SCHAEFER, Russell H.
Aug. 27, 1910 - June 1, 2002
Russell Harold Schaefer of Loveland, formerly of Mead, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the Loveland Good Samaritan Village. He was 91.
He was born Aug. 27, 1910, in Brock, Neb., to Rudolph George Schaefer and Jane (Chard) Schaefer.
He married Marcella Lorena McQuin in June 1933 in Peru, Neb.
He attended Peru State Teachers College in Nebraska and after graduation, operated a 24-hour cafe in Union, Neb.
He then worked for Glen L. Martin, building aircraft to support the war effort during World War II.
He then worked for Union Pacific Railroad for five years and in 1950, moved to Colorado and farmed for three years.
From 1955 to 1961, he was a teacher at Mead public schools, later going into carpentry and painting until his retirement in 1975.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella Schaefer of Loveland; two sons, Dr. Lowell T. Schaefer and his wife Marilyn of Longmont, and Lyle H. Schaefer and his wife Ginny of Marrietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Scott and Britton Schaefer of California, and Amanda Schaefer of Ft. Collins; three step grandsons; and several step-great-grandchildren.
No visitation is scheduled.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at the Loveland Good Samaritan Village, 2101 S. Garfield Ave., with Pastor George Huber officiating. Creation has been held.

SCHLUPP, Viola A.
Jan. 2, 1911 - June 2, 2002
Viola A. Schlupp, formerly of Longmont, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Mountain View Health Care Center in Wheat Ridge. She was 91.
She was born Jan. 2, 1911, to William H. and Frieda (Guttenkunst) Johannesson in Lyndhurst, N.J. She moved with her family from New Jersey to Greeley in 1919.
On June 9, 1929, she married Alexander Schlupp in Greeley. She and her husband moved to the Longmont area following their marriage and farmed until 1970. She recently lived near her son in the Denver area.
Mrs. Schlupp was a loving homemaker and mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; and a daughter, Betty Lou Morgan.
Mrs. Schlupp is survived by her son, Richard E. Schlupp of Arvada; a brother, Carl Johannesson of Las Vegas; three sisters, Dorothy Bird of Florida, Edith Twist of Englewood and Margaret Micke of Topeka, Kan.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services are scheduled.
Cremation has been held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
WARFIELD, Marvine Elouise
Nov. 22, 1918 - June 5, 2002
Marvine Elouise Warfield of Longmont died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 83.
She was born Nov. 22, 1918, to Nephi and Anna (Gilbert) Christensen in Manassa, Colo.
On Jan. 16, 1941, she married Oliver F. Warfield in Bisbee, Ariz. They lived in Boulder from 1957 to 2000 before moving to Longmont.
Mrs. Warfield, known as Elouise, was a homemaker and worked 15 years in the home furnishings department at J.C. Penney in Boulder.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the LDS Relief Society and The Canasta Club. She also volunteered, mending clothing at a nursing home.
Mrs. Warfield and her family enjoyed camping and fishing in the mountains.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Robert Warfield and his wife Judy; a daughter, Frances Maroski; two sisters, Zelma Bailey and Norma Stamps; a grandson, Ryan Warfield; a granddaughter, Michelle Thomas; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Thomas; and a great-grandson, Brandon Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Longmont Fourth Ward, 2200 11th Ave. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

CALDERON, Hermilo
Dec. 17, 1946 - July 28, 2002
Hermilo Calderon of Firestone died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Wyoming. He was 55.
He was born Dec. 17, 1946, to Jesus and Maria Luisa (Erives) Calderon in Mexico.
In June 1970, he married Eustolia Dominguez in Mexico. They moved to Colorado later that year.
Mr. Calderon worked for the Fort Lupton School District as a bus mechanic.
He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, where he served in various positions. He was also a member of the Firestone Lions Club.
Mr. Calderon enjoyed traveling and all outdoor activities, especially fishing, hunting and camping. He loved sports and spent many hours playing with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Calderon is survived by his wife; a son, Jesus Fernando of Firestone; three daughters, Ana Calderon of Longmont, Patricia McGowan and her husband Patrick of Las Vegas and Yolanda Calderon of Firestone; three brothers, Gilberto and his wife Ana Luisa of Mexico, Enrique and his wife Maria of Mexico, and Mario Calderon of Firestone; and four sisters, Rosalia Olivas and her husband Tomas, Elida Delgado and her husband Jose, and Carman Hernandez and her husband Manuel, all of Mexico, and Yolanda Calderon of New Mexico.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 2, and from 9 am. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Howe Mortuary; and from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Frederick.
Recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, led by the Rev. Xevier.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bob Whipkey celebrant. Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

COFFEY, John D.
March 29, 1921 - July 19, 2002
John D. Coffey of Clearfield, Utah, died Friday, July 19, 2002, in Clearfield. He was 81.
He was born March 29, 1921, to Clyde and Gladys Coffey in Hutchison, Kan. The family moved to Longmont in 1930. He attended Longmont High School. After graduating in 1939, he became a member of the Joe Bielman boxing team.
On Sept. 16, 1940, he entered the 157th Infantry of the Colorado Army National Guard. He married Maxine West of Niwot while stationed in Camp Barkely, Texas. They later divorced.
Mr. Coffey was chosen to lead a platoon of Rangers. On July 10, 1943, the Rangers landed on the south shore of Sicily ahead of the first wave of assault troops. He was instrumental in the 157th Infantry reaching the north shore of Sicily in 14 days. After his capture on a mission into the mainland of Italy at Salarno, he escaped and made his way back to friendly territory. He rejoined his unit and led the Rangers on more than 100 missions.
In July 1944, he returned to the United States. He was discharged as a staff sergeant in 1945 and returned to Longmont.
He later re-enlisted. He married Bruna Beri in Trieste, while stationed in northern Italy. He was discharged and they settled in Clearfield. He enlisted in the Utah National Guard Paratroopers and retired as a first sergeant in the Green Berets.
Mr. Coffey received the "Russian Medal of Honor, " the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, The Good Conduct Medal and the European Theater of operations medal with four battle stars.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; a son, Alan; and two brothers, George and Robert.
Mr. Coffey is survived by his wife of Clearfield; two daughters, Janice Harrison and her husband Jim of Longmont and Angela Taylor and her husband Dick of Grand Junction; two sons, Dann Coffey and his wife Laine of Edwards and Tom Rickman of Longmont; a brother, Merle of Clearfield; a sister, Dorothy of Hobart, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 27, at Clearfield Community Church, with interment in Lundquist Washington Memorial Park in Clearfield.
DERKSEN, Stephen 'Steve'
May 2, 1950 - July 29, 2002
Stephen "Steve" Derksen of Denver died Monday, July 29, 2002, at University Hospital in Denver. He was 52.
He was born May 2, 1950, to Donald Paul and Lorna (Holmes) Derksen in Greeley. He graduated from Aurora Hinkley High School in 1968.
Mr. Derksen was an equipment operator for various construction companies in the Denver and Northern Colorado areas for the past 20 years.
He lived in Grover, Colo., before moving to Denver in 1992.
Mr. Derksen loved music, playing the guitar, sports and his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Derksen is survived by his mother of Grover; three sons, Abe Derksen of Longmont, Geoff Derksen of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mark Derksen of Longmont; two brothers, Jon Derksen of Grover and Rick Derksen of Longmont; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 1, at Allnutt Funeral Service - Macy Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Hereford Community Church.
Interment will be held in Grover Cemetery in Grover.

GRESKAMP, Edwina C.
GRESKAMP, Edwina C., 74, of Longmont, passed away Aug. 2, 2002, at Longmont United Hospital.
JUAREZ, Henry
Feb. 10, 1929 - July 28, 2002
Henry Juarez of Longmont died Sunday, July 28, 2002, after a lengthy illness. He was 73.
He was born Feb. 10, 1929, to Refugio Juarez and Silvria Rodriguez in Mead. The family moved to Longmont shortly thereafter.
He attended Longmont schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army, serving during the end of World War II. He was patriotic and loyal to his country.
On May 1, 1948, he married Cleofus Garcia in Longmont.
Mr. Juarez worked at the Great Western Sugar Co. in various capacities for 29 years, retiring as the supervisor for the batch plant. He then worked in maintenance for the St. Vrain Valley School District for 17 years. He retired in 1993.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He took great pride in serving on the VFW Color Guard. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Mr. Juarez enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Willard and Joseph Juarez; and two grandsons.
Mr. Juarez is survived by a son, David Juarez and his wife Stephanie of Mead; four daughters, Sylvia Trujillo, Diane Garcia, Alice Garcia and Pat Juarez, all of Longmont; a brother, Charlie Juarez of Longmont; three sisters, Alice Gonzales of Sacramento, Calif., Emma Ginn of San Francisco and Lulu Chacon of Ely, Nev.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his special friend and companion, Joyce Bacon of Longmont.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, and will also be held from 9 a.m. through the vigil services today, Wednesday, July 31, at Howe Mortuary Chapel.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. today at Howe Mortuary Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Brian Morrow officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

KNIGHT, Gordon
Feb. 20, 1950 - July 30, 2002
Gordon Knight of Boulder died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, 5 miles southeast of Estes Park due to injuries sustained in an aircraft accident. He was 52.
He was born Feb. 20, 1950, to Leonard and Elizabeth (Smith) Knight in Scottsbluff, Neb. He attended Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb., and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
On Aug. 15, 1980, he married Susan L. Kruskop in San Pedro, Calif. He moved to Colorado in 1981 and to Boulder in 1988.
Mr. Knight was a warrant officer in the U.S. Army. He served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and Germany and received a Purple Heart.
He was a pilot for Geo-Seis Helicopters of Fort Collins. He was the former owner and microbrewer of Wolf Tongue Brewery in Nederland, Twisted Pine Brewery in Boulder, High Country Brewery in Boulder and Estes Park Brewery in Estes Park.
Mr. Knight is survived by his wife of Boulder; his parents of Scottsbluff; a sister, Becky Hanshew of Scottsbluff; four nieces; and two nephews.
Cremation has been held.
A celebration-of-life service will be held at 5 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 2, at Planet Bluegrass, 500 W. Main St., Lyons, with family and friends officiating. Services will conclude with a reception.
Memorial contributions may be made to any nonprofit firefighters' organization or a charity of the donor's choice.
