Michael A. Burkhardt

His Life, Joy, Love: Family

Sept. 17, 1955 - Sept. 15, 2000

MONTROSE - Michael A. Burkhardt, age 44, of Montrose, died Friday evening, Sept. 15, 2000, in the V.A. Hospital at Grand Junction, just two days before he would have celebrated his 45th birthday.

Michael A. Burkhardt was born in Grand Junction, Colo., on Sept. 17, 1955, the son of Elmer R. and JoAnn L. (Workman) Burkhardt. He spent his childhood in Arizona until he was 11-years-old and then moved with his family to Montrose. He lived a short time in Brush, Colo., and Montrose had been his home until the time of his death.

He worked for driller riggs and a manufacturing company while living in Brush and was employed with temporary services in Montrose.

Michael's life, joys, and loves were his family, nature and the great outdoors, including animals, fishing, and camping. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his two children: Angel and Candice Walker; his mother, JoAnn L. and husband Owen Vaughn; two brothers: Bob Burkhardt and Tom Vaughn and wife Becky, all of Montrose; one sister, Cindy and husband Larry Stieb, of Fort Morgan; a special niece, Joy Dawn Burkhardt, of the family home in Montrose; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Elmer R. Burkhardt.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Michael's life will be officiated by Pastor Mike Lundberg on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Grand View Cemetery west of Montrose.

Memorial contributions may be made to: V.A. Hospital & Medical Center, In Memory of Michael Burkhardt, 2121 North Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.

AE2 Ronald Edward Hinchey USN

Loved Anything Outdoors

Nov. 17, 1975 - Dec. 10, 1999

HOTCHKISS - AE2 Ronald Edward Hinchey USN, age 24, serving in the United States Navy and stationed at Whidbey Island, Wash., for six months, died in a snowboarding accident on Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Mt. Baker, Wash. He was recovered Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000.

Ronald Edward Hinchey, the son of Ronald and Donna (Leaty) Hinchey, was born on Nov. 17, 1975, in Scottsville, N.Y., where he spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood.

Ronald went into the U.S. Navy in 1994 where he served his country until the time of his death.

He was joined in marriage to Ann Marie Ware on June 1, 1995, at Parker, Ariz.

The loves in Ronald's 24 years of life that brought him happiness were anything outdoors, especially snowboarding, diving, fishing, and camping.

Survivors grateful to share his life include his wife, Ann Marie Hinchey; one son, Zachary Tyler Hinchey; and one daughter, Michaela Faith Hinchey, all of Hotchkiss.

Other family survivors include his mother, Donna Allen, of Tampa, Fla.; his father, Ronald Hinchey, of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Tracy and husband Danny Foster, of Avon, N.Y.; his grandparents: Ronald C. Hinchey; Barbara Mallette, both of Henrietta, N.Y.; and his great-grandmother, Dorothy Rose, also of Henrietta, N.Y.

Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Ronald's life will be officiated by Pastor Judi Taylor on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Riverside Cemetery, with Full Military Honors being conducted by the United States Navy.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Children's Hospital, In Memory of Ronald E. Hinchey, 1129 East 17th Ave., Denver, CO 80218.

Melody Jean Laughlin

An Excellent Pianist

Sept. 1, 1945 - Sept. 16, 2000

CORY - Melody Jean Laughlin, a resident of Cory since 1996, died of a lengthy illness Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2000, at her home in Cory, 15 days after celebrating her 55th birthday.

Melody Jean Thompson, the daughter of Earl and Maxine (Thrasher) Thompson, was born on Sept. 1, 1945, at Independence, Mo. She spent her early childhood years around Independence and Jacksonville, Mo., and her teenage years in Durango, where she graduated from high school. She continued her education at Denver Business College in Denver where she earned a Paralegal degree and a Purchasing/ Management degree.

Melody was employed as a senior buyer for Ametek-Dixson.

In July of 1993, Melody married Carvel Eugene "Gene" Laughlin at the Chapel of Bar D Chuckwagon at Durango. Both of Melody's previous marriages ended in divorce.

She was a member of a Protestant church group at Bill and Leona Hamilton's home in Cedaredge.

Melody was a member of the National Purchasing Association.

Her passion in life was the piano and she was an excellent pianist. Melody also found enjoyment and happiness in fishing, hunting, traveling, and photography. Her death has left an unwanted emptiness in the lives of all who knew and loved her and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Carvel Eugene "Gene" Laughlin, of Cory, one son, Charles Wayne Aspermonte; one daughter, Danielle Rae and husband Johnny Procell, all of Karnack, Texas; one precious granddaughter, Megan Procell; and one brother, Bob Thompson, of Silver City, N.M.

Melody was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Melody's life will be officiated by Bill Hamilton on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. at 1573 Highway 65 in Cedaredge.

Betty June Sherman

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother

Feb. 27, 1931 - Sept. 17, 2000

OLATHE - Betty June Sherman, age 69, a resident of Olathe since 1972, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2000, at her home in Olathe.

Betty June Luellen, the oldest daughter of Forest C. and Cora Maudie (Been) Luellen, was born on Feb. 27, 1931, at the coal mine town of Mt. Harris, Routte County, Colo., where she spent her childhood and attended school until she moved with her family to the Denver area. She graduated from high school in Douglas County at Castle Rock, Colo., in 1948.

Betty was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Leonard "Zeke" Sherman on Oct. 13, 1951, in Castle Rock, Colo. They were the parents of two children and were privileged to share 48 years of marriage.

The Shermans established their home in Douglas County where they raised their two children. In 1972, they moved to Olathe where they made their home until the time of Betty's death.

She joined Martha Chapter No. 135, Order of the Eastern Star in Castle Rock in 1948 and received her 50-year pin last year.

Betty was also a charter member of Larkspur and Olathe Bunko Clubs.

Survivors very grateful to share Betty's life include her husband, Leonard "Zeke" Sherman; one son, Robert Sherman, both of Olathe; one daughter, Marsha and husband Ernie Bryant; and one precious granddaughter, Erin, all of Larkspur.

Other family survivors include one brother, Bill Luellen and family, of Olathe; and four sisters: Donna Eidson and family, of Englewood; Bonnie Reichen and family, of Larkspur; Sherrie Cooper and family, of Olathe; and Gwen Luellen and family, of Denver.

Betty was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m., using the Main St. entrance, at the Crippin Funeral Home.

Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Betty's life will be officiated by Minister Don Carney on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Olathe Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Alpine Home Health, In Memory of Betty Sherman, 843 S. 3rd St., Montrose, CO 81401 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Carol A. Thielman

Loved Life, Family, Outdoors

Aug. 7, 1938 - Sept. 15, 2000

MONTROSE - Former Olathe resident, Carol A. Thielman, age 62, died of cancer Friday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2000, at her home in Montrose.

Carol A. Hackman was born in Denver, Colo., on Aug. 7, 1938, the daughter of Richard M. and Helen (Grobecker) Hackman. The family moved from Denver to Montrose when she was a young child, where she spent her childhood, received her education, and grew to adulthood.

In 1955, Carol married Vernon Roberts. After their marriage, they moved to the Dry Creek Basin area in San Miguel County where they remained until 1977. The Roberts family then moved to Olathe where they lived until Vernon's death on May 12, 1984, in Grand Junction. Carol and Vernon had shared 29 years together at the time of his death.

On May 27, 1985, Carol was joined in marriage to Jim "Bob" Thielman in Las Vegas, Nev. After her marriage to Bob, they moved to Montrose where they made their home until the time of her death. Carol and Bob celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary this year in May.

Carol drove a school bus for many years and when she moved to Olathe she was employed with C & C Auto Parts until her retirement. Following her retirement, Carol went to work for Wal-Mart as a shoe department manager where she was employed for 12 years until the time of her death.

Carol was an easy going individual who loved life, as well as the outdoors - especially fishing. She greatly enjoyed gambling, meeting people, baseball, and football. Her favorite teams were the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos. Above all, the joy of Carol's life was her family, grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews who called her "Grandma."

Survivors very grateful to share Carol's life include her mother, Helen Hackman; her husband, Bob Thielman; one son, Robby Roberts and wife Deborah, all of Montrose; one daughter, Kathy and husband Reginald Quinn, of Lafayette, La.; and five precious grandchildren: Angela and Travise Miller; and Waco, Shelby, and RW Ehart.

Along with her first husband, Vernon, Carol was also preceded in death by her father, Richard "Rich" Hackman, who died in 1985; one son, William Henry Roberts; and one brother, Richard "Dick" Hackman.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Carol's life will be officiated by Youth Minister Doug Anderson on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Montrose Christian Church.

Interment will follow the service in the Valley Lawns Cemetery south of Montrose.

Helen Alice Babcock

Enjoyed Caring For Others

Dec. 23, 1908 Sept. 9, 2000

ARVADA - Former Montrose resident, Helen Alice Babcock, age 91, died Saturday evening, Sept. 9, 2000, at her home in Arvada.

Helen Alice Bradshaw, the daughter of James Bradshaw and Mary Ida (Barnett) Bradshaw, was born on Dec. 23, 1908, in Pittsburg, Kan. When Helen was 9 months old she moved with her family to Paonia and received her education and grew to adulthood in the North Fork Valley. She graduated from the Delta High School and continued to further her education at Ross Business School in Grand Junction.

After completing her education, Helen moved to Montrose where she met and then married J.M. Babcock on April 15, 1933. After their marriage, Helen and J.M. established their home in Montrose where J.M. pursued mining, logging, and farming. They later lived in Uravan, Ridgway, and Durango.

In 1950 the Babcock family moved to California where they resided until 1962 when they moved to Lakewood to join J.M.'s brother in the operation of a care center for the elderly.

In addition to being a homemaker, Helen owned and operated the Babcock Boarding Rest Home in Lakewood. She was a caregiver as well as the facility's seamstress, something that she enjoyed very much.

J.M. preceded Helen in death on March 24, 1978, in Arvada, Colo.

She was a longtime member of the Arvada Baptist Church.

Along with enjoying being a seamstress, Helen also enjoyed and found happiness in caring for others, and taking care of her children and grandchildren. Besides her church and family activities, Helen loved to travel with her family especially in the Colorado mountains in the fall.

Survivors very grateful to share Helen's life include one son, Clayton Babcock, of Arvada; two daughters: Ruth Cowan, of Wheat Ridge; Carol Babcock, of Arvada; seven precious grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was one of eight brothers and sisters and is survived by only one sister, Ella Lee, of Delta.

Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Helen's life were officiated by Pastor Barry Layne on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Arvada Baptist Church. The service concluded at the church.

Interment was held on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 11:30 a.m. in the Grand View Cemetery west of Montrose.

Local arrangements were handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home; (970) 249-4400.

Marie Dilworth Revoir

Former Montrose Resident

June 3, 1919 - Aug. 10, 2000

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Marie Dilworth Revoir, age 81, died after a brief illness Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Santa Rosa, Calif.

Marie Dilworth, the daughter of Leslie and Augusta Dilworth, was born on June 3, 1919, in Fletcher, Okla. Marie was very young when she moved from Oklahoma to Montrose with her family. She spent her childhood in Montrose, where she graduated from Montrose County High School with the class of 1937, and grew to adulthood here. During high school, she was active in band and chorus. She continued her education at Colorado Woman's College in Denver.

After college, Marie was employed in Denver where she married Clyde Revoir of Montrose on Aug. 5, 1944. They returned to Montrose where they established their home and Marie worked for Superintendent Harry V. Foster at the Montrose County High School.

Marie lived in Montrose until age 32.

Prior to her retirement, Marie was employed with the Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, Calif., where she worked with international students as well as being secretary to the Registrar.

Clyde preceded Marie in death on Jan. 9, 1975, in Santa Rosa, Calif.

She was an member of the First United Methodist Church for 80 years. While living in Montrose, she enjoyed playing the organ at the Montrose United Methodist Church.

Among the many loves in Marie's life were her family, genealogy, traveling, and above all, music. She will be fondly remember for faithfully keeping up her correspondence, being a very caring person, and setting a good example. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors very grateful to share Marie's life include two daughters: Janet Revoir and Nancy Lyle; three precious grandchildren: Shaun, Jennifer, Amanda and one great-grandson, Christopher.

Other family survivors include one sister, Ruby Stone, of Grand Junction, formerly of Montrose; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Phyllis Dilworth, a cousin, of Montrose.

Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Marie's life were officiated on Saturday, Aug. 19, a 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1551 Montgomery Dr., in Santa Rosa, Calif. The service concluded at the church.

Inurnment will be held in Montrose at a later date.
