will be held. Interment will take place at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Las Vegas.

Orville Alma 'Whitey' Winn
July 27, 1915 - Nov. 30, 2000
Orville Alma "Whitey" Winn of Estes Park passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Estes Park. He was 85.
Mr. Winn was born July 27, 1915, in Richfield, Utah.
His father died when Mr. Winn was 14, forcing him to help support his family by working in Idaho, California and Nevada. His hard work and ambitious nature culminated in a mining job with ConCopper, Isabell Construction and Kennecott Copper, where he spent many years as a foreman at the Kennecott open pit mine in Ruth, Nev.
On March 22, 1940, he married Olga Poulakidas in Ely, Nev.
He and his wife and family lived in Ely until his wife passed away in December 1985.
A short time later, Mr. Winn moved to the Estes Park area, where he married Mary Kipen in 1990. The couple lived in Estes Park until Mr. Winn's death.
Mr. Winn is survived by his wife of Estes Park; two sons, John Winn and his wife Ellen and their daughter Stacy of San Diego, and Paul Winn and his wife Goldie and their children Paul Jr. and Michael of Westport, Conn.; and a daughter, Rosemary Crispin and Buz Fisher and her children Greg and Steven, all of Longmont.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Mountain Vista Mortuary in Ely, with the Rev. Ilia Katre officiating.
Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at the Ely City Cemetery.
