EATON, Thomas D.

March 10, 1948 - June 3, 2002

Thomas D. Eaton of Longmont died of cancer Monday, June 3, 2002, at his home. He was 54.

He was born March 10, 1948, to Felix and Lettie (Sixkiller) Eaton in Gypsum, Colo.

On May 1, 1965, he married Sandra Sterkel in Loveland.

Mr. Eaton worked for the trucking industry until health forced his retirement.

He moved to Longmont in 1963 from Glenwood Springs.

Mr. Eaton enjoyed fly fishing, going to the mountains and watching sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, J.A. Eaton.

Mr. Eaton is survived by his wife of Longmont; two sons, Ronald Eaton of Longmont and Ryan Eaton and his wife Monica of Milliken; two daughters, Cheryl Leahy and her husband Steve of Longmont and Tanya Eaton of Longmont; two sisters, Lula Lane and her husband Ralph of Los Lunas, N.M., and Margaret Smith of Rock River, Wyo.; two grandchildren, Sarah Leahy of Longmont and Cody Eaton of Milliken; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Don Ferris officiating.

Interment will be in Foothills Gardens of Memory.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County or the American Cancer Society in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 350 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

LUJAN, Shawn Micheal

LUJAN, Shawn Micheal, 12, of Westminster, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at St. Anthony Central Hospital, Denver, from injuries due to an auto pedestrian accident. Visitation 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Ralph Kirkbride of Faith Bible Chapel, Lafayette, officiating. Interment in Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder. Contributions to the Shawn Lujan Memorial Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

MENKING: Dan Edward

Jan. 13, 1936 - June 4, 2002

Dan Edward Menking of Boulder died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Louisville, after suffering from ALS for a number of years. He was 66.

He was born Jan. 13, 1936, to Harold Gilbert and Virginia Ethel (Woods) Menking in Fort Morgan. The family moved to Boulder around 1946. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1952.

On Aug. 18, 1956, he married Anita J. Colclasure at the First Christian Church in Boulder. He and his wife remained in the Boulder area.

Mr. Menking was a member of the Air National Guard and served in the reserves for a few years.

He worked for Rocky Flats as a senior industrial illustrator for the U.S. Department of Energy until his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Menking enjoyed the outdoors, camping, swimming, water skiing and maintaining a small family farm. He spent much of his spare time officiating high school and collegiate basketball throughout the state and was a member of the IAABO and the NCAA. Mr. Menking enjoyed playing city basketball and softball and coaching girls' fast-pitch softball. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to Africa, China, Europe, Israel, Malaysia and much of the United States.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Menking is survived by his wife of Louisville; his mother of Boulder; three daughters, Jennifer Henry of Westminster, Cynthia Fish and her husband Dean of Helena, Mont., and Linda Devereux and her husband Jay of Longmont; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Howe Mortuary, Boulder.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, at Bethany Baptist Church in Boulder. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 5495 Baseline Road, Boulder 80303.

MILLS, Aaron "Stewli"

July 21, 1977 - May 31, 2002

Aaron "Stewli" Mills of Boulder passed away Friday, May 31, 2002, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 24.

He was born July 21, 1977, in Florissant, Mo., to T. Steven Mills and Kathy Andruczk.

He was a musician, singer and songwriter, and was a member of the group EMCW (Electric Mind Control Workshop).

He lived in Boulder for the past two years, after living in Denver, Switzerland and New York.

He had a keen interest in world peace and freedom of all man and womankind.

He is survived by a son, Casey Mills of Adams, Mass.; his mother, Kathy Salfinger and her husband Max of Clifton Park, NY; his father, T. Steven Mills of Jackson, Tenn.; and a brother, Steven Mills of Portland, Ore.

A celebration of life will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, at Flagstaff Mountain, Boulder. Take Baseline Road to Flagstaff Road and follow the signs.

Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the Casey Mills College Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

MITCHELL, Rodney Wayne "RW"

March 24, 1925 - May 30, 2002

Rodney Wayne "RW" Mitchell of Broomfield died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Boulder County Hospice in Louisville. He was 77.

He was born March 24, 1925, to Frank D. and Frances (Montgomery) Mitchell in Brewster, Minn.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota.

In 1948, he married GiGi Dubay.

Mr. Mitchell served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He lived in Boulder County for many years.

He founded B & B, permanent and temporary help agencies.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of Broomfield; three sons, Greg Abel Mitchell of Erie, Kim Montgomery Mitchell of Longmont and Rodney Wayne Mitchell Jr. of Louisville; a daughter, Gina Lee Linde of Fort Collins; and two grandchildren, Taylor Mitchell and Jane Linde, both of Fort Collins.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Suite A, Lafayette 80026.

Erlinger Burial and Cremation Service in Broomfield is handling arrangements.

PAETOW, Betty Jeanette 'Nana'

July 28, 1919 - June 5, 2002

Betty Jeanette "Nana" Paetow of Boulder died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Boulder. She was 82.

She was born July 28, 1919, to Benjamin Franklin and Veva Blanche (Stuart) Wilson in Marshall Town, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado Teachers College and was the first person in her family to graduate from college.

On Sept. 18, 1943, she married Walter Otto Paetow in Clinton, Iowa.

Mrs. Paetow had lived in Boulder since 1958. She was a teacher at Martin Park Elementary School and the Niwot four-room schoolhouse.

Mrs. Paetow named Crestview Elementary School and wrote a walking tour of Boulder for the Boulder Valley School District. She also helped carve the Chief Niwot sculpture.

She loved hiking, picnics, playing cards, chocolate and sleeping. She climbed Longs Peak at the age of 50 and hiked Pere'a Canyon at age 70. She also won a gold medal in the Senior Olympics.

Mrs. Paetow was a member of First Baptist Church of Boulder, Boulder Climbers and Senior Saints.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Hannah Marie Paetow; and two brothers, Don and Stuart Wilson.

Mrs. Paetow is survived by a sister, Virginia Colschen of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia Paetow of Boulder; a son, Warren Paetow and his wife Kennetha of Longmont; five grandchildren, Abigail, Ola, Abraham, Shaun and Carlin; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Michelle.

A celebration of Mrs. Paetow's life will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dwight Neuenschwander and Nancy Darnall officiating. The family requests that everyone wear bright colors.

Cremation has been held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carelink in care of the Boulder Senior Center, 909 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder 80302 or the First Baptist Church Children's Missions, 1237 Pine St., Boulder 80302.

PARSONS, Cecil Paul

Oct. 24, 1897 - May 23, 2002

Cecil Paul Parsons of Boulder County died Wednesday, April 24, 2002. He was 104.

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with an engineering degree.

Mr. Parsons was a former resident of Wisconsin, California and Arizona. He and his wife raised their family in Madison, Wis., before his retirement in 1952.

He was able to live independently in his own home his entire life with assistance from Summertree Cares of Longmont United Hospital. He will be remembered for his stubborn independence.

Mr. Parsons was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel (Steven) Parsons in 1997.

He is survived by two sons, Tom Parsons of Boulder and John "Steve" Parsons; a daughter, Mary Ellen "Robin" Replogle; four grandchildren, Scott Parsons of Lafayette, Gregg Parsons, Sidney Replogle and Steve Replogle; and four great-grandchildren, Krista and Karl Parsons of Lafayette and Montana and Jessica Parsons; and numerous friends.

Memorial services have not been planned.

PIETRANGELO, Emidio 'Jimmy'

May 6, 1905 - June 3, 2002

Emidio "Jimmy" Pietrangelo of Rocky River, Ohio, died Monday, June 3, 2002. He was 97.

He was born May 6, 1905, to Antonio and Domenica Pietrangelo. He emigrated from Roccamorice, Italy, to the United States in September 1920.

He married Florence Milano in 1927.

Mr. Pietrangelo's professional culinary career began at the Statler Hotel in Cleveland. He was the head chef at the Allendorf and Monaco restaurants. In 1951, he established Caminati's Restaurant. He was a co-owner and executive chef, responsible for the selection of menu items, food purchase, recipe preparation and quality control. He retired in 1970.

Mr. Pietrangelo made guest appearances on local television shows and prepared gourmet dishes from his private recipe collection. His recipes also appeared in local newspapers.

He enjoyed gardening, home-related projects and visiting his birthplace in Italy.

Mr. Pietrangelo was preceded in death by his wife in 1982; a son-in-law, William; two sisters; and four brothers.

He is survived by three daughters, Dolores Millburn, Roslyn Herrilko and her husband Henry and Patricia Keller and her husband George; two sons, James and his wife Gini and David and his wife Gaynelle of Platteville; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will not be held.

Private funeral services will be held.

Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Corrigan Funeral Homes in Fairview Park, Ohio, is handling arrangements.

PLATT, Cleo Mae

July 29, 1908 - May 31, 2002

Cleo Mae Platt of Boulder died at Boulder Manor on Friday, May 31, 2002, at the age of 93.

Cleo was born in Orengo County, Mo., July 29, 1908, the fourth of nine children of Munroe and Catherine Linebaugh Forester.

She met Valmont, Colo., native Thomas L. Platt in Pomona, Calif., and they were married Easter Sunday of 1929. Cleo and Tom returned to Boulder with their young son, Elwood, in 1931, so Tom could take over as water commissioner for his ailing father. Cleo and Tom were married 53 years, and she claimed there was "never a cross word" between them.

Always active in the community and famous for her cooking, Cleo was a member and Noble Grand of the Ivy Rebeckah Lodge in Boulder and First Baptist Church of Boulder. She and Tom were always "out-doin'" - visiting their many friends and family members or entertaining them at home.

Cleo was a resident at Boulder Manor since 1990.

Cleo is survived by her sister, Ruth Teal of California; her brother, Bert Forester of Arkansas; her grandchildren, Dan Platt and Cindy Long of Nederland; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial graveside service for Cleo will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2002, 3 p.m., Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder.

Donations may be made in Cleo's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 789 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver, Colo. 80203.

Arrangements are being handled by Howe Mortuary, Boulder.
