Willard “Tony” Walkey
Jan. 29, 1921 - Nov. 24. 2004
CEDAREDGE - Longtime Cedaredge resident, Willard “Tony” Walkey, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at his home. He was 83 years of age.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 29th at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge. Pastor Dale Lovett will preside. Military honors will be performed by the V.F.W. Grand Mesa Post No. 9221. Interment will follow at the Cedaredge Cemetery.
Willard Anthony Walkey was born on January 29, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Anthony and Helen (Jeffries) Walkey. He spent his childhood in Chicago and graduated from Agency High School in Iowa. He continued his education attending I.T.T. in Chicago.
Willard enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, serving as a Captain during World War II.
On October 3, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, Willard was joined in marriage to Violet Schillerstrom. She survives. They have resided in Cedaredge for the past 25 years.
Mr. Walkey retired from IBM in 1979, after working as a Computer Planning Engineer for 33 years. His family referred to him as a “Craftsman of all Trades”, for he was able to do just about anything he set his mind to. His hobbies included anything that he could spend time in his garage doing. He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Cedaredge and the V.F.W. Grand Mesa Post No. 9221.
Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Violet Walkey of Cedaredge; two sons: Craig Walkey and wife Jane of Birchwood, WI and Drew Walkey of Cedaredge; one sister, Ruth Thurman of Paddock Lake, WI; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Walkey was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Christine Avila.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Robert “Denny” Hirschberg
March 12, 1945 - November 18, 2004
Delta - Delta resident, Robert Dennis “Denny” Hirschberg passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Willow Tree Care Center in Delta, Colorado. He was 59.
No services are planned at this time.
Denny was born on March 12, 1945 in Los Angeles, California to the late Robert Paul and Betty Lowrell (Jackson) Hirschberg. He spent his childhood and attended school in Los Angeles, CA. Denny moved to Delta, CO fifteen years ago.
Denny was a cook. He enjoyed art, being a rock hound and also enjoyed the company of his dog, Bear.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Hirschberg of CA; two brothers, Mark Hirschberg of Delta, CO and Gregory Wayne Hirschberg of CA; two sisters, Cheryel Jean Garcia and Lori Ann Hirschberg, both of CA. Denny is further survived by four nephews, Matthew Hirschberg and David, Paul and James Garcia; three nieces, Jessica Hirschberg, and Kelly and Angela Espinoza.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Nicholas Stimac
Sept. 12, 1913 - Nov. 15, 2004
CRAWFORD - Crawford resident, Nicholas Stimac, died Monday, November 15, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 91 years of age.
An Open House for Mr. Stimac is planned for Thursday, November 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service in Hotchkiss.
Nicholas S. Stimac was born on September 12, 1913, in Copper City, Michigan, to the late Nicholas and Antonia (Zager) Stimac. He spent his childhood and attended school on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
On October 10, 1932, at Calumet, Michigan’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nicholas married the love of his life, Francesca Pozek. They had been married for 63 years when she passed away in 1996.
At the age of ten, Nicholas began working odd jobs and never really stopped. He worked in a copper mine in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the WPA during the depression until a job at a copper mine in Jerome, Arizona became available. He took a chance and moved his family 3,000 miles from home. After three years, he moved them back to Detroit, Michigan, where he did several different jobs until he began his career installing heating and air conditioning in the sheet metal industry. He moved his family to California in 1959, where they remained until his retirement in the 70’s. Upon retirement, the Whites traveled extensively and settled in several places. When Francis passed away, he moved to Colorado to live with his daughter, Patricia.
Mr. Stimac lived his life to the fullest. He had a sensational work ethic and did not tolerate laziness. He was known for his great sense of humor and his desire for justice. He was an avid newpaper reader and enjoyed hockey games, baseball games, dancing and playing the piano and singing. He was an avid tobacco chewer and did so until his death. He was devoted to his family and even considered his nieces and nephews his children. His kindness and generosity were abundant. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include three daughters: Pauline Roberts and husband Arnold of Tacoma, WA, Cathern DeSlover of Coursegold, CA and Patricia Ricke and husband Michael of Crawford; and one son, Robert Stimac and wife Shirley of Vale, OR. He is further survived by 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by one son, Nicholas G. Stimac; five brothers, Jack, Paul, Albert, Steve and Joseph; three sisters, Jennie, Antoinette and Elizabeth; one grandson, David; two great grandchildren, Melissa and Joseph and one great great grandchild, Damian.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Edgar H. White
April 20, 1925 - November 13, 2004
DELTA - Delta resident, Edgar H. White, died Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. He was 79 years of age.
A funeral service is scheduled for
10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17th at the Delta First Church of God. Pastor Tommy Grimes will officiate. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction. The Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard will perform military honors.
Edgar Harrison White was born on April 20, 1925, in Burr Oak, Kansas, to the late Jesse Harrison and Nettie Ellen (Rhoe) White. He spent his childhood and graduated from high school in Burr Oak. Following graduation, Edgar enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II as a Private First Class. During his military service he was awarded an American Theater Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal and an EAME Theater Ribbon with four bronze stars.
On December 21, 1950, in Denver, Colorado, Edgar married Glenna Smith. She survives. During their life together they resided in Eckert and Pueblo, Colorado. They returned to Delta County in 1997.
Mr. White retired in 1986 from the United States Department of Treasury where he worked as a Technician in the United States Mint for 26 years. He was a member of the Delta First Church of God and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. His interests included reading and anything mechanical, especially cars, balances and compasses.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 54 years, Glenna S. White of Delta, CO; and one daughter, Ellen Kay Rempel and husband Daniel of McCook, NB. He is further survived by four grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren and two nephews and their spouses.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by four sisters and one brother: Ethel Turner, Pearl Nansel, Lydia Boyd, June House and Charlie White.
Memorial contributions may be made to Delta First Church of God, 1102 Howard St., Delta, CO 81416.

Blaine E. Dwinelle
Dec. 31, 1914 - Nov. 12, 2004
CORY - Longtime Cory, Colorado resident, Blaine E. Dwinelle, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert, Colorado. He was 89 years of age.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 15th at the Cory Cemetery. Art Wolverton will preside.
Blaine Edgar Dwinell was born on December 31, 1914 in Loveland, Colorado to the late Fred and Ora (Chancellor) Dwinelle. He spent his childhood in Loveland and graduated from high school there in 1933.
On July 29, 1940, in Loveland, Blaine married Angeline Heywood. She preceded him in death on August 27, 1992, in Cory, Colorado. On March 10, 1993 in Eckert, He was joined in marriage to Christine Austin. She survives.
Mr. Dwinelle lived in Boulder, Colorado for thirty years before moving to Cory twenty nine years ago. He retired in 2002 after being a self employed heavy equipment operator, working in the excavation business for seventy years. He was a former Board Member for Butte and Fogg Ditches. His interests included woodworking and model trains.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Dwinelle of Cory; three daughters, Elizabeth Johnson and husband John of Powell, WY, Sharon Erickson and husband James of Austin, CO and Mary Melton and husband Fred of Centerville, UT. He is further survived by two grandchildren, Heather Melton and Ivy Melton - Sales and one great grandson, James Sales.
Along with his parents and his first wife, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Paul V. Dwinelle and one sister, Jean Hunt.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Patricia A. Minor
August 29, 1936 - November 8, 2004
ECKERT - Longtime Delta County resident, Patricia A. Minor, died on Monday, November 8, 2004, at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert, Colorado. She was 68 years of age.
A private memorial service will be held on Grand Mesa at a later date.
Patricia A. Culver was born on August 29, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Everett and Thelma (Ackerson) Culver. She spent her early childhood in Fort Dodge, then the family moved to Delta County Colorado where she attended Stewart Mesa School in Paonia.
On June 11, 1975, in Miami, Oklahoma, Patricia married John Minor. He survives.
Mrs. Minor was a homemaker. She was a volunteer for the Association for Retarded Citizens for over 20 years. She attended the Southern Baptist Church in Cedaredge. Her interests included reading, sewing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, John Minor of Eckert, CO; her mother, Thelma Harvey of Delta, CO; four daughters: Jean Sellers and husband Dave of Elko, NV, Jane Gardner and husband Darrell of Phoenix, AZ, Jacquie Lubbert of Warsaw, MO, and Rabbit of Carbondale, CO; two sons: John Lubbert of Grand Junction, and Grant Minor of Carbondale, CO; two brothers: Ron Culver of Glendale, CA, and Rob Culver and wife Cheryl of Whiteman Air Force Base, MO; two sisters: Sharon Call and husband David of Fortuna, MO, and Jo Wright of Boulder, CO; two uncles: Lucky Culver and wife Doris of Somers, IA, and Paul Culver of Fort Dodge, IA. She is further survived by eight grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
Mrs. Minor was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Marge King.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Blanche N. Gallemore
December 2, 1910 - November 7, 2004
DELTA - Delta resident, Blanche N. Gallemore, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe, Colorado. She was 93 years old.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004, at Valley Lawns Cemetery in Montrose, Colorado.
Blanche N. McClanahan was born on December 2, 1910, to Tecumsey C. and Rebecca A. (Barr) McClanahan in Manes Missouri. She spent her early childhood in Olathe, Colorado, and attended school there. She graduated from Cedaredge High School. Blanche spent most of her life in Montrose County before moving to Delta three years ago to be closer to her daughter.
Blanche married Kenneth Richard Gallemore on September 20, 1929, in Montrose, Colorado. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1990 in Montrose.
Mrs. Gallemore was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Seventh - day Adventist Church in Delta. Blanche belonged to the Cedaredge Order of Eastern Star Spruce Chapter # 129 and the Cedaredge Elberta Rebekah Lodge #106. She helped to organize the volunteer program at the Montrose Hospital and volunteered there for over eighteen years.
Among her many interests were bowling, knitting, and playing bridge. As a mother she took pride in the fact that she made her children’s clothes and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, especially raising beautiful roses. The greatest love of her life was her grandchildren, great - grandchildren, and great - great - grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in Blanche’s life include her two daughters: Charlene Cox of Tucson, AZ, and Maxine London of Delta, CO; and a sister, Maxcine Rowan of Montrose, CO. She is further survived by four grandchildren, seven great - grandchildren, three great - great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; five brothers; and four sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made in Blanche’s name to Colorow Care Center, P.O. Box 710, Olathe, CO 81425.

Joan M. Tyler
December 31, 1930 - November 5, 2004
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Joan M. Tyler, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2004 at her residence. She was 73.
Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Monday, November 8th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta, Colorado. The rosary will be led by Tom Fedler and Rob Schmalz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 9th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Bettinger and Rev. Nathanael Foshage will preside.
Private graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 9th at the Delta City Cemetery with Rev. Nathanael Foshage officiating.
Joan Margaret Sterk was born on December 31, 1930, to Peter M. and Katherine Margaret “Kay” (Gallowich) Sterk in Crested Butte, Colorado. She spent her childhood in Crested Butte and graduated from Gunnison High School. She lived in Gunnison, Colorado, before moving to Delta in 1950.
Joan married James J. “Jimmie” Tyler, Jr. on June 12, 1948, in Gunnison, Colorado. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1992, in Delta.
A realtor since 1980, Joan has received many top awards, including top salesperson for several years with ReMax Reality. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta and served on the Parish Council. She belonged to the Delta Altrusa Club and the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce where she had been a board member for the past nine years. Joan served as secretary for the Delta County Democratic Party for many, many years.
She also belonged to the Delta County Board of Realtors and the Delta City Planning Commission. Joan was an avid Denver Bronco and John Elway fan. She loved to travel and when possible go to different casinos to enjoy a night of gambling. She also loved the time that she and her family spent at their cabin on Grand Mesa.
Those grateful to have shared in Joan’s life include four daughters: Terry K. and her husband Terry Morris of Ft. Wayne, IN, Pam and her husband John Braddy of Redwing, MN, Sue Bruner of Delta, CO, and Lauri and her husband Ken Hoefner of Cedaredge, CO; a brother, John P. Sterk and his wife Nancy of Rush City, MN; and a sister, Patricia Coleman of Pueblo, CO. She is further survived by six grandchildren and four great - grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jimmie Tyler.
