David Huff
March 11, 1933 - December 11, 2003
PAONIA - Long time North Fork area resident, David Huff, died on Thursday, December 11, 2003, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital, Delta, Colorado. He was 70.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, December 15, 2003, at The Bible Center Church in Paonia, Colorado. Pastor Paul Millermon will officiate. Services will conclude at the church.
Paul David Huff was born on March 11, 1933, to Melvin R. and Erma (Travis) Huff in Denver, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Denver and graduated from South High School in 1951. He graduated from the Bible Institute in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1953.
David married Lynette Petrack on August 29, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Conifer, Colorado, for several years before moving to the Paonia area, where they have resided since 1972. She survives.
Mr. Huff was the owner/operator of the Bone Mesa Pump and Supply business which he started thirty years ago. He attended the Bible Center Church in Paonia. David’s interests included playing bluegrass music and he was an accomplished guitarist. He enjoyed working on old cars and loved his grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in David’s life include his wife Lynette Huff of Paonia, CO; a son, Jody Huff of Paonia, CO; three daughters: Marcy Frazier of Paonia, CO, Penny Tedford and her husband Myron of Goodland, KS, and Cindy Yuill and her husband Wes of Palmer, AK. He is further survived by fourteen grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Melvin Huff.
Memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to The Bible Center Church Awana Club, 1117 Third St., Paonia, CO 812428.

Maryanna Jones
January 25, 1930 - December 7, 2003
DELTA - Longtime Denver resident, Maryanna Jones, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. She was 73.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 11th at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. James Gall will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel.
Maryanna Thorpe was born on January 25, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Udale and Beulah (Christensen) Thorpe. She spent her childhood in Salt Lake City and graduated from high school there in 1947. She continued her education at the Golden Community College, Red Rocks Campus, where she received her Associates degree.
Maryanna moved to Delta in August of 2000 to be closer to her daughter. She previously resided in Denver for several years and had lived in Grand Junction, Colorado for a year and a half before coming to Delta.
Maryanna enjoyed painting. She especially loved to do water color and work with acrylic paints. She was a member of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Hentze and husband Joseph of Delta; two sons, Jace Jones of Denver and Gray Jones of Salt Lake City, UT; two grandchildren, Iris Hentze of Delta and Daniel Jones of Denver.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Gardner.
Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Assoc., 300 E. Hampden Ave., Suite 205, Englewood, CO 80110 - 2654.

Diana L. Husted
August 22, 1944 - December 5, 2003
PAONIA - Longtime Paonia resident, Diana Liegh Husted passed away Friday, December 5, 2003 at Delta County Memorial Hospital, at the age of 59.
A funeral service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 9th at the Friends Church in Paonia. Reverend Gaylen Kinser and James Gall will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colorado.
Diana Liegh Sieverson was born on August 22, 1944 in Abilene, Kansas to the late Jerome “Jay” and Jackie (Machen) Sieverson. Diana spent her early childhood in Abilene, Grand Junction, Colorado, Alaska and in Delta, Colorado. Most of her grade school and all of her high school years were spent in the Delta Schools. She graduated from Delta High School in 1962.
On September 1, 1962 in Delta, Diana was joined in marriage to Rolland Dennis Husted. They lived in Cedaredge, Colorado for two years, Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Carbondale, Colorado for four years. They then moved to Delta and finally moved to Paonia in 1968, where the family still resides.
Together, Diana and Dennis had three children, Rolinda Denise, Robert Dean and Roderick Don. Some of the most precious people in her life were her seven grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan and Trevor Smith, Megan, Cassidy, Brenten, and Analis Husted. She was thrilled to learn an 8th little one would arrive in July.
Besides being surrounded by her family, Diana enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, going for scenic drives and the sights of Las Vegas. In her earlier years, she belonged to Rainbow Girls, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and various organizations throughout her high school years.
Diana was of Christian faith and truly believed she had been given a gift from God when she received a lung transplant in January of 2003.
She had worked in several retail businesses in Paonia over the years, the most recent being Hays Drug. She enjoyed working with the public until her health forced her to retire.
Survivors include her husband of over 41 years, Dennis Husted of Paonia; her daughter Rolinda and husband Rick Smith of Paonia; two sons: Robby Husted and Karla Griswold of Paonia and Ricky and wife Kristen Husted of Hotchkiss, CO; seven grandchildren: Michael, Jonathan and Trevor Smith all of Paonia; Megan Husted of Tucson, AZ, Cassidy Husted of Grand Junction, and Brenten and Analis Husted of Hotchkiss. She is further survived by one brother, Jerry and wife Janet Sieverson of Montrose, CO; one uncle, Jim and wife Laura Machen of Littleton, CO; two cousins; a brother - in - law, Don and wife Dorothy Husted of Paonia; her father - in - law and step - mother - in - law: Rolland and Marge Husted of Cedaredge; four nieces: Mandi Rountree, Kirstin Husted, Tammy Fansler and Jamie Miller, as well as 7 great nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her mother - in - law, Jean Husted.
Memorials may be made to the University of Colorado Hospital Lung Transplant Program, 4200 East Ninth Ave., Mail Stop A021 - 392, Denver, CO 80128.

Naomi L. Hendricks
September 16, 1932 - November 30, 2003
DELTA – Naomi Hendricks died peacefully, November 30, 2003, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital surrounded by those she loved.
Memorial services for Naomi will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 6, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Services will conclude at the chapel. Her cremains will privately be laid to rest with her husband at Cedaredge Cemetery.
People who knew Naomi well will remember her strength waiting to take her last breath until all her children were with her.
Naomi’s dream was to be a nurse. She graduated from the Delta/Montrose Vo - Tech at the age of 47, finally realizing her dream. She worked her way through school as a waitress at Pizza Hut.
She raised four children alone, instilling the value of hard work. Love of family was apparent, for each of her children was special to her. She was so very proud of her grandchildren and was present for the birth of each one of them.
She was “Gram” to all, and fondly known as the “Old Nurse” to the patients she so lovingly cared for. Her greatest heartache was the death of her son, Richard, in August of 2001.
Naomi will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her brother, Joe and family; her sister and best friend Faye and husband Orval, and children Matthew and Tammy Patrick, Cindy and Matthew and her adopted grandchildren, Robert, Amanda, Sam and Jessica Worley; son Bob Hendricks and wife Grace, their children Joseph and Kevin and his wife Abbey; daughter - in - law, Donna (Hendricks) Aragon and granddaughters, Melissa Hendricks, Stephanie and Jesus Sandoval, and beautiful great - granddaughter, Keslie; daughter Ellen Hendricks and grandson Colton Star; daughter Anita Gonzales and son - in - law Gene, and grandson Michael Hendricks and wife Amanda and son Shawn; stepson, Ron Hendricks and wife Jean, and their children Fred and Jeff.
Naomi married Bob Hendricks on October 28, 1954, in Eagle, Colorado. He passed away on November 24, 1964.
Naomi was the Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Assembly #43 in Eagle, Colorado in 1949, and was her Senior High School class president and graduated from Eagle High School in 1950. Born to Gordon and Nora Morris on September 16, 1932, in Gilman, Colorado. Naomi’s life was a journey and now her life is complete.

Bobby Joe Sanderson
June 26, 1929 - December 1, 2003
DELTA - Long time Delta resident, Bobby Sanderson, died on Monday, December 1, 2003 at his residence. He was 74.
Services for Bobby will be held at a later date.
Bobby Joe Sanderson was born on June 26, 1929, to Horress C. and Jessie Mabel (Miller) Sanderson in Wellington, Texas. His family lived in Texas and Oklahoma until he was nine years old. At that time they moved to Montrose, Colorado, where he graduated from Montrose High School. He had been a resident of Olathe and then moved to Delta where he had made his home for the past forty - seven years.
Bobby married Eloise J. Anderson on May 27, 1950, in Montrose, Colorado. She survives.
Mr. Sanderson managed both COOPS in Delta. He also worked for Farmland Industry as a field agent for fifteen years. He was a member of the Garnet Mesa Baptist Church in Delta. He belonged to the Delta Elks Lodge #1235, the Delta Masonic Lodge #62 A.F. and A.M., and was a life member of the Delta V.F.W. Post #3571. Bobby enjoyed building clocks, gardening, and fishing. He especially loved to read and do puzzles.
He joined the United States Air Force and served his country before being discharged from the service.
Those grateful to have shared in Bobby’s life include his wife, Eloise Sanderson of Delta, CO; two daughters: Katherine D. Newell and her husband Gary of Littleton, CO, and Vicky Brown and husband Jerry of Tucson, AZ; a brother J.C. Sanderson and wife Vernell of Delta, CO. He is further survived by two grandchildren: Stephanie Brown and Ryan Brown and his wife Jessica all of Tucson, AZ; one great - grandchild, Amity Brown of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; four brothers; and one nephew.

Willis Ackerson
November 8, 1921 - November 25, 2003
RIFLE - Former Eckert resident, Willis Ackerson, died at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Rifle on Tuesday, November 25, 2003. He was 82.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 29th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Dan Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss, Colorado.
Willis Ackerson was born on November 8, 1921, to John Henry and Maude (Reed) Ackerson in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He spent his childhood in Iowa. He attended Fort Collins High School in Fort Collins, Colorado.
On November 19, 1949, Willis married Rosalie Ellsworth in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She preceded him in death on October 13, 1998, in Denver, Colorado. He moved to Tucson, Arizona, with his son Mike after her death. In 2000, he moved to the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Rifle where he has resided since.
Mr. Ackerson was a mill worker for Union Carbide in Uravan, Colorado, for thirty - seven years. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Eckert, Colorado, in 1986 until 1998. He belonged to the Senior Citizens Bowling League. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
Willis served in the United States Army during World War II.
Those grateful to have shared in Willis’ life include a son, Mike Ackerson and wife Susan of Montrose, CO; a daughter, Deborah Jackson of San Diego, CA; and a sister, Thelma Harvey of Delta, CO. He is further survived by four grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosalie; and ten brothers and sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimers Association, 761 Rood Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.

Joe B. Walters
August 15, 1919 - November 25, 2003
OLATHE - Longtime Olathe resident, Joe B. Walters, died on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 84.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Joe B. Walters was born on August 15, 1919, to Aaron Burr and Belle (Partain) Walters in Nucla, Colorado. His father was a contractor and they moved from job to job, so Joe spent his childhood in different parts of Colorado. He graduated from high school in Eagle, Colorado, in 1937. He and his wife have been residents of Olathe since 1980.
Mr. Walters attended the Methodist Church in Olathe, Colorado. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, the Gravel Range Masonic Lodge #59 A.F. and A.M. in Camptonville, California, the Delta Elks Lodge #1235, and was a life time member of D.A.V. in Montrose, Colorado, and the V.F.W. in Orville, California.
Joe married Portia M. Rice on July 25, 1947, in Aztec, New Mexico. They celebrated fifty - six years of marriage this past July. In the last few years they have enjoyed going in their travel trailer. They would winter in Arizona and then tour through Texas during the months they stayed down there. Portia survives him.
Mr. Walters worked in the heavy equipment business as an operating engineer. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Those grateful to have shared in Joe’s life include his wife, Portia of Olathe, CO; and a daughter, Joelyn Walters of Sacramento, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Betty S. Blanford
April 12, 1903 - November 21, 2003
HOTCHKISS - Hotchkiss resident, Betty S. Blanford, died on Friday, November 21, 2003, at the Paonia Care and Rehab Center in Paonia, Colorado. She was 100.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Betty S. Stene was born on April 12, 1903, to Jorgen and Maren (Solberg) Stene in Union County, South Dakota. She spent her childhood in Rural South Dakota and graduated from high school in Beresford, South Dakota. She attended St. Olaf College in South Dakota. She moved to Denver, Colorado in 1924 and lived there until she moved to Douglas County, Colorado in 1962. She came to Hotchkiss, Colorado in 1997, where she has made her home for the past six years.
Betty married Thomas Raymond Blanford on December 26, 1925, in Denver, Colorado. He preceded her in death in 1972 in Denver.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper in their family owned business of cabinet making. She belonged to the Presbyterian New Hope church in Castle Rock, Colorado. She belonged to the Toast Mistress Club, several bridge clubs, a member of the Presbyterian Women’s organization, and volunteered at the Castle Rock Senior Center. Betty loved to sew and made most of her family’s clothes. She also enjoyed gardening. She even learned to use a computer at the age of 85.
Those grateful to have shared in Betty’s life include a son, Tom Blanford and his wife Marilyn of Hotchkiss, CO; three grandchildren: Mark Blanford and his wife Anna of Dow, IL, Tim Blanford of Hotchkiss, CO, and Jolene Sue Blanford of Englewood, CO.
