Robert “Bob” Edward Nissle, Jr.
Bob Nissle of Bailey, Colo., died Jan. 24, 2003 at Saint Anthony
Central Hospital in Denver.
Born Oct. 1, 1958 in Passaic, N.J. he worked in sales, and for the
past four years worked for Inglenook Energy Center in Conifer,
Colo. He was a fan of baseball and hockey, and a member of Elk
Creek Community Church.
On Sept. 12, 1993 he married Dee Moeblus in Wayne, N.J., and
moved to Colorado that same year.
A memorial service was held Jan. 29 at Conference Baptist
Church in Evergreen.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kristina and Katie; his
parents, Robert Sr. and Julia Nissle; and a sister, Susan Hughes.
Memorials may be sent to the Children’s Hospital Foundation,
1245 E. Colfax Ave., Suite 400, Denver, CO 80218.

Dean W. Day
Dean W. Day left this world for a better place on Wednesday,
Feb. 12, 2003. Many people in the community knew Dean as a friendly
and honest man who loved life and that is how his family will
always remember him.
Dean was born Sept. 27, 1923 and spent his younger days in
Hebron, Neb. He served in the United States Air Force, 384th
Bombardment Group stationed in Grafton Underwood, England
where he flew 32 missions in a B-17 bomber. Dean became a
member of the Caterpillar Club by saving his life with an
emergency parachute jump.
After returning from World War II, Dean married his sweetheart,
Wini Ordway, on Sept. 15, 1944, and they moved to Colorado.
He spent his last 51 years in the same house in Bailey loving each
and every day in this quiet mountain town. Dean held a special
place in his heart for his hometown of Hebron, but the mountains
of Bailey were home and this is where he was happiest. He
enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, riding his bike and just taking
walks around town.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Marie Day;
son, Michael Scott; and granddaughter, Toni Barber. He is
survived by three siblings; his wife, Wini; three children: Terry
(Bob Barber), Drue Ann (Gordon Hatch) and Cory (Ruth); five
grandchildren: Tiffany, Rob, Brandon, Brian and Daniel; two
great-grandchildren Michael and Austin, and our little Ally.
Dean’s family is honoring his requests of cremation and no
services. Due to his love of children, the family asks that any
donation be made in Dean’s name to the Children’s Hospital
Foundation, 1245 East Colfax Avenue, Suite 400, Denver, CO
80218.

Gretchen Ford
Gretchen Ford, 91, Lake George resident, former nurse and
former member of Kit Carson Riding Club, passed away Feb. 21,
2003, at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 1992;
sisters Jean Gillespie and Florence Hall. She is survived by a son,
Dick; and a daughter, Sheila Allard; grandson, Steve Allard;
granddaughters, Stephanie Smith, Kellie and Ginger Ford, and
Jenny Allard; nine great grandchildren; three great, great
grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Marshall and Margaret
Manning; a brother, Fred Summers; several nieces and nephews,
and many friends.
Services were held Feb. 26 with Rev. Warren Hile officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Silver
Key Senior Services, Lake George Fire Department or a charity
of your choice.

Arturo Roberto Galvez
Arturo Roberto “Bob” Galvez passed away on June 4, 2003. He was
born on Dec. 27, 1933, in Antonito, Colo. to Luis Galvez and
Maria Martinez of New Mexico. Bob had three older sisters,
Mary Louise, Inez and Carla. He is survived by his sister, Carla
Bailey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
After his father’s death, Bob relocated to Denver and graduated
from Cathedral High School in 1952. Following his graduation,
Bob entered the U.S. Air Force and served until 1956. His Air
Force training was in crypto-communication, and he was
assigned to a combat area during the Korean conflict. After he
was discharged from the Air Force, Bob attended the University
of Denver and Regis College. He worked as an accounting
auditor for the Hilton Hotel in Denver.
Bob purchased his cabin in the Bailey area in December, 1967.
He left the corporate world to pursue a simple life in the
mountains. Bob commuted to Denver on a regular basis to care
for his mother, Mary, until she passed away in 1993.
Bob was known by many people in the mountain community for
his generosity. He helped people with the smallest of chores, and
he was devoted to his two dogs, Bear and Thor, who now need a
loving home.
Bob’s life was celebrated at services at St. Mary’s of the Rockies
Catholic church on June 10.

Edward J. Schmidt
Memorial services for Edward J. Schmidt, age 66, of Jefferson
will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2003. Services will be at Olinger
Hampden Funeral Home, 8600 East Hampden in Denver at 1
p.m. Schmidt died June 7 at St. Anthony Central Hospital.
Edward was active in the Jefferson Community, having served as
a board member of the Jefferson-Como Fire Protection District.
Together with his wife Ellie, he was also active in the Jefferson
Community Association, Stagestop Homeowners Association and
Park County Cemetery Board.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be given to the
Jefferson Community Church, P. O. Box 105, Jefferson, CO
80456.

Lynn Wadleigh
Lynn Wadleigh, a resident of Palisade, died at her home on June
8, 2003. She is survived by her husband, John of Palisade; sons, Joe of
Conifer, and Ken of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters, Linda
Brinkhoff of Montrose, and Sharon Hogue of Strasburg; sister,
Jane Van Hoye of Denver; and 12 grandchildren. A memorial
sevice will be held at a later date.

Ann Snell Barker
Ann Snell Barker of Bailey, Colo. passed away at the age of 69
on June 27, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents George and
Esther Snell. She is survived by her husband, Robert Barker of
Bailey; her sons, Michael Barker of Aurora and Christopher
Barker of Bountiful, Utah; her sister, Dona Jacobson of
Longmont; and her brother, Robert Snell of McHenry, Ill.
Ann was born is Austin, Minn. on Jan. 3, 1934. She married
Robert Barker on July 21, 1956, in Rochester, Minn. She spent
her days taking care of her children and volunteering at various
libraries, American Red Cross and most recently the Evergreen
Christian Outreach.
Memorial services were held at the Episcopal Church of the
Transfiguration on July 12. Reverend Catherine Tran headed the
service. Friends may send condolences and best wishes to P.O.

Earl Eugene Howey
Earl Eugene (Gene) Howey of Jefferson County passed away at
the age of 76 on Aug. 10, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Jean;
daughter, Cindy Mefford (Brent) of Lakewood; son Barry Howey
(Julie) of Valparaiso, Ind.; granddaughters, Teal, Teann and
Brenna Mefford and Andrea Howey; brothers, Norman of Cañon
City, and Robert of Arapahoe, Neb.; sisters, Margie Bratzler of
Pueblo West, and Lavonne Musick of Grants, Neb. He was
preceded in death by his parents and sister, Annabel Mattei.
Gene was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Wiggins, Colo. He moved to
Fairplay with his family when he was seven years old where he
attended and graduated from Fairplay High School. He served
two years in the U.S. Navy.
On June 12, 1949, Gene married the former Jean Head in
Fairplay. Together they owned and operated the Jefferson Store
for 32 years. He also served as U.S. Postmaster in Jefferson for
27 years.
Memorial services were held Aug. 14 at the Aspen Mortuary
Chapel. Burial was at the Como Cemetery. Memorial donations
in his name may be made to Jefferson Community Civic
Association (JCCA), P.O. Box 166, Jefferson, CO 80456.
