MORALES

A Funeral Mass for Gloria Sue Morales, 53, of Rocky Ford will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2004. A Rosary will be held on June 14 at 7 p.m. Both services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe/ St. Patrick Parish. Also a private service was held in Topeka, Kan. Father Paul Montez of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford will be officiating. Mrs. Morales died on June 7, 2004 in Topeka Kansas.

She was born June 30, 1950 in La Junta to Louis and Rose (Martinez) Morales. She attended schools in La Junta while growing up.

Mrs. Morales is survived by her four daughters, Renee C. Whatley of Topeka, Kan.; Michelle Osbourne of Seattle Wash.; Athena Morales of Seattle, Wash.; Crystal Rael of Topeka, Kan.; her mother, Rose Gallegos of La Junta; brother Louis Morales of Las Animas; sister Dolly Grajeda of La Junta; thirteen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Morales, in 1980.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Renee Whatley to help defray funeral costs in Kansas, send direct to Renee or in care of Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home, 401 Raton Ave., La Junta, Colo., 81050, which is in charge of local arrangements.

NETHERTON

Danny Lloyd Netherton, 64, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Las Animas to Lloyd George and Frances Mae (Jenkins) Netherton. He married Sarah Ellen Hansen on Feb. 14, 1959, in Las Animas.

At the time of his death he was manager of the Las Animas Cemetery. He was service manager at Kester Motor Company from 1966 until 1983. He operated Netherton's Garage, with his father, for several years and also owned and operated the Tastee Freez for several years.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Volunteer Fire Department, Jaycees, and the La Junta Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sandra D. Netherton of Pueblo; two brothers, Dennis 'Corky' (Corliss) Netherton, Chuck (Geri Ann) Netherton, both of Las Animas and nephews, Alex, Nick, Eric, Ross and Heath.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Las Animas Cemetery with Dwain Ellis officiating. Horber Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

WINTERMUTE

Miriam Berst Wintermute, 85, a former resident of Las Animas, died at her home in Selmer, Tenn., Sunday, June 6, 2004.

She was born in Chefoo, China, on March 24, 1919, to missionary parents. She received her bachelor's degree from Maryville College, Maryville, Tenn., and did graduate work at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. She married John B. Wintermute on Sept. 7, 1941.

The Wintermutes lived in Las Animas from 1949 to 1957 where he pastored the First Presbyterian Church and lived in Rocky Ford from 1979 to 1986 where he also pastored the First Presbyterian Church. They returned to reside in Rocky Ford from 1989-2000.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Wendy Wintermute and husband Lawrence Harman of Albuquerque, N.M., Katie Wintermute of Selmer, Tenn.; three sons, Steve (Janice) Wintermute of Kingsport, Tenn.; Tim (Kathie Sutcliffe) Wintermute of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Will Wintermute of Selmer, Tenn.; five grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a brother, William Berst of Fla.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9 at the First Presbyterian Church in Selmer.

Those wishing to do so may make memorials to the American Cancer Society.

CHAVEZ

Funeral Mass for Manuel Chavez, 75, of Rocky Ford will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday June 16 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford with Father Paul Montez officiating. The Vigil for the Deceased will be tonight (Tuesday June 15) at 6:45 p.m., also at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Mr. Chavez died on June 13, 2004 at Pioneer Health Care Center of Rocky Ford.

He was born on July 4, 1928 in Ft. Lyon to Estaneslado Chavez and Genevieve Barela. He worked in construction and as a carpenter.

Mr. Chavez is survived by his children Genevieve (Gilford) Osburn of Rocky Ford; Manuel (Stacey) Chavez Jr. of Denver and Michelle Chavez of Littleton; grandchildren Andrea Fresquez of Rocky Ford; Daniel (Laura) Fresquez of Ordway; sisters Arlene (Mike) Garcia of Denver; Genevieve Gabaldon of Rocky Ford; Mary Cortinez of Rocky Ford; Edith Monroy of La Junta; Patricia (Manuel) Zarate of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers Tony (Rachel) Chavez of Salina, Kan.; Ernest (Linda) Chavez of Westminster; four Great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward Chavez and grandson Tommy Osburn.

Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HENRY

Funeral services for Nora T. Nordick Henry, 95, will be held at Warren Mitchell Center in Limon on June 16, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. Leslie White, Donovan Peterson, and Hester Williams will conduct the service. Visitation will be today from 5-9 p.m. at the Love Funeral Home in Limon. Burial will be at Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon. Mrs. Henry passed away on June 9, 2004.

Nora T. Briley was born on January 14, 1909 in Hodgeman County, Kan. a few miles north of Jetmore. She was next to the youngest of nine children born to Clarabelle Bickel Briley and Jerome Franklin Briley. Nora was 7 years old when the family moved to Haswell by covered wagon in 1916 trailing with them 50 cattle and 250 head of horses. They homesteaded 14 miles North of Haswell where Frank built a 3-room cement home and barn. There they farmed and milked 30 dairy cows and raised horses and mules.

She married Vernon Nordick in Eads on November 24, 1928 and to this union was born three sons: Willard B. Nordick of Limon; Larry Don Nordick of Ft. Collins; and Gary E. Nordick of Ft. Collins. Also surviving is a stepson Vernon Lee (Sonny) Nordick of Buffalo, Okla. After Vern's death on August 31, 1958, Nora married Clarence Mann on January 22, 1965. Clarence passed away on July 17, 1978 and then Nora was married to Robert L. Henry of Haxtun on September 13, 1980.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents and her eight brothers and sisters. Surviving is her husband, Bob Henry, her four sons, their wives, 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Limon Volunteer Ambulance and Fire Dept., P.O. Box 3 74, Limon, Colo. 80828 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4567 East 9th Ave. Denver, Colo. 80220.

Love Funeral Home in Limon is in charge of arrangements.

PEREZ

Edward L. "Porkey" Perez, 58, died June 12 near Denver. Arrangements are pending at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home.

WINTERMUTE

RAEL

Funeral services for Rebecca Rael, 44, of Denver will be held on Tuesday June 15 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Romero Funeral Home and Grooms Crematory with a visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Romero Funeral Home 921 Colorado Ave. in La Junta. Pastor Gordon Gossman will be officiating.

She was born on November 24, 1959 in La Junta to Espiranza Esther Gamez and Jimmy Rael. She enjoyed collecting Elvis memorabilia, Indian items and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her mother, Espiranza Gamez of La Junta; husband Ken Wojczynski of Denver; son Troy (Tiana) Rael of Thornton; daughters Crystal and Dawn Rael; sisters Eve (Pablo) Lopez of Alabama; Marie (John) Shank of Louisiana; Angelic Gamez of La Junta; Aaron Rael of Denver; Adam (Sheila) Rael of Thornton; Noah (Rebecca) Rael of Thornton; grandchildren Dominic, Fabian, Damias, and Nathaniel Rael of Thornton; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Jimmy Rael; sisters Esther Rael and Faith Quinonez.

Johnson-Romero Funeral Home & Grooms Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

GOFF

A private family burial was held in Jacksonville, Texas for Rosalie Peteque Goff, 75, of Jacksonville, Texas. Mrs. Goff died June 9, 2004.

She was born in La Junta to Andrew and Matilda Whatley Peteque.

She is survived by her children, Carl (Cindy) Goff, of Rush, Texas; Joyce Ann (Skip) Coltellano of Dallas; Glenda (Gordon) Galeman of Jacksonville, Texas; and Nancy (George) Burton of Jacksonville, Texas; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Goff; a brother Joe Luciano of Rocky Ford; and a sister Mary Peteque of La Junta.

STAADTS

A private family burial will be held for Evelyn Bernice Staadts, 95 of Pueblo and formerly of Rocky Ford. Mrs. Staadts died on June 8, 2004 in Pueblo. She was born on October 27, 1908 in Glen Carbon, Illinois to George Crighton and Fannie Lindsey. Survivors are her son George (Myrna) Sharp of Pueblo and daughter Leatrice (Ronald) Schafer of Walsenburg. Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ECHER

After a long and valiant fight with cancer, David L. Echer departed this world to be with the Lord on June 9, 2004. born Luciano Gorkic Anapoli on September 21, 1948, in Chiati, Italy, he came to the United States at the age of 8 1/2 and was adopted by Joe and Sylvia Theresa Echer of Trinidad, Colo. As a youngster, Dave attended Trinidad Catholic Schools. At the age of 13, he moved to Kim, Colo. where he was raised by Clell and Marie Reagan along with close friend John Marroney. Dave graduated from Kim High School in 1967.

After graduation, Dave joined the United States Navy where he was a radar tech on P3 planes. In 1971, he was Honorably Discharged and returned to Kim to assist the Reagan's in the operation of their ranch. He also attended Trinidad State Junior College during this time.

On September 30, 1972, Dave married Lori Ann Reese and son Ryan was born March 29, 1974.

Dave held various jobs throughout his career. After a short stint in the mining industry in Urad, Colo., Dave returned to the Arkansas Valley where he worked for six years at Southeast Colorado Power. During his employment there, he received his Journeyman Electrician License. In 1979, he returned to the mining industry again where he worked as an electrician for CF&I in the mines outside Trinidad. Dave then moved to Colorado Springs in 1983 to work for ICG Electric. After two years, Dave and his family relocated to Swink and he became employed by Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC) as an electrician.

During his tenure at AVRMC, Dave was a valued and hardworking member of the Facilities Department. For the past four years, he served as the Facility Supervisor and was instrumental in the planning and overseeing of the new construction of the hospital's upgrades and additions including the ICU ward, Emergency Room and the Facility Plant.

Dave relished hard work and truly cared for those who worked with him. During his hard-fought battle with melanoma, Dave still continued to work and could often be heard saying, "I want to be there to get my guys started."

He will be remembered as a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather uncle and friend. Dave's first priority in his life was both his immediate and extended family. His caring and compassionate ways were also felt by his friends and that love extended to animals as well especially his dogs Harley and Kelsey. One of Dave's passions was motorcycles. He was extensively involved in his son Ryan's motocross racing during the 1980s and most recently enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.

One of Dave's proudest times was the birth of his grandson Kurtis Luciano Echer in October of 2003. Dave battled his disease in order to see his grandson born. He was also very close with his twin great nieces, Morgann & Madysen Cordova. Dave often said that these three children were the best medicine.

Dave was loved and will be missed by his many family members, especially his wife Lori, son Ryan, daughter-in-law Johnnie Marie and grandson Kurtis, all of Swink. He is also survived by his mother Sylvia Theresa Echer and mother-in-law Margaret L. Nauta both of Swink; sisters-and brothers-in-law Deborah and Russ Adams and Rhonda and Jeff McClelland; nieces Amy McClelland (Jerry) Cordova and Holli Houghton (Owen) Coulman; nephew W. Reese (Deanna) Houghton; great nieces Morgann and Madysen Cordova; great nephews Loghan and Gavin Houghton; aunts Esther Mattedi and Catherine Mattedi; and special friends John and Janet Marroney.

Memorial services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Junta at 10 a.m. Monday, June 14th.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions and donations be made to the Dave Echer Memorial Fund, c/o AVRMC, 1100 Carson Avenue, La Junta, Colo. 81050.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at AVRMC for their kindness and loving care for making his stay and last hours as comfortable and dignified as possible.

FORRESTER

Pamela Jean Clifton Smith Forrester died June 6, 2004 at her home in Tallulah, La. at the age of 53. She was born in Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mrs. Forrester graduated from Widefield High School in 1968. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduation and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base for Basic Training in San Antonio, Texas. She served in U.S. Air Force for several years and was even stationed on the island of Crete, Greece.

She was a housewife and a member of the American Legion in Tallulah. She did community service for the elderly and gave help where ever was needed. She loved cooking and gardening. Her pride and joy was her family, especially her husband and children and her grandchildren who called her "Granny."

She is survived by her husband James Dee Forrester of Tallulah, La.; son Nicholas Alexander (Elizabeth) Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; parents Joe and Billy Clifton of Fowler; sisters Sandra Kay (Jerry) Hall of Colorado Springs; Janet Lynn Clifton of Colorado Springs; and grandchildren Nathaniel and Rebecca Dawn of Jacksonville, Fla.
