GRAVES, David Loren

March 26, 1947 - Oct. 17, 2001

David Loren Graves of Longmont died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville. He was 54.

He was born March 26, 1947, in Hutchinson, Kan.

Mr. Graves proudly served his country as second lieutenant (Green Beret) in Company D, Third Battalion (Airborne) 503rd Infantry Division in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He received numerous medals and commendations during his tour of duty.

He spent the last 15 years of his life living and working in the Longmont area.

Mr. Graves is survived by his mother, Margaret Graves of Escondido, Calif.; two sisters, Geraldine Roche and her husband Thomas of Cape Cod, Mass., and Patricia Fabing of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Jeff Fabing; two nephews, Thomas Roche Jr., his wife Karen and their children, and Ryan Fabing; four nieces, Debbie Covino, her husband Steven and their children, Karen Roche, Erin Fabing and Casey Fabing; and numerous other family members and friends.

No services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville 80027.

HATTEBURG, Cecilia M.

May 16, 1914 - Oct. 19, 2001

Cecilia M. Hatteburg of Longmont died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital following a brief illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Hatteburg was born May 16, 1914, in Canada to Joseph Adolph and Mary Louise Gendron. Her family emigrated to the United States in her early teen years, moving first to Michigan and later to California.

She married James Lambert, and they later divorced.

In 1958, she married William Russell Hatteburg in Las Vegas. They moved to Colorado in 1960.

Mrs. Hatteburg liked the outdoors and especially enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Henry and Leo Gendron.

She is survived by a son, Patrick Lambert of Longmont; a sister, Alice Meyers of California; two grandchildren, Paul R. Lambert and Nancy L. Lee; and two great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. Cremation has been held at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in Mrs. Hatteburg's name.

HLAVACEK, Ella

HLAVACEK, Ella, 84, of Longmont, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Applewood Living Center. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. today at Calvary Church, the Rev. Tom Hovestol officiating. Private interment will precede the memorial service at Foothills Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church Acts 1 Fund or Canine Partners for Life in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

LONDON, Ronald "Ronnie, "

LONDON, Ronald "Ronnie, " 61, of Dacono, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver due to injuries sustained in a work accident.

MAHAN, Patricia 'Pattie' Mae

May 24, 1966 - Oct. 4, 2001

Patricia "Pattie" Mae Mahan, formerly of Longmont, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Centennial, Colo. She was 35.

She was born May 24, 1966, to Paul D. and Pauline J. (Schlueter)

Selig in Bedford Heights, Ohio.

She lived in Longmont from 1969 to 1984.

A 1984 graduate of Skyline High School, she was active in track, band and 4-H. She also was a member of the Campfire Girls for 11 years.

Mrs. Mahan graduated from the University of Colorado in August 1993 and worked as a medical technologist at Bonfils Blood Bank.

She enjoyed rafting, camping, hiking, karate and crocheting.

A former Boy Scout leader, Mrs. Mahan was involved in Race for the Cure. She was a loving and giving person and devoted her life to her boys.

She is survived by her parents of Westminster; two sons, Russell "Rusty" and Mitchell "Mitch" Mahan of Stoneham, Colo.; her beloved companion, Randy Covin of Denver; a sister, Paula Selig of Denver; a brother, Paul Selig and his wife Shirley of Aurora; her grandparents, Robert and Cora Selig of Federal Heights; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Rundus Funeral Home, 1998 W. 10th Ave., Broomfield.

Cremation and interment of remains will be held at Arvada Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Porter Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

John P. McIlvaney

May 20, 1936 - Oct. 16, 2001

John P. McIlvaney of Longmont died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Longmont. He was 65.

He was born May 20, 1936, to Hugh and Roseanne (Morgan) McIlvaney in Dacono.

He attended schools in Frederick and graduated from Frederick High School.

Mr. McIlvaney married Connie Chandler in Longmont in November 1957.

He worked for Rocky Flats as a tool-crib attendant for 35 years before retiring. He belonged to the United Steel Workers No. 8031.

Mr. McIlvaney was an avid sports fan, supporting all of the professional and college teams in the Denver area. He enjoyed listening to sports talk on the radio. At one time, he played semi-pro baseball and also coached little league teams.

He loved animals and helped his children with their 4-H projects.

Mr. McIlvaney also enjoyed his garden and raised many different vegetables. He could often be found at Clark's Food Store in Hygiene having coffee and visiting with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. McIlvaney is survived by his wife Connie of Longmont; two sons, Patrick McIlvaney of Longmont and Dan McIlvaney of Great Falls, Mont.; a daughter, Jaci Smith and her husband Kirk of Longmont; a brother, Gerald McIlvaney and his wife Vera of Pahrump, Nev.; and two sisters, Vera Hernandez and her husband Wally of Indio, Calif., and Betty Maes and her husband Michael of Summerfield, Fla.

Visitation was held at Howe Mortuary, with a rosary recited on Thursday evening, Oct. 18.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Oct. 18, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Al Muniz officiating.

Burial will follow in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Sonja E. McIntyre

Feb. 6, 1938 - Oct. 19, 2001

Sonja E. McIntyre of Longmont died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville. She was 63.

She was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Dave and Myrtle (Mattson) Anderson.

She attended Alpha Elementary and Windom High School before receiving her bachelor's degree in elementary education, with a music minor, from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan.

She taught one year in Topeka before coming to Colorado to teach eight years in Englewood.

On Dec. 22, 1963, she married Bob McIntyre in Windom, Kan. They made their home in Littleton.

After a four-year assignment in San Jose, Calif., the family settled in Longmont in 1977.

In 1978, Mrs. McIntyre started teaching in the St. Vrain Valley School District, retiring in June 1999. Most of her time was spent at Indian Peaks and Niwot elementary schools.

She was active in the First Lutheran Church choirs, the Longmont Chorale and Longmont Chorale Singers. She also was a member of NEA, CEA, CRSEA, Mu chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 32.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. McIntyre is survived by her husband of Longmont; two daughters, Sheri and her husband Robert Short of Longmont and Boni of Denver; a brother, Rodney Anderson and his wife CeCelia of Salina, Kan.; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Allen J. McIntyre of St. Paul, Minn.; and a grandson, Matthew Short of Longmont.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Ahlberg Funeral Home. Members of the family will be present to greet friends.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at First Lutheran Church, Third Avenue and Terry Street in Longmont, with the Rev. Bruce A. Welander officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

Interment will be Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Andover Lutheran Church Cemetery in Windom, with the Rev. Chris Bjerje-Ulliman officiating.

Contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church Choirs in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501-5440.

MURRAY, Margaret

MURRAY, Margaret, 83, Longmont, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at a local care center. No visitation or services scheduled. Cremation has been held.

Frederick Earl "Fred" Ross

Jan. 9, 1937 - Oct. 18, 2001

Frederick Earl "Fred" Ross of Longmont died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton following a brief illness. He was 64.

Mr. Ross was born Jan. 9, 1937, in Sutton, Neb., to Frederick J. and Mary L. (Steward) Ross.

He grew up on a ranch near Bartlett, Neb., graduating from Wheeler County High School in 1953.

Mr. Ross married Dorothy Penas on Oct. 10, 1955, in Lake Andes, S.D.

He was employed as a mechanic with Coors for many years, retiring in 1993. His most recent job was at Papa John's Pizza in Longmont.

Mr. Ross enjoyed camping, flying with his son Jim, spending time with his grandchildren and four-wheeling. He and a close friend founded Patrol 11 of The Mile High Jeep Club in 1963. His baseball cap collection numbers more than 200. His travels took him to most of America, including Hawaii and Alaska, as well as England. He also enjoyed playing senior bingo at Wal-Mart.

Mr. Ross attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the Mile High Jeep Club, the Colorado State Association of 4 Wheel Drive Inc. and the Loyal Order of Moose. He was an associate member of the Longmont VFW Post 2601 and was a member of Operating Engineers Local No. 9.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; four sons, Don Ross and his wife Cathy of Berthoud, Jim Ross of Longmont, Carl Ross of Longmont, and Jerry Ross and his wife Shannon of Westminster; three daughters, Bev Schmidt and her husband Rod of Loveland, Debra Marcellus of Thornton, and Diane Jeffords and her husband Mark of Boulder; his grandchildren, Hollie and Robin Ross, Ryan and Rachel Marcellus, Erin and Erik Schmidt and Alicia and Tanner Ross; and two step-grandchildren, Megan Fisher and Eric Myers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, with the Rev. Al Muniz as celebrant.

Interment will take place at Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont. No visitation is planned. Cremation has been held at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition (COHVCO) or the Mediplex Rehabilitation Hospital in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont 80501.

Jerry E. Stillwell

April 24, 1922 - Oct. 18, 2001

Jerry E. Stillwell of Longmont died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 79.

He was born April 24, 1922, to Junius and Ruth (Martin) Stillwell in Elkins, Ark.

Mr. Stillwell served with the 2nd Division Artillery in the U.S. Army from November 1942 to October 1945. He was a member of the Normandy Invasion force and served in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Buldge. He was awarded the Silver Star.

On March 31, 1948, he married Osce West in Walters, Okla.

Mr. Stillwell originally moved to Longmont in 1949 from Oklahoma. He moved back to Oklahoma in 1951 and returned to Longmont in 1952.

He worked for Golden Concrete for 30 years, as a truck driver for many years and later as plant manager. He retired in 1983.

Mr. Stillwell enjoyed working in his yard, camping, fishing, bluegrass music and trips with his wife in his motor home. He was a devoted husband and father and especially adored his granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Teddy Stillwell; a brother, Gerald Stillwell; and two sisters, Helen Reed and Doris June Kelly.

Mr. Stillwell is survived by his wife of Longmont; a son, Jerry Stillwell and his wife Karen of Longmont; a daughter, Marcia Scheiding and her husband Dale of Longmont; a brother, Carl Stillwell and his wife Gail of Folsom, Calif.; and three granddaughters, Stacy McLouth, Angela Sundberg and Amy Scheiding.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the family present to greet friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with Chaplain Marilyn Yoder Boeke of Longmont United Hospital officiating.

Entombment will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum, with military honors by Longs Peak VFW Post 2601.

Memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Memorial in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
