Harry Vern Crippin
One of a Kind!
Jan. 16, 1926 - March 18, 2001

MESQUITE, Nev. - Former Montrose resident and founder of Crippin Funeral Home, Harry Vern Crippin, age 75, died Sunday afternoon, March 18, 2001, in his home at Mesquite, Nev.
Harry Vern Crippin, the son of Clyde Crippin and Gertrude (Giesbrecht) Crippin, was born on Jan. 16, 1926, in Pocatello, Idaho. He spent his childhood years in Idaho, and graduated from high school in Aberdeen, Idaho, where he grew to adulthood. He was also baptized and raised in the Mennonite Church in Aberdeen. Harry continued to pursue his education completing two years of pre-med at Bethel Christian Bible College in Wheaton, Kan., and graduated from the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles in 1952.
Harry proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.
He was a funeral director - mortician and lived in Idaho, California, Arizona, Oregon, and Colorado - establishing funeral homes in all of these states.
Later in his life, Harry married Wilma Jacobsen.
He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion, and belonged to Boy Scouts at an early age.
The main focus of Harry's life was his family, golfing, and fishing - especially salmon fishing with his three sons. Harry holds the course record at American Falls, Idaho, Golf Course.
There was only one Harry. What a colorful man! He very much enjoyed his golfing buddies, was always very dedicated to the families he served, and very musically inclined.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Harry's life include his wife, Wilma Crippin, of Mesquite, Nev.; and three sons: Greg Crippin and wife Julia; Kirk Crippin; Kelly Crippin and wife Carla, all of Montrose.
Harry was the proud and loving grandfather of four precious grandchildren: Jared, Whitney, Lindzey, and Jeffrey, all of Montrose.
Other family survivors include one sister, Ruth and husband Ken Westfall, of Pasadena, Calif.; nieces and nephews: Ann, Keith, James, Kathy, Russell, and Tammy; and his former wife and the mother of his three sons, Marion Crippin, of Montrose.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, Ray; one sister, Beth; and one nephew, Kenneth.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to celebrate and say farewell to Harry will be officiated on Thursday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Musical selections will include "I Did It My Way" and "The Lord's Prayer" by vocalist Mary Ann Quint. Sharon Clark will serve as organist.
Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery west of Montrose.
Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Steve Yates, Polly Sinner, Jim Eaton, Norma Tabor, Keith Maynes, and Bill Sumner.
Casketbearers will be Greg Crippin, Kirk Crippin, Kelly Crippin, Julia Crippin, Carla Crippin, Jared Crippin, Lindzey Crippin, Whitney Crippin, and Jeffrey Crippin.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of the Uncompahgre Valley, In Memory of Harry V. Crippin, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402-1804.

Lyle Galloway Davis
Loved the Outdoors
Dec. 5, 1905 - March 10, 2001

CEDAREDGE - Lyle Galloway Davis, age 95, of Cedaredge, died Saturday afternoon, March 10, 2001, at her home in Cedaredge.
Lyle Galloway, the daughter of Southwestern Colorado cattleman Gordon Grainger Galloway and Kate Salina (McCall) Galloway, was born on Dec. 5, 1905, in Norwood, Colo., where she spent her childhood years, graduated from the Norwood High School, and grew to adulthood. Her grandfather was James P. Galloway, a Territorial Senator of Colorado, Del Norte, Colo. area. He was later a resident of Paradox.
In 1935, Lyle was joined in marriage with Lt. Col. Bert Henry Davis. Their lives together were enriched when they became the parents of two children. He commanded a machine gun battalion in France during World War I and recruiting and indoctrination during World War II. Bert preceded Lyle in death on May 20, 1965, in Dallas, Texas.
Lyle, a homemaker, lived in Dallas, Texas; Little Rock, Ark.; Lafayette, La.; and Fort Smith, Ark., before relocating to Cedaredge where she remained until the time of her death.
She participated in various women's and family organizations.
Lyle loved the outdoors, and her family and spending time with them. She greatly enjoyed her early ranch life, horseback riding, traveling, and shopping trips to Denver on the Narrow Gauge and "Broad Gauge."
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Lyle's life include one son, Gordon Galloway Davis, of Norwood; and one daughter, Irene Elura Davis, of Cedaredge.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Bert, Lyle was also preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Galloway.
Graveside Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Lyle's life will be officiated by Rev. Clint Perry on Saturday, March 24, at 2 p.m. in the Norwood Cemetery at Norwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwood Library, In Memory of Lyle Davis.

Cassie Elaine King-Greenlee
7-Yr.-Old Delta Girl
Oct. 16, 1993 - March 19, 2001

DELTA - Cassie Elaine King-Greenlee, age 7, a resident of Delta for two years, died Monday, March 19, 2001, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital at Delta.
Cassie Elaine King-Greenlee, the daughter of Tony Hogue, Kevin Greenlee and Sheilla King, was born on Oct. 16, 1993, in Glenwood Springs, Colo., where she spent five years of her childhood until two years ago when she moved to Delta, remaining there until the time of her death.
Cassie attended the Faith Chapel of Delta.
Loves in Cassie's life that brought her happiness were music, Whinnie The Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Cassie's life include her parents, Kevin and Sheilla Greenlee, of Delta; her biological father, Tony Hogue, of Casper, Wyo.; and three brothers: John A. Simmons IV; Michael T. Simmons, and Joseph D. Simmons, all of Missouri.
Other family survivors include her grandparents: Dewey I. King, of Delta; Dean Exley and Elaine King, of Carbondale; Edward and Elaine Hogue, of Casper, Wyo.; Wallace and Sheila Greenlee, of Grand Junction; Kenneth and Beverly Grant, of Pasadena, Calif.; and her great-grandparents: Cecil and Mayble Philpot, of Rifle; and Nellie Bennet, of Nucla.
Cassie was preceded in death by her grandparents: Asa Bennett; and Melva and J.B. Thompson.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to say farewell to Cassie will be officiated by Rev. Frank Dorrington on Monday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at the Faith Chapel in Delta.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. in the Nucla Cemetery at Nucla.

Minnie Mae Carroll
Beloved Mother, Grandmother,
Great-, Great-Great-Grandmother
Feb. 4, 1904 - March 17, 2001

GRAND JUNCTION - Minnie Mae Carroll, age 97, of Grand Junction, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in the Larchwood Inns.
Minnie Mae Hittle was born in Ticonic, Iowa, on Feb. 4, 1904, the daughter of Edgar and Mamie (Barnard) Hittle. Her father died when she was 7 and at the age of 12 she moved with her mother to Collbran, Colo., where she graduated from high school. After her high school graduation, Minnie attended Western State College in Gunnison.
After teaching school for five years in the Collbran area, Minnie married Allen Carroll in 1928 and they moved back to Iowa. Minnie and Allen had three children: Allena Mae, Hallie, and Bruce.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Minnie's life include her three children: Allena Mae and husband Henry Stanton, of Ridgway; Hallie Kohles, of Grand Junction; Bruce Carroll and wife Francis, of Worland, Wyo.; seven precious grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place, with no services planned.

Alice Lucile Kile
Homemaker, Retired School Teacher
May 21, 1910 - March 16, 2001

OLATHE - Alice Lucile Kile, age 90, of Olathe, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at her home in Olathe.
Alice Lucile Cameron, the daughter of Rawley W. Cameron and Caroline M. (Hinnen) Cameron, was born on May 21, 1910, in Eldorado, Kan., where she spent her childhood years, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood. She continued to pursue her education and graduated from Colorado State University at Boulder with a degree in journalism and teaching.
In 1943, Alice was joined in marriage with John W. Kile in Eldorado, Kan. John preceded Alice in death.
In 1976, Alice moved from Eldorado to Canton, Kan., where she resided until January of 1991 when she moved to Olathe where she remained until the time of her death.
Alice was a homemaker and a retired school teacher.
She was a member of the Olathe United Methodist Church.
The loves of Alice's life that brought her so much enjoyment were the outdoors, her flower garden, fishing, traveling, hand work, crafts, reading, and being a homemaker.
Survivors very grateful to share Alice's life include two stepsons: Richard Kile and wife Ruth, of Madison, Kan.; Virgil Manning and wife Elsie, of Mesa, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Juanita Bush, of Duncan, Okla.; eight stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Edna Hubbs, of Olathe.
Along with both of her parents and husband, John, Alice was also preceded in death by one brother.
No services are planned.

Sibyl Aline Ingle Crane
Devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Friend
Oct. 30, 1912 - March 21, 2001

OLATHE - Sibyl Aline Ingle Crane, age 88, a homemaker and a resident of Olathe, died Wednesday afternoon, March 21, 2001, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital at Delta.
Born on Oct. 30, 1912, in Clements, Kan., Sibyl Aline Kingery was the daughter of Walter I. Kingery and Gracia (Rank) Kingery. She spent her childhood in Kansas until she was 7 years old and then moved with her family to Colorado.
Sibyl, a homemaker, lived in Grand Junction and LaJunta before making her home in Springfield, Colo., for 35 years. In 1995, she relocated to Fruita and then moved to Olathe in October of 2000 where she remained until the time of her death.
She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Sibyl's main interest was oil painting and she also enjoyed crocheting and needlework.
Survivors very grateful to share Sibyl's life include two sons: Warren Ingle, of Olathe; Don Ingle, of Florence; six precious grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Sibyl was preceded in death by both of her parents; a 4-year-old daughter, Evonna Ingle; one son, Billy Ingle; and one sister, Lillian Wilson.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, March 23, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Sibyl's life will be officiated on Saturday, March 24, 11 a.m. in the Cedar Cemetery at Montrose.

George Washington Rowan
Beloved Dad, Granddad, Great-Granddad
Feb. 22, 1912 - March 22, 2001

MONTROSE COUNTY - Retired farmer, George Washington Rowan, age 89, a lifetime Montrose County resident, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
George Washington Rowan, the son of Daniel and Effie Matilda (Dye) Rowan, was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Olathe, Colo., where he spent his childhood and went to school.
On June 23, 1937, he married Maxcine Myrtle Mae McClanahan in Olathe, Colo. They farmed the same place on California Mesa, west of Olathe, for 42 years before retiring.
George was a man who was very proud of his family. He was loved by all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved to sit around in the evenings and visit with family members, listen to music, play card games, and joke around.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share George's life include his wife of 63 years, Maxcine Rowan, of Montrose; two sons: Rick Rowan and wife Carla, of Montrose; Dennis Rown and wife Cyndy, of Bandon, Ore.; and eight grandchildren: Zane Rowan and wife Lori; Aaron Rowan; Theodore "Tad" Rowan and wife Amy, all of Montrose; Christopher "Kit" Rowan and wife Jacqueline, of Steenwijk, Holland; Tawna and husband Keith Caddy, of Montrose; Sonya and husband Larry Scott, of Spring Creek, Nev.; Denise and husband Bill Smith, of Montrose; and Michael Rowan, who is in the Armed Forces stationed in Korea.
George is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren: Betty and husband Matt Miller; Christopher Rowan, all of Montrose; Andrew "A.J." and Shyla Rowan, of Merincie, Ariz.; Danielle, James, Keith Jr., Benjamin, and David Caddy, all of Montrose; Chancie Scott, of Spring Creek, Nev.; Kimberly and Courtney Rowan, of Steenwijk, Holland; Daniel and Stephanie Rowan; and Ashley and Mariah Smith, all of Montrose.
Viewing for family and friends is scheduled for Sunday, March 25, between 7 and 8:30 p.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of George's life will be officiated on Monday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Montrose.
Interment will follow the service in the Valley Lawns Cemetery, south of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home; (970) 249-4400.

Wilma Ilene Sawyer
Former Longtime Delta Resident
March 24, 1919 - March 19, 2001

GRAND JUNCTION - Former longtime Delta resident, Wilma Ilene Sawyer, age 81, of Grand Junction, died Monday, March 19, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital & Medical Center at Grand Junction, five days before she would have celebrated her 82nd birthday.
Wilma Ilene Bates was born in Yuma, Colo., on March 24, 1919, the daughter of Chet and Edith (Clark) Bates.
On June 21, 1947, Wilma was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with George W. Sawyer in Denver, Colo. Wilma and George would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this year in June.
In 1948, they moved to Delta where they resided for 45 years before moving to the Clifton/ Grand Junction area seven years ago where Wilma remained until the time of her death.
While living in Delta, Wilma worked as a clerk with Dunbar Drug, McDonald's Dry Goods, and Garrett Mercantile.
She was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, the Delta Hub Wheelers, and the Black Canyon Twirlers.
Wilma's hobbies and special interests that brought her so much pleasure during her lifetime included square dancing, fishing, and traveling in their motorhome.
Surviving family members very grateful to share Wima's life include her husband, George Sawyer, of Grand Junction; one son, Floyd Eckman, of Palm Springs, Calif.; and one brother, Milo Bates, of Haxtun.
Along with both of her parents, Chet and Edith (Clark) Bates, Wilma was also preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Bates.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mesa View Mortuary in Delta.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Wilma's life will be officiated on Friday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Mesa View Cemetery at Delta.

Joe Fuentes
Heavy Equipment Operator
July 30, 1924 - March 23, 2001

MONTROSE - Joe Fuentes, age 76, a resident of Montrose since 1989, died Friday evening, March 23, 2001, at his home in Montrose.
Joe Fuentes was born in Azusa, Calif., on July 30, 1924, the son of Cesario Fuentes and Jovita (Barba) Fuentes. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood, in California.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
On July 7, 1949, Joe was joined in marriage with Nancy Dotherrow in Ventura, Calif. Nancy preceded Joe in death in 1977 in Ventura, Calif.
Prior to his retirement, Joe was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the County of Ventura, Calif.
He moved from California to Montrose in 1989 where he made his home until the time of his death. While living in Montrose, he worked as a court interpreter for the Montrose area for many years.
Joe loved his family and his grandchildren were very special to him.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Joe's life include one son, Scott Fuentes, of Darby, Mont.; one daughter, Mary and husband Larry Thomas, of Montrose; three precious grandchildren: Leigha and husband Cooper Bowden, of Ogden, Utah; Wade and Brett Thomas, of Montrose; and two great-grandchildren: Bryce and Ariel Bowden.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Jesse Orozco, of Ventura, Calif.; and Trini Chavez, of Oxnard, Calif.
In addition to both of his parents and his wife, Nancy, Joe was also preceded in death by one sister.
At Joe's request cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose; (970) 249-2121.
