Frank Gregory Gonzales

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Silverton for Frank Gregory Gonzales, who died Saturday, June 30, 2001, in Auke Bay, Ala. from natural causes. He was 45.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.

Mr. Gonzales was born Sept. 15, 1955, in Durango. He later moved to Silverton and worked as a miner. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by three daughters, Valarie Brock and Bryn Gonzales-Ellis of Durango and Theresa Wolt of Ridgecrest, Calif.; his mother, Antonia Gonzales of Silverton; a sister, Angeline Hughn of Denver; two brothers, Robert Gonzales of Denver and Steven Gonzales of Tempe, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Brock of Durango and Taylor Wolt of Ridgecrest, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

David Russell Glenn

David Russell Glenn of Glendale, Ariz., died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Arizona of cancer. He was 56.

Mr. Glenn was born on March 1, 1945, in Bellflower, Calif. He married Joyce Glenn on June 9, 1973, in Mangum, Okla.

Mr. Glenn graduated from Bayfield High School and Fort Lewis College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in managerial economics. He served in the U.S. Navy as a journalist.

Afterward, he worked for radio and television stations before returning to Durango in 1975. He helped run the Treasure Tunnel gift shop in Durango with his parents. In 1980, Mr. Glenn moved to Phoenix and started a family business, Fiesta Tiles.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three children, Michael, Amanda and Derek; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jennifer Shirley Webb

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Jennifer Shirley Webb, a Durango resident, who died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at her Durango home of Lou Gehrig’s disease. She was 46.

Mrs. Webb was born Nov. 26, 1954, in Santa Rosa, Calif.

She moved in 1975 to Colorado Springs, where she married James Webb on Feb. 9, 1981. She was employed at Otero Savings and Loan in Colorado Springs.

In 1987 her family relocated to Durango, where she worked as a probate clerk and later became the jury commissioner for La Plata County.

She was active in her sons’ sports activities and enjoyed participating in activities with St. Columba Catholic Church. She spent her free hours working with the flowers around her home.

She is survived by her husband, James Webb of Durango; two sons, Steven Webb and Randy Webb, both of Durango; mother and stepfather, Jane Newman and Ernest Newman of Colorado Springs; father, Riley Hagain of Hawaii; and a brother, Jeffrey Hagain of Colorado Springs.

David Russell Glenn

A memorial service will be held for David Russell Glenn, formerly of Durango, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Fort Lewis College chapel. Mike Darmore, Chaplain at Mercy Medical Center, will officiate.

Mr. Glenn died June 23, 2001, in Glendale, Ariz.

Reis Gunn Mary Silva

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 14826 Colorado Highway 172, in Ignacio, for Reis Gunn Mary Silva, a longtime Ignacio resident, who died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. She was 67.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Burial will occur at Ouray Memorial Cemetery in Ignacio.

Ms. Silva was born March 3, 1934, in Ignacio. She attended school in Ignacio and grew up in Towaoc with her grandparents. She was a Ute language teacher for Head Start in Ignacio.

She enjoyed teaching, the outdoors, beadwork and cooking.

She is survived by five sons, James Scott, Patrick Scott and Frederick Scott of Ignacio, David Wing of Towaoc and Howard Lee of Farmington; three daughters, Dorothy Wing, Victoria Valesco and Dorena Wing of Ignacio; 12 grandchildren, Miranda Wing Price, Corita Wing, Yvonne Valesco, Jeffery Valesco, Lynell Scott and Adelia Scott, all of Ignacio, Davis Wing of Durango, Teddy Wing of Towaoc, Alvin Jameson Lee of Minneapolis, Jamie Scott Begay and Marlene Scott of Cortez, and Tasha Ray Lee of Shiprock; and five great-grandchildren.

Nara Jo McCoy

Services will be held at a later date for Nara Jo McCoy, who died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. She was 62.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Mrs. McCoy was born Dec. 7, 1938, in Pagosa Springs.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Lee McCoy of La Boca; four sons, Randy McCoy of Arboles, Tim McCoy of Bayfield, Dave McCoy of Bayfield and Steve McCoy of La Boca; a daughter, Dixie Cook of La Boca; and 10 grandchildren.

Oscar Hose

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, for Oscar Hose, who died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 87.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

The Rev. Bruce Welander will officiate at the service. Burial will be at Foothills Garden of Memory in Longmont.

Mr. Hose was born on Sept. 28, 1913, in Brighton. He married Arleine Barnhart on March 21, 1937, in Brighton.

He was a farmer and owned a produce market in Brighton for more than 50 years. Mr. Hose belonged to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Longmont. He enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arleine.

He is survived by a son, Wayne Hose of Durango; a daughter, Janet Cavender of Longmont; two brothers, Emil Hose of Benson, Ariz., and Melvin Hose of Westminster; three sisters, Emma Denney of Mercedes, Texas, Lena Brethauer of Phoenix, and Hulda Brethauer of Phoenix; three grandchildren, Scott Hose of Durango, Lyn Couch of Sidney, Neb., and Kurt Hose of Thornton; and two great-grandchildren.

Barbara L. Cross

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at 1157 Colorado Highway 172 for Barbara L. Cross, who died Aug. 27, 2001, in Holly Hill, Fla. She was 58. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Ms. Cross was born Oct. 30, 1942, in Durango. She married Floyd Dennis Cross on July 3, 1963 in Durango.

Ms. Cross enjoyed crafts, fishing and camping. She liked the Denver Broncos and enjoyed her employment at City Market.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Cross of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Acacia Cross of Holly Hill, Fla.; a brother, Howard Rex of Arizona; a sister, Jane Staley, of Tepic, Mayarit, Mexico; two grandchildren, Erin and Serena Cross; and three nephews and seven nieces.

William M. Browne

A graveside service was held Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Maryland for William Malcolm Browne, a Durango resident for more than 30 years, who died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Solomon’s Nursing Center in Lexington Park, Md., of natural causes. He was 95.

The Rev. William McClean officiated at services.

Mr. Browne was born on April 22, 1906, in Toronto, Canada. He married Francis "Betty" Basim in June 1930. He was remarried to Gladys L. Heatwol in January 1964.

Mr. Browne graduated from George Washington College in 1929 and retired from Civil Service at Patuxent River in June 1964. He belonged to the Power Squadron and enjoyed making telescopes, studying astronomy and working in his machine shop at his home.

Mr. Browne was preceded in death by Francis "Betty" Basim, his first wife, in October 1962. He was preceded in death by Gladys L. Heatwol, his second wife, in 1993.

He is survived by four children, Lawrence Browne of Leesburg, Va., David Browne of Lexington Park, Md., Robin Browne of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kaye Riffle of Farmington, N.M.; two stepchildren, Wotan Heatwol of Socorro, N.M., and Janet Lewallen of Saint Charles, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great -grandchild.

Frank (Skip) Stepleton

A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Greenmount Cemetery for Frank "Skip" Stepleton, a Durango native, who died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, in Albuquerque of cancer. He was 61.

Mr. Stepleton was born Sept. 21, 1939, in Durango. He graduated from Durango High School in 1957. He married Sandra Gould, who graduated from the same high school class.

Mr. Stapleton attended Fort Lewis College and the University of Colorado and lived in Albuquerque for 40 years, where he worked as a builder. He enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra.

He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie of Albuquerque and Cynthia of Eagle Nest, N.M.; a son, John of Portland, Ore.; a mother, May Stepleton of Albuquerque; two sisters, Mary Brady of Portland, Ore., and Judy Goodnow of Albuquerque; and two brothers, Tom Stepleton of Louviers, Colo., and John Stepleton of Phoenix.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Hospice of Albuquerque or the American Cancer Society in Durango.
