Josephine E. Pratt
Josephine E. Pratt, age 77 of Florence, died on June 2, 2004 at her
home. She was born March 19, 1927, in Oxnard, Calif. to
Joseph and Dominica Serrano. She grew up in Oxnard and
attended school at Oxnard Union High School. On Nov. 17,
1951, she married Jackie L. Pratt in Denver. They moved
back to California and started a family and in 1980 moved to
Hartsel and owned their own business, South Park
Mercantile. She was preceded in death by her husband,
parents and sister, Victoria Serrano.
She enjoyed walking, her flowers, crocheting and feeding
the birds. She won numerous awards for her crocheted
items at the Fremont County Fair. She attended New Hope
Fellowship in Florence.
She is survived by five children, Marsha (Jimmie) Atencio,
Marilyn (Earl) Nall, Anthony (Patti) Pratt, Carolyn (Bob)
Likens, Sue Hamner; 16 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren;
sisters Carmelia Samora, Florence Hofeker,
Juanita Prindle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the organ fund
at New Hope Fellowship, Manna House, Orchard Foundation
or the charity of choice.
Cremation was handled by Imperial Funeral Home of Pueblo.
Barbara Ayers
Barbara Ayers was born to Francis and Elizabeth Pepper
Jan. 19, 1947, in Philadelphia, Penn. She graduated from
Lake Mills (Wisconsin) High School 1965. She and Thomas
W. Ayers married in 1967, and she gave birth to Nathaniel
James on Dec. 25, 1967. Barbara attended Beloit College,
University of Wisconsin, graduating from California State
University in May, 1980.
Some of her school achievements were: National Honor
Society, Ford Foundation scholar, class officer, president of
Spanish Club, first chair clarinet and state award winner,
editor of her high school yearbook and many other clubs
and organizations she participated in, usually in a
leadership or ranking role.
Barbara spent most of her professional career working with
Tom, and later with Nathan, in their advertising agency.
She died on July 5, 2004 at Shands Hospital, Gainesville, Fla.,
after complications from lung transplant surgery
She is survived by husband Tom, son Nathan, brothers
Francis and Gary, and sister, Nancy, all of whom miss her
dearly.
Leeodis Dillon
Leeodis Dillon, age 74, died on July 11, 2004 near his
home at Usk, Washington.
Lee was born to Marion Joshua Dillon and Lula Francis
Accord Dillon on March 11, 1930, between Sparks and
Chandler, Okla. His family were sharecropping farmers from
Arkansas who settled near Chandler. Lee spent his childhood
picking cotton and working with his family. When he was 14
years old, Lee took an old horse and — with no money —
went to Colorado.
When Lee was 17, he was hired on the old Sam Hartsel
Ranch, one of the most historic spreads in Colorado. Lee
didn’t wrangle the show stock but did the rest of the ranch
work. While there he broke 375 head of horse on his own.
Lee loved to tell the stories about the ranch. In one of them
he talked about how ranch hands would rope wild cattle in
the highlands, tie them hard and fast to a mule and bring
them down to the valley bottom. He also caught a herd of
wild horses in the 3-Mile Peak area on foot and considered
that a great personal achievement.
Pro-rodeo became a favorite sport. Lee supported and
participated for over 30 years, earning him his Pro Rodeo
Gold Card. Lee rode bulls and saddle broncs.
In the later years, he lived in the basin in Washington doing
farrier work, ranching, feedlot work and helping to manage
the Pilot Wheel Ranch.
Lee is survived by his fiancée Victoria Riste Dillon, daughters
Tessa and JoAnne; sons Billie Lee, Doug, Bobbie, Terry, Tim,
Russell and Royce; brothers Gervis and Doy; and sister
Vestal Barrington.
A memorial service will be at the Mormon Church in Priest
River, Idaho on July 24. Lee will be buried in the Newport
Cemetery until his daughter turns 18 and then his family will
spread his ashes back in Colorado near 3-Mile Peak.
Richard Kingery
Long-time Bailey resident Richard Kingery died Saturday, Aug. 28,
2004, at Hospice of St. John — Aspen Unit in Lakewood. He was 74.
A memorial service was held Sept. 1 at Platte Canyon Community
Church.
Mr. Kingery was born July 16, 1930, in Oshkosh, Neb.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
In 1956, he married Gayle Elizabeth Fried in Fairplay.
He became the owner/operator of the more than 50-year-old
family business, Bell Oil Company, from 1953-1992.
Another family business, Bailey Propane Company, is now
operated by his sons.
He was a life member of VFW Post 8661 and a member of
the Platte Canyon Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years.
He was also an avid gun and coil collector and hunter.
Survivors include his wife Gayle; sons Scott (Jaime) and
Shawn (Wendy), all of Bailey; daughter Susan (Lorenzo)
Villarreal of Pine; brother Edward (Barbara) Kingery of
Boulder; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Michelle and
Abigayle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Pearl Durham
Elizabeth Pearl Durham of Eureka, Kan., died at her
residence on Aug. 23, 2004, at the age of 70.
She was born in Vallejo, Calif., on Oct. 25, 1933. She was
the daughter of William and Pearl Meredith (Searcy)
Brown. She was raised in Vallejo and attended school
there. After her schooling, she started her own
landscaping business, “Betty’s Landscaping.” Betty lived in
the California Napa Valley before moving to Eureka in
2002 to be close to her daughter.
In 1950, she united in marriage to Larry McFall in
Calistoga, Calif. This marriage ended in a divorce, and she
later married Lewis L. Durham.
Betty was a member of the First Church of God of Eureka,
the Native Daughters of the Golden West and the Civil Air
Patrol.
She is survived by her three sons, Lawrence McFall and
Timothy McFall of Bailey, Colo. and Richard Davis of Cobb
Mountain, Calif.; four daughters, Mary Ann McFall of
southern California, Lori Liberini of Modesto, Calif., Laura
Watts of Gridley, Kan. and Lizanne Wells of Lower Lake,
Calif; nine grand children; and one sister, Irma. She was
preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one
sister.
A memorial service was be held on Aug. 28, 2004, at Koup
Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Don Stice of
the First Church of God officiating.
Jeannie Neville
Jeannie Neville passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004 after
a courageous battle with cancer.
Jeannie was born in Denver on Feb. 27, 1946. In 1983 she
married Robert (Bob) Neville and after both retired from Public
Service opened Bailey Depot Feed & Supply in Bailey.
Family members include husband Bob; daughter Angela and
husband Paul Stetzel of Weatherford, Tx.; son Steve Tharp
of Denver; step-son Rob and wife Carrie Neville, children
Grant, Riley and Delaney of Denver; step-daughter Darcey
and husband Jeff Lynge and son Brad of Denver.

Joe Richard Lindsey
Joe Richard Lindsey “Dick”, a 10-year Bailey resident, died
Sept. 28, 2004, in Conifer. He was 76. There was
cremation.
Mr. Lindsey was born July 11, 1928, in Herford, Texas. He
served both in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army
from 1947 to 1953. He was a service manager for 25
years for North American Philips Company. In 1958, he
married Joanne Louise McCarthy in Raton, NM.
He is survived by his wife; children Kathleen (Bill), Janice
(Chuck), Tracie (Harry), John (Patti) and David (Tonia);
nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A celebration of his life will be held at the family home
from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 16. Memorials may be sent to the
