NICHOLSON, Opal L.

NICHOLSON, Opal L., of Longmont, formerly of Ellis, Kan., passed away Feb. 2, 2001, at Applewood Living Center.

Robert A. Schory

July 16, 1926 - Jan. 29, 2001

Robert A. Schory of Frederick died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 74.

Born July 16, 1926, in Chicago, he was the son of Howard and Dorothea (Koehne) Schory. He attended schools

in the Chicago area and later graduated from Iowa State University.

Mr. Schory moved from California to Boulder in 1959.

He married Arlene Kandelin-Kalicki on Oct. 6, 1969, in Boulder.

Mr. Schory owned and operated Colorado Fasteners - Metric Inc., a fastener-distribution company, in Longmont for many years.

He was involved with a Masonic lodge in Iowa and later continued his involvement in Colorado.

Mr. Schory will be remembered for Bob's Dawg Haus, located at Pete's Driving Range in Longmont.

He is survived by his mother of Iowa; his wife of Frederick; six sons, Michael Schory and his wife Paige of Thornton, Curtis Schory and his wife Carol of Boulder, Owen Schory and his wife Wendy of Lafayette, Peter Schory and his wife Rhoda of Snowbird, Utah, Steve Kalicki and his wife Lindsey of Frederick and Michael Kalicki and his wife Cindy of Wildomar, Calif.; a daughter, Shauna Kalicki and her spouse Joy of Kiowa, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Schory of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Howard Schory.

Cremation has been held at Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bob Schory Memorial Fund in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont 80501.

SHERWOOD, Thomas R.

Aug. 14, 1926 - Jan. 27, 2001

Thomas R. Sherwood of Douglas, Wyo., died of heart failure Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home. He was 74.

Mr. Sherwood was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Hastings, Neb., the son of Clarence C. Sherwood Sr. and Elizabeth B. (Ralston) Sherwood. He graduated from Orleans, Neb., High School in 1944, continued his education at Hastings College and graduated in 1950 from Westminster Law School (now the University of Denver). It was there that he met his future wife, Anne Stengel. They were married Sept. 20, 1950, in Cheyenne, Wyo. The couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Sherwood worked at his father's insurance, real estate and law practice in Orleans for 10 years. The remainder of his career was spent adjusting insurance claims in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming. After retiring in Douglas, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service and Wyoming State Parks in Glendo, Wyo.

A member of the Masonic Lodge No. 146 in Holdrege, Neb., and the York Rite Bodies, he was also a Shriner as well as the first Eagle Scout in Orleans.

He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and spending time at Glendo Reservoir.

He is survived his wife Anne of Douglas; three children, Deborah Simpson of Glenrock, Wyo., Tom Sherwood Jr. of Greeley and Kimberly Echols of Broomfield; a brother, Robert A. Sherwood of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death was a brother, Clarence C. Sherwood Jr.

A memorial celebration will be held Friday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at Converse Funeral Chapel, 1147 Cheyenne St. in Douglas, with the Rev. Rodney Saunders of First United Methodist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children, in care of George C. Smith, 119 N. Third St., Douglas, Wyo., 82633.

Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas is in charge of arrangements.

Doris Herron Sinnott

May 28, 1898 - Feb. 1, 2001

Doris Herron Sinnott of Longmont died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 102.

Mrs. Sinnott had lived at Life Care for two years after moving to Longmont from Nebraska.

She was born May 28, 1898, in Chadron, Neb., to Clark and Glen (Keeney) Jeffers.

In 1915, she married I.E. Herron in Chadron. He preceded her in death in 1960.

In 1965, she married Norvel Sinnott in Chadron. He preceded her in death in 1968.

Mrs. Sinnott continued to live in her home for 83 years before coming to Colorado.

Survivors include a son, Elmer E. Herron and his wife Bette of Erie; a daughter, Edith H. Jeffries of Longmont; three granddaughters, Kathleen Sebring of Erie, Joan and her husband Peter Winton and LeAnn and her husband Jack Morin, all of Omaha, Neb.; six great-grandchildren, Christi Robinson and her husband Nevin, Julie Sebring, Rick Greminger and his wife Ruth, Penny Richter and her husband Chris, David Morin and Katie Morin; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Rachael and Tyler Greminger and Corey and Dustin Richter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Feb. 3, at Howe Mortuary Chapel.

Graveside services and interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron on Monday, Feb. 5.

Ardale C. Skaggs

April 2, 1918 - Feb. 2, 2001

Ardale C. Skaggs of Longmont died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Applewood Living Center. She was 82.

She was born April 2, 1918, in DeRuyter, N.Y., to Lyman Aaron and Nina Mae (Gates) Coon.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Salem College in Salem, W.Va.

On June 25, 1939, she married Victor W. Skaggs in DeRuyter.

A homemaker and loving mother, Mrs. Skaggs also worked as a proofreader.

She moved from Wampsville, N.Y., to Longmont in January 1990 and was a member of Seventh-day Baptist Church of Boulder.

She is survived by her husband of Longmont; a son, Patrick J. Skaggs of Lyons; three daughters, Nina Karhnak of Oneida, N.Y., Janice Kenyon of St. Joseph, Mich., and Lynne Balog of New Port Richey, Fla.; a sister, Doris Waterbury of Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Leticia Wicks, Debra Rod, Stephanie Sholtz, Joseph Balog, Jeremy Balog, Amy Skaggs and Erin Skaggs; and seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Wicks, Nathan Wicks, Daniel Wicks, Katie Wicks, Jessica Rod, Cassandra Rod and Nicodemus Rod.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today, Saturday, Feb. 3, at Seventh-day Baptist Church of Boulder, 6710 Arapahoe Road in Boulder, with the Rev. David Thorngate of Seventh-day Baptist officiating.

Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County or Seventh-day Baptist Church of Boulder in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

STAMP, LeNeita Jean

STAMP, LeNeita Jean, 70, of Longmont passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at her home. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 640 Alpine St., the Rev. John Theime officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Berthoud, Colorado. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Doris Virginia Vaughn

Sept. 3, 1902 - Jan. 31, 2001

Doris Virginia Vaughn of Longmont died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Applewood Living Center. She was 98.

She was born Sept. 3, 1902, in Glenwood, Minn., to Christopher and Magdaline (Benson) Sather.

A graduate of Glenwood High School, she went on to attend Moorhead Teachers College (now Moorhead State) and taught fourth grade in Verndale and Columbus Heights, Minn., a suburb of Minneapolis.

On July 8, 1930, she married Lester Vaughn in Glenwood. Following the marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn moved to Milwaukee.

In 1944, Mr. Vaughn was transferred to Torrington, Wyo., where Mrs. Vaughn continued to live for 10 years after her husband's death. In 1968, she moved from Torrington to Longmont. She moved into the Hover Manor in 1969.

Mrs. Vaughn was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Golden Age Circle. She enjoyed children and offered herself as a baby-sitter for a number of years for her grandchildren and others.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Cassidy of Seattle; six grandchildren, Kay Croghan and her husband Dan of Keenesburg, Colo., Julie Rich and her husband Royal of Loveland, Terri Wright of Longmont, Tim Kuxhausen and his wife Michele of Charlotte, N.C., Beth McKinney and her husband Mark of Edmonds, Wash., and Blake Cassidy of Edmonds; and four great-grandchildren, Royal Rich III and Michelle Rich, both of Loveland, Mari-Colleen Croghan of Keenesburg and Sanderson Keith Kuxhausen of Charlotte.

No visitation is scheduled.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Glenn Isernhagen of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont 80501.

BRADY, Donald James

June 4, 1933 - April 1, 2001

Donald James Brady of Denver died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Denver. He was 67.

He was born June 4, 1933, to James Anthony and Ellen Catherine (Dunn) Brady in Mitchell, S.D.

On Dec. 31, 1961, he married Beverly Lou Elliott in Longmont.

Mr. Brady served in the U.S. Navy. He was a construction contractor until his retirement in September 1995.

Mr. Brady enjoyed working in his woodshop.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Brady of Denver; two daughters, Marie Brady of Aurora and Debra Rivera of Firestone; two sons, Patrick Kelly Brady of Denver and Scott Brady of Gilcrest; three brothers, Lawrence, Pat and Ray of Denver; two sisters, Doris and Winifred of Denver; and eight grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Private services will be held.

Arrangements are being handled by Monarch Society Inc., 1534 Pearl St., Denver.

CAINE, Clifford M.

Nov. 23, 1906 - April 5, 2001

Clifford M. Caine of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in New York. He was 95.

He was born Nov. 23, 1906, in Wall Lake, Iowa, to Philip and Lucetta Caine.

His early years were spent on farms in Iowa, Minnesota and North Dakota, and he graduated from high school in Minnewankan, N.D.

He graduated from Jamestown College in North Dakota in 1930 and began a career in business, taking a position as a management trainee with Gamble Stores in Yankton, S.D.

In 1931, he married his college sweetheart, Eulah Ann Robertson.

In 1933, opened a new Gamble Store in Chadron, Neb.

In subsequent years, he managed stores in Provo, Utah, Longmont, Denver and Aurora.

While in Longmont, he was president of the Chamber of Commerce.

During his time in Denver, he served as the chairman of the building committee to construct a major addition to the oldest Presbyterian church in Denver, Central Presbyterian Church. He was also elected President of the Colorado Chain Stores Association.

After retirement, he and his wife moved to Denver. They lived there until 1998, when they moved to Saratoga Springs.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Clifford.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eulah; two sons, Philip of Monument and Robert of Utica, N.Y.; a daughter, Judith Ekman of Saratoga Springs; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian New England Congregational Church in Saratoga Springs on Wednesday, April 11, at 3 p.m. Inurnment will be in Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs.

CLARK, Lenore H.

July 27, 1917 - April 4, 2001

Lenore H. Clark of Boulder died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Boulder. She was 83.

She was born July 27, 1917, to Ora Orlando and Eunice P. (Westfall) Higgins in Oneida, Ill.

In April 1942, she married Richard D. Clark in Chicago. They later divorced.

In 1958, she moved to Boulder from Ohio.

Mrs. Clark received her bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder.

She worked as a pediatric nurse at Boulder Community Hospital from 1958 to 1960. From 1960 to 1981, she was a registered nurse for Boulder County Public Health.

Mrs. Clark was a member of the American Nurses Association and Mountain View Methodist Church. She enjoyed leather work, pottery and oil painting.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Higgins and John A. Sisson.

Mrs. Clark is survived by a daughter, Susan Andrews of Longmont; two sons, Richard Thomas Clark of Aurora and Charles Westfall Clark of Colorado Springs; and a brother, Charles M. Sisson of Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder.
