LONG, William N.

April 5, 1921 - July 29, 2002

William N. Long of Longmont died Monday, July 29, 2002, in Longmont. He was 81.

He was born April 5, 1921, to Burt Reade and Delma Noell Long in Durham, N.C. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1943 with a degree in chemical engineering. He received a master's degree in sanitary engineering from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

On Dec. 25, 1942, he married Mary Tomlinson in Wilson, N.C. She preceded him in death in 1961. In 1964, he married Joanne Louise Stock in Charlottesville, Va.

In 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the military police in Munich, Germany. He was discharged in 1946.

He then taught high school and worked with the Gaston County, N.C., Health Department as director of sanitation from 1950 to 1957. In 1957, he became a commissioned officer with the United States Public Health Service. He was a regional consultant with the Water Supply and Interstate Carrier Program for Region III, chief of domestic water supply, deputy bureau director of the Bureau of Water Hygiene and deputy director of the Water Supply Division under the Environmental Protection Agency. He retired in 1975 with the rank of Navy captain after 30 years in the Public Health Service.

Mr. Long lived in the Boulder and Longmont communities. He was active in Niwot United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer and financial secretary. He received the Public Health Service Award for Meritorious Service in 1970 and was a member of Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bert Reade Long Jr.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife; a son, William Long Jr.; a daughter, Lynda Flage; and three grandchildren, Stephanie, Elisabeth and Andy Flage.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Niwot United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Matthias Krier officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Niwot United Methodist Church, 7405 Lookout Road, Longmont 80503.

MADDEN, Eliza "Elenore"

Dec. 14, 1913 - July 28, 2002

Eliza "Elenore" Madden of Longmont died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 14, 1913, to Edna and William Martz in Grover Hill, Ohio, and grew up in Michigan.

She married Lawrence Madden on Oct. 6, 1939, in Detroit, Mich.

She received a nursing certificate at Buffalo, N.Y., and became a visiting nurse. She retired from nursing as a school nurse for Lake Shore High School in 1965.

She was a member of the Registered Nurses Association.

Mrs. Madden was an active community volunteer both in Michigan and Longmont, where she and her husband moved in 1968.

She had a very active role in establishing a school for the mentally retarded in St. Clair Shores, Mich., and was involved in the proposed reorganization of the school district there.

In Longmont, she sat on the Board of Directors for the Attention Home, contributed many hours as a volunteer to the O.U.R. Center, volunteered at a local elementary school and took an active role in the peace movement.

She was a frequent contributor to the editorial page of the Daily Times-Call.

She was a caring and helpful neighbor, an avid walker and a "people" person. In her later years, she found comfort and friendship at Quaker Friends.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1996.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Shalibo and her husband Donald of Berkley, Mich., Barbara Abbott and husband Ronald of Longmont; two sisters, Naida Rankin of Ohio, Fern Neyer of Michigan; three brothers, Ford Martz of Michigan, Ken Martz and his wife Carol of Arizona, Rod Martz and his wife Doris of Michigan; two granddaughters, Debra Skroch and her husband Eric of California, Beth Werker and her husband Cameron of Washington, D.C.

Cremation has been held. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Lewellen-Longmont Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the O.U.R. Center in care of Lewellen-Longmont Memorial Chapel.

SEKICH, Jared

Oct. 17, 1985 - July 27, 2002

Jared Nicholas Sekich of Platteville died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Children's Hospital in Denver. He was 16.

He was born Oct. 17, 1985, to Nicholas John and Lisa Jo (Sahl) Sekich in Longmont.

Jared would have been a junior this fall at Roosevelt High School in Johnstown.

He was a member of the Roosevelt Future Farmers of America and was recently elected Sentinel. He was also a member of the Roosevelt Rough Riders basketball team and loved to play.

Jared belonged to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont.

His life revolved around his family and farming. He rode on tractors with his father and grandfathers when he was young. By the age of 10, he knew more about equipment and farming than most people learn in a lifetime. He was always the first one out the door in the morning, ready to work.

Jared was devoted to his family and loved his sisters.

He is survived by his parents of Platteville; two sisters, Amanda and Mariah Sekich of Platteville; his grandparents, Nick and Karen Sekich of Platteville and Everett and Arline Sahl of Longmont; aunts and uncles, Dominic Sekich and Jerry Winterhalder of Denver, Veronica and Cameron Silbaugh of Platteville, Pam and Dennis Martin of Fort Collins, Roxy and Mike Kessler of Mead, Cindy and Mark Ballard of Longmont and Bob Saul of Frederick; his cousin and best friend, Erik Kessler; and numerous other cousins.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 30, at Howe Mortuary Chapel.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Matthew Bolz-Weber officiating. The casket will remain closed. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

A scholarship fund has been established to benefit students at Roosevelt High School affiliated with Future Farmers of America. Contributions may be made to the Future Farmers of America-Roosevelt Chapter in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont 80501.

TREPKE, Norman

TREPKE, Norman, 69, of Boulder, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at LifeBridge Christian Church, with David Bradshaw officiating. Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, from 3 to 8 p.m., at the mortuary.

WATTERS, Ronnie Lyle

WATTERS, Ronnie Lyle, 42, of Loveland, passed away Aug. 2, 2002, in Albuquerque, N.M.

WOOD, Ralph

Feb. 17, 1909 - Aug. 2, 2002

Ralph Wood of Longmont died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 93.

He was born Feb. 17, 1909, to Henry and Racheal (Storer) Wood near Hill City, Kan. In 1910, his family moved to a ranch in eastern Colorado. He attended the Tuttle Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, Colo., in 1926. He graduated from Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University, with a degree in chemistry.

On July 3, 1933, he married Beulah Williams in Cheyenne Wells, Colo.

Mr. Wood was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture doing sugar beet research in Fort Collins from 1937 to 1942. At the outbreak of World War II, he was employed by Atlas Powder in St. Louis in the production of explosives. He was the director of research for the Great Western Sugar Co., working in Billings, Mont., from 1943 to 1948 and at the Longmont Research Station from 1948 until his retirement in 1975. He made three trips around the world while marketing sugar beet research.

Mr. Wood was a member of Sigma Chi Social Fraternity, Sigma Xi Scientific Society and the White Rock Rod and Gun Club, and he was listed in "American Men of Science." He was past president of the West Coast Beet Seed Co., past president of the Beet Sugar Development Association and a Longmont resident since 1948.

As an artist and master wood worker, he enjoyed painting and making many things from wood. He enjoyed flying and was a private pilot for many years.

Mr. Wood was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of Longmont; and a son, Larry Wood and his wife Lois of Hiawatha, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m Monday, Aug. 5, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow the funeral at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

WOOLWINE, Alouise J.

Feb. 24, 1926 - July 28, 2002

Alouise J. Woolwine of Boulder died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Boulder. She was 76.

She was born Feb. 24, 1926, to Albert and Olive (Roberts) Starling in Farnam, Neb.

On Feb. 2, 1952, she married Robert N. Woolwine in Raton, N.M. Mrs. Woolwine was retired from U S West.

A resident of Boulder County for 32 years, she was a member of Telephone Pioneers and Valmont Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Woolwine was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother, Merle K. Starling.

She is survived by a son, Randy Woolwine and his wife Mary of Winter Park; a daughter, Donna Lutz and her husband Randy of Longmont; a grandson, Spencer Woolwine of Winter Park; and a sister, Adelia Maloney of Tulia, Texas.

No visitation will be held. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Valmont Community Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Stephen Bird officiating. Private interment will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 7535 E. Hampden Ave., No. 600, Denver 80231 or Valmont Presbyterian Church, 3262 N. 61st St., Boulder 80301.

Arrangements are being handled by Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder 80301.

CINK, Ray

Dec. 8, 1914 - Oct. 7, 2002

Ray Cink of Lyons died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Berthoud Living Center in Berthoud. He was 87.

He was born Dec. 8, 1914, to Frank and Emma (Koranda) Cink in Seward, Neb.

On Oct. 3, 1934, he married Mary Chermok in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mr. Cink worked as an independent distributor of gas and oil to commercial and agriculture clients for Continental Oil Co. for 31 years. He also owned and operated a Conoco service station in Lyons.

He moved to Lyons in 1940 from Nebraska.

Mr. Cink served on the Sewer Board and Lyons Town Council for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Mr. Cink is survived by his wife of Lyons; two daughters, Darlene Bachy of Lyons and Arlene Elwood and her husband Farren of Lyons; four grandchildren, Robert L. Bachy Jr. of Lyons, Dennis R. Bachy and Saray Danialson of Longmont, Dan R. Elwood and his wife Vicki of Longmont, and Tammy Elwood and her fiancé Rick Crowell of Mead; and four great-grandchildren, Sheena Bachy of Phoenix, Dennis R. Bachy Jr. of Mead, Kyle Crowell of Longmont and Daniel F. Elwood of Longmont.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with David Bradshaw of LifeBridge Christian Church officiating.

Interment will be in Foothills Gardens of Memory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

COBLE, Gerald Mason 'Jerry'

Sept. 11, 1926 - Oct. 1, 2002

Gerald Mason "Jerry" Coble, formerly of Longmont, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, in Pensacola, Fla. He was 76.

He was born Sept. 11, 1926, to Preston A. and Orpha Ann Coble in Prior, Mo., and grew up in Longmont.

Mr. Coble served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1947.

He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder and received his master's degree in library science from the University of Denver.

Mr. Coble married Donna Hennigh.

He worked in college and university library administration and for the Federal Government with the Veterans' Administration, Bureau of Naval Personnel and CNET (Naval Education and Training).

Mr. Coble is survived by his wife of Pensacola, two daughters, two sons, three granddaughters and a great-grandson.

Interment will be held Monday, Oct. 14, at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.

FLETCHER, Barbara Jean

FLETCHER, Barbara Jean, 36, of Longmont, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville.

HEINEKE, David W.

Jan. 29, 1952 - Oct. 2, 2002

David W. Heineke of Berthoud died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 50.

He was born Jan. 29, 1952, to Hilton and Rosemary (Roberts) Heineke in Peoria, Ill.

On March 17, 1973, he married Marsha Bruns in Worthington, Minn.

Mr. Heineke worked for EZ Excavating of Erie as a pipeline excavation tester.

He moved to Longmont in 1978 from St. Cloud, Minn., and to Berthoud in 1991.

Mr. Heineke was of the Catholic faith.

He was a member of the Mead Fishing Club, Pheasants Forever and Moose Lodge No. 1548.

He loved hunting, fishing and hosting fish fries for his family and friends. He was a Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed spending time with his dog.

Mr. Heineke was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Hilton Heineke Jr.

He is survived by his wife of Berthoud; a son, Tyson Heineke of Fort Collins; a daughter, Krista Heineke of New Orleans; his mother of St. Cloud; a brother, Mike Heineke and his wife Sue of Steamboat Springs; five sisters, Linda Sholes and her husband David of Utica, Minn., Elizabeth Clumeck and her husband Michael of Mission Viejo, Calif., Kathy Giglio and her husband Nick of Canyon Country, Calif., Susan Mackert and her husband Cass of St. Cloud and Mary Haertzen and her husband David of Apple Valley, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Spirit of Peace Catholic Church, 1500 Hover St., with the Rev. Michael Flaska as celebrant. Cremation will follow at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Visitation will be held at the church prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the David Heineke Memorial for the Mead Fishing Club in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
