Carrie L. Havens
Carrie L. Havens, age 18 of Fairplay, Colo., passed away
on Friday, Aug. 12, 2005. Carrie was born Oct. 15, 1986
in Salida, Colo. to Terry Havens and Brenda Good. Carrie
was a member of the Delta Southern Baptist Church. She
enjoyed reading, mechanics, animals, hiking, fishing,
gardening and being outdoors.
Carrie was preceded in death by her brother, Anthony
Jason Havens. She is survived by her father, Terry Havens
of Fairplay and mother, Brenda Good; brother, Dale
Havens of Fairplay, sisters Karissa Havens of Fairplay,
Cassie Simpkins of Arkansas, Tonda Beatty of Delta, Colo.;
and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Viewing will occur on Friday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon
and 1-4 p.m. at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida.
Services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Lewis
and Glenn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the
Poncha Springs Cemetery.
Friends who desire may make a memorial contribution to
the family of Carrie L. Havens through Lewis and Glenn
Funeral Home, P.O. Box 925, Salida, CO 81201.

James W. Head
Colorado Springs resident James W. Head, age 84, died
Aug. 1, 2005, under the care of Pikes Peak Hospice and
Palliative Care. He was born in Denver on Sept. 25, 1920,
to Arch and Mamie (King) Head-Young. His formative
years were spent in Jefferson, Colo. where he graduated
from high school in 1937. Following high school, he joined
the U.S. Naval Academy, where he participated in the
inauguration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
In 1941, Jim moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for
several government agencies. It is here he met and
married Alice Ruth Tinsley on May 23, 1942. They
returned to Colorado where Jim enlisted in the Army Air
Corp, serving as an aerial gunnery instructor, flying in
many aircraft including the B-17, B-24 and B-29. After
discharge and enrolling at University of Colorado-Denver,
Jim joined the Colorado Air National Guard. In January,
1950, he received a direct commission as a Second
Lieutenant in the Guard and was activated as a result of
the outbreak of the Korean War. From 1967-68 he was
Chief of Operations of the NORAD Space Defense Center,
Cheyenne Mountain Complex. His final assignment was
also at NORAD when he retired in June, 1975, with the
permanent grade of Lt. Colonel.
Throughout his life Jim maintained a wonderful sense of
humor and had a gift for storytelling. He loved golf and
travel. It is his greatest hope there is a golf course in
heaven.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Sherry; son, James
W. Jr. (Helen) of Kentucky; daughter, Betsy Mundt (BG
Stephen USA) of Virginia; grandson, Jeffrey Fischer of
California; sister, Jean Howey of Lakewood; and many
cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death
by his first wife, Ruth, in 1998.
Jim was given a funeral with Air Force Honors at Ft. Logan
National Cemetery in Denver.

Georgina (Georgie) Eck
Georgina (Georgie) Eck, a longtime Bailey resident and coowner
of the Rustic Inn (now the Bailey Station), passed
away August 22, 2005. She is survived by her husband, Carl;
her children, Carli and Randy, their spouses, Phil and Karen,
and her granddaughter, Kelle.
She was a native Coloradoan who actively supported the
community, in numerous ways, through her personal committment
to the town and its people. She will be missed by everyone who
knew her.
The family is honoring her request to not have services. In
lieu of flowers, please donate to: Colorado Neurological
Institute for Stroke Research, in memory of Georgina Eck,
701 E. Hampden Ave., Suite 330, Englewood, CO 80113.

Pete Painter
Pete Painter passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at
Hospice of St. John. Pete was retired Air Force, having served
for 22 years.
He and Wanda moved to Bailey 30 years ago. He helped
organize the VFW Post 8661.
Pete was Commander, continuing on to become Dist. 8
Commander. In 1993, he was elected State Commander.
He was a very friendly guy, always smiling and whistling.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda, six children, 21
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Sept. 16.
Those wishing to make a contribution in Pete’s memory
may do so to the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the ALS
Association, 1201 East Colfax Ave., Suite 202, Denver, CO
80218.

Raymond William Mayer
Raymond William Mayer passed away on Sunday September 25,
2005, in Bailey. Ray was 56 years old at the time of his
death. Ray is survived by his son Eric, daughter Christy and
grandchildren Lil’ Eric, Kyle, Shayla and Cassie.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at
Foothills Chapel, 1950 Ford Street, in Golden.
