*** James H. Palmer, 63, died April 1, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Services will be announced later this spring.

Mr. Palmer was a builder.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou of Palisade; two sons, Hannes Hollstein of Denver and Andreas Hollstein of Grand Junction; one daughter, Lucina Hendricks of Grand Junction; his mother, Jessie Easterly of Grand Junction; one sister, Ruth Rickerby of Palisade; two brothers, Philip of La Junta and Jonathan of Grand Junction; and two grandchildren.

*** Rose Stanfield, 84, Grand Junction, died April 3, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Martin Mortuary chapel.

Survivors include two sons, Jay and Ron, both of Grand Junction; and two daughters, LaVonne Holmes and Mariann Stanfield, both of Grand Junction; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

*** Bruce Leroy Berry, 65, Grand Junction, died April 11, 2008. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Farnum Holt Funeral Home. Services will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Basalt Middle School. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Denver.

Survivors include his wife, Carole; one son, Randy; two daughters, Juli and Jennifer; his mother, Marge; one brother, James; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

*** A. Wayne Cooley, 64, Delta, died April 12, 2008, at his home. Visitation will be at noon Thursday at the Delta Taylor Funeral Service Chapel. Services will be at 1 p.m. at the chapel. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.

Survivors include his wife, Lynne L. Bixler; three sons, Craig of Buffalo, N.Y., Ben of Sterling and David of Grand Junction; his father, Weldon of Snyder, Texas; and four brothers, Joe and Tommy, both of Gail, Texas, Ted of Snyder, Texas, and Gene of Amarillo, Texas.

*** Donald A. Gerd, 76, Delta, died April 10, 2008, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. Services will take place at 3 p.m. Friday at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two sons, Don A. and Dave J., both of Delta; and one brother, Bob of Denver.

*** Dorothy Groom, 92, Grand Junction, died April 13, 2008, at Mesa Manor. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Martin Mortuary Chapel. Services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

Survivors include three daughters, Dolores Rankin of Fruita, Ethel Miller of Grants Pass, Ore., and Donna Fletcher of Grand Junction; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

*** Violet Louise Bond, 94, Montrose, died April 15, 2008, at Valley Manor Care Center. Private services will take place with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle.

Survivors include two daughters, E. Louise Erenstoft of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Ginger Ryser of Montrose; two sisters, Rosalie Waller of Clifton and Virginia Jayne of Colorado Springs.

*** Florence Hamel, 86, Grand Junction, died April 23, 2008. Services will take place at 11 a.m. April 30 at the First Congregational Church.

Survivors include two children, Marty of Sunland, Calif., and Justin of Centennial; one sister, Carolyn Anderson of Salinas, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

*** Charles “Whitey” Reid, 91, Grand Junction, died April 23, 2008. Services will take place at 3 p.m. today at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery.

Mr. Reid was a supervisor for the city of Grand Junction.

*** Lula Mae Cunningham, 75, Grand Junction, died April 26, 2008, at her home. No local services are planned.

Mrs. Cunningham was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel L. and George A., both of El Dorado Springs, Mo., two daughters, Kandita Radspinner of Moundville, Mo., and Etta Marie of Salinas, Calif.; two brothers, Leonard Miller of Collbran and Clifford Miller of Grand Junction; one sister, Janice Miller of Grand Junction; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army.

*** Former Collbran resident, Raymond Merrick, 91, Aurora, died April 23, 2008, at his home. Services will take place at 2 p.m. today at Fort Logan Veterans Cemetery in Denver.

Mr. Merrick was employed at the Lowry Field and Fitzsimmons Hospital.

Survivors include one sister, Marie Shafer of Collbran.

Memorial contributions to a local Boy Scout troop.

*** Joey Stratton, 93, Cedaredge, died April 3, 2008, at Horizon Care Center. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Cedaredge Cemetery.

Mrs. Stratton was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Bob Brewer of Cedaredge; one brother, J.W. Ball of New Orleans; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

*** Helen T. Futa, 88, Grand Junction, died April 30, 2008, at her home. No services were provided.

Survivors include three daughters, Judith Ethridge and Jo Hunter, both of Grand Junction, and Mary Young of Loma; one sister, Shige Suzuki of Fruita; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

*** Nathan D. “Nate” Stevens, 73, Paonia, died April 3, 2008, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. Services will take place at 10 a.m. May 10 at the Paonia Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Ted of Coquille, Ore., Jim of Snohomish, Wash., Mark of Spokane, Wash., and Paul of Olathe; three sisters, Martha Adams of Lakewood, Alberta Rainwater of Riggins, Idaho, and Anna Hopper of Grand Junction.

*** Charles E. Sumpter, 52, Fruita, died April 27, 2008, at his home. Services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.

Mr. Sumpter was a retired staff sergeant for the United States Army and a construction worker.

Survivors include one sister, Tommie Bear of Arizona.

*** Murry Daniel Westergren, 89, Fruita, died April 28, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the L.D.S. Third Ward Church in Fruita. Services will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Westergren was a retail buyer.

Survivors include one son, Bruce Neal of Centennial; one daughter, Dorothy Whetton of Fruita; and three grandchildren.

*** Winifred L. Hopkins, 82, Grand Junction, died April 29, 2008, at her home.

Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Martin Mortuary chapel. Services will follow at 3 p.m.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne F.; four sons, Wyland W. of Hazel Green, Ala., Melvin A. of Dunedin, Fla., Rodger C. of Maple Valley, Wash., and Adam E. of Sparks, Nev.; one daughter, Terry R. of Grand Junction; one brother, Jack Roberts of Grand Junction; one sister, Inez Henke of Grand Junction; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

*** Former Grand Junction resident Frances Maud Kelly, 92, Austin, Texas, died April 30, 2008, at the Christopher House Hospice Center.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. May 8 at Martin Mortuary chapel. Services will follow at 1 p.m.

Survivors include one son, David of Austin, Colo.; one daughter, Jean Thomas of Clifton; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

*** Gladys D. Moore, 85, Delta, died April 30, 2008, at Montrose Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Taylor Funeral Service chapel in Delta.

Services will follow at Delta City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, George; one son, John Hanning of Cuero, Texas; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

*** Mabel C. Myrick, 75, Delta, died April 30, 2008, at her home.

Services will take place at a later date.

Survivors include two sons, Duane Myrick of Delta and Robert Gulliford of Grand Junction; four daughters, Rhonda Newberry of Hayden, Lori Stein of Grand Junction and Sandra Myrick and Effiebell Gulliford, both of Hereford, Ariz.; one brother, Ralph Sterry of Grand Junction; two sisters, Linda Sterry of Grand Junction and Rose Amrick of Meeker; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

*** Vickie I. Pfister, 49, Montrose, died April 29, 2008, at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Service in Delta.

Burial will be at Pea Green Cemetery in Olathe.

Mrs. Pfister was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; two sons, Lance of Dallas and Brett of Montrose; one daughter, Terra Janaun Melvin of Montrose; two brothers, Henry Bellew of Delta and Gary Bellew of Olathe; three sisters, Linda McGehee of Delta, Carlene Neely of Grand Junction, and Sonja Gregory of Vici, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

*** Robert “Bob” V. Smith, 88, Grand Junction, died April 25, 2008, at Larchwood Inns. Services will take place at 4 p.m. May 9 at The Commons.

Mr. Smith was the former owner and operator of the local Coors Beer distributorship in Grand Junction.

*** William “Bill” Wooters, 87, Grand Junction, died May 1, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Wooters was a railroad supervisor.

Survivors include his wife, Wonda; one sons, Ken of Asheboro, N.C.; two daughters, Linda Saylor of Bridgeport, Texas, and Paula Beemer of Gilbert, Ariz.; one brother, Tom of California; one sister, Bonnie Jensen of St. George, Utah; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Hill was a grocery store owner in Collbran.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille M.; one son, Gary L. of Olathe; two daughters, Betty L. Plummer of Gold Canyon, Ariz., and Lana J. Hill of Grand Junction; one brother, Clifford Hill of Collbran; one sister, Ida Mae Partee of Port Townsend, Wash.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
