PETERSON, Ivan S.
Feb. 7, 1927 - Dec. 24, 2004
Ivan Stanley Peterson of Longmont died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at his home. He was 77.
He was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Lyman, S.D., to Lee and Elin (Anderson) Peterson.
He grew up in Kadoka, S.D., and entered the U.S. Army in 1945. He saw duty in Germany.
Mr. Peterson earned a degree in education at Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, S.D., and a masters from the University of Wyoming.
He married Beverly Hallett on Aug. 3, 1951, in Spearfish.
He worked at Sturgis High School in Sturgis, S.D., and later became an elementary school principal. He was the director of elementary education in North Platte, Neb.
In 1967, he came to Longmont and was director of elementary education for the St. Vrain Valley School District. He was principal at Niwot Elementary, Loma Linda Elementary and Main Street School before his retirement in 1991.
A member of Longs Peak United Methodist Church, Mr. Peterson was active as a choir director, committee member and officeholder. He was in Rotary for more than 40 years and was a member of the Longmont Rotary Club. He was a supporter, board member and chairman for Longmont Head Start.
Mr. Peterson enjoyed camping, hiking, photography and traveling. He coached Little League baseball, was a Civil War buff and assisted his son as his accountant. He will be remembered as a man devoted to his family and deeply loved by his grandchildren.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife of Longmont; two sons, William Peterson and his wife Susan, and Lee Peterson and his wife Karen; six grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick, Elizabeth, Mary, Laura and Eric; and a sister, Lois Blades and her husband Jim.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Longs Peak United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Creel officiating. A reception and time of fellowship will follow at the church. Cremation arrangements have been made with Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Longs Peak United Methodist Church, the Rotary International Foundation, or HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties can be sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
PLATT, Harold Martin
Oct. 19, 1921 - Dec. 23, 2004
Harold Martin Platt of Longmont died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell, Neb., of congestive heart failure. He was 83.
Mr. Platt was born Oct. 19, 1921, in rural Boulder County to Roy and Della (Gould) Platt.
His parents died while he was young. At 16, he moved to Goodland, Kan. He married Marie Luckert on Oct. 6, 1943, in Goodland, Kan.
During World War II, he worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. Following the war, Mr. Platt and his wife moved to Forestville, Calif., where he raised apples and grapes and worked for wineries and local dairy farms.
In 1963, the family moved to Waverly, where he started his own dairy farm. In 1965, they moved the operation to southwest Longmont in the Haystack Mountain area. They ran the dairy for 25 years; he retired in 1987.
Mr. Platt enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, watching the Denver Broncos, attending farm auctions and working with his milk cows. He was a member of the Western Dairymen Cooperative Inc. and Faith Baptist Church in Longmont.
He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers, Jim, Lee, Carl and Clifford Platt; and three sisters, Helen Iungerich, Hazel Bruning and Fern Platt.
Mr. Platt is survived by two sons, Harold Platt Jr. and his wife Cindy of Watertown, Wis., and David Platt and his wife Kristina of Torrington, Wyo.; two daughters, Nancy Platt of Boulder and Patricia Platt of Lafayette; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Cremation has been held. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, with interment at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th St., Boulder.

SAINSBURY, Marjorie
SAINSBURY, Marjorie, 84, of Boulder, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Boulder. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Private services will be held at a later date.
STROMAN, Thelma V. Thell
c, of Longmont, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 75 years old. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont. Joseph Stichka of Longmont died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at his home. He was 55.
Mr. Stichka was born March 7, 1949, to James Frank and Mary Ann (Lohmeier) Stichka in Mullen, Neb.
He is survived by his parents of Lakewood; two brothers, James Stichka and John Stichka, both of Colorado Springs; and a sister, Mary Ann Bennett of Lakewood.
Cremation was performed by Erhlinger Cremation Service of Longmont.
No services are planned.

Opal Trevarton, 85, of Longmont died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital of kidney failure.
She was born to Royal Victor and Bessie (Kellogg) Babcock on Dec. 20, 1919, in Longmont. Opal attended and graduated the eighth grade from the Potato Hill School on Foothills Highway near Lyons.
Opal married Oliver E. (Olie) Trevarton on March 3, 1937, at Golden, Colo.
She was a housewife and worked 12 years at the Longmont Lanes Bowling Alley childcare before retiring.
Opal was a great cook, loved to do crafts, often making all the familys birthday and Christmas gifts. She especially enjoyed making five or six different kinds of candies at Christmas. She liked to crochet and spent many hours making hanging dishtowels for family and friends and she loved tending to her flower gardens.
Opal and Olie loved to take drives in the mountains and often would pack a picnic lunch for their day trips.
She liked going to casinos in Black Hawk and Las Vegas and would spend many hours almost every afternoon playing Yahtzee with her sister Lucille.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olie on July 29, 1987; a brother, Roy Babock and his wife Dorthy; a sister, Agnes Dagle and her husband John; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Mary Trevarton, Harry and Helen Trevarton, William and Ann Trevarton, Paul and Mary Trevarton, Elmer Trevarton, Jesse Trevarton, Philip Trevarton, Myra and Cliff Hawkins, Eva Manwell and Margaret Trowbridge; nieces and nephews, Gerry Trevarton, Sidney Dagle, Judy Smith, Edward Trevarton, Mardell Leinsted, Larry Trevarton, Ronald Babcock, Buster Babcock and Rodney Babcock.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Marcott and husband Gary of Longmont; a son, Dave Trevarton and wife Ann of Greeley; a sister, Lucille Smith and husband Bill of Longmont; three grandchildren, Keith Trevarton of Greeley, Kathy Fagler and husband Phil of Loveland and Shelley Rogers and husband Eric of Longmont; six great-grandchildren, Kimberly Newby and husband Michael of Berthoud, Sherry Hubbard and husband Leo of Carr, Zachary and Lauren Trevarton of Greeley, Alex Trevarton of Loveland and Blake Rogers of Longmont; four great-great-grandchildren, Amber and Nathan Newby and Taylor and T.J. Hubbard; three step-grandchildren, Melissa Carter and husband Gail of Santa Clara, Calif., Jenny Tarantino and husband Chris of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Andrew Marcott of Louisville; a step-great-grandchild, Ryan Carter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janie and Short Boydstun, Lillian Trevarton, Ellen Trevarton, Anna Mae Trevarton and Allen Manwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel; the family will be present to greet friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment at Foothills Gardens of Memory. WILLIAMSON, Edna B.
June 24, 1912 - Dec. 24, 2004
Edna Belle Williamson of Longmont died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Life Care Center in Longmont. She was 92.
She was born in Platte City, Mo., on June 24, 1912, to Homer and Elva (Hathaway) Burden. She married Arthur Richard Williamson on July 4, 1937, in Newkirk, Okla.
They made their home in Lyons, Kan., where a daughter, Carolyn, and a son, Kenneth, were born. They then moved to Salina, Kan., where another daughter, Katie, was born.
In 1947, the family moved to Abilene, Kan., where Mr. Williamson owned a car dealership and Mrs. Williamson worked as a bookkeeper at a lumber yard and later in a drug store.
She was member of the First Christian Church in Abilene and then a member of Life Bridge Christian Church in Longmont. Mrs. Williamson was a member of Eastern Star for many years.
She lived in Abilene for 37 years before moving in 1991 to Longmont to be close to her son's family.
Mrs. Williamson was preceded in death by her husband and a stepson, AR Williamson Jr.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Yenzer of Rolla, Mo., and Katie Stockwell of Topeka, Kan.; a son, Kenneth Williamson of Longmont; a sister, Edith Pearce; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Abilene Cemetery, next to her husband and stepson, at a later date. Howe Mortuary was entrusted with cremation arrangements.
BENGTSSON, Dawn Janel
Feb. 4, 1974 - Dec. 29, 2004
Dawn Janel Bengtsson of Longmont died at her home on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004. She was 30.
She was born on Feb. 4, 1974, in Longmont to Olle and Shirley Bengtsson.
She graduated from the American School in Chicago in 1992. Directly after graduation she went on to study to become a certified nursing assistant. She will be remembered for having a special combination of skills when it came to working with people in pain and with those who felt alone. Ms. Bengtsson worked for several years as a CNA at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living. She had to stop working due to her own health problems.
She endured more than 11 years of illness and surgeries. Fortunately her parents were able to care for her during this time. There, she enjoyed playing with her niece and nephews and spending time in the yard watching and feeding the birds and an occasional squirrel. She continued doing what she could to help others in the household and even across the world.
She made a donation each month to a child in Honduras. Along with the little money she could send, she would write to him about her life and would occasionally send pictures.
Ms. Bengtsson was briefly married and was preceded in death by her set of fraternal twins, Aaron and Arianna, who were simply born too soon.
She is survived by her parents of Longmont; a sister, Holly Bengtsson-LeMaster and her son Tristan LeMaster of Denver; a sister, Lynda Davis and her husband Frank of California; a twin sister, Deanna Bookless and her husband Tony of Milliken and their two children, Brady and Jewell Anne; an aunt and uncle and several cousins in Sweden; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Iowa.
A small service took place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel on Jan. 1, 2005. Cremation has also been handled by Ahlberg Funeral services. A memorial for Ms. Bengtsson will be planned this coming spring.
BORING, Suzanne Mary Long Hall
Jan. 19, 1944 - Dec. 27, 2004
Suzanne Boring joined God in heaven on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004. Suzanne confronted her extra-ovarian cancer with great faith in the Lord throughout.
Suzanne was born to Leonard and Lucille Long on Jan. 19, 1944, in Pasadena, Calif. She enjoyed close family relationships growing up in Pasadena but found true joy spending summers on her maternal grandparents homestead farm near Dalton, Neb.
Suzanne graduated from Pasadena High School in 1961 and completed training to become a nurse in 1963. In 1964, she married high school classmate Donald Hall, from whom she was later divorced. They had two sons, Randy Hall and Matthew Hall.
The family moved in 1974 to a small farm near Longmont, where Suzanne committed herself to raising her sons with Christian values and an appreciation for the land. Throughout her 15 years in Longmont, she drew great joy from the simplicity and spiritual richness provided by country life and a view of the mountains.
Suzanne went back to school and graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1986 with a bachelors of science in nursing. As an industrial nurse, Suzanne worked in Colorado, New Jersey and finally Arizona, where she settled in 1991 and eventually started her own case-management business. Her work ethic and compassion was demonstrated by her commitment to her cases, even in the final weeks of her life.
It was in Phoenix that Suzanne met David Boring, to whom she was married in 1995. Suzanne and David maintained a Christ-centered home and developed a wealth of close friends through their church and Bible study groups. They stayed active with travel, a gourmet club and season tickets to Arizona Diamondbacks baseball. They also had a mountain home in Prescott, Ariz., which gave Suzanne the soil and climate she needed to grow a beautiful garden.
Suzanne impacted many lives through her quiet testimony in God. She was well loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Suzanne is survived by her husband, David Boring of Phoenix; son Randy Hall of Mammoth Lakes, Calif.; son, daughter-in-law and grandson Matthew Hall, Elizabeth Connolly and Nathan Hall of Portland, Ore.; her mother, Lucille Long; and two brothers, Rey Long and Charles Long of Arcadia, Calif.

BROWN, Barbara Nelson
July 3, 1923 - Jan. 8, 2005
Barbara A. Nelson Brown of Longmont died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital in Boulder. She was 81.
She was born in Boulder on July 3, 1923, to Walter K. and Gretchen (Gimple) Nelson.
She married M. Alan Brown on March 8, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio.
Mrs. Brown had lived in the Longmont/Gunbarrel area since her move from St. Anthony, Minn., in 1985.
Mrs. Brown graduated from Boulder High School in 1941. She attended the University of Colorado, Teachers College and Columbia University, finally earning her bachelors degree in education from Teachers College and Columbia University in 1948.
Mrs. Brown taught at Casey Junior High School in Boulder and Elmont Junior High School in Elmont, Long Island, N.Y.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Boulder and a member and past president of Chapter H of the PEO Sisterhood.
She enjoyed classical music, opera and ballet.
She is survived by her husband of Longmont; two sons, Clayton Brown of Kirkwood, Mo., and Tyler Brown of Mundelein, Ill.; two daughters, Lauren Egelhoff of Piasa, Ill., and Valerie Brown of Madison, Wis.; two sisters, Patricia Warner of Sheridan, Wyo., and Lois Kellogg of Seattle; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the First Congregational Church, 1128 Pine St. in Boulder. The Rev. Martie McMane will officiate. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church. Private graveside services were held at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.
