REHN, Sergeant First Class Randall Randy Scott

REHN, Sergeant First Class Randall Randy Scott, 36, Longmont, died April 3, 2003, while serving his country in Baghdad, Iraq. Memorial service to be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Brian Morrow officiating. SPIDEL, Thelma L.

SPIDEL, Thelma L., 89, of Longmont, died April 7, 2003, at Longmont United Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Howe Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, April 9, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Nikki Johnson presiding. Interment will take place in Pennsylvania later this week.

TULLY, Marie J.

Jan. 17, 1920 - April 1, 2003

Marie J. Tully of Boulder died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Longmont of congestive heart failure. She was 83.

She was born Jan. 17, 1920, to Joseph and Frances (Hoffarth) O'Hearn in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

On June 20, 1942, she married Charles P. Tully in Poughkeepsie.

Mrs. Tully loved birds and enjoyed feeding and watching them.

She will be remembered as a strong woman who took care of her family.

Mrs. Tully was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Floughton; three brothers, Dick, Vinnie and Frank O'Hearn; and a sister, Delores O'Hearn.

She is survived by her husband of Boulder; a daughter, Arleen Queen of Longmont; a son, Charles Tully Jr. of Manning, N.D.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kay Stanton of Poughkeepsie, Patty Ott of Modeasto, Calif., and Joan Neal of Phoenix; and a brother, Tom O'Hearn of Poughkeepsie.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 S. Boulder Road, Boulder 80303.

Erlinger Cremation Service in Longmont is handling arrangements.

CARNES, Florence

April 29, 1927 - May 27, 2003

Florence Ann Carnes of Longmont died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at HospiceCare Center of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.

Mrs. Carnes was born April 29, 1927, to Harvey and Helen Neuleib in Elysian, Minn. She was raised in Minnesota and Iowa.

She graduated from Central High School and MacPhail Business College in Minneapolis in 1945 with honors.

She married Rex A. Carnes on July 29, 1945, in a dress made from the material of a parachute that saved his life in World War II. They resided in England, Hawaii, Illinois, Alabama, California, Washington, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico prior to residing in Longmont in 1983.

Mrs. Carnes worked for General Dynamics and Ramo Woldridge and with her husband in insurance and investments until they retired in 1985.

Mrs. Carnes was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Divine.

She is survived by her husband, Rex Carnes; her daughter, Rexanne Tucker and her husband Charlie of Arivaca, Ariz.; her son, Mark Carnes and his wife Sally of Berthoud; her sister, Linda Lindberg and her husband William of Kennedy, Minn.; two nephews, Andrew and John; seven grandchildren, Aaron Carnes, Matthew Carnes and his wife Anna, Joshua Carnes and Sarah Miller of Colorado, and Thoreau Smiley, Devon Tucker and Robert Tucker of Arizona; three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Taylor Carnes and Jocelyn Athena Tucker; and many other nieces, nephews, and close friends and relatives.

Mrs. Carnes was a devout member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont through bible studies and women's group at Bethlehem. She was a charter member and an officer of the Disabled American Veterans Unit 16 and was a very active TOPS member, where she served for many years as an officer. She served as secretary and director in Chapter No. 140 of AARP in Longmont.

She was a lady of great empathy and understanding and loved by her peers. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was well loved by those she came in contact with. She was always a very upbeat person who was a joy to be around and to be with.

Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 W. 15th Ave.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, May 30, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Glenn Isernhagen officiating. Lunch will follow in Peace Fellowship Hall at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Special music will be by The Legacy Quartet.

Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the cemetery at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at German Lake, Le Suer, Minn.

The family appreciates the compassion and end-of-life care and comfort of Hospice of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.

Memorial contributions for a new church organ may be made in Florence's name to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

HARNOIS, John "Jack"

Feb. 5, 1913 - May 20, 2003

John "Jack" Harnois of Louisville died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, in Louisville. He was 90.

Mr. Harnois was born Feb. 5, 1913, to Marshall and Eleanor (McCall) Harnois in Missoula, Mont.

In 1938, he married Betty Hawk in California.

Mr. Harnois moved to Boulder County in 1957 and to Longmont in 1987.

He owned and operated Eads News and the Buffalo Smokeshop in Boulder until he retired.

Mr. Harnois was the organist at Mountain View Methodist Church for 20 years and the organist at First Congregational United Church of Christ for several years.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Gold Key Club and Longmont Choral.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and a sister.

Mr. Harnois is survived by his wife; a son, Malcolm; three daughters, Nan, Beth and Mary Jane; and five grandchildren.

Private funeral services have been held.

HAVENS, Margaret "Esther"

HAVENS, Margaret "Esther, " 90, Longmont, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Longmont United Hospital. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. Funeral service to be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.

LITTLE, Betty E. (DeLong)

July 30, 1928 - May 26, 2003

Betty E. (DeLong) Little of Longmont died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 74.

Mrs. Little was born July 30, 1928, in Woodland Park.

She was retired.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacque; a son, Tracy; and a grandson, Skipper Paul.

Mrs. Little is survived by three daughters, Sandra Skitt of Denver, Paula Washburn of Commerce City and Stacey Pasco of Loveland; a son, Ricky Wecker of Sterling; four brothers, Robert DeLong of VanBuren, Ark., Jack DeLong of Greeley, Charles DeLong of Arvada and Theodore DeLong of Eads, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Cremation was handled by the National Cremation Society in Denver.

Memorial services are pending.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society.

LOPEZ, Johnny Michael "Fatso"

Dec. 25, 1966 - May 22, 2003

Johnny Michael 'Fatso' Lopez of Carson City, Nev., formerly of Longmont, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Fountain, Colo. He was 36.

Mr. Lopez was born Dec. 25, 1966, to Fernando H. Sr. and Emma (Nevarez) Lopez in San Jose, Calif.

He moved to Longmont from the San Jose area in 1994. He moved to Carson City in June 2002.

On Jan. 2, 1995, Mr. Lopez married Leticia Padilla in Monterey, Calif.

He was a painter and a painting contractor.

Mr. Lopez loved spending time outdoors and with his children. He especially enjoyed taking his children camping and hiking.

He was preceded in death by his father on March 30, 2002.

Mr. Lopez is survived by his mother of Carson City; his wife of Carson City; five sons, Richard, Johnny Michael, Tommy Lee, Steven and Eli; four daughters, Melaena, Miette, Adeline and Roxanne; three brothers, Fernando Lopez Jr. and his wife Chrissy of San Jose, Gilbert Nevarez of Fountain and Robert Garcia of Los Angeles; three sisters, Adeline Nomura and her husband Sonny of Colorado Springs, Margie Lopez of Colorado Springs and Martina Molina and her husband Ismael of Milliken.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, May 29, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with the family present to greet friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill McIntyre of Victory Chapel in Fort Collins officiating.

Interment will be in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnny Michael Lopez Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

MURPHY, Gertrude

Nov. 21, 1917 - May 26, 2003

Gertrude M. Murphy of Longmont died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 85.

Mrs. Murphy was born Nov. 21, 1917, to John and Margaret (Kitzinger) Morrison in Hollidaysburg, Pa.

On Jan. 26, 1946, she married John Murphy in Jersey City, N.J.

She came to Longmont from Hollidaysburg in 1994.

Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker. She also was a designer, artist and painter.

She was a member of Spirit of Peace Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary.

She will be remembered for the love and affection she showed her family and friends.

Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and a sister, Betty Glasson.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Murphy and his wife Jane of Longmont; a daughter, Mariann Murphy and her husband John DAlusio of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Morris of Macungie, Pa., and Pat Bagnato of Port Washington, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Sean C. Murphy and Christopher J. Murphy, both of Longmont.

Cremation has been handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 28, at Spirit of Peace Catholic Church in Longmont.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Spirit of Peace Catholic Church.

MURPHY, Kirsten

Aug. 23, 1940 - May 25, 2003

Kirsten Murphy of Longmont died of natural causes Sunday, May 25, 2003, at her home. She was 62.

She was born Aug. 23, 1940, near Boston to Fred and Margaret (Blocher) Kerrick. She grew up in Roxbury, Mass.

Mrs. Murphy earned her bachelor of science degree from Cornell University with a major in food economy.

She was married to Gene Murphy, but they were later divorced.

Mrs. Murphy worked for Pfizer Pharmaceutical and then for Fritsche-Dodge-Alcott Flavors as a flavor chemist in New York City. She later owned and operated an inn in Proctorsville, Vt., for 10 years.

Mrs. Murphy sustained a spinal injury in 1995 that left her a quadriplegic.

She came to live in Longmont seven years ago.

Mrs. Murphy attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Longmont. She volunteered at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver and with the St. Vrain Adult Education Program in Longmont.

She enjoyed gardening, watching movies and taking care of her two dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by her close friend and companion, Marcel Perret of Longmont; a son, Colin Murphy of Virginia; a grandson, Dillon Murphy of Virginia; a brother, John Kerrick of Peterborough, N.H.; and two sisters, Mary Arntz and her husband Dennis of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Ann McClellan and her husband Bruce of Moultonborough, N.H.

Cremation has taken place at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1500 Ninth Ave., Longmont. The Rev. Anne D. Kerr will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Center For People With Disabilities, 1765 Range, Boulder 80301.
