Haskell V. Llewellyn, 92
Haskell V. Llewellyn, a former resident of Evergreen and Lakewood, died Sept. 25, 2003 in Fort Myers, Fla. after a brief illness. He is survived by two sons, Lynn G. Llewellyn of Rockville, Md., and Rhys G. Llewellyn of Evergreen, Colo.; grandsons, Glyn W. Llewellyn of Aurora, Kevyn L. Llewellyn of Lakewood, and Stevyn R. Llewellyn of Denver; and two sisters, Gertrude L. Howard and Juanita Cook, both of Corpus Christi, Texas.
"Lew" had an extensive career with the U.S. government, beginning in 1930, when he went to work for the Census Bureau when the bureau was still struggling to tabulate data from the 1910 Census.
Born in Holland, Ark., his work took him to Washington, D.C., Des Moines, Milwaukee, and then back again to the D.C. area, where he purchased a home in Falls Church, Va. and remained there with his wife, Mae, for 46 years. They then moved to Lakewood in 1995, and later to Evergreen.
He received a masters degree in accounting from Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, D.C. His government service spanned 41 years and included other agencies such as the Soil Conservation Service, the Office of Price Administration, World Health Organization, and lastly, as a budget officer for the General Services Administration. He would joke that his only "claim to fame" was when he "bummed a cigarette from (Senator) Everett Dirksen" during a Senate Appropriations Hearing, and the time he had to tell retired President Eisenhower to limit his long-distance telephone calls because it was costing the government too much money.
His real passion was tennis, which he played into his mid-80s, despite having had a quadruple heart bypass a few years before. He also officiated at many professional tennis matches around the D.C. area, as well as at Forest Hills, N.Y. and Wimbledon, England.
He and his wife also traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad, occasionally as tour leaders. On one such trip, he gathered up all the passports only to learn that one hapless gentleman had left his on the dresser top at home. When it was rushed to the airport, the gentlemans wife snatched it up, scowled at her spouse and said emphatically that she would take care of it, thank you. Lew never mentioned if the couple survived the trip.
Lew will be cremated and his remains inurned at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver.

Theodore Alexander Butewicz (Butts), 77
Theodore Alexander Butewicz, formerly Butts, died at his home Sept. 29, 2003 after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 29, 1926 in Bloomfield, N.J., and moved here in 1956 with his family. He received a degree in architecture from Clemson University. He co-owned Laramey and Butts Architects. They designed many commercial buildings in the local and metro areas. He later had Architectural Office of Evergreen.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was often seen running around the Evergreen High School track. He also hiked, camped and golfed.
In 1982 he married Corri Roberts in Evergreen. His first wife, Connie, died in 1981.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, in The Barn (which he designed) at Evergreen Memorial Park. A private burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Karen (Jon) Beck, Dorne (Paula) Butts, Carla (Peter) Schuck, Dale (Dan) Carroll, and Kevin Butts; two-step children, Julie Shea and Chris Roberts; and a sister, Eugenia (Reggie) Carter. There are 11 grandchildren.

Irene Park, 79
Irene Park, Evergreen resident since 1972, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at St. Anthony Central Hospital after a short illness.
Irene was born Feb. 10, 1924 in Brainard, Minn. She met her husband, Bill, when she was 17 years old and still in high school. They were married in Kansas City, Mo. on April 16, 1944.
Irene is survived by her husband, Bill, and their three children, Carolyn Simmons (Grant) of Centennial, Colo.; Jan Nelson (Larry) of Evergreen; and their son Larry Park of California.
Irene loved playing bridge and golf, being with her family and helping at church. She also loved her grandchildren dearly. She has four granddaughters, Amy Grimm (Ken), Stephanie Simmons, Heather Lindhorst (Ed) and Martine Nelson; and three grandsons, Mark Nelson, Todd Nelson (Cori) and Matt Nelson. The other wonderful joys in Irenes life were her great-grandchildren, twins Madison and Jacob Grimm, and Macaley and Meghan Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Evergreen Lutheran Church, 5980 Highway 73, Evergreen, CO 80439, where Irene was a longtime member. A memorial service celebrating Irenes life will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11:30 a.m. At 2 p.m., her remains will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Dale McGlasson, 70
Dale McGlasson, a former resident of Evergreen and Idaho Springs, died at age 70 in Yuma, Ariz., after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease.
Dale is survived by his wife, Sally, of Yuma; sons John McGlasson, Grand Junction, Michael McGlasson, Yuma, and Thomas Kent McGlasson, Wichita, Kan.; daughters Anne Dufer, Olympia, Wash., Mary Bowen, Grand Junction, and Sarah Reilly, San Diego, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also has one living brother, James of Kansas City, Mo.; and two sisters, Vivian of Cherryville, Mo. and Georgia of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Dale was preceded in death by his father, Oscar McGlasson, mother, Ruth Potter and brothers Oscar, Daniel, Bruce and Anson. Dale was born in Cherryville, Mo. on Dec. 7, 1932. He graduated from Cherryville High where he was a star basketball player. After graduation in 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in occupied Japan and Korea. Dale and Sally started their family while he was on active duty. After his discharge, Dale worked for the movie studios in Hollywood, attended Los Angeles City College, and worked for Fisher Body in Van Nuys, Calif. He left California in 1959, moved to Kansas City, then to Colorado. Dale worked for Gates Rubber Company in Denver until his disability retirement in 1972. From 1964-66, Dale and his family resided in Evergreen, and were members of the Church of the Transfiguration (Episcopal). In 1965, a gun accident sent a bullet into his heart, which eventually forced the disability retirement seven years later.
Dale lived in Idaho Springs, Georgetown, Empire, and Grand Junction during the last 35 years. He moved to Yuma with Sally in 2000 to join the Emerald Springs Retirement Community. His son Michael is a border patrol agent in Yuma.
A service for Dale was held at the Emerald Springs Resort on Aug. 15, 2003. Reverend Paul Gambling of St. Pauls Episcopal Church presided over the services. Pastor Brady John Moss, Dales nephew, also delivered a sermon.
Dale requested cremation, and desired to have his ashes placed in the mountains of Colorado and the Huzzah River in Missouri.
J. Elizabeth Meeker
J. Elizabeth Meeker of Conifer died in Springfield, Penn. on Sept. 7, 2003. Elizabeth moved from Philadelphia to Conifer in January 1993. She had an accounting and computer consulting business with clients in Denver and the Evergreen/Conifer area. Her love of life, warm heart and happy nature will be missed by many.
Elizabeth is survived by her companion and friend, Charlie Lineberry of Bailey; mother, Lucy Camarote; sister, Gale Kaufmann; brother, Daniel Camarote; nephews, Jeffrey and Evan Kaufmann and Louis Camarote; niece, Rachel Camarote; and aunt, Mary Doluszycki.
Friends and clients are invited to attend her memorial service at St. Elizabeths Church in Buffalo Creek, near Pine, on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10:30 a.m.

Michael Lewandowski
(Jan. 17, 1975 - Nov. 13, 2003)
Born in Seattle, Wash., Michael Frederic Lewandowski lived most of his life in Evergreen, Colo. A 1993 graduate of Evergreen High School, he also attended Marshdale Elementary and Evergreen Junior High School. Michael never let his seven-year struggle with a brain tumor prevent him from striving to improve his life. He received a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1999 after two years at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.
An avid skier and outdoorsman, he continued to share his love for nature with inner city youth groups as a naturalist at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and Trips for Kids in San Rafael, Calif. Recently, Michael served as the promotional coordinator for the University of Colorado Freestyle Ski Team while maintaining his perpetual enthusiasm for the Denver Broncos.
Most important, Michael will be remembered for his gentle, unassuming nature and the positive impact he had on family, friends and literally hundreds of young people. He is survived by his parents, Carol and Allan; his sister, Sara; his treasured dog, Molly; his grandmother, Lottie Talpis; his aunts, uncles and cousins: Debra, Joe, Jessica and Matthew Link; Trude, Mike, Megan and Jamie Lisagor; Peggy, Ted, Zoe and Lucy Cooper; and many cherished friends.
A graveside memorial service was held 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec, Denver.

John David Thompson, 65
John David Thompson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died peacefully in his home Friday morning, Nov. 14, 2003. He struggled for just a short time with kidney cancer.
John was born in West Virginia on May 24, 1938 and spent most of his young life in Johnstown, N.Y. After graduating from high school, he moved to Montville, Conn. where he began a long and satisfying career building submarines for Electric Boat Company, a subsidiary of General Dynamics.
He lived in Evergreen for 13 years and worked for Rocky Flats as a project manager. John was a dedicated worker, a kind-hearted person and a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Teri Lacey Thompson, of Evergreen. John had six children: Rhandi Laiti, Sherri Ligouri, Scott Thompson, Todd Thompson, and one grandchild, Andrew Laiti, all on the East Coast, and Kendra Thompson and Ryan Thompson of Evergreen. John also had a horse that he loved and cared for named Sully.
A celebration of Johns life will be held at Evergreen Lutheran Church, 5980 Highway 73 at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23. Irene May Fraser, 83
Irene May Fraser, of Evergreen, Colo., died Nov. 14, 2003 at Saint Anthony Central Hospital in Denver, Colo. There was cremation. Scattering will take place in Hawaii.
Ms. Fraser was born May 1, 1920 in Manchester, England. She worked in banking in Kailua Kona until she moved to California in 1979. There she worked as an accounting clerk for Texaco in Bakersfield. She moved to Evergreen in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen S. Caron of Kailua Kona, Hawaii and Yvonne Duggan of Kittredge, Colo. There are two grandsons, Gilbert and Paul Caron, and three great-grandchildren.
Nadia Shelpuk, 92
Nadia Shelpuk went to be with her Lord on Nov. 15, 2003. She was secure in the knowledge that she would join her husband, parents, and three siblings who preceded her to the blessings of their eternal home.
Nadia was born on Nov. 24, 1910 to John and Anisia Lysak in the hamlet of Dubyni, Ukraine. The family emigrated to Canada in 1929 and she made her home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was there that she met and married her husband, Nikifor Shelpuk in 1934. They lived and raised their family in homes in Canada, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Nikifor and Nadia were blessed with a family that included three sons. She was a dedicated mother and wife supporting her husband in pastoral ministries in all of their home locations. Both she and Rev. Shelpuk were actively involved in leadership roles of the ministry of the Russian-Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Union (RUEBU).
Nadia moved to Wheat Ridge, Colo. shortly after the death of her husband in 1982. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge.
Nadia is survived by sons Benjamin (Katherine) of Evergreen, I. Andrew (Frances) of Princeton, N.J. and Christopher (Sybil) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters Alexandra Lysak, Nina Hrychuk, Vera Shakotko and Ruth Hayward, all of Canada.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22 at Conference Baptist Church, with interment at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Clara I. Wrigley, 82
Clara I. Wrigley, 82, formerly of Worland, Wyo., died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at the Life Care Center of Evergreen.
There was cremation and interment at a private memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Worland at a later date.
Clara Isabelle Garwood was born June 23, 1921 at Worland, Wyo. to William W. and Agnes (Carr) Garwood. She was raised and received her education there. She graduated from Worland High School. Her family attended the United Methodist Church in Worland.
She married Howard M. Pickett in 1939. She married Harvey B. Wrigley in 1946. During World War II, She worked as deputy county treasurer and at Farmers State Bank in Worland and later at the Federal Land Bank in Basin, Wyo. She later moved to Evergreen, Colo. and worked at the Evergreen State Bank, which is now U.S. Bank. She enjoyed the mountains, wildflowers and current events.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Glen Reid of Fort Collins, Colo.; her granddaughter, Laura (Mrs. Michael) Anderson of Larkspur, Colo., great-grandchildren, Micahel, Sarah and Mitch; her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. William and Reva Garwood of Casper, Wyo.; her sister Mrs. Ruth (the late Monte) Bassett of Cody, Wyo. and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husbands and her son, Robert L. Wrigley.

Bernard (Bernie) Merson, 60
Bernie Merson of Trumbull, Colo. died Sunday Oct. 26, 2003 after a courageous one-year battle with cancer.
Bernie was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on Aug. 12, 1943. He lived in Evergreen for most of the period between 1977 and 1992. He spent the last 11 years of his life in Trumbull. He owned and operated Mountain Cycle Works in Kittredge from 1977 to 1981. He owned Bernie Merson Construction at the time of his passing.
Bernie served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964. He is survived by his former wife, Rose Merson; his daughter, Jacki (Larry) Schneider of Aurora, Colo.; his son, Mark Merson of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Noah Merson and Conner Schneider; and many dear friends in the Evergreen and Trumbull area.
A memorial will be held at the Trumbull Fire House at noon on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Susan Fay Poe, 54
Susan Fay Poe of Pine, Colo. died March 23, 2004 at Littleton Adventist Hospital.
She was born Sept. 1, 1949 in Johnstown, Penn. and moved to Pine in 1998. She attended Loraine Community College in Loraine, Ohio. On May 2, 1992 she married Billy "BJ" Poe at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Her interests were in cooking, hiking and nature. She was a volunteer with Comfort Quilters, a park host for Jefferson County Open Space and an active member of the Volksmarching Association.
A funeral service and burial were held at Evergreen Memorial Park on Sunday, March 28.
Survivors include her husband; children, Lewis of Ohio, Bruce of South Carolina and Tiffany, serving in the U.S. Air Force; her dog Hunter; brother Alvin and wife Nancy Rummel of Ohio; mother-in-law Virginia Poe; and sisters-in-law Nancy and husband James Caress, and April and husband Rick Tischer, all of Florida. Ann Austin Clark, 76
Ann Austin Clark died at home on March 21, 2004 after a short illness. Ann was born on Sept. 22, 1927 in Archbald, Penn. After graduating from Scranton State School of Nursing, Ann worked at the Cornell Medical Center. She then entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a nurse, at which time she met and later married Lee T. (Budd) Clark on Jan. 8, 1953 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen, Colo., where they lived until her death.
Ann is survived by her husband, Lee; daughter Catherine; sons Michael and Patrick and their wives Patrice and Lisa; five grandchildren; a brother, F. J. Mcdonnell of Buffalo, N.Y.; and a sister, Carole Motsko of Thompson, Penn.
Ann had a love for bowling, playing bridge, the Broncos and cross country skiing. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, March 24 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen. Tyler Jason Rhodus, 7
Tyler Jason Rhodus died Wednesday, March 17, 2004. He was born Sept. 1, 1996 in Guam to Jason and Tonya Sanders Rhodus.
Tyler was autistic, "Our Little Angel," and so very loving. He loved jumping, swimming and looking at himself in the mirror. He loved "Tigger," but mostly Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Survivors include his parents, Jason and Tonya Rhodus of Littleton; brother Kyle Andrew; uncles Kenneth (Heather) Sanders III, Big Uncle Travis LaFon-Sawyer, of Evergreen; Grandpa Kenneth Sanders Jr. of Evergreen; Nana Yvonne LaFon of Evergreen; and Grandma Linda Gordon of Trenada, Colo. He was preceded in death by Grandpa Edward Rhodus of Evergreen.
There will be an outdoor celebration of his life memorial service on Friday, March 26, 11 a.m., at Evergreen Memorial Park, 26624 N. Turkey Creek Road in Evergreen.
A fund has been set up for his family to help with expenses called the Rhodus Family Fund at Evergreen National Bank, P.O. Box 2020, Evergreen, CO 80437.
Darin Heitman, 39
Darin Heitman died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, a victim of a massive avalanche on Mount Guyot west of Breckenridge, Colo.
Darin grew up in Evergreen and lived in Lakewood. He had worked at Safeway for over two decades, and was the produce and dairy manager at the Green Mountain store. He was an avid, experienced snowmobiler, loved to mountain bike, ride ATVs and snowboard. He was also an excellent builder who did remodeling work.
Services will be held Friday, March 19, 11 a.m., at Mile High Church of Religious Science, 9077 West Alameda Ave., Lakewood. There will be a reception following the service. His ashes will be scattered in the mountains per his wishes.

Dorothy G. Martin, 92
Dorothy G. Martin of Evergreen died in her sleep on March 5, 2004 at Life Care Center of Evergreen. She was 92 years old and born Dorothy Maxine Gabriel on June 27, 1911 in Rochester, N.Y. Dorothy attended high school in Binghamton, N.Y., and married Donald Albert Martin on Sept. 16, 1938 in Akron, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1965.
Dorothy loved books all of her life. She owned a bookstore in Pittsburgh, Penn. in her youth, and later owned one called Hermans, located in the Show Barn Plaza in Evergreen, from 1976 until 1979. Dorothy was a self-taught and lifelong learner and was a frequent patron of the Evergreen Public Library. Dorothy sold insurance for many years during her life and reluctantly retired from sales at age 80 from the Red Rocks Trading Post in Morrison.
Dorothy lived at Green Ridge Meadow Apartments in Evergreen for many years and lived at Elk Run Assisted Living in Evergreen from November 2002 until February 2004. She is survived by a son, Howard A. Martin of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and David Wiechelman of Ketchikan, Alaska; grandson Tate Braeckel of Denver, Colo.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Aaron and Jennifer Braeckel of Westminster, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Veda, London and Rowan Braeckel of Westminster; a niece, Judith Pattison of Tucson, Ariz.; a nephew, Steven Gabriel of Chesterfield, Mo. and their families; and by longtime friends, Roz Updegraff and Perry Timon of Evergreen, and their family.
A memorial service in Dorothys honor will be held on Sunday, April 18, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the garden at the Red Rocks Trading Post. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the theater at the Red Rocks Visitors Center in Morrison. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Mount Evans Hospice, 3721 Evergreen Parkway, Suite 9, Evergreen, CO 80439.
