Fred Dawson
July 15, 1922 - October 2, 2004
ECKERT - Longtime Delta County resident, Fred Dawson, died Saturday, October 2, 2004, at his home in Eckert, Colorado. He was 82 years old.
Private services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
Fred Dawson was born on July 15, 1922, in Batesville, Arkansas, to the late Fred and Ottie (Jones) Dawson. He spent his childhood in Batesville and in Hoxie, Arkansas, attending school in Hoxie. Fred served his country in the United States Army during World War II, earning several medals.
Fred married Ruth Ann Tight on April 6, 1966, in Rockford, Illinois. She survives. Fred and Ruth moved to Delta County 29 years ago.
Mr. Dawson retired in 1979, after spending several years as a millright mechanic. He was a ten year member of the Peach Belt I.O.O.F. Lodge #149 and a Past Noble Grand. His interests included hunting, fishing and home repairs.
Survivors include his wife of over 38 years, Ruth Dawson of Eckert, CO; one daughter, Mary O. Maggio and husband Sam of Rockford, IL; one daughter - in - law, Maureen Dawson of Arvada, CO; and one sister - in - law, Lorene Dawson of Rockford, IL. He is further survived by two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Raymond Dawson, three brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Rolland E. Husted
July 20, 1919 - September 30, 2004
CEDAREDGE - Longtime Cedaredge resident, Rolland Husted, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 85 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church in Cedaredge, CO with Pastor Dale Lovett and Rev. Bill Kastning officiating. Interment will take place at Cedaredge Cemetery Graveside services will be conducted by members of Peach Belt I.O.O.F #149.
Rolland Earl Husted was born on July 20, 1919, to Herbert “Pete” and Fern Frances (Reeves) Husted in Cedaredge, Colorado. He spent his childhood and attended school in Cedaredge, Colorado.
Rolland married Dama Jean Schulte on December 24, 1943. The couple had two sons, Rolland Dennis Husted and Donald Eugene Husted. They were married 49 years before she passed away in Delta Colorado on January 8, 1992. Rolland later married Marge Bertram on November 9, 1995 at Rifle Colorado. He told his granddaughter just the other day that he had been a very lucky man to have had two very special women in his life. One of the things he was most proud of was the fact that he served in the Army three different times. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and the Odd Fellows.
Rolland worked in both the Green Valley and Red Canyon coal mines as well as driving truck for Palmer and Company Fruit in the Cedaredge area. He then went to work for Delta County and then later for the State of Colorado as a highway maintenance worker, driving the snowplow on Grand Mesa. He retired from the State in 1981 after 23 years of service.
Rolland is survived by his second wife Marge, his son Dennis Husted of Paonia, CO; his son and daughter in law Don and Dorothy Husted of Paonia,CO; four grandchildren, Rolinda Smith and Rick of Paonia, CO; Robert Husted and Karla Griswold of New Castle, CO; Ricky Husted and Kristen of Hotchkiss, CO; Mandi Rountree of Eckert, CO; and Kirstin Husted of Paonia, CO, ten great grandchildren, Michael Smith of Jamestown, ND; Jonathan Smith and Trevor Smith of Paonia, CO; Megan Husted of Tucson, AZ; Austin Husted of New Castle, CO; Cassidy Husted of Grand Junction, CO; Analis Trimmer and Brenten Husted of Hotchkiss, CO and Clayton and Cierra Rountree of Eckert, CO. Rolland is further survived by an extended step family, Bruce and Myrna Bertram and Vern and Connie Frost all of Cedaredge, CO; four step grandchildren, Mindi and Chad Isamin of Cedaredge, CO; Grant and Laressa Frost of Grand Junction, CO; Yvonne and Preston Simmons of Cedaredge, CO; and Celeste and J.R. Brooks of Aurora, CO; five step great grandchildren, Alyssa, Mariah, and Emmilee Isamin and Jeffery Chadwick all of Cedaredge, CO and Sidney Brooks of Aurora, CO.
Rolland was preceded in death by both his parents, his first wife Jean Husted, one daughter in law Diana Husted, a sister and brother in law Thelma and J.W. Weaver.
His family was his greatest joy in life. He was proud of each accomplishment of all the grandkids. He and Marge spent most of their spare time going to every child’s activities including baseball, softball, basketball, football, and soccer games, tennis matches, rodeos, gymnastics, band contests, school concerts, and anything else that the kids were involved in. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Roy L. Faries
May 6, 1921 - September 27, 2004
DELTA - Longtime Delta county resident, Roy Faries, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2004, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 83 years old.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2004, at the Assembly of God in Delta with Pastor Lee Ponder officiating. Services will conclude at the church.
Roy Lee Faries was born on May 6, 1921, to Archie and Edith (Holmes) Faries in Olathe, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Coal Creek west of Olathe and attended the Fairview School. Roy joined the United States Army and served his country for thirty - nine months of duty during World War II.
On June 1, 1946, Roy married Vera Randles in Liberal, Kansas. They celebrated fifty - eight years together this past June. She survives.
Roy was employed by Delta County for a total of twenty - nine years. He served as the Delta County Clerk and Recorder and also worked for the Road and Bridge Department. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Delta. He enjoyed restoring tractors and after retiring, he worked for local farmers where he found great joy in driving the tractors in the fields.
Those grateful to have shared in Roy’s life include his wife, Vera Faries of Delta, CO; two sons: Dean Faries of Delta, CO and Dan Faries of Denver, CO; two brothers: Joe Faries and his wife Janice of Austin, TX and David Faries and his wife Donna of Olathe, CO; a brother and sister - in - law, Dean and Doris Randles of Canton, OK; two sisters - in - law: Bess Randles of Hardesty, OK and Goldie Stump of Guymon, OK. He is further survived by one granddaughter, Kitra Willmes and her husband Jason of Hastings, NE.
Memorial contributions may be made in Roy’s memory to the American Heart Association, Delta County Chapter, P.O. Box 474, Grand Junction, CO 81502

Delmar Singleton
June 1, 1921 - September 24, 2004
DELTA - Delta resident, Delmar Singleton, died Friday, September 24, 2004, at his home. He was 83 years old.
A visitation for family and friends is planned for Monday, September 27th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 30th at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah. Pastor Dean Jackson will preside.
Delmar Singleton was born on June 1, 1921, in Springville, Utah, to the late John Herbert and Ruvina Jane (Silver) Singleton. He spent his childhood in Springville and graduated from Springville High School.
On October 6, 1956, Del married Nettie Fay McCloud in Ely, Nevada. They had lived in Nevada until June of 1996, when they moved to Delta. She preceded him in death on August 1, 1996, in Delta.
Mr. Singleton worked as a laborer in the construction business. He attended the Maranatha Fellowship Church in Delta. He enjoyed farming.
Survivors include three sons: Truman Hood and wife Majel of Mesquite, NV, Chester Hood and wife Jane of Phoenix, AZ and David Hood and wife Nila of Payson, UT. He is further survived by ten grandchildren, twenty - four great grandchildren, seven great - great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, one grandson and one granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Nellie Zachry, 920 SE 3rd St., Cedaredge, CO 81413.

Irene McCarley
Nov. 14, 1914 - Sept. 25, 2004
ECKERT - Eckert resident, Irene McCarley died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was 89 years old.
A visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, September 28th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge followed by a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at the Cedaredge Cemetery. Tom Peterson will preside.
Minnie Irene Thomas was born on November 14, 1914 in Madisonville, Tennessee to the late Robert and Cora (Bivins) Thomas. She was raised a Quaker and spent her childhood in Madisonville and graduated high school there. She continued her education at Gillford College in Eastern Tennessee. She earned a teachers certificate and began teaching in country schools at the early age of 18. She continued her teaching career in Katron County, New Mexico and then in 1954 she moved to Albuquerque, where she taught in the public school system. Following retirement in 1980, Irene moved to Delta County, Colorado where she resided for the remainder of her life.
In later life, Irene attended the Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the Pythian Sisters. Besides teaching, her other interests included gardening, sewing, hiking and the outdoors.
Survivors include one son: Charlie Doles and wife Linda of Cedaredge and one daughter, Barbara Cook of Eckert. She is further survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great - great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Doles, her second husband W.A. McCarley, one son, Robert Doles and one brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Boys & Girls Ranch, Boys Ranch, NM 87002 - 9989 or to Alzheimer’s Association, 761 Rood Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.

Elna Marina Dowell
Aug. 31, 1934 - Sept. 23, 1904
HOTCHKISS - Longtime Delta county resident, Elna Marina Dowell, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at her daughter’s home in Hotchkiss. She was 70 years old.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 29th at the Austin Baptist Church in Austin, Colorado. Pastor Robert Watts will preside. Services will conclude at the church.
Elna Marina Graham was born on August 31, 1934 on Rogers Mesa, Colorado to the late Jessup S. and Edna (Patrick) Graham. She spent her childhood in Lazear and attended school in Lazear and Hotchkiss. Her interests included reading, camping and crocheting.
Survivors include three sons: James Dowell and wife Ramona of Austin, Raymond Dowell and wife Dee of Delta and Royden Dowell of Hotchkiss; one daughter, Linda Welch and husband Drake of Hotchkiss; one brother, Jim Graham and wife Wanda of Whitewater, CO; two sisters Beulah Harris of Tacoma, WA and Jane Patterson of Denver. She is further survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Thomas L. Gage
March 29, 1945 - September 23, 2004
OLATHE - Olathe resident, Thomas L. Gage, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the Montrose Memorial Hospital as the result of an automobile accident. He was 59.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at the Delta City Cemetery with Rev. Roger Odegard officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Lee Marts V.F.W. Lodge No. 3571.
Thomas Larry Gage was born on March 29, 1945, to Thomas Larry and Christine Mattie (Giles) Gage in Berryville, Arkansas. He spent his childhood in Salinas, California, and also attended school there. He had lived in the Delta and Montrose area since 1997. He had resided in Olathe since 1999.
Tom married Myrtle Evonne Dennis on May 2, 1972, in Carson City, Nevada. They had celebrated thirty - two years of marriage. She survives.
Mr. Gage had served his country in the United States Marines as a Lance Corporal. He spent sixteen months in Vietnam. After leaving the service he worked as a millwright mechanic for many years. Tom enjoyed building hot rods and fixing up cars, racing, fishing, and making everything in his yard pretty for all to enjoy as they went by. The greatest joy of his life was his two grand babies.
Those grateful to have shared in Thomas’s life include his wife, Evonne Gage of Olathe, CO; a son, Thomas Larry Gage, Jr. of Salinas, CA; three daughters: Regina Marie Gage of Salinas, CA, Melissa Ileene Gage of Olathe, CO, and Dorothy Christine Gage of Gardena, CA; his mother, Christine White of Carson City, NV; two brothers: Michael Keith Gage, and Jerry Emanuel White both of Clear Lake, CA; five sisters: Elgenia Gage of Clear Lake, CA, Christine Seydel and her husband George of Santa Clarita, CA, and Debbie McCarthy and her husband Steve of Marysville, CA, Diane Hibbs and her husband Bill of McGill, NV, and Margaret Roullard and her husband Geoff of Reno, NV. Tom is further survived by his two grandchildren: Miranda Evonne Rea and Anthony Thomas Gage; and he was very close to his wife’s brothers and sisters and their family members; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great - great nieces and nephews, whom he enjoyed immensely.
He was preceded in death by his step - father, Bing E. White.

Woody Goddard
Oct. 28, 1917 - Sept. 21, 2004
HOTCHKISS - Hotchkiss resident, Woody Goddard, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at his residence. He was 86 years old.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 24th at the North Fork Baptist Church in Paonia. Pastor Del Hampton and Dr. Bill Bouchillon will preside. Services will conclude at the church.
P. Woodrow Goddard was born on October 28, 1917, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, to the late C. Austin and Lou Rena (Tate) Goddard. He spent his childhood and attended school in Holly Creek, Oklahoma.
On December 31, 1941, in Bentonville, Arkansas, Woody married Alice Netherton. She survives.
In 1942, Woody joined the U.S. Army where he proudly served during World War II. Woody was awarded a Purple Heart and several other service medals. He and Alice lived in Alturas, California from 1947 to 1955. They then moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where they remained until 1958. The Goddards then returned to California, living in Susanville. In 1991, they made Hotchkiss, Colorado their home.
Mr. Goddard was a self employed petroleum distributor. He was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church. His family and church life were very important to him in every community in which he lived. Woody was also a member of the V.F.W. in Alturas, CA, the Elks and Rotary Clubs in Susanville, CA, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Posse, and the Modoc Tribe Riders. He was also a member of three horse clubs: PPHRNA, AAOBPPH and WCPPHC. His interests included raising Peruvian Paso horses, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and water skiing.
Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Alice Goddard of Hotchkiss; three sons: Phil Goddard of Eagle Lake, CA, Gary Goddard and wife Sue of Gabbs, NV, and Dan Goddard and wife Gail of Hotchkiss; one daughter, Gail Deal and husband Rocky of Susanville, CA; and two sisters: Jean Birkes and husband Pete of Choteau, OK and Mary Marsh and husband Paul of Rogers, AR.
Woody is further survived by seven grandchildren: Tamara Goddard, Philip “Chip” Goddard and wife Penny, Katie Deal, Becca Deal, Matt Deal, Jill Goddard and Julie Goddard.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert, Hugh and Kenneth Goddard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 669, Paonia, CO 81428

Christine Donnel
July 12, 1912 - September 20, 2004
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Christine Donnel, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2004, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 92 years old.
Services are pending at Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory. Services will also be held at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes in Sacramento, California.
Mary Christine Marsh was born on July 12, 1912, to John Robert and Flora May (Bourne) Marsh in House, New Mexico. She spent her childhood in House and also Farmington, New Mexico. She moved to Delta, Colorado, in 1942, and then to Sacramento, California, in the early 1950’s. Christine returned to Delta in the early 1970’s, where she has made her home since that time.
Christine married Willie Wess Donnel on September 15, 1927, in Farwell, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1977, in Delta.
Mrs. Donnel was employed by the California School District as a cook. She was a member of the Nazarene Church, and had attended the Church of God in Delta. Christine enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and working at her church volunteering. Her greatest love was her family and her grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in Christine’s life include two sons: R.D. Donnel and his wife Trudy of Sacramento, CA, and Eugene Donnel and his wife Lyte of Rockland, CA; two daughters: Eula (Tabor) Cooper of Delta, CO, and Erma (Tabor) Brown of Murphyburrow, TN; four brothers: William Marsh and his wife Ramona of OK, Archie Marsh and his wife Helen of Prescott, AZ, Murl Marsh and his wife Freda and Earl Marsh and his wife Esther all of Delta, CO; two sisters: Marie Ritthaler and Fronia Taylor and her husband Ed all of Delta, CO. She is further survived by fifteen grandchildren and numerous great - grandchildren and great - great - granchildren.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Donnel; a daughter, Mary Evelyn; and a son, Al Donnel.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
