Christina Carol (Crawford) Shields
December 19, 1968 - October 26, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Cedaredge resident, Christina C. Shields died Sunday, October 26, 2003, at Waverly, Tennessee. She was 34.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 1st at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge. Larry Burns will preside. A private interment will take place at the Cory Cemetery in Cory, CO.
Born Christina Carol Crawford on December 19, 1968, in Delta, CO, she was the daughter of Jerry Glen and Phyllis Mae (Torske) Crawford. She graduated from Overland High School in Aurora, CO in 1987. She had been resident of Cedaredge since 1990.
Christina had been a flight attendant for United Airlines. Her interests included her love of music, art work and gardening.
Among survivors are her parents, Phyllis and Ken Shields of Cedaredge; and her father, Jerry Crawford, Sr., of Denver, CO; one brother, Jerry Glen Crawford, Jr. and wife Celina of Austin, TX; two sisters, Melody Lynn Anderson and husband Bryan, of Eckert, CO and Valerie Faith Sangiuliano and husband Tony, of Aurora, CO. She is further survived by her step paternal grandparents, Roy and Isal McAnelly of Cedaredge, CO, several aunts and uncles and three nephews.
Christina was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Rachael Eileen Foster
September 6, 1922 - October 23, 2003
PAONIA – Rachael Eileen McCray was born in Fullerton, Nebraska, on September 6, 1922. Raised by her paternal grandmother, she fondly remembered spending many hours with her many cousins. After high school graduation she attended teacher prep college at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she met Don Foster. During World War II, she taught in one - room schools in Nance County, Nebraska.
She married Navy Lt. (jg) Don, on June 16, 1946, on a day with temperatures so hot all the candelabra candles melted. But unlike the candles their love didn’t melt. They lived several years in Nebraska, moving to Colorado in 1950. Moving first to Pueblo, then Greeley, they settled and called Paonia home in 1959. Rachael and Don had three children.
Rachael was a full - time homemaker, working tirelessly for the family, the Methodist Church and community. She was active in the Paonia United Methodist Church and Pitkin Mesa club. She volunteered as a classroom room mother and as a PTA member for 24 years. She was a Cub Scout leader and a 4 - H leader. Many girls who learned to sew under her strict instruction learned perfection while creating the straightest seam possible. Once a teacher, always a teacher, her children remember that vacations were educational on their car adventures to the east coast for the 1964 New York World’s Fair and to the west coast for the 1974 Spokane World’s Fair. She also volunteered and substitute taught in Paonia Elementary school after her children graduated. She was a volunteer “reading buddy” at the Sunshine Preschool.
She was a great cook, taking pride in everything she made. Even after she became gravely ill a year ago, she managed to create a cherry pastry that took a prize in the Cherry Day recipe contest. She made friends with young and old and became the “adopted” grandma to several area children.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Danielle Foster. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Don; her three children: Nelda and husband John Brangwin of Bellevue, Washington, Curtis Foster and Grant Foster both of Paonia; and two step grandsons: Jessie and John Dietrich.
Memorials can be made to the Paonia United Methodist Church, or to the Sunshine Cottage, both at P.O. Box 157, Paonia, CO 81428.
A memorial service will be held at the Paonia United Methodist Church on November 29th at 10:00 a.m.
Interment of cremated remains will be in the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at Grand Junction.

Lorraine Rhodus
June 10, 1923 - October 23, 2003
AUSTIN - Lorraine Rhodus of Austin, Colorado, died Thursday, October 23, 2003 at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert. She was 80.
Private family graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, October 24th at the Eckert Cemetery. James Gall will preside.
Marion Lorraine Giles was born on June 10, 1923 in Boulder, Colorado to the late John Thomas and Elizabeth (Broom) Giles. She spent her childhood in Loma and Fruita, Colorado and graduated from Loma High School in 1940.
She married Harold G. Rhodus in Denver, Colorado. Harold preceded her in death on October 31, 1996 in Florence, Arizona. She previously married Robert L. Zimmerman in 1943. The marriage was dissolved.
Lorraine was the owner/operator of a café. She enjoyed reading, sewing and animals. She moved to Austin three years ago coming from Kenai, Alaska.
Survivors include two daughters: Sharon K. Olford and husband Ned of Grand Junction, CO and Jeanne L. Bailey and husband Les of Austin, CO; one sister, Edith Nelson and husband Clarence of Clifton, CO; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

John W. Norvell
December 28, 1936 - October 18, 2003
DELTA - Delta resident, John W. Norvell died Saturday, October 18, 2003 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 66.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, October 24th between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. A graveside funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the Delta City Cemetery. James Gall will preside.
John W. Norvell was born on December 28, 1936, to Ira William and Mary Iva (Dawson) Norvell in Delta, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Delta and attended Delta High School. He lived in Silverthrone and then moved to Salida until 1985, when he moved back to Delta.
Mr. Norvell served his country in the United States Navy.
John was a uranium miner. He also worked for the City of Salida for several years in their public works department. He enjoyed reading and especially loved to work in his yard and garden.
Those grateful to have shared in John’s life include two brothers: Sam Norvell and his wife Veta, Dick Norvell and his wife Ena all of Delta, CO; two sisters: Martha Morrison of Delta, CO, and Sidney Wagner and her husband John of Carson City, NV. He is further survived by two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tammie Jo Dowley; and a brother, David Norvell.
Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to American Cancer Society, c/o Fredrica Morris, 14545 Hwy 65, Eckert, CO 81418.

Powell O. Mims
June 4, 1935 - October 18, 2003
GRAND JUNCTION - Former longtime Paonia resident, Powell O. Mims, died Saturday, October 18, 2003, at his residence in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 68.
A graveside funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 23rd at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss. Jack Saari will preside.
Powell Oscar Mims was born on June 4, 1935 in Denver, Colorado, to the late Oscar B. and Ruth E. (Jackson) Mims. He spent his childhood in Grants Pass, Oregon, and returned to Colorado to graduate with the class of 1953 from Gypsum High School in Gypsum, Colorado. After serving his country in the United States Navy as a Pilot, he then continued his education at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, graduating in 1971.
Powell married Martha Guy on June 4, 1959, in Sheridan, Wyoming. She survives. They moved to Paonia, Colorado in 1971. They owned and operated several convenience stores in the area. They moved to Grand Junction in 1991, due to health reasons.
Mr. Mims was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints. He was an avid reader and inventor. He held the copyright for specialized slide rules and patented the first solid state counter for self serve gas pumps. He enjoyed collecting scientific instruments, surveying, computers and electronics. However, his biggest joy was spending time with his beloved family.
Survivors include his wife of over 44 years, Martha Mims of Grand Junction; a daughter, Dairshi Yaitanes and husband Michael of Orlando, FL; three sons: Marc Mims and wife Jenny of Spokane, WA; Powell Brian Mims and wife Jill of Lake City, IA; and Brent Mims of Grand Junction; and a sister, Joy Bailey and husband Bill of Delta, CO. He is further survived by two sister - in - laws: Margaret Yates of Fairfax, CA, Orpha Mims of Cottonwood, CA and nine grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard Mims.
Memorials may be made to the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Association, P.O. Box 1410, Golden, CO 80402 - 1410.

Adella Becker
September 16, 1907 - October 17, 2003
DELTA, CO - Adella Becker, of Delta, Colorado went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 17, 2003 at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 96.
A visitation for family and friends is planned for Thursday, October 23rd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge, Colorado. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 24th at the Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church in Cedaredge. Larry Burns will preside. Burial will follow at the Cedaredge Cemetery.
Adella V. Buller was born September 16, 1907 in Goltry, Oklahoma to the late Edward and Lena Alice (Unruh) Buller. She lived in Goltry until she joined Irvin Becker in marriage on April 3, 1927. After the wedding they moved to Ulysses, Kansas. In February of 1933 they moved to Hillsdale, Oklahoma for a short while and then on to Halstead, Kansas, where they stayed until 1970. They then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas for five years and returned to Halstead were they stayed until moving to Cedaredge, Colorado in 1989 to be closer to their children. Irvin preceded her in death on August 28, 2001 in Delta, Colorado after 74 years of marriage.
Adella was a floral designer. She also worked in two hospitals. She was a loving and caring mother and a friend to many. She enjoyed teaching evangelism to small children and loved the mountains.
Survivors include a daughter, Pernie Matthies and husband Lester of Cedaredge, CO; a son, Myron Becker of Cedaredge, CO; a sister - in - law, Marie Buller of Newton, KS; and life - long friend, Ellie Parsons of Cedaredge, CO. Adella is further survived by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great - great grandchild, five step great grandchildren and two step great - great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter - in - law, Joan Becker; a brother, John Buller; and a sister and brother - in - law, Lavina and Bennie Boehs.

Christine “Christy” C. Smith
January 1, 1915 - October 17, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Cedaredge resident, Christine “Christy” Cecelia Smith died Friday, October 17, 2003 at The Commons Assisted Living in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 88.
A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 21st at 10:00 a.m., at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Cedaredge, followed by a memorial mass at 10:30 a.m., with the Reverend Mark Bettinger presiding. Christy’s ashes will be interred with her parents and brothers at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Oakland, California at a later date.
Christine Cecelia Marino was born on January 1, 1915 in Oakland, California to the late Frank and Josephine (Zammarrelli) Marino, of Rocco Cilento, Italy. Christy attended Presentation High School in Berkeley and continued her education at Chabot Community College in Oakland, Christine graduated from Schofield Business College in Oakland, CA.
Christy worked as a clerk for the Berkeley - Alameda Court system. she worked in the criminal division and records for the Alameda Sheriff’s Department and as a receiving officer for the juvenile detention facility.
On August 2, 1936 in Oakland, California Christy married Melvin Smith. The marriage was later dissolved.
After retiring, Christy worked as a private security officer for Capwell’s Department Store and the Oakland Airport. At that time ballroom dancing became her passion.
Christy was the beloved mother of Marianne Janice (Smith) Mulvey and husband Joe of Cedaredge, CO. She is further survived by a brother Carl Marino and his wife Joyce of Walnut Creek, CA; a sister, Anita Marino of Castro Valley, CA; four grandchildren, Timothy Mulvey of Parker, CO; Teresa Simmons of Vallejo, CA; Sean Mulvey of Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany; and Colleen Wixson of Cary, NC; ten great grandchildren: Christine, Maria, Monica, Timothy, Sean, Shane, Andrea, Kayla, Shea, and Mitchell.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carlo and James Marino.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 2754 Compass Drive, Suite 377, Grand Junction, CO 81506.

Frances N. Thompson
January 19, 1913 - October 16, 2003
CRAWFORD - Longtime North Fork area resident, Frances Naomi Thompson, died Thursday, October 16, 2003 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 90.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Crawford Community United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 21st from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Reverend Rick Clair officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford.
Frances Naomi Pillard was born on January 19, 1913, in Pomona, Kansas to the late Charles F. and Myrtle (Blakesly) Pillard. She spent her childhood and graduated from high school in Kansas. After graduation, she received her teaching certificate in Tribune, Kansas.
Frances married Joseph Thompson on June 4, 1950 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1993 in Crawford. She was previously married to Leonard Hendrix.
Frances moved to the North Fork area in 1936 where she had remained until her death. She was a member of the Crawford Community United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included oil painting and doll making.
Survivors include two daughters: Pat Bennett and husband Ed of Crawford and Connie Warren of Delta; a daughter - in - law, Barbara Hendrix of Abilene, TX; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and four great - great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, her husband Joe and previous husband Leonard, she was also preceded in death by a son, Jack L. Hendrix; two brothers, Charles and Glenn Pillard and a sister, Evelyn Powell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford Community United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 567, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.

Paul V. McGehee
December 5, 1917 - October 12, 2003
OLATHE - Longtime Western Colorado resident, Paul V. McGehee, died on Sunday, October 12, 2003, at his residence. He was 85.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 14th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Funeral services for Mr. McGehee will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with Allen Moss and Greg Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Pea Green Cemetery, Pea Green, Colorado.
Paul Vernon McGehee was born on December 5, 1917, to Thomas Marion and Ella (Moreland) McGehee in Liberal, Kansas. He spent his childhood and attended school in Liberal. At age eighteen, Paul moved to Colorado and spent his life living in the Delta and Grand Junction areas until seven years ago when he moved to Vici, Oklahoma. Very recently, due to health, he moved to Olathe, Colorado to be near his family.
Paul married Goldie Bowker on April 25, 1941, in Delta, Colorado. She preceded him in death on July 16, 1991, in Delta, Colorado. He married Matilda Bellew on June 27, 1994, in Durango, Colorado. She survives.
Mr. McGehee was a truck driver for Corn Construction in Grand Junction, Colorado for twenty years. He was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the First Born. He also belonged to the Colorado Trappers Association and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and gardening.
Those grateful to have shared in Paul’s life include his wife, Matilda McGehee, of Vici, OK; two sons: Paul E. McGehee and wife Beverly of Grand Junction, CO, and Gary E. McGehee and wife Linda of Delta, CO; three step - sons: Ronald Morris and wife Cheryl of Delta, CO, Greg Morris and wife Gail of Parkland, OK, and Jerry Morris and wife Valerie of Agar, OK; four daughters: Carol Morris of Vici, OK, Donna McCracken and husband Wendell of Pauls Valley, OK, Linda Morris and husband Merl of Grand Junction, CO, and Rhonda Morris and husband John of Vici, OK. He is further survived by thirty grandchildren and thirty - four great - grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Goldie; eleven brothers and sisters; and two son - in - laws.
