Neva Ione Tyler
November 26, 1924 - June 21, 2004
DELTA - Long time Delta County resident, Neva Ione Tyler, passed away at her residence on Monday, June 21, 2004. She was 79.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service in Delta. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, June 25, 2004, at the First Assembly of God in Delta, with Pastor Lee Ponder and Pastor Don Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Delta City Cemetery.
Neva Ione Edwards was born to Eber Robert and Leta Inez (Chamberlain) Edwards on November 26, 1924, in Eureka, California. She spent her childhood in Compton, California and Arizona. She attended schools in both states. Ione moved from Long Beach, California in 1940, to Delta, Colorado, where she has resided since.
On May 31, 1942, Ione married Raymond F. Tyler, Sr. in Delta, Colorado. They celebrated their sixty - second anniversary this year. He survives.
Ione, a homemaker, was a member of the First Assembly of God in Delta. She belonged to TOPS and the Women’s Ministries. She enjoyed needle point, crocheting, photography, walking, and putting puzzles together. She liked to go camping and fishing. Ione was a painter and a wonderful cook. Her greatest love was her family.
Those grateful to have shared in Ione’s life include her husband, Raymond of Delta, CO; three sons: Edward Ray Tyler and his wife Christine of Olathe, CO, Raymond F. Tyler, Jr. and his wife Sue, and Russ Tyler and his wife Mary all of Delta, CO; three brothers: Lowell Edwards and his wife Virginia of Marysville, UT, Ira C. Edwards and his wife Marie of Cedaredge, CO, and Paul Edwards and his wife Mary of Norman, OK. She is further survived by twelve grandchildren and thirteen great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wilford Edwards; two sisters: Muriel Marshal and Eileen Kempf; a daughter, Lee Ann Tyler; and a grandson, Stacey Dean Tyler.

Edith M. Reed
October 13, 1914 - June 22, 2004
HOTCHKISS - Long time North Fork area resident, Edith M. Reed, passed away at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta, Colorado, on Tuesday, June 22, 2004. She was 89.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss. A graveside funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Reverend Charles Steinberg will officiate.
Edith M. Summers was born on October 13, 1914, to Rufus and Virginia (Murray) Summers in Geronimo, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood in the Denver area and attended schools in Denver, fourth grade at Hotchkiss Elementary, and the Midway school.
On October 14, 1932, Edith married George Reed in Paonia, Colorado. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1994, in Delta.
Edith, a homemaker, enjoyed sewing and gardening and raised beautiful flowers. She also liked to fish. She was a dear Christian lady who loved to read her Bible.
Those grateful to have shared in Edith’s life include two sons: Raymond Reed of Hotchkiss, CO, and Leonard Reed and his wife Bertha of Grand Junction, CO; one daughter, Marie Hale of Oklahoma City, OK; three brothers: Oscar Summers and his wife June of Prescott Valley, AZ, Rufus Summers and his wife Maxine of Yakima, WA, and George Summers and his wife Lois of Orofino, ID; and one sister Mae Heinecke of Sutherlin, OR. She is further survived by six grandchildren and ten great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; two brothers; and two sisters.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Helen H. Banfield
February 13, 1920 - June 21, 2004
PAONIA - North Fork resident, Helen H. Banfield, passed away at Paonia Care and Rehab Center in Paonia on Monday, June 21, 2004. She was 84.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Helen Hazel Clements was born on February 13, 1920, to Earl and Hazel (Bridgewater) Clements in Rushville, Illinois. She spent her childhood in Rushville and graduated from high school there. She moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1955, and then moved to Independence, Missouri, in 1960. In 1980, Helen moved to Paonia, Colorado, where she has resided since.
Helen married Merrill Hunt. He preceded her in death. She then married William Banfield in Independence, Missouri. He preceded her in death at Independence in 1980.
Mrs. Banfield, a homemaker, loved to do religious research work and she enjoyed writing.
Survivors include a sister, Saydee Smith of Hemet, CA. She is further survived by six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; two sons, Mike Hunt and Larry Hunt; and one infant daughter.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Forrest Chinn
January 2, 1913 - June 20, 2004
HOTCHKISS - Long time Delta county resident, Forrest Chinn, passed away at his residence on Sunday, June 20, 2004. He was 91.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss.
Forrest Chinn was born on January 2, 1913, to Roy and Minnie (Bragg) Chinn at Chandler, Oklahoma. He spent his childhood in Holly and graduated from Holly High School in 1931. He went on to further his education at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.
On July 24, 1937, Forrest married Marjorie Hambley at Syracuse, Kansas. They celebrated sixty - six years of marriage last year. She survives. The Chinn’s lived in Gunnison and Crested Butte from 1938 until 1942. They moved to the Eckert and Cedaredge areas for the next seven years and finally settled in Hotchkiss in 1949, where they have made their home since.
Forrest enjoyed his orchard and farming on Powell Mesa until 1965. In 1965, he became a realtor and sold real estate until 1983. He belonged to Kiwanis and was a charter member of the Clown Band. He was a former member of the Hotchkiss Elk’s Lodge #1807, and the Eckert IOOF Lodge and had been a bugler for the Veterans for over fifty years. Forrest also served as the President of the Grand Mesa Resort Company for many years. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and playing pinochle. His great love was restoring antique cars. He was a long time member of the Ute Trails Car Club.
Those grateful to have shared in Forrest’s life include his wife Marjorie of Hotchkiss, CO; five sons: Gary Chinn and his wife Linda of Denver, CO, Richard Chinn and Alton Chinn both of Hotchkiss, CO, Ronald Chinn and his wife Kathy of Delta, CO, and Kenneth Chinn and his wife Kay of Durant, OK; and one brother, LeRoy Chinn and his wife Celia of Cedaredge, CO. He is further survived by nine grandchildren; and eight great - grandchildren.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Bernard Chinn.

Terry T. Morris
November 11, 1946 - June 19, 2004
DELTA - Long time Delta county resident, Terry Morris, passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 19, 2004. He was 57.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2004, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Lion’s Pavilion, Confluence Park, Delta, Colorado.
Terry Trent Morris was born on November 11, 1946, to Thayer Trent and Geraldine Amanda (Heinrich) Morris in Lincoln, Nebraska. He spent his childhood in Memphis, Tennessee, until the age of five when his family moved to Delta. He graduated from Delta High School in 1965. In 1980 he moved to Canon City, Colorado and then moved to Pacific Grove, California, in 1989. Terry and his family moved back to Delta in 1991 where they have resided since.
On November 24, 1965, Terry married Cheryl Lea Webb at Durango, Colorado. She survives.
Terry was an optician and owned his own optical shop in Delta. He was a member of the Delta Seventh - day Adventist Church. Some of his hobbies included collectable cars and antique radios. He loved his family and doing things with them. His number one love was his grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in Terry’s life include his wife of thirty - eight years, Cheryl L. Morris of Delta, CO; five daughters: Monica Whelan and her husband Tom , Chanda Jones and her husband Tom, Rachel Dale and her husband Brian, Erin Haskins and her husband Chris, all of Delta, CO, and Candi Foraker and her husband Mark of Canon City, CO; his father, Dr. Thayer T. Morris of Delta, CO; one brother, Scott Morris and his wife Robin of Puyallup, WA; three sisters: Theyl Turner and her husband John of Southern Pines, NC, Jennifer Acker and her husband Carl of Loveland, CO, and Tena Cotton and her husband Keith of Los Angeles, CA. He is further survived by nine grandchildren.
Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine A. Morris; and a brother Randy Eugene Morris.
Memorial contributions may be made in Terry’s memory to the Salvation Army, 175 E. First St., Delta, CO 81416.

Rick Evans
September 5, 1941 - June 18, 2004
CEDAREDGE - Cedaredge resident, Rick Evans, died at his residence on Friday, June 18, 2004. He was 62.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge, Colorado. Hospice Chaplain Tom Leach will officiate. Services will conclude at the Chapel.
Rick Evans was born on September 5, 1941, to Lloyd and Olive (Rutledge) Lucas in South Bend, Indiana. He spent his early childhood in Calumet City, Illinois. His teenage years were spent in Tonganoxie and Lawrence, Kansas. He attended schools there and was raised by Duke and Elouise Evans.
On February 18, 1961, Rick married Mary Ann Daugherty in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They made Colorado Springs their home until 1972 when they moved to Thornton, Colorado. In 1974, Rick and Mary Ann moved to Brighton, Colorado, where they remained until 1989, moving to Northglenn, Colorado. In 2002, Cedaredge became their home.
Rick was a professional truck driver. Upon moving to Cedaredge he worked at the bus barn. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, camping, riding dirt bikes and four - wheeling. Rick also liked to spend time playing golf and water skiing.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ann of Cedaredge; one daughter, Kim and her husband Dewey Smeins of Carbondale, CO; two sisters: Beverleigh and her husband Bob Hurley of Oklahoma, Tracy and her husband Darryl Waggoner of Missouri; one sister - in - law, Elaine and her husband Bill Tangeman of Northglenn, CO. Rick is further survived by three granddaughters: Megan Cruz of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica and Nicole Smeins of Carbondale, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Kelly Janine Cruz in 1999.

Howard J. George
September 19, 1911 - June 19, 2004
HOTCHKISS - Lifelong Hotchkiss resident, Howard J. George, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at his residence in Hotchkiss, Colorado. He was 92.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford, Colorado. Hospice Chaplain, Tom Leach, will officiate.
Howard J. George was born on September 19, 1911 to William Leslie and Ida (Endsley) George at Canon City, Colorado. He spent his childhood in the Hotchkiss and Crawford areas where he also attended school.
On January 13, 1934, Howard married Dorothy M. Bishop in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She preceded him in death on September 26, 1993, in Hotchkiss.
Mr. George was a farmer and he did part time maintenance work at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss. He belonged to the North Fork Farmer’s Union and the North Fork Creamery Board. All who knew Howard around the area considered him to be one of the best farmers on Fruitland Mesa. Howard enjoyed gardening, camping, stream fishing, and being around his family and friends. He was always the happiest when he was working at something. No matter where you saw Howard he always had a favorite dog as his constant companion. He leaves his little dog Charlie behind.
Those grateful to have shared in Howard’s life include two sons: Stanley George and his wife Emma Faye of Crawford, CO, and Dale “Gabby” George and his wife Annie of Hotchkiss, CO. He is further survived by five grandchildren; thirteen great - grandchildren, and three great - great - grandchildren; and a large number of nephews and nieces.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; one brother, Everett George; two sisters: Helen McCabe and Margaret Jackson; and a granddaughter, Debbie George - Boyd.

Ula W. West
November 27, 1915 - June 17, 2004
PAONIA - Long time North Fork resident, Ula West, passed away at the Delta County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 17, 2004. She was 88.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia, Colorado. Reverend Dewayne Davis will officiate.
Ula W. Austin was born on November 27, 1915, to Sevelia B. and Grace Zona (Hall) Austin in Nowata, Oklahoma. The family moved to Paonia in 1924 where she spent her childhood. She attended school in Hotchkiss.
On December 5, 1936, Ula married Clell C. West in Delta, Colorado. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1997, in Paonia.
Ula, a homemaker, attended the Bible Center Church in Paonia. She belonged to the Sewing Club, The Bone Mesa Garden Club, and the Bell Creek Community Club. She enjoyed power walking, reading, writing, oil painting, storytelling, and quilting. Her family was very important to her and was her number one priority in all that she did.
Those grateful to have shared in Ula’s life include her son, Gilbert West and his wife Raffie of Taos, N.M; two daughters: LaVera Holt and her husband Deon of Paonia, CO, and Helen West - Schroeder and her husband Ron of Austin, CO; and two sisters BeeBe Townsend and her husband Emory of Hotchkiss, CO, and Robbie Tunks of Wilcox, AZ. She is further survived by eight grandchildren.
Ula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clell; two brothers: Jo Jack Austin, and S.E. Austin; and two sisters: Zula Bailey and Wanda Piche.

Ben J. Aragon
November 4, 1938 - June 15, 2004
DELTA - Lifetime Delta resident, Ben Aragon, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction. He was 65.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 17th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. A vigil service will be held on Thursday, June 17th at 7:30 p.m., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 18th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Bettinger will preside. Interment will follow at the Delta City Cemetery.
Benjamin J. Aragon was born on November 4, 1938 in Austin, Colorado to the late Toribio and Julia (Bustamante) Aragon. He spent his childhood in Austin and graduated from Delta High School.
On June 30, 1962, in Delta, Ben married Betty Espinoza. She survives.
Mr. Aragon had worked in Mt. Sopris Instruments in Delta. He also had worked for McGrath Dairy. Ben was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed working in his yard, and doing watch and small engine repair.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 42 years, Betty Aragon of Delta; one daughter and her husband, Teri and Tim Davis of Grand Junction; five sisters: Mabel Sanchez and husband Dale of Austin, CO, Mary Veir of Montrose, CO, Priscilla Leon and husband Ernest and Margie Rubalcaba and husband Joe all of Grand Junction and Rosie Abeyta and husband Milton of Questa, NM; five brothers: Vincent Aragon and wife Lida of Selma, CA, George Aragon and wife Linda of Grand Junction, Lucindo Aragon and wife Margaret of Albuquerque, NM, Firmin Aragon and wife Ida of Cedaredge, CO and Joe Aragon and wife Annie of Montrose, CO. He is further survived by four grandchildren: Clint Wilhelm III, Jonathan Davis and Scott Davis, all of Grand Junction and Matthew Davis of Clifton, CO.
Along with his parents, Ben was also preceded in death by one sister, Cecilia Tafoya.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
