Melissa Todd

Melissa Todd, a Stamford resident, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. She was 17.

She died of injuries from a car accident, according to her family.

Born Nov. 14, 1983, she was a daughter of Fred and Theresa Todd of Stamford.

Ms. Todd was a student at Stamford High School. She was very artistic.

Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Christopher Todd and Joseph Todd, and two sisters, Jenna Todd and Jessica Todd, all of Stamford.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 800 Stillwater Ave., Stamford.

Burial will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Melissa's name to the Stamford High School Scholarship Fund, c/o Stamford High School, 55 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905; or to Make a Wish Foundation of Connecticut, 925 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611.

Augustus "Gus" L. Herrmann Jr.,

of Orange Park, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000 at a hospice in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 68.

He died of complications from an earlier heart attack, according to his family.

Born Jan. 14, 1932, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Augustus L. Herrmann Sr. and Helen Walsh Herrmann.

Mr. Herrmann was an active bowler and a Fourth-Degree knight in the Knights of Columbus in Stamford.

He is survived by his wife, Joann Herrmann of Orange Park; two daughters, Laura Herrmann of Oxford, England, and Valerie Herrmann of Orange Park; a son, Gregory Herrmann of Orange Park; and a sister, Helen H. Corbo of Green Cove Springs, Fla.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000 at St. Joseph Church, 11730 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, Fla.

Mr. Herrmann was cremated and his ashes will be brought to St. John Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231; or Community Hospice of North Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, FL 32257.

Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Fla., handled arrangements.

Deacon Theodore R. Walton,

a Norwalk resident for 35 years, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000 at home. He was 90.

He died of natural causes, according to his family.

Born March 10, 1910, in Drakes Branch, Va., he was a son of the late John and Bertha Walker Walton.

Mr. Walton was a World War II veteran. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Norwalk and a former member of the church's Senior Choir.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Walton of Norwalk; four brothers, Harley Walton, Allen Walton, George Walton and James Walton, all of Charlotte County, Va.; and a sister, Mary Saunders of the Bronx, N.Y.

Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at Grace Baptist Church, 17 West Ave., Norwalk.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Carl L. Washington Jr. will officiate.

Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk.

Downer Funeral Home, 75 East Ave., Norwalk, handled arrangements.

Peter Paul "The Hawk" Scarcella Jr.,

a lifelong Stamford resident, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 75.

He died of natural causes, according to his family.

Born Dec. 2, 1925, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth Madeo Scarcella.

Mr. Scarcella served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was member of several veterans' associations.

At the time of his retirement, he worked for Bar-Way Manufacturing in Stamford. Before that, he worked at Cushman Bros. in New Canaan.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Chimbole Scarcella of Stamford; two daughters, Dorothy "Dodie" Scarcella-Sabo of Shelton and Laurie Cawley of Norwalk; a sister, Anna D'Ambrosio of Norwalk; three grandsons; and two nieces.

Funeral and burial are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 986 Bedford St., Floor 2, Stamford, CT 06901; or to the Salvation Army, 432 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, CT 06902.

Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, handled arrangements.

Jane H. Guinta,

a lifelong Stamford resident, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000 at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. She was 76.

She died of complications from Alzheimer's disease, according to her family.

Born Oct. 9, 1924, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Ernest N. and Ellen Dahlgren Larson.

She graduated from Stamford High School in 1942. Mrs. Guinta was a homemaker. She volunteered with the Rehabilitation Center of Southwestern Connecticut and Meals on Wheels for many years. She was an avid reader, gardener and tennis player.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles A. Guinta of Stamford; three sons, David Charles Guinta, Stephen John Guinta and Thomas William Guinta, all of Stamford; two brothers, John A. Larson of Boulder, Colo., and Ernest N. Larson of Stamford; five sisters, Dorothy Bugbee of Stamford, Margaret Merrifield of Norwalk, Ellen M. Melfi of Monroe, and Elizabeth A. Blanchard and Barbara Olsen, both of Durham; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Guinta was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Larson and Walter Larson; and a sister, Vivian Larson.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 23, 2000 at St. Gabriel Church, 914 Newfield Ave., Stamford.

Burial will follow in Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave., Stamford.

Memorial donations may be made to the Rehabilitation Center of Southwestern Connecticut, 62 Palmer's Hill Road, Stamford, CT 06902; or the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence, c/o Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, 1029 East Main St., Stamford, CT 06902.

Carmela M. D'Acunto of Stamford died Saturday,

Dec. 23, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. She was 84.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Born in February 1916 in Port Chester, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Francesca Sproviero Carlo.

Mrs. D'Acunto lived in Stamford most of her life until moving to Boynton Beach, Fla., 27 years ago. She was a retired employee of the Stamford Public School system's cafeteria department.

She is survived by a son, Thomas R. D'Acunto of Colchester; a sister, Lucy D'Acunto of Stamford; and three grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony "Ike" D'Acunto; a son, Philip D'Acunto; a sister, Theresa Finn; and two brothers, Rocco Carlo and Anthony Carlo.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 26, 2000 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A service will be at 7 p.m. today, Dec. 26, 2000 at the funeral home.

Burial is private.
