SPENCE, Robert L. 'Bob'

Dec. 8, 1938 - Sept. 7, 2004

Robert L. 'Bob' Spence of Longmont died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties Care Center in Louisville. He was 65.

He was born Dec. 8, 1938, in Miami, Okla., to Benjamin and Pearl (Dry) Spence.

Mr. Spence served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961 testing jet engines and was a member of Strategic Air Command.

He married Joan (McMahan) Danielson on Aug. 6, 1979, in Greeley.

Mr. Spence lived in Weld County from 1997 until 2003. He moved to Longmont in 2003 from Johnstown.

He worked for Wycliffe Bible Translators for 13 years and Plastic Art Products of Greeley. He was also a pastor at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Longmont. He will be remembered for listening to others and helping anyone who came to him through his personal ministry at work. He started the Cancer Care Group, was a part of organizing the Mens Connection Ministry and ministered to seniors at RMCC.

Mr. Spence enjoyed airplanes and playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William E. Bill Spence in 1999; and a brother, Kenneth Spence.

Mr. Spence is survived by his wife; a son, Scott Danielson and his wife Diane of Fort Collins; two daughters, Michele Cole of Greeley and Debra Menke and her husband Bill of Montrose; a daughter-in-law, Bridget Spence of El Cajon, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Adkins of Chilhowee, Mo., and Nancy Hefley of Baxter Springs, Kan.; and eight grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob Spence of El Cajon, Lucas Lyons, Mariah Cole and Kyle Cole of Greeley, Matthew Menke, Jennifer Major and Kenney Steinbach.

Visitation will take place prior to the funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, with Alan Ahlgrim of the church officiating. Cremation will follow the services at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mountain Christian Church and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St. Longmont 80501.

WALCOTT, Letha Mae

June 26, 1921 - Aug. 30, 2004

Letha Mae Walcott, formerly of Longmont, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Mesa, Ariz., of natural causes. She was 83.

She was born June 26, 1921, in Long Island, Kan., to Walter and Mildred (Stalder) Short.

She married Eldred A. Walcott on Aug. 11, 1943, in Louisiana.

Mrs. Walcott lived in Longmont from 1946 until 1980. She was a kindergarten teacher in the St. Vrain Valley School District for 22 years, and retired in 1979. The couple moved to Mesa in the 1980s.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the American Association of University Women and was a hospital volunteer. She was also a member of Church of the Master Presbyterian in Mesa. Her hobbies included needlework and quilting.

Mrs. Walcott is survived by her husband of Mesa; two daughters, Lynne Young of Worley, Idaho, and Donna Vojta of Boulder; four grandsons, Jason Young of Goldendale, Wash., Jeremy Young of Spokane, Wash., Ernst Vojta of Boulder and Christopher Vojta of Rockville, Md.; and three great-grandchildren, Krystian, Nathan and Jacob Young.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 3, at Mountain View Mortuary Chapel in Mesa, with the Revs. John Flahiff and Jason Young officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa.

WOOD, Jean H.

WOOD, Jean H., 60, of Loveland, formerly of Boulder and Longmont, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Loveland. Her death is under the coroners investigation. She is survived by her husband, Harold Wood of Loveland; two daughters, Brooke Sewell of Miliken and Dawn Ravitz of New York City; and her mother, Marie Henderson of Boulder.Visitation will be held from at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 Broadway, Boulder with the Rev. Gene Larsen officiating.

XANDER, Lucille

Feb. 13, 1920 - Sept. 4, 2004

Lucille Xander of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Longmont, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in Gilbert, Ariz. She was 84.

She was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Edina, Mo., to Martin Edward and Margaret Ann (Clark) Sheridan. She graduated from St. Josephs Catholic School in Edina and attended St. Joseph Cathedral School.

She married Howard Wilson Xander on Dec. 22, 1940, in Edina, where they resided until moving to Longmont in 1952.

Mrs. Xander worked for Rogers Jewelry in Longmont from 1955 to 1962. In 1963, she attended Ricardos Beauty School in Denver, and from 1964 until 1968 she owned and operated the White Orchid Beauty Salon. In 1971 she and Mr. Xander owned and operated Xanders Jewelry until her retirement in 1978. The couple were then snowbirds for a number of years before moving to Mesa in 1990.

Mrs. Xander attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glennan and Louis Sheridan; a sister, Agnes Karhoff; and a grandson.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Gary Xander and his wife Stella of Longmont; two daughters, Judith Ann Wright and her husband Mason of Westminster and Linda K. Xander of Mesa; a brother, Hubert Sheridan of Canyon, Texas; a sister, Ada Mae Warford of Iowa Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A vigil service and recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Howe Mortuary Chapel with Deacon Mike Berens presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Brian Morrow officiating.

ANDERSON, Frank W.

ANDERSON, Frank W., 83, of Longmont, passed away Sept. 27, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital.

ANDREINE, Marilyn

Aug. 11, 1927 - Sept. 26, 2004

Marilyn Louise Mickey Andreine of Longmont died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Colorado Acute Specialty Care Hospital in Denver, due to complications following bypass surgery. She was 77.

She was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Johnstown, Pa., to Jess and Helen (McConnell) Cochran. She grew up and attended schools in Patton, Moxam, Kelso, Tire Hill and Ebensburg, Pa.

She married Harry Eugene Andreine on April 26, 1946, in Kelso. In 1953, the couple moved their family to North Hollywood, Calif., and to Santa Clara, Calif., in 1961.

Mrs. Andreine worked for 18 years in General Electrics Nuclear Division as a supervisor in the bindery department. She retired in 1989. She moved to Longmont in 2001 to be closer to her daughter.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, quilting and cross-stitching, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Andreine was preceded in death by her husband in 1999.

She is survived by a son, Harry Richard Rick Andreine and his wife Kelly of Santa Clara, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Andreine of Longmont; a brother, Paul Dewey Cochran and his wife Dolores of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Kevin Michael Andreine, Kellie Marie Andreine and Kathryn Michelle Andreine.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on today, Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Further arrangements are being handled by Lima Sunnyvale Mortuary in Sunnyvale, Calif. Inurnment of the cremains will be in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, Calif.

BRUGH, Ocie S.

July 28, 1913 - Sept. 27, 2004

Ocie S. Brugh of Longmont died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Peaks Care Center in Longmont. She was 91.

She was born July 28, 1913, in Roanoke, Va., to Coonrod and Mary (Graham) Stuart.

She married Edwin Brugh on April 30, 1938, in Hollins, Va. She moved to Golden in June 1952 and then to Longmont in 1981.

Mrs. Brugh was a homemaker. She and her husband owned Buchanan Cleaners in Virginia.

She was a member of Longmont Seventh Day Adventist Church since moving to Longmont, and a member of Golden Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years, where she was a deaconess and church greeter.

Mrs. Brugh loved crocheting, reading, flowers, growing roses, animals, church activities, raising her family and backpacking with her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; and 14 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Brugh of Grand Lake and Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at Seventh Day Adventist Church of Longmont, 1712 Mountain View Ave. in Longmont, with the Rev. Jerry Nowack officiating. Entombment will be at 1:30 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 30, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver.

BURROWS, Gisela

BURROWS, Gisela, 62, of Firestone, died at her home Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004.

CALDWELL, Nita Claire

Aug. 19, 1910 - Sept. 25, 2004

N. Claire Caldwell died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, in Boulder. She was 94.

She was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Swanton, Neb., to Robert E. and Edyth (Ellinger) Caldwell.

Ms. Caldwell graduated from York High School in Nebraska, where she edited the yearbook, played cello in the orchestra and served as president of the student council. She also attended York College and the University of Nebraska.

She worked as an administrative assistant for several decades. She also worked for the Nebraska secretary of state, several Nebraska attorneys, United Airlines, the Boeing School of Aeronautics and the Welfare Federation of Los Angeles.

As a secretary at United Airlines during World War II, Ms. Caldwell helped establish the Air Transport Commands Pacific operations office for navigation.

After the war, she worked in Italy for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration as a photographic editor.

Ms. Caldwell completed her career at Thompson, Ramo and Woolrich in Los Angeles, providing support to the Pioneer spacecraft engineering team.

She moved to Longmont in 1976 after her retirement. She moved to Boulder in 1994.

She will be remembered for her jokes and humorous stories and her ability to remember events in minute detail.

Ms. Caldwell was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan Caldwell and Avery Caldwell; a sister, Jane Sandall; and a grand-niece, Heidi Bauer.

She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, John Caldwell of Longmont, Tom Caldwell of Greeley, Kathleen Caldwell of Brooksville, Maine, Miriam Bauer of Raleigh, N.C., Kathy Aiken and Larry Caldwell of Lincoln, Neb., and James Sandall of Brooklyn, Mich.; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; and four great-great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Anne Kear of First Congregational Church of Christ officiating. Cremation is being handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

DEYO, Elizabeth

May 16, 1925 - Sept. 27, 2004

Elizabeth Deyo of Berthoud died of cancer Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at the Berthoud Living Center. She was 79.

Mrs. Deyo was born May 16, 1925, in Newburgh, N.Y., to Matthew and Mary (Valusek) Gida.

She married Frank Deyo in Cornwall, N.Y., on July 6, 1946. They moved to Longmont in 1978 and to Berthoud in 1985.

Mrs. Deyo was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and music. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Deyo; a granddaughter, Sheila Deyo; and three brothers.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Bob Deyo and his wife Ruthann of Berthoud; a daughter, Nancy Smith and her husband Bill of Longmont; a brother, Joseph Gida of Newburgh, N.Y.; three sisters, Agnes Scraggs of Napanoch, N.Y., Anna Davis of Wurtsboro, N.Y., and Helen Thompson of Hewitt, Texas; four grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements have been completed. At the request of Mrs. Deyo, there will be no services.

Allnut Funeral Home in Loveland handled arrangements.

FAHY, William Vernon

April 17, 1922 - Sept. 25, 2004

Vernon Fahy of Longmont died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital.

He was born April 17, 1922, in Hanks, N.D., to James and Josephine Fahy. He graduated from St. Leos High School in 1940. Mr. Fahy enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1944.

He married Margaret Norby on July 12, 1947.

Mr. Fahy worked in the engineering, planning and administration divisions for the city of Minot, N.D., beginning in 1948. He accepted appointment as city manager of Minot in 1965. He resigned that position in 1972 to accept appointment as state engineer and secretary to the State Water Commission. He continued in that position until his retirement in 1989. In his retirement, he spent time as a water resource consultant for the Garrison Conservancy district and the North Dakota Wetlands Trust Committee.

Mr. Fahy will be remembered for his passion for horses and golf. He also enjoyed the family cabin in Lake Metigoshe, N. D., and attending his grandchildrens sporting events.

Mr. Fahy and his wife moved to Longmont in December 2002.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Holly Widmann and her husband George of Calipatria, Calif. and Patricia Fahy, M.D., and her husband Bruce Katuna, M.D. of Longmont; two sons, Michael Fahy and his wife Candace of Colorado Springs and David Fahy, P.E., of Houston; a brother, Patrick Fahy and his wife Kay of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren, Kelly Fahy and Lee Fahy of Fargo, N.D., Cory and Jamie Katuna of Longmont, Gretchen Whannel of Calipatria and James Shoemaker of Kingman, Ariz.; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jonathon Whannel of Calipatria and James and Renette Shoemaker of Kingman.

Funeral services will be at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck, N.D., on Monday, Oct. 4 followed by a family graveside service at Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, N.D.

Ahlberg Funeral Chapel is handling local arrangements.
