COOPER, Paul D.

June 20, 1918 - Dec. 3, 2004

Paul D. Cooper of Longmont died at Longmont United Hospital Friday, Dec. 3, 2004. He was 86.

Mr. Cooper was born on June 20, 1918, to William Henry and Edna (McCurdy) Cooper in Colorado Springs. He married Esther Irene Brester on May 12, 1940, in Sterling.

Mr. Cooper served in the United States Army during World War II.

Since 1946, he owned and operated Pauls Custom Grinding, a machine and engine rebuilding shop in Denver. The business is still owned by his family. He moved to Longmont from Wheat Ridge in 1981. He was an honorary member of the Denver Mounted Police Department.

Mr. Cooper was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed snowmobiling. He also enjoyed boating at Grand Lake and living on his farm in the Longmont area. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Gary Cooper and his wife Gigi of Broomfield; two daughters, Paula Potter of Arvada and Linda Kraskey and her husband Steven of Longmont; seven grandchildren, Tommy Potter, Tracy Croteau, Casey Sauer, Cory, Reid and Alex Cooper and Katie Kraskey; and four great-grandchildren, Sadie and Sophie Croteau, Robert Dominic Sauer and Laini Potter.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements have been made with Howe Mortuary of Longmont. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Longmont United Hospital Trust Fund, Third Floor Nursing Staff, 1380 Tulip St., Suite A, Longmont 80501.

DOWLING, Frank

Nov. 8, 1909 - Dec. 3, 2004

Frank Dowling, of Longmont, formerly of Erie, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Millbrooks Home in Longmont. He was 95.

He was born Nov. 8, 1909, to Patrick and Elizabeth (Cowley) Dowling in Denver.

He spent his early years living in the Great Divide area and attending Moffat County schools.

Mr. Dowling married Jeanette Marie Strehlow on Oct. 12, 1928, in Flint, Mich.

Mr. Dowling was a coal miner at various mines in Colorado and was a member of the United Mine Workers. He enjoyed going out to eat, visiting with people, gardening and yard work. He especially loved to spend time with his great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Dowling; a son, Jack Dowling; three sisters; and two brothers.

Mr. Dowling is survived by a granddaughter, Linda Zeutzius and her husband David of Erie; two great grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua Zeutzius of Erie; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday Dec. 5, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. Funeral service to be held 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Tom Duckworth of Odyssey Health Care officiating. FITZGERALD, Teresa Lynn

FITZGERALD, Teresa Lynn, 34, of Longmont, died Dec. 6, 2004, at her home. Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. at Spirit of Peace Catholic Church, 1500 Hover Road, Reverend Frank Maroney officiating. FOLLENDER, Alan

FOLLENDER, Alan, 62, of Longmont, died Dec. 6, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary in Longmont. A celebration of Alans life will be held at a later time.

GHESQUIERE, Albert

July 15, 1923 - Dec. 6, 2004

Albert J. Ghesquiere of Arvada, formerly of Longmont, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at HospiceCare Center in Louisville. He was 81.

He was born July 15, 1923, to Camiel and Phyllis (Ayers) Ghesquiere in Lafayette.

Mr. Ghesquiere was a lifetime resident of the Longmont and Mead area. On Aug. 16, 1944, he married Ruby F. Rhoads in Mead. He farmed in the Mead area for several years. In 1963 he began working construction. He helped build the Colorado State Prison in Caņon City, the Antler Hotel in Colorado Springs and Moby Arena at Colorado State University.

He retired in 1985. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, camping and spending the winters in Arizona and Florida.

Mr. Ghesquiere was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Person.

He is survived by his wife of Arvada; two daughters, Alberta Jacobsen and her husband Glenn of Greeley and Debbie Bates and her husband Tracy of Milliken; a brother, Frans Chessy Ghesquiere and his wife Dorothy of Longmont; a sister, Irene Schell and her husband John of Longmont; four grandchildren, Tamela Johnson and her husband George of Long Beach, Calif., Brian Bates and his wife Sally of Thornton; Stephanie Ayres and her husband Dave of Johnstown and Cheryl Olsen and her husband Brad of Milliken; five great-grandchildren, Meagan, Charity and Noah Johnson of Long Beach, Calif., Riley Ayres of Johnstown and Isabella Bates of Thornton.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, with a vigil service to be held at 7 p.m. at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, with Deacon Mike Berens presiding. Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fourth Avenue and Collyer Street, with the Rev. Brian Morrow celebrant. Entombment to follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum. GOETSCH, Pauline S.

Oct. 24, 1911 - Dec. 1, 2004

Pauline Sorensen Goetsch of Longmont died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Peaks Care Center. She was 93.

She was born Oct. 24, 1911, in Colorado Springs to Soren Jens Sam and Julia Velma Dot (Warner) Sorensen. At the age of 7, she moved to Brewster, Kan., where she graduated from high school in 1928.

She married Walter John Goetsch on Sept. 19, 1928, in Atwood, Kan. They eloped. They were married 681/2 years until Walts death on Jan. 6, 1997. In 1939, they moved from Colby, Kan., to Greeley. They moved to Longmont in 1979.

In Greeley, she worked at Dodds Dress Shop and the Curtis Shoe Co. for several years.

She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. In Longmont, she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and The Peaks Care Center Advisory Board.

She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed needlepoint, crewel and embroidery. She loved God, Walt, her family, Colorado, the mountains, red roses and all the people who work at The Peaks Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walt; two daughters-in-law, Virgene Goetsch and Margaret Goetsch; two grandchildren, Jon and Judy Sarchet; and a great-grandson, Brian Goetsch.

She is survived by three sons, Marno Goetsch (Sally) of Lompoc, Calif., Leo Goetsch of Leawood, Kan., and Jo Goetsch (Karen) of Windsor; a daughter, Deanne Sarchet (Robert) of Longmont; 12 grandchildren, Chris (Vela) Goetsch, Brad (Linda) Goetsch, Tracey Goetsch, Susan (Bob) Perry, Mike (Carlene) Goetsch, Mark (Kim) Goetsch, Sharyl (Darryl) Priest, Sharron (Greg) Gaudet, Richard (Lori) Sarchet, Stacey (Scott) Gydesen, Anne (Tondo) Waldron and John Gamble; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Edith (Fabian) Smith.

Her greatest achievement, along with Walt, was raising a family whose members all love each other.

A celebration of Paulines life will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 15th Ave., Longmont, at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, with Pastor Matthew Bolz-Weber officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley at 2:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

HANDLEY, Harold Dean

Oct. 25, 1926 - Oct. 18, 2004

Harold Dean Handley of Berthoud died on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004. He was 77.

He was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Mankato, Kan., to John and Elizabeth (Gates) Handley.

Mr. Handley married Helen Wallace on Aug. 23, 1947, in Salina, Kan.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict.

In 1958 Mr. Handley moved to Colorado, working for Montgomery Ward and later Target stores in various management capacities. After retirement he moved to Berthoud where he raised and trained thoroughbred horses. He was a member and past president of the Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

He was preceded in death by six siblings; and a daughter, MerriLee Handley Warner.

Mr. Handley is survived by his wife; a son, Brad of Berthoud; a daughter, Shara Handley Pool of Fort Collins; three granddaughters, Kaitlin Warner of Loveland and Molly and Jenny Handley of Berthoud; a sister, Betty Basel, of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremations arrangements have been made with Allnutt Hunter Chapel in Loveland.

O'CONNOR, William

O'CONNOR, William, 58, of Longmont, died at his home on Dec. 6, 2004.

OSBORNE, Cleata Wright

Aug. 28, 1912 - Dec. 2, 2004

Cleata Wright Osborne of Lakewood died of cancer Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at home. She was 92.

She was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Piggott, Ark., to Valley and Rhoda (Braden) Wright.

She moved to Longmont in 1931, where she married Claude Osborne. She remained in Longmont until 1950. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Osborne helped establish the Longmont Church of Christ. Mrs. Osborne later lived in Kansas and Nebraska but returned to the Denver area in 1973.

She worked as a waitress for more than 45 years. She was active in the Englewood Church of Christ for more than 25 years.

She will be remembered for her great cooking and storytelling and for the many quilts she pieced.

Mrs. Osborne was preceded in death by two sons, Clement Dwight Osborne and Russell Gordon Osborne; a sister; and six brothers.

She is survived by seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; and four brothers.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, 29th Street and Wadsworth Boulevard in Wheat Ridge. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Englewood Church of Christ, 4690 S. Logan St. in Englewood.

Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mountain View Cemetery, 620 11th Ave., Longmont. Mrs. Osborne will be interred alongside her son Clement.

PALMER, Erma Lee Louise

PALMER, Erma Lee Louise of Longmont died Dec. 6, 2004, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 72. A visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at the Stake Center, Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, 1721 Red Cloud Road, Longmont, with Bishop Daniel Witt officiating. Interment will follow at the Foothills Gardens of Memory. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Colorado Affiliate, 2480 W. 26th Ave., Suite 120B, Denver 80211 or the Childrens Hospital Foundation, 1129 E. 17th Ave., Denver 80218.

PITTS, Hazel 'May' Brooks

May 8, 1927 to Nov. 30, 2004

Hazel May Brooks Pitts of Orem, Utah, formerly of Longmont, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at her home, of natural causes. She was 77.

She was born May 8, 1927, in DeBeque, Colo., to Frank and Ellen May (Dixon) Stulick.

On Dec. 2, 1954, she married Charles Lee Pitts in the Manti temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah. They lived in Longmont from 1971 to 1992.

Mrs. Pitts was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Orem.

She was also involved with the Boy Scouts organization and enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and knitting. While living in Alaska from 1956 to 1971, she learned to love fishing.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Sutton.

Mrs. Pitts is survived by her husband of Orem; two sons, Ken Pitts of Chugiak, Ala., and Rodger Pitts and his wife Shauna of Orem; two daughters, Carol Alessandro and her husband Glenn of Las Vegas and Sharon Andrews of Orem; eight grandchildren, Christina, Jen, Joe, Heather, Matt, Shannon, Emma and Jeff; a nephew, Alan Sutton and his wife Gayle; a niece, Carol Ash; five brothers-in-law, Ralph Pitts and his wife Joyce, Laval Pitts and his wife Joan, Glenn Pitts and his wife Roberta, Ted Pitts and his wife Sylvia and Gary Pitts and his wife Christina; a sister-in-law, Donna Bingham; numerous nieces, nephews; and her beloved pets.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 3, at noon with Bishop Martin Hillman of the Orem Hillcrest 4th Ward officiating. Interment was at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery in Utah. The Sundberg Olpin Mortuary handled arrangements.

STOUGH, Joyce Kay

April 30, 1937 - Nov. 30, 2004

Joyce Kay Stough of Longmont died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Longmont. She was 67.

She was born April 30, 1937, in Boulder to Manford Otis and Fern Eva (Hogan) Miller.

She married William Stough Sr. on Oct. 11, 1956, in Lafayette.

Mrs. Stough was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Carol May Stubbs.

She is survived by her husband of Steelville, Mo.; two sons, W. Glenn Stough and Matt J. Stough, both of Longmont; a daughter, Shelley Layne Merrill of Phoenix; three sisters, Norma Barden of Sonoma Beach, Calif., Phyllis Samansky of Tucson, Ariz., and Marlene Dewey of Northglenn; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joyce Stough Memorial Fund in care of Resthaven Funeral Home, 100 E. County Road 30, Fort Collins 80525.

TOCKO, Dorothy M.

Nov. 20, 1922 - Dec. 7, 2004

Dorothy M. Tocko of Longmont died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at her home in Longmont. She was 82.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1922, in Newport, Neb., to E. G. and Mabel (Dorsey) Fox.

She married Donald E. Tocko on Sept. 15, 1950, in Iowa.

She moved to Longmont in 1974 from Aurora.

Mrs. Tocko was a homemaker and a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church, Longmont. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, sewing, fishing, cooking and baking. She will be remembered as a great wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Glenn Fox; and a sister, Leonora Stahl.

Mrs. Tocko is survived by her husband of Longmont; a son, Joe Tocko and his wife Marnie of Mead; four brothers, Don Fox and his wife Ruth of Bassett, Neb., Clayton Fox of Newport, Floyd Fox and his wife Sharon of Newport and Jim Fox and his wife Patsey of Valentine, Neb.; two sisters, Thona Kurtz of Illinois and Shirley Lemmer and her husband Bob of Atkinson, Neb.; four grandchildren, Kassie, Nikki, Mathew and Jacob Tocko.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 2415 Lake Park Drive, Longmont with the Rev. Tom Beaman officiating. Cremation arrangements will be handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Free Church in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
