Cecil N. Long
January 4, 1930 - March 9, 2004
PAONIA - Longtime Paonia resident, Cecil N. Long, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at his residence. He was 74.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 12, 2004 at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta, Colorado. Pastor Larry Johnson will officiate
Cecil N. Long was born on January 4, 1930, in Butler, Oklahoma, to the late Curtis and Nora (Beals) Long. He spent his childhood and attended school in Oklahoma.
On June 11, 1954, in Grand Junction, Colorado, Cecil married Ruth Kendall. She survives.
Cecil had been a resident of Paonia since 1939. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a former member of the Wilson Head American Legion Post No. 97 in Paonia. His interests included hunting and fishing.
Survivors grateful to have shared in Cecil’s life are his wife of forty - nine years, Ruth Long, of Paonia; two daughters and their husbands: Karen and Steve Garcia of Paonia and Barb and Jim Shelden of Cedaredge; three sons and their wives: Dave and Micki Long of Grand Junction, Mike and Robin long of Paonia and Robert and Shirley Long of Seminoe, OK; one sister, Lorene Dewees and her husband Loyd of Aztec, NM; two brothers: Donald Long and his wife Enid of Paonia, CO, and Glen Long of Carbondale, CO. He is further survived by nine grandchildren; eleven step - grandchildren; and six great - grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Cecil was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Mary C. Edwards
February 11, 1932 - March 6, 2004
DELTA - Mary Christine Edwards, of Delta, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at her residence. She was 72.
A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Pastor Henry Allen Jarvis will preside. Services will conclude at the chapel.
Mary Christine Jarvis was born February 11, 1932 in Tallulah, Louisiana to the late Vester and Adeline (Waters) Jarvis. She spent her childhood and attended school in Madera, California.
On October 4, 1950, in Modesto, California, Mary married Albert Edwards. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1987 in Grand Junction.
Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of the Faith Chapel in Delta. Mary had resided in Delta for the past six years, having lived in Delta County for twelve years. Her interests included crocheting, chimes, porcelain dolls, collecting grandchildren and her family.
Survivors include two daughters: Mary Fine of Grand Junction and Thelma Knox and husband Frank of Delta; three sons: Steven Edwards and wife Pamela of Modesto, CA, Rocky Edwards and wife Dawn of St. George, UT and Vernon Edwards and wife Trinity of Delta; six sisters: Minnibelle Jones of California, Marie Bishop and husband Harley of Delta, Darlene Brown and husband Rick of New Mexico, Elizabeth Alderdice and husband Howard of Oklahoma City, OK, Barbara Dorrington and husband Frank and Susie Myers and husband Auby all of Delta; two brothers: Henry Allen Jarvis and wife Barbara of Eckert, CO and Bobby Jarvis of Washington. Mary is further survived by 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Douglas and two brothers, Hershal and Jimmy.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
Arrangements are under the care of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Glata I. Wolter
September 4, 1917 - March 2, 2004
ECKERT - Delta resident, Glata I Wolter, died on Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert, Colorado. She was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Brandt Mortuary Chapel in Woodward, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Woodward Cemetery.
Glata Icel Beavers was born on September 4, 1917, to William Oscar and Anna Jane (Perdue) Beavers in Leon, Iowa. She spent her childhood in Leon and graduated from the high school there in 1935. Glata lived in Iowa for forty - five years and then moved to California where she spent thirty years of her life. She came to Delta eleven years ago.
Glata married Wayne Derwood Wolter on December 11, 1937, in Carrolton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1991, in Valencia, California.
Mrs. Wolter was a purchasing agent for Bermite, in California, a defense industry corporation, for eight years. She was a past member of the Eastern Stars and attended the Delta Presbyterian Church. Glata enjoyed traveling and reading.
Those grateful to have shared in Glata’s life include a son, Dennis Wolter and his wife Elsie of Cedaredge, CO; and a brother, Gayle Beavers of Des Moines, IA. She is further survived by two grandsons: Shawn, Brian; and a great grandson Jaxen Wolter; and a great granddaughter, Kennedy Wolter; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; three sisters and one brother.
Memorial contributions may be made in Glata’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.

Fern E. Atchison
July 12, 1918 - March 1, 2004
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Fern E. Atchison, passed into eternal life surrounded by her children and Hospice nurse, Dianne, on Monday, March 1, 2004, at her residence. She was 85.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10.00 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Olathe Cemetery, Olathe, Colorado. James Gall will officiate.
Fern E. Tripp was born on July 12, 1918, to Frank Lee and Mattie Grace (Pridy) Tripp in Olathe, Colorado. She spent her early childhood in Delta, Colorado and Southern California. She attended schools in both states.
Fern married Kenneth C. Atchison on August 1, 1935, in Paramount, California. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1991 in Delta, Colorado.
Fern, a homemaker, enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was a very gifted seamstress and made many afghans, dolls, slippers and doilies. She especially loved her grandchildren and doing fun things for them such as baking cookies and having them over for meals.
Those grateful to have shared in Fern’s life include a son, Kenneth Lonnie Atchison and his wife Mary Ellen “Midge” of Holyoke, MA; two daughters: Sandra “Sandy” Oeltjenbruns and her husband Bob of Delta, Colorado, and Coleen Hoyle and her husband Everett of Henderson, Nevada. She is further survived by nine grandchildren; sixteen great - grandchildren; six step - great - grandchildren; one nephew, Ed Noice of Huntington Beach, CA; one niece, Patti Herring of Delta, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mattie Tripp; her husband, Kenney; and a brother, Edgar Tripp.

Doyle L. Taylor
Aug. 6, 1926 – March 1, 2004
PAONIA - Longtime Paonia resident, Doyle L. Taylor, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 77.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, March 5, 2004, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at 10:00 am, at the Paonia United Methodist Church. Rev. John Nadasi will officiate. Burial will follow at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Paonia.
Doyle L. Taylor was born on Aug. 6, 1926, in Columbia, Utah, to James Edward and Clara V. (Wyman) Taylor. He spent his childhood in Columbia and Price, Utah, and graduated from Carbon High School in Price. He attended Carbon College in Price, and New College of Eastern Utah, studying in the electrical and mechanical machinist areas.
On June 23, 1951, Doyle married Goldie Lilly in Price, Utah. She survives. The Taylor family resided in Dragerton, Utah, from 1951 until 1963, at which time they moved to Paonia, Colorado.
Doyle served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1947. He was employed by U.S. Steel as a superintendent in maintenance, a job he held for forty three years. He belonged to the Wilson Head American Legion Post #97, the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807, and was a member of the Paonia United Methodist Church. Doyle enjoyed doing carpentry work, fishing, and traveling. He was a loving father and husband. He truly loved being with his children and grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in Doyle’s life include his wife of fifty - two years, Goldie Taylor of Paonia, CO; a son, Terry Taylor and his wife Michele of Bartlesville, OK; a daughter, Patty Golinski and her husband Tom of Duchesne, UT. He is further survived by six grandchildren: Sean R. Taylor of Paonia, CO, Jessica L. Taylor of Bartlesville, OK, Audrey L. Pace and her husband Chance of Grand Junction, CO, and Wesley T. Golinski of Van Couver, Canada; a niece, Carol Kennedy of Henefer, UT, and a nephew, Wayne Taylor of Ogden, UT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bernard F. Taylor.
Memorial contributions may be made in Doyle’s memory to the North Fork Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 127, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.

William J. Kendrick
April 27, 1954 - February 26, 2004
DELTA - Delta county resident, William “Billy” J. Kendrick, died on Thursday, February 26, 2004, following a one vehicle accident near Hotchkiss, Colorado. He was 49.
Memorial services for Billy will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Pastor Roger Odegard will officiate. Services will conclude at the Chapel.
William James Kendrick was born April 27, 2004. He was the first born, of three children, to William G. and Wanda M. (Owens) Kendrick in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Colorado Springs and graduated from Lewis Palmer High School in 1972.
Billy met Pamela A. McKenzie and married her in 1978. To this union a son, Jesse James Kendrick, was born in 1979, at Palmer Lake, Colorado. This marriage was later dissolved
Mr. Kendrick was a Master carpenter who was known for his woodworking skills in Avon, Vale, Carbondale, Palmer Lake, Monument, and numerous other communities throughout Colorado. Billy enjoyed fishing and hiking. He thoroughly loved people and was a servant to those he knew and loved.
Those grateful to have shared in Billy’s life include his parents, Bill and Wanda Kendrick of Delta, CO; his son, Jess Kendrick and wife Sarah of Oak Harbor, WA, where he is serving in the United States Navy; sisters: Pamela McGee and her husband Keith of Delta, CO, Dianne Mosteller and her husband Gene of West Liberty, OH; and a grandson, Derek Ryan Kendrick.
Billy was a beloved father, son, and sibling. To all of those who knew him, his carefree spirit and unforgettable personality will always be remembered. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jacquetta “Jackie” Curtis
January 2, 1911 - February 26, 2004
LAZEAR - Longtime North Fork resident, Jacquetta “Jackie” Curtis, died on Thursday, February 26, 2004. She was 93.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2004 at the Hotchkiss Community United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on March 5th at the church with Rev. Rick Clair officiating. A fellowship meal will be served in Stewart Hall after the services. Private interment services will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss, Colorado.
Jacquetta Sutton was born on January 2, 1911, to Sidnie and Ursula (Waugh) Sutton in Osborne, Kansas. She spent her childhood in Osborne and graduated from high school there in 1930.
Jackie married William O. Curtis on August 17, 1930 at Osborne KS. He died on May 11, 1997 at Hotchkiss CO. They moved to Colorado in 1937. The Curtis’ lived on Rogers Mesa for awhile and then built a home in Lazear, Colorado, where they have lived since that time.
Jackie, a homemaker, worked in the packing shed near her home and also worked at Skyland Food Corporation in Delta. She was an Avon Representative for many years.
Her many community activities included an active membership in the Hotchkiss Community United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also an officer in the United Methodist Women. Jackie was a member of the former Women’s Wednesday Club and a member of the Modern Woman’s Club of Rogers Mesa.
Those grateful to have shared in Jackie’s life include a daughter, Sidney Ellis of Lazear, CO; a daughter - in - law, Mary Lee Curtis of San Jose, CA; and a sister, Bessie Bierman of Kensington, KS. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, fifteen great - grandchildren, and four great - great - grandchildren.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, William O. Curtis; two sons: Stephen and Ryan Curtis; and a grandson, Thomas Ellis.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Assoc. of the Rockies, 1420 Ogden St., Denver CO 80218.

Jess A. Marshall, Sr.
June 4, 1924 - February 26, 2004
HOTCHKISS - Longtime Northfork resident, Jess A. Marshall, died on Thursday, February 26, 2004, in Phoenix, Arizona, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado, with Tom McLeod and the past exalted rulers officiating. Services will conclude at the Chapel. Private interment will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Jess Alden Marshall was born on June 4, 1924, to Jess A. and Mabel (Thieler) Marshall near Rexford, Kansas, Decatur County. He spent his childhood in Rexford and attended school there.
Jess married Mary Lou Gifford on October 10, 1944, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She survives.
Mr. Marshall was a truck driver and an aviator. He served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Pensacola. Jess belonged to the Hotchkiss Elk’s Lodge #1807 and served as secretary for eight and a half years. He was a member of Quite Birdman, a pilot’s club. He enjoyed his airplane and traveling. He especially loved being with his grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in Jess’s life include his wife of fifty - nine years, Mary Lou of Hotchkiss, CO; two sons: Blaine Marshall of Cedaredge, CO and Jess Alden Marshall and his wife Gene of Gilbert AZ; a brother, James Marshall of Washougal, WA; and a sister, Donna Waterman of Atwood, KS. He is further survived by four grandchildren: Jess Andrew Marshall, Stacy Lynn Marshall, Slyver Brown, and Shellen Sandburg; and four great - grandchildren: Kailey Marshall, Kelsey Marshall, Luke Marshall, and Alexis Sandburg.
Jess was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Catherine.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jess’s memory to the American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker Rd., Denver, CO 80231, in lieu of flowers.

Robert Bruce Blevins
April 7, 1919 - February 25, 2004
DELTA - Delta resident, Bruce Blevins, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. He was 84.
Services for Mr. Blevins will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at the Delta United Methodist Church. Pastor Vernon Dockter will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private burial will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction.
Robert Bruce Blevins was born on April 7, 1919, to Thomas George and Mary Ethel (Gadd) Blevins in Lay, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Lay, Maybell, and Craig, Colorado. He attended schools in Craig and also Provo, Utah.
Bruce joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II as a Signalman 1st Class. He married Barbara Pierce on June 16, 1946 in Craig, Colorado. She survives. They moved to Rangely, Colorado, where they lived for nine years. Other residences were Kimball, Nebraska for seven years, Glendive, Montana, for four years, Cody, Wyoming, for nine years, Riverton, Wyoming, for four years, and then to Delta, Colorado, in 1980, where he and his wife had resided until his death.
Mr. Blevins was a supervisor for an oil company. He attended the United Methodist Church in Delta. Bruce was a charter member of the Rangely Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the Cody, Wyoming, Elks Lodge, and a member of the Good Sam’s Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, and loved to hunt, fish, and go camping.
Those grateful to have shared in Bruce’s life include his wife, Barbara, of fifty - seven years; two sons: Dr. Rick Blevins and his wife Ginger of Great Falls, MT, and Dave Blevins and his wife Pilar of Moscow, Russia; two daughters: Cathie Monahan and her husband Tom of Aurora, CO, and Karen Bapst and her husband Bill of Grand Junction, CO; and one brother, Roy Blevins and his wife Juanita of Delta, CO. He is further survived by ten grandchildren: Mac Blevins, Sarah Bittner, Caitlin Blevins, Jennifer Blevins, Nic Blevins, Ryan Monahan, Mikaylee Monahan, Shelly Hurt, Shandee Talley and Taya Bapst; three great - grandsons: Wyatt and Spencer Hurt, and Brody Bittner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; and four brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bruce’s memory to the Delta United Methodist Church building fund, P.O. Box 427, Delta, CO 81416.
