Bruce Forrest Ferrin
A 28-year Bailey resident, Bruce Forrest Ferrin, went to be with the
Lord Feb. 9, 2005, after his battle with multiple myeloma. He was
66.
Bruce was born Sept. 20, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minn. and grew up in
the Lake Minnetonka area. In high school, Bruce was in the Marine
Reserves. Later, he served his country in the U.S. Army and was
stationed in Korea. After graduation from Minnetonka High
School, he attended the University of Minnesota and Drake
University.
He married Judy Gwen Russell in 1961 in Minnetonka.
After pursuing a number of different business interests, he
founded the family business, Allison Medical, a medical
supply company, named after his daughter.
He served as a deacon while attending Platte Canyon
Community Church and in recent years had attended
Foothills Bible Church. Bruce was an avid outdoorsman
and passed that on to his sons and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; sons Lance and his wife
Carolyn, Ross and his wife Karla and Justin and wife
Dawn, all of Morrison, and Mitch of New York; brothers
Greg and wife Kathy and Mike and wife Trish, all of
Minnesota; and stepsister Linda (Nick) Orndoroff of
Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and his
daughter Allison.
A memorial service was held Feb. 12 at Foothills Bible
Church in Littleton.
Memorials may be sent in memory of Bruce Ferrin to
Platte Canyon Community Church, 4954 CR 64, Bailey, CO
80421 or Foothills Bible Church, 6100 S. Devinney Way.

Mary Lynn Ireland
Mary Lynn Ireland of Pine, Colo. passed away Feb. 10 in
Bailey. She was 47. A private family service was held.
Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland,
Ore.
Mary was born Oct. 8, 1957, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She
moved to Colorado in 1997. She cleaned homes and was a
waitress at the Buck Snort Saloon. She enjoyed puzzles
and table games.
She is survived by a daughter Rebecca of Pine Junction;
sons Shawn of Germany and Duane of Florida; mother
Helen Arrington of Florida; brothers Mike Arrington and
John Arrington, both of Florida; sisters Fran Arrington of
Oregon and Dorothy Little of Florida; and husband Ralph
of Florida. There are two grandchildren, Stephanie and
Nathaniel.

Toivo H. Keto
Longtime Bailey resident Toivo H. Keto passed away on
March 6 at the age of 90. He was born on May 18, 1914.
An avid fisherman and hunter, he was previously active in
the Bailey Mountain Lions Club, Silverset and the Finlandia
Foundation. He is survived by his wife of 68 years,
Mildred; son Lee Keto and daughter-in-law Sandi of Baja,
Calif; and daughter Luana Smart and son-in-law Colin of
Keystone and Bailey. He has seven grandsons: Eric, Kevin,
and Robert Keto; James, John, and Jason Cook; and
Matthew Smart, He also had seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 12 at Valley
Lutheran Church in Denver at 2 p.m.

Debra Garner
Debra Garner of Bailey passed away Monday, Feb. 28. She
is survived by her husband Dan Garner of Bailey and her
parents MJ and Mary Taylor of Aurora, Colo. She was 43
years old.
She loved all animals, her flowers, snowfall, the summer
sun and all her friends in Colorado. She enjoyed old black
and white movies and the Denver Broncos. She has left a
void too big to measure in the hearts of all those who
knew and loved her. Her family would like to thank
everyone for their support and prayers.
A memorial and gathering of all her friends will be
announced at a later date. A memorial fund has been set
up in her name at Peak National Bank, 26679 Pleasant
Park Rd., Conifer, CO 80433.

Spencer Hugh “Bill” Griggs
Born March 22, 1934, Spencer Griggs, a 30-year resident
of Park County, passed away March 10, 2005. He was
born in San Diego, Calif., having four brothers and three
sisters.
He served in the Army in his early 20s. Even though he
served after World War II, he had the privilege of being
involved in the Eisenhower Campaign because he was an
MP in occupied Germany. Spencer became a San Diego
Fire Department fireman in his late 20s.
After becoming a resident of Park County, he worked 20
years with the Road & Bridge Department, retiring due to
illness in 2000. He was a Harris Park and Platte Canyon
Fire Department volunteer fireman for 17 years, receiving
the Chief’s Awards in 1996 for his contribution to the fund
raising Bingo program in Harris Park during the summer
months. The Fire Chief at the time was Rich Harmon.
He served many of his 30 years preparing barbeque meats
for the fund raising dinners in Harris Park. He served a
short time on the homeowners association board and was
a member until his death due to receiving a life-time
membership because of his community contribution.
He served on the Harris Park Water & Sanitation Board for
over 25 years, many of those years as the president. In
November, 1994, he became a member of the Evergreen
Baptist Church and served as a trustee in that church until
his death. He also began a food collection program that
became a 10-year food ministry, continuing on in his
absence.
In August, 2004, Spencer, along with Howard and Mildred
Betts, was inducted into the Harris Park Hall of Fame for
30 years of community contributions.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Theresa
Diaz; brother, Bernard Griggs. Spencer was preceded in
death by wife, Betty Mae Griggs.

Michelle Ann Batts
In loving memory of our daughter, Michelle Ann Batts.
Born in Rushden Northamptonshire, England, U.K. on July 30,
1980. Michelle suddenly left us in Hartsel, Colo. on March 31,
2005.
She was our little Angel, and we know that she is now with
our Lord. We will see her soon.
Michelle is survived by her parents, Christopher and Ann
Batts; and her sister, Louise Batts.
A public memorial to celebrate Michelle’s life will be held at
the Hartsel Fire Protection District, Station #1, 86 Valley
Ave., Hartsel, Colo. on Saturday, April 23, 2005, at 2 p.m.

Jeraldine Hazel King
Jeraldine Hazel King, age 68, of Fruita passed away April
18, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.
Jeri was born in Fairplay, Colo. on Feb. 10, 1937. She
married Warren Harley King in Raton, New Mexico on
March 7, 1958. They owned and operated the Conoco Bulk
plant for many years. She also worked at the Fairplay
Hospital and South Park schools. In 1981, she moved to
Fruita to be closer to her mother and step-father. She
worked for Family Health West and began her career with
the Mesa County School District 51 in food services at
Wingate and Broadway schools, and retired in November,
2004, after 18 years.
She was an excellent seamstress, proficient in all types of
crafts, especially crocheting.
Survived by her daughter, Sheri Case; granddaughters,
Ashley, Nicole and Jessica of Mosyrock, Wash., and one
great grand daughter; stepfather, Charles Burgin of
Fruita; brothers, Richard (Pat) Hansen of Montrose,
Charles (Lisa) Hansen of Aurora, Larry (Ida) Hansen of
Salida; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hansen of Monument; and
Kay Pocock of Colorado Springs, and numerous friends
and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Harley, son Albert, mother Dixie Burgin, father Charles
Hansen and brother Ron Hansen.
Services were held at Martin Mortuary Chapel on
Saturday, April 23, 2005, with Pastor John Foreman
officiating with reception following services.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society, 2754 Compass Dr., Grand
Junction, CO 81506.

Joseph Benjamin Vigil
Services to be held for Vigil
Our friend and neighbor, Joseph Benjamin Vigil, born June
4, 1942, passed away on April 5, 2005. A funeral service
will be held for Ben on Friday, April 8, 2005, at St. Mary’s
of the Rockies Church beginning at 11 a.m. The church is
located at the top of Crow Hill by the Park County Library
in Bailey.
Interment will be at the Horn Cemetery after conclusion of
services. A celebration of Ben’s life will follow at the
church.

Ralph E. Wilcox
Ralph E. Wilcox passed away March 30, 2005. Ralph was
born in Fairplay, Colo. March 11, 1918, and lived there
until 1994, when he and his wife, Bonnie, moved to
Apache Wells in Mesa, Ariz. He served in the U.S. Army in
Europe during World War II. He is survived by his wife,
Bonnie. No formal services are planned.

Marie Newman
Marie Newman was born May 8, 1905, and passed away
April 16, 2005, in Paonia, Colo. Marie was a resident of
Como and Fairplay from 1930 through the late 1960s. She
is survived by her six children, daughters Dorothy, Helen,
Shirley, Jeanne and Rosie; son, Buster; 32 grandchildren;
64 great-grandchildren; and 37 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Paonia Cemetery on Thursday,
April 21.
