Robert Leslie Macfarlane
November 13, 1928 - May 17, 2003
Robert L. Macfarlane died Saturday, May 17, 2003 in Delta, Colorado. He was 74.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 19th , from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., for family and friends, and funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th at 11:00 a.m.. Both services will be held at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Robert Leslie Macfarlane was born on November 13, 1928 in Chugwater, Wyoming to the late Charles Donald and Netha Alma (Milner) Macfarlane. He spent his childhood in Wyoming, Oregon and Colorado. He moved to Cedaredge, Colorado in 1945 and graduated from high school there in 1947.
Robert married Patricia Jean Peacock in 1956 in Tucson, Arizona. They settled in Phoenix, Arizona where they raised four children.
Mr. Macfarlane retired in 1986 as a Aerospace Test Cell Manager after 30 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Robert was a member of the Cedaredge and Delta Team Roping Clubs and the Cliff Garrett Memorial Rodeo Association. Among his many interests, he most enjoyed raising and training horses and team roping. However, his greatest love was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivor’s include his longtime companion, Janet Hollis of Delta; four sons, Rick of Alamogordo, NM, Rob and Kim, Don and Kimberly and Dan and Lea, all of Phoenix, AZ; six sisters, Dixie and Jack Loucks, Estelle “Hap” and Dave Mayberry, Jo and Virgil Decker, Janet Gage, Pat and Robert Sebert, and Jeannie Macfarlane and Dohn. Robert is further survived by twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Chuck Macfarlane.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory, where flowers may be sent or donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P. O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416..

Guadalupe Armendariz
December 12, 1909 - May 9, 2003
Delta - Longtime Delta area resident, Guadalupe Armendariz died on Friday, May 9, 2003, at her residence. She was 93 years old.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta with Father Mark Bettinger officiating. Burial will follow at Mesa View Cemetery, Delta, Colorado. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 13th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, recited by Elvida Salazar. Public visitation for family and friends will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Guadalupe Banuelos was born on December 12, 1909, to Pedro “Pete” and Bruna (Castanon) Banuelos in Zerez Zacatecas, Mexico. At the age of twelve, she moved with her family to the Delta area where she resided until her death.
On May 13, 1925, Guadalupe married David Armendariz in Delta. To this union ten children were born. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1982.
Guadalupe was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta. She belonged to Minister in Praise at St. Michael’s and Pelingrina of San Fernando Cathedral. She worked for many years at Skyland Foods in Delta. Some of her favorite interests included crocheting, flowers and family functions. She especially loved all of her grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
Those grateful to have been a part of Guadalupe’s life include five sons: Felipe Armendariz and his wife Julia of Oviedo, FL, Hilario Armendariz and his wife Comedina of Montrose,CO, Victor Armendariz and his wife Theresa of Absarokee, MT, Manuel Armendariz and his wife Barbara, Angelo Armendariz and his wife Manuelita all of Delta; four daughters: Minnie Abeyta and her husband Joe, Margie Abeyta and her husband Lupe, Erma Moralez and her husband Joe, and Virginia Valdez and her husband Frank all of the Delta area; one brother, Louis Banuelos of Delta; one sister, Alicia Banuelos of Delta; and a daughter - in - law, Margaret Armendariz of Delta. Additional survivors include 45 grandchildren, 84 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Pedro and Bruna, and her husband, David, she was also preceded in death by one son, Steve Armendariz; two grandsons, James Armendariz and Ricky Abeyta; and one great - great grandson; brothers: John, Lawerence, and Fidel; and two sisters: Mary and Petra.

Russell Brigden
February 4, 1919 - May 12, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Russell Charles Brigden of Cedaredge died of natural causes on May 12, 2003, at his residence. He was 84.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Cedaredge Cemetery, with Father Mark Bettinger officiating.
Mr. Brigden was born on Feb. 4, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Russell and Georgiana Brigden. He spent his childhood in Milwaukee, where he graduated from high school. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee.
He married Dorothy Keppen, who preceded him in death. He later married Dorothy L. Near on Oct. 21, 1972, in Louisville, KY. She survives.
Mr. Brigden served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. He then moved to Denver where he lived until moving to Cedaredge 25 years ago.
He was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church in Cedaredge and the Delta Elks Lodge #1235. He was an operations manager for AT&T, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed repairing and fixing things in his workshop.
Mr. Brigden is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Brigden of Cedaredge; two stepsons, Steven McQuillen of Cedaredge, and David T. McQuillen and wife Valerie of Tucson, AZ; a brother, Douglas Brigden of Bellevue, WA; a sister, Doris Cuff of Vallejo, CA; and five step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Keppen; and a daughter, Barbara, who died of cerebral palsy in her early 20's.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416 or to Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, on behalf of a step - granddaughter, Brandy McQuillen, 801 Roeder Rd., Suite 750, Silver Spring, MD 20910.

Charles E. Bear, Sr.
Sept. 17, 1915 - May 29, 2003
PAONIA - Lifetime North Fork area resident, Charles E. Bear, Sr., died Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Paonia Care and Rehab Center, at Paonia, Colorado. He was 87.
A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 3rd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints in Paonia. Bishop Brent Anderson will conduct the services. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, at the church. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss, Colorado with members of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807 and members of the U.M.W.A. #6417 performing graveside rites.
Charles E. Bear was born on September 17, 1915, in Bowie, Colorado to the late Anton Medved and Virginia (Marta) Bear. He spent his childhood in Bowie and Somerset, attending school in Bowie.
Charles married Margaret Wood on April 18, 1938 in Grand Junction, Colorado. She preceded him in death on November 21, 1962. He then married Lynne Holder Holvoet on October 22, 1963 in Grand Junction. She survives.
Mr. Bear retired in 1979 after 50 years in the coal mining business. He and his family owned and operated the Bear Coal Company in Somerset. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints in Paonia, the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807 and the U.M.W.A. # 6417. He was also a past member of the board of directors of the Paonia Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Paonia Cherry Days and a member of the Paonia Lions Club. Among his many interests he most enjoyed woodworking, fly fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
Survivor’s grateful to have shared in Charlie’s life include, his wife of nearly 40 years, Lynne Bear of Paonia; a son, Charles E. Bear, Jr. and wife Leslie of Buena Vista, CO; a daughter, Betty Henderson of Hotchkiss, CO; two step - sons: Jeffrey Holvoet of Crawford, CO and Daniel Holvoet and wife Marilyn of Soldotna, AK; a brother, Bill Bear, Sr. and wife Ellen of Grand Junction, CO; a sister, Edythe McFarland of Denver, CO; and a former daughter - in - law, Susan Bear of Fairbanks, AK. He is further survived by eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and two great - great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and first wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, James P. Bear.

Lawrence “Larry” Bodine
August 16, 1920 - May 25, 2003
Lawrence N. “Larry” Bodine died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at his residence in Cedaredge, Colorado. He was 82.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge, Colorado with Bruce Huvde officiating. Services will conclude at the Chapel.
Lawrence N. Bodine was born on August 16, 1920 in Tiger, Washington to the late Lawrence and Agnes Ruth (Baldery) Bodine. He spent his childhood in Anaheim, California, where he graduated from Anaheim Union High School in 1938. Lawrence lived in Newberry Springs, California for forty five years before moving to Cedaredge, Colorado in 1992.
Lawrence married Betty Thayer on October 16, 1943 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives.
Mr. Bodine was a life long farmer. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball, Especially the Dodger’s. He was a volunteer fireman for the Newberry Springs Fire Dept. in Newberry Springs, California.
Survivors grateful to have shared Lawrence’s life are his wife of nearly 60 years, Betty Bodine of Cedaredge; two sons, Danny Bodine and wife Lala of Cedaredge and Neil Bodine and wife Maureen of Newberry Springs, CA; one sister, Darlene Omera of Newberry Springs, CA; four grandchildren, Courtney and Joel Bodine of Cedaredge; Tara Racine and husband Lonni of Clifton, CO; Ryan Bodine of Newberry Springs, CA; two step grandchildren, Bridget Johnson and husband Eric and Sean Vizzo and wife Brandee, all of Barstow, CA. He is further survived by five great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Carton C. Meek
January 24, 1914 - May 31, 2003
CRAWFORD - Lifetime Crawford area resident, Carton C. Meek, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 89.
A funeral service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 4th at the Crawford Community United Methodist Church. Art Wolverton will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. A private family interment will take place at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford.
Carton C. Meek was born on January 24, 1914 in Paonia, Colorado to the late Jacob and Mildred (Stickel) Meek. He spent a portion of his childhood in Ohio, and then the family moved to Crawford where he attended school. He graduated from Paonia High School with the class of 1931. He continued his education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
On June 21, 1941, at Denver, Colorado, Carton was joined in marriage to Ruth Collins. She survives.
Carton was a lifetime rancher. He was the owner/operator of Meek Ranch Inc., Ltd. He served on the Hotchkiss Federal Credit Union Board for 50 years. He had been president of the Black Mesa Cattlemen’s Association for 27 years. Carton was also past president of the Crawford P.T.A., had served 7 years on the Delta County School Board and served several years on the Montrose Production Credit Association Board. In addition, he served as fire warden for 6 years for the Gunnison National Forest. In his free time, Carton enjoyed reading and baseball. However, his true passion was ranching.
Survivor’s include his wife of nearly 62 years, Ruth Meek, of Crawford; two sons: Don Meek of Crawford and Rodger Meek and his wife Linda of Sulpher Springs, TX; three daughters: Marilyn Wood and husband Robert of Crawford, CO, Sandra Holt and husband Sam of Grand Junction, CO and Cheryl Ridgway and husband Alan of Paonia, CO. He is further survived by eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Meek.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 576, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.

Betty L. Austin
June 12, 1922 - May 16, 2003
AUSTIN - Longtime Austin area resident, Betty L. Austin, died on Friday, May 16, 2003, at her residence. She was 80.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Cory Cemetery in Cory, Colorado.
Betty Loraine Williams was born on June 12, 1922, to Gilbert Gordon and Varra Delores (Doyle) Williams in Mesa, Colorado. She spent her childhood in Mesa and Grand Junction. Her family moved to the Austin area in 1927, where she attended the Eckert School, graduating in 1940.
On August 8, 1945, Betty married Uhlan C. Austin at the Little Church of Roses, Cardiff - By - The - Sea, California. They had enjoyed fifty - nine years of marriage together. They owned and operated the Eckert Creamery for many years and she was the secretary/bookkeeper for the business. She enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, working beside Uhlan on their ranch in Eckert. He survives.
Betty was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Eckert. She enjoyed crafts, embroidery work, knitting, crocheting, and raising farm animals.
Those grateful to have shared in Betty’s life include her husband, Uhlan Austin; two sons: Aaron Austin, and Arlin “Corky” Austin; one daughter, Varra Sue Myers and her husband Leland; one brother, James “Jim” Williams and his wife Markie; and a sister, Peggy McNeal, all of the family members live in the Austin area. She is further survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Chon C. Munoz
April 17, 1915 - May 30, 2003
AUSTIN - Lifelong Delta county resident, Chon C. Munoz, died on Friday, May 30, 2003, at his residence. He was 88.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Lawrence Goody will officiate. Private inurnment will take place at the Delta City Cemetery.
Chon Cordero Munoz was born on April 17, 1915, to Matthew Ignacio and Petra (Cordero) Munoz in Silao Guanajuato, Mexico. He grew up in Delta and attended school there.
Chon married Naomi Leon on September 1, 1943, in Montrose, Colorado. They would have celebrated sixty years together this year. She survives.
Mr. Munoz was a farmer and rancher for a good part of his life. He worked for the Delta County Road Maintenance District 2 from 1971 to 1987 and retired after fifteen years. He also served in the United States Army Infantry. Chon belonged to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cedaredge. He enjoyed gardening and dearly loved his family.
Those grateful to have shared in Chon’s life include his wife, Naomi of Austin; three sons, Daniel Munoz and his wife Donna of Denver, Stephen Munoz and his wife Karen of Austin, and David Munoz of Denver; a daughter, Yvette Boyd and her husband Gary of Delta. He is further survived by three brothers: Ben Munoz of Santa Ana, CA, John Munoz of Delta, Rasmo Munoz of Los Angeles, CA; four sisters: Virginia Munoz of Los Angeles, CA, Carmen Macias of Santa Ana, CA, Ruby Romero of Santa Ana, CA, and Rachel Ramierez of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Brad Boyd, Valerie Kortz, and Pam Emerson; two great grandchildren: Brendan Kortz and Makayla Kortz. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Antonia Castillo; and a brother, Manuel Munoz.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

John Suppes Jr.
May 6, 1928 - May 4, 2003
OLATHE - Lifetime Olathe resident, John Suppes, Jr., passed away at Delta County Memorial Hospital on May 4, 2003. He was 74.
A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 6th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Montrose, Colorado. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7th at the church. Monsignor, Daniel Huber will officiate. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado.
John Suppes, Jr. was born on May 6, 1928 to John Sr. and Katherine (Holzmeister) Suppes on Ash Mesa in Montrose County, Colorado. He spent all of his life in the Olathe and Montrose area with the exception of a couple of years that he spent in Blue Water, New Mexico.
John was united in marriage on April 17, 1956 with Anna Marie Rottinghaus in Montrose. She survives.
Mr. Suppes was a farmer. He enjoyed many activities such as hunting, fishing, gardening and ice fishing on Blue Mesa Reservoir. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Montrose, as well as the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both in Olathe.
Survivors grateful to have shared John’s life are his wife of 47 years, Anna Marie Suppes of Olathe; his mother, Katherine Suppes of Montrose; a son, John Jacob Suppes and his wife Cindy of Nebraska City, NE; a daughter, Mary Icenogle of Mesa, AZ; a brother Jerry Suppes and wife Donna of Montrose; two sisters: Josephine Wilson of Salem, Oregon and Katherine Linsacum and husband Jesse of Montrose; eight grandchildren; Heather Finn of Denver, Felicia Suppes, Sammie Joann Suppes and Jabrielle Suppes, all of Nebraska City, NE, Cara Icenogle of Mesa, AZ, Mark John Stratton and wife Marcie of Twenty - nine Palms, CA, Michael Stratton of Glendale, AZ and Johnathan Suppes of Nebraska City, NE. John is further survived by one great - grandson, Joseph Finn of Denver.
John was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Lawrence Suppes and a sister, Theresa Williams

Beryl Ella Takach
September 22, 1912 - April 26, 2003
DELTA - Delta resident Beryl Ella Takach, age 90, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Horizon Care Center in Eckert, CO.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2003 at the Delta City Cemetery with members of the family officiating.
Beryl Ella Allen was born in Lakeview OR, the daughter of Dr. Verl G. and Lois (Hay) Allen. She spent her childhood years in Lakeview, OR and in Sheridan, WY and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1930. In 1948, Beryl and her family moved from Sheridan to Delta, Colorado as Jim was transferred by Holly Sugar Corporation.
On July 2, 1931, she married James Takach, in Hardin, Montana. Jim passed away on September 2, 1986, at Colorow Care Center at Olathe, CO.
Prior to her retirement, Beryl had worked for Holly Sugar Corporation; Soil Conservation; Motor Way; J. C. Penny and Mr Roberts. She was a member of Delta United Methodist Church.
Beryl loved her family. She also enjoyed fishing, dancing and playing cards. She belonged to several Bridge Clubs in the Delta area.
Survivor’s include five daughters: Tempe Brown and her husband Dave of Mill Valley, CA; Jime Matoush and her husband Lyle of Ashland OR; Lois Wilson of Delta, CO; Judy Wise and her husband Earle of Delta, CO, Toni Berndt and her husband James of Everett WA; She is further survived by nine grandchildren; thirteen great - grandchildren; and one sister - in - law, Marian Allen of Colorado Springs, CO; and one stepbrother Jack Crites of Riverside, CA.
Beryl was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter Cheryl Rose Hiler; a brother Lynn Allen; a stepbrother Don Crites; and a grandson Patrick Gallagher.
There will be a celebration of Beryl’s life following the graveside service at the home of Judy and Earle Wise, 1562 H 50 Rd. Delta, CO.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
