CASEY, Clara

CASEY, Clara, 81, of Longmont passed away Oct. 20, 2006, at Longmont United Hospital from a head injury received in a fall in her home. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1221 17th Ave., with the Rev. Michael Traudt officiating. Interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elevator Fund at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Anthony Peter Coraggio

Oct. 18, 1931 - Oct. 17, 2006

Anthony Peter Coraggio passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Anthony was born on Oct. 18, 1931, in Bloomfield, N.J.

In 1957, Anthony and his wife, Patricia, moved to Brick, N.J., where they raised their 10 children. After his retirement from Sears in 1988, Anthony and Patricia moved to Dacono.

Along with his family, Anthony loved having fun. His love of life and sense of humor were abundant to all who knew him.

He was a creative painter, woodworker and an avid storyteller. He had a gentle spirit and a warm soul that was obvious to all.

Anthony was a member of the Knights of Columbus; he loved to travel and seek out new adventures.

He will be greatly missed: Go in peace, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.

Survivors are his loving wife, Patricia, of 54 years; his 10 children, Bill, Jack, Greg, Tom, Karen, Jeff, Ken, Eileen, Patti and Tony; 25 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 19, at Peterson Family Funeral Home in Fort Lupton. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 20, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Frederick, with a rosary said at 1 p.m. and services at 2 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be sent in care of Peterson Family Funeral Home, 806 Denver Ave., Fort Lupton 80621.

GIES, Dorothy

Jan. 13, 1926 - Oct. 19, 2006

Dorothy GIES of Longmont died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 80.

She was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Ulysses, Neb., to Cyril and Pauline (Chloupek) Chermak.

The family moved to Boulder in 1938. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1944.

On Aug. 27, 1950, she married Herman Gies in Boulder.

The couple made their home in Longmont, where Mrs. Gies was a homemaker. She later worked for Gould Inc. and Sherwood Enterprises.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and pets, gardening and playing bingo. She was a Denver Broncos fan.

Mrs. Gies was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Bohumel Chermak; and a sister, Viola Galbraith.

She is survived by three sons, Mike Gies and his wife Wantanee of Longmont, Alan Gies of Montana, and Mark Gies and his wife Sally of Loomis, Colo.; a daughter, Barb Borton and her husband Don of Longmont; seven grandchildren, Jessica Foster, Aaron Foster and Becca Foster of Longmont, Brian Gies of Virginia, Brenda Gies of Nevada, and Bradley Gies and Lauren Gies of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Faith Community Church in Longmont, with the Rev. Dan Hansen officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder. Memorial contributions can be made to Faith Community Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

GRAHAM, Perry Allen

April 18, 1924 - Oct. 13, 2006

Perry Allen GRAHAM of Platteville, formerly of Longmont, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at his home. He was 82.

He was born April 18, 1924, in Thorp, Wis., to Frank and Mae (Kuntz) Graham.

During the Great Depression, Mr. Graham worked in the Dakotas.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea and retired as a first sergeant in 1964.

Mr. Graham moved to Longmont from Arizona in 1972 and then moved to Platteville in 1992.

He was a chef at Boulder Country Club for many years and was also involved in starting the Double Tree Restaurant, where he served as head chef.

He loved to fish.

Mr. Graham is survived by a son, Dennis Graham of Fullerton, Calif.; two grandchildren, James and Benjamin Graham; and a great-grandchild, Emry Ann Graham.

No services will be held. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Helen Joan Irons

March 1, 1925 - Sept. 23, 2006

Helen Joan Irons of Longmont died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties. She was 81.

She was born March 1, 1925, to Willard and Nell Heffley Blough in Johnstown, Pa.

She married Robert L. Irons on July 9, 1944, in Johnstown.

Mrs. Irons was a homemaker. She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church in Johnstown.

She came to Longmont in 2002.

Mrs. Irons enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and visiting her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, James Blough and Paul Blough.

Mrs. Irons is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Hogan and her husband James of Longmont; two sons, Bruce Irons and his wife Suzanne of East Berlin, Pa., and David Irons of Parkton, Md.; a brother, Roy Blough; seven grandchildren, Brian and Stacey Hogan, Lynn Irons, Bruce Irons Jr., Michael Irons and Adam and Aaron Witt; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Hogan and Levi Harris.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Johnstown at Belmont United Methodist Church. Interment took place at Richland Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Friends are invited to a memory gathering from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Callahan House in Longmont.

Josephine ‘Jo’ LeMay

July 26, 1927 — Oct. 14, 2006

Josephine ‘Jo’ LeMay died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties. She was 79.

Mrs. LeMay was born July 26, 1927, in Pampa, Texas, to Ova and W.V. McPherson.

She married John Charles “J.C.” LeMay on June 12, 1948, and then lived in Dallas. She worked for a vending company and was in sales. She enjoyed fishing, working on her yard and trips to Colorado to visit her family.

Mrs. LeMay was a member of Brandon Avenue Methodist Church in Dallas.

She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother and a caring friend who led a happy life full of laughter and joy.

Mrs. LeMay was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Bill McPherson and Eugene McPherson; and two sisters, Eva Eckroat and Vera Gassaway.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandy LeMay Ross and her husband Fred of Niwot; three grandsons, Christopher, Zachary and Travis John “T.J.” LeMay Ross of Niwot; a sister, Mary Morrow of Athens, Texas; a brother, J.W. McPherson of Grapevine, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, 6000 S.R.L. Thornton, Dallas, TX 75232. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Weaver Cemetery in Terrell, Texas.

MAKINGS, Neyla Jo

Oct. 31, 1926 - Oct. 17, 2006

Neyla Jo MAKINGS of Longmont died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Life Care Center. She was 79.

She was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Atwood, Kan., to Joseph and Leola (Bosler) Morgan.

Mrs. Makings graduated from Atwood High School in 1944 and received a teaching certificate from Emporia Teacher's College.

She married Clifford O. Makings on Nov. 22, 1946, in Atwood. She moved to Boulder in 1955 and to Longmont in 1959.

Mrs. Makings was a homemaker and mother. She also sang at weddings and local events. She later worked at a care facility and at Longmont United Hospital in food nutrition services for more than 20 years until retiring in 1993.

She was a member of LifeBridge Christian Church. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed reading, music, dancing, watching football and baseball, and outings to Black Hawk.

Mrs. Makings is survived by two sons, David Makings and his wife Kathy of Kimberly, Idaho, and Dean Makings and his wife Tari of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Lorilee Edson and her husband Jeff of Longmont; a sister, Neva Edwards and her husband Cliff of Hays, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Amanda Carroll, Isaac, Nellie, Drew and Christi Makings, and Ryan, Brad and Kyle Edson; three great-grandchildren, Jason, Colby and Sway Carroll; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; two brothers, Cadette and Laverne Morgan; and a grandson, Jason Makings.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at LifeBridge Christian Church with Rick Rusaw officiating. Interment will follow the service at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Sherri Davis Nelson

Jan. 21, 1953 - Oct. 13, 2006

Sherri Davis Nelson of Missouri died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, in Kirksville, Mo., from pneumonia. She was 53.

She was born on Jan. 21, 1953.

Ms. Nelson was preceded in death by her father, Billy Davis; her mother, Reva Verle McGhghy; two brothers, Charles N. Davis and Ricky L. Davis; two sisters, Glenda Davis and Leslie Gail Osborn; and a niece, Anginette Jane Barajas.

She is survived by a son, Bryan Scott Eggers; five grandchildren of Missouri; two sisters, Dixie Conn of Longmont and Deanna Davis of Alaska; two brothers, Billy W. Davis of Nebraska and Randy Ray Davis of Arizona; four nieces, Mandi Davis Cole of Longmont, Tisha Barajas of Longmont, Lane Osborn of Longmont and Kody Callison of Longmont; and many other family and friends.

A private ceremony will be held.

Ms. Nelson's body was willed to science.

PETERSON, Steven Donald

Aug. 11, 1945 - Oct. 14, 2006

Steven Donald PETERSON of Longmont died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at his home. He was 61.

Mr. Peterson was born Aug. 11, 1945, in Alexandria, Minn., to Julius Edmund and Verona (Streu) Peterson.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria in 1963.

Mr. Peterson served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Susan Ann Horoza in 1968 in Boulder. They later divorced. In 2001, he married Corbin Dowling in Pinewood Springs. They also divorced.

Mr. Peterson moved to Denver in the late 1960s and to Longmont in 1972.

He received his dental technician degree while in the U.S. Air Force. He owned and operated Longmont Dental Lab.

He was a member of the St. Vrain Youth Soccer Association from 1986 to 2001, serving as president for four years. He was a handyman who enjoyed hiking, camping, Jeeping, skiing, snowshoeing and playing bridge.

Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by a son, Devon Peterson of Thornton; a daughter, Taya Kevwitch and her husband Rob of Chandler, Ariz.; his former wives, Susan Peterson of Longmont and Corbin Dowling of New Zealand; a sister, Deb Van Omen of Longmont; a grandchild, Lincoln Kevwitch; and a nephew, Matthew Van Omen of Ridgefield, Wash.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Judson of First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Longmont Humane Society and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

SAUNDERS, Sylvan B.

June 4, 1920 - Oct. 15, 2006

Sylvan B.SAUNDERS of Longmont died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Alterra Sterling House in Longmont. He was 86.

Mr. Saunders was born June 4, 1920, in Leibenthall, Kan., to Peter and Solene (Herman) Saunders.

The family moved to Colorado in the mid 1930s and lived in Longmont and several cities in the surrounding area.

Mr. Saunders enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and became a decorated veteran of the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Upon his return, he worked for Gibson Tractor Co. in Longmont; he was a welder by trade and worked in Denver for a time before working for the U.S. Department of Energy. He spent 22 years at Rocky Flats before his retirement in 1983.

Mr. Saunders was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2601.

He will be remembered as a skilled woodworker and hobbyist and for his love of polka dancing.

Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by a brother, Omer Saunders, and two sisters, Leona Gore and Florentine Christopher.

He is survived by three brothers, Eugene Saunders and his wife Betty of Longmont, Elmer Saunders and his wife Ruth of Yuba City, Calif., and Justin Saunders and his wife Colleen of Longmont; four sisters, Stella Cross of Loveland, Cora Gerstner and her husband Jake of Loveland, Ruth Gutherie of Loveland and Ruby Johnson and her husband Harold of Longmont; 20 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

There will be a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Hernan Florez officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 32. Private inurnment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont.

WATTERS, Zachary Hull

March 8, 1981 - Oct. 19, 2006

Zachary HullWATTERS of Longmont died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at his home. He was 25.

He was born March 8, 1981, in Hartford, Conn. to F. Benjamin and Mary (Hull) Watters.

He spent his first 17 years in Connecticut, moving to Colorado in 1998. He had lived in Longmont since 2004.

Mr. Watters was a student at Front Range Community College.

He was a writer and journalist, an avid coin collector and a guitar player. He loved the outdoors, including backpacking and climbing.

He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Dr. Crawford Hull.

Mr. Watters is survived by his mother of Longmont; his father of Cheshire, Conn.; a brother, Noah Watters of San Francisco; two sisters, Emily Watters of Cheshire, Conn., and Jessica Watters of Longmont; two grandmothers, Cornelia Hull of Portland, Conn., and Helen Bennett of Bloomfield, Conn.; a grandfather, Dr. Frank Watters of Newington, Conn.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the OUR Center in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
