CORDONE
William Cordone, age 79, of Bridgeport, entered into rest on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Bridgeport, on April 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank and Filomenia (Amore) Cordone, and a Bridgeport resident for most of his life. Mr. Cordone was a graduate of Warren Harding High School and Bullard Havens Technical School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving in the Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed by many local companies as a draftsman before becoming a member of the U.S. Postal Service in 1970. William was a member of Local 32, National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Letter Carriers Health Plan, retiring in 1984. William was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Stratford. Survivors include his beloved wife, Angeline (Tecci) Cordone; two sisters, Vera Hird of Bridgeport, and Marge Tucci of Shelton; one sister-in-law, Marge Cordone of Stratford; a special nephew, Anthony Tecci and his wife, Mary; a cousin, Sister Cecille of the Order of Notre Dame; and several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Pasquale Cordone, Louis Cordone and his wife, Jenny, Carl Cordone, and Alfred Cordone and his wife, Angela; one sister, Elizabeth Graniello and her husband, Ralph; and two brothers-in-law, Harry Hird and Gene Tucci. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment in St. Michael Garden Mausoleum, Stratford. THERE WILL BE NO CALLING HOURS. Arrangements entrusted to the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport. Donations may be made to the United Visiting Nurse Association, 40 Lindeman Drive, Trumbull, CT 06611, or Our Lady of Grace Building Fund, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford, CT 06614, in memory of William.

STRATFORD, CT
BROWN
Dr. Richard James Brown, age 82, of Stratford, a retired anesthesiologist with the Bridgeport Anesthesia Group, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his home. Born in Stratford, Dr. Brown had been a lifelong Stratford resident. He attended Stratford High School and Mount Hermon Prep in Northfield, Mass. He continued his education at the Junior College of Connecticut and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland. He graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1944. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and after the war, he practiced family medicine in Stratford for seven years. He then did a residency in anesthesia at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the University of Maryland, returning to Bridgeport Hospital as a member of the Bridgeport Anesthesia Group where he practiced for 35 years. He was a member of the Bridgeport Medical Association and the Connecticut State Medical Association, and belonged to the Pootatuck Yacht Club. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Frances D. Brown of Stratford; two children, Barbara Brown of Stratford, and Richard Brown and his wife, Betty, of Zionsville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Chase Proctor, Wendy Brown, and Lt. Jason Brown; two brothers, Herbert Brown of Milford, and Dr. David Brown of Reno, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. in the Spear, Dennis & D`Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be private in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Friday (TODAY), from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dr. Brown may be made to the charity of one`s choice.

TEREK
George A. Terek, age 75, of Stratford, beloved husband of Frieda (Gramesty) Terek, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at his residence. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine Farah Terek. A resident of Stratford for the past 11 years, George was a retired insurance agent for Monarch Life Insurance Co. where he worked for more than 27 years, and was a recipient of the President`s Club Pin for his sales achievement. A veteran of World War II, he was an air mechanic, specializing in the repairs for the B-24 Bomber. He was a member of the Masonic Order Corinthian Lodge 104 AF&AM, 32nd Degree Lafayette Consistory. He was a member of the Pyramid Shriners receiving the Legion of Honor and was a member of the OBEH Grotto, where he was a Past Potentate. He was a devoted church member, having been one of the original founding members of the St. Nicholas Church choir. Survivors, in addition to his devoted wife, Frieda, are two daughters, Gail Terek of New York City, and Linda Terek of Philadelphia; a sister, Ann Massery of Pittsfield, Mass.; a brother, Michael Terek of Fairfield; and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends are invited to go DIRECTLY to St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 5458 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Archpriest Matthew George officiating. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday (TODAY), from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport (on the Trumbull line). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Syrian Orthodox Church Building Fund or to the United Home Care of Fairfield in memory of George.

GENESE
Frank R. Genese, age 60, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Mary (Mondello) Genese, died suddenly on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Genese had been a Fairfield resident since 1986. He was a senior art director and had worked for many years in the direct mail business. Most recently, Mr. Genese was a graphic design instructor at the Connecticut Institute of Art. He was an avid New York Yankee fan. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his two loving sons, Thomas F. Genese and Jonathan F. Genese, both of Fairfield; a sister, Rosemary Galiano of New York; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at 9 a.m., DIRECTLY at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.

PROWELL
Ralph W. (Budd) Prowell, age 80, of Stratford, a retiree of Sikorsky Aircraft with 35 years of service, died on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in New Cumberland, Pa., he was the son of the late Ralph and Esther Snyder Prowell, and was a Stratford resident for more than 50 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign where he was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Victory Medal and American Campaign Medal. Mr. Prowell was a graduate of LeMoyne High School, class of 1940, and Bridgeport Trade School. He was a member of Heartbeats, VFW 9460, Stratford, American Legion Post 127, Orange, and was a member and past president of Teamsters Local 1150. In his youth, he played semi-pro baseball with the West Haven Sailors, and was an avid golfer and sports fan, particularly of the New York Knicks, Mets and Giants. Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Grace Visconti Prowell; a son, Rick Prowell and his wife, Barbara, of Stratford; four grandchildren, Jamie Riordan and her husband, Richard, and Nicole Prowell, all of Stratford; Jim DelRe of Charlotte, N.C., and Jessica DeRoy of Massachusetts; a sister-in-law, Loretta Petrucelli and her husband, Mario, of Stratford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at noon in St. James Church, Stratford, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Jean C. Davenport, age 57, died on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, after a brave two-year battle with cancer. A Huntington section of Shelton resident for nearly 30 years, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Cecilia H. Carey of Shelton, and was predeceased in 1993 by her beloved husband and best friend, Eugene M. Davenport. Her family is comforted knowing they have reunited. Jean retired in 1998 after 33 years at the Southern New England Telephone Co., most recently managing the ISDN Technical Support Center. An avid outdoorswoman with a competitive spirit, she loved trapshooting, hunting, fishing, boating, golf, and never turned down a good game of Scrabble. Jean brightened the lives of those around her and will be dearly missed by family and friends. Survivors include a daughter, Laura D. Greene and her husband, Howard; grandchildren, Christina and Dylan Greene, all of Trumbull; five siblings, William T. Carey Jr., Michael J. Carey and Sarah M. Carey of Shelton, Pierce H. Carey of Ansonia, and Sharon C. Zeiner of Burlington; along with dear cousin, Joan O`Neill of Hamden; in-laws, Eugene H. and Anne M. Davenport of Bridgeport; faithful friend, Molly; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call on Monday, July 23, 2001, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cyril F. DREW
Mary Bennett Drew, age 95, of Nelson Road, Cranston, R.I. and formerly of Fairfield, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at home. She was the widow of Louis E. Drew Sr. whom she married on June 9, 1945. Mrs. Drew was born on October 17, 1905, in Germantown, Pa., a duaghter of the late Frederick W.S. and Anna E. (Whitlock) Bennett. Mrs. Drew was a graduate of Norwalk (CT) High School and the Butler Business School in Bridgeport. She had been employed by the Bridgeport Fabrics Company as an office worker during World War II and later in sales by Leavitt s Department Store in Bridgeport. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Bridgeport, was active in Mary Silliman Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and the Charter Oak Button Club. She had also been a Girl Scout Leader and was active in the Girl Scout "Old Timers" Association. Mrs. Drew is survived by two sons, the Rev. Louis E. Drew and his wife, Susan, of Plaistow, N.H., Sherman D. Drew Esq., and his wife, Astrid, of Cranston; two grandsons, Lars and Anders Drew both of Cranston; a granddaughter, Astrid Drew of Cranston; three step-grandchildren, Deborah Larson of Sheldon, Vt., Melissa LeClair of Pflugerville, Texas , Jonathan LeClair of Fairfax, Vt.; four step-great-grandchildren, Samantha, Alyxantha, Dannielle and Dakota Larson all of Sheldon, Vt.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and two sister in-laws, Sophie Bennett of New Milford and Laura Drew of Little Rock, Ark. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2001, between 6 to 8 p.m. in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield with funeral services on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church, 116 Rolfe Street, Cranston, RI, 02910, or to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 144, Plaistow, NH, 03865. Blas Gonzalez, age 93, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Genoveva Ramos Gonzalez, died Friday, July 20, 2001. Born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Manuel and Irenes Mendez Gonzalez. A resident of Brideport, many years, he was a retired farmer. Survivors include his devoted children, Luz M. Rivera, Elba Torres, Haydee Negron, Blanca Cordero, Feliz Nolasko, Gloria, Ramon and Miguel Gonzalez; a brother, Pablo Gonzalez; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Peterus Church. Interment in Mt. Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday, July 23, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Charles Dougiello & Sons Funeral Home, 798 Park Avenue, Bridgeport.

GOODWIN
Richard (Dick Hertz) Goodwin, age 67, beloved husband of Janet Fowle Goodwin of Stratford, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2001, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Mr. Goodwin was born on January 17, 1934, in Rumford, Maine, and was the son of the late Clarence and Lucy Arsenault Goodwin. Richard was a United States Army veteran and was employed with A & P for 34 years and was recently retired from Dresser Industries as a press operator where he worked for 16 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 177 and a past member of the Stonybrook Oldtimers. In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by two daughters, Kathy DeLuca of Waterbury, Kim Lesko and her husband, William, of Oxford; two brothers, Ted Goodwin and his wife, Carol, of Milford, Danny Goodwin of DelRay Beach, Fla.; one sister, Patricia Bloszko and her husband, Joseph, of Milford; one sister in-law, Nancy Politano of Lodi, Calif; four grandchildren, Julie and David Vaught, Brian and Carly Lesko; one great-granddaughter, Daija Marie; four nephews, Michael, Joseph, Kevin, Brian; one niece, Linda; and one grand-nephew, Joseph Matthew. Friends and relatives may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2189 Barnum Avenue, Stratford, on Monday, July 23, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. John Sherwood, age 58, beloved husband of Joanne Barry Sherwood of Monroe, died Friday, July 20, 2001 in his home following a long illness. Born in Bridgeport on August 3, 1942, he was the son of late Agnes Slez Cook. Mr.Sherwood was a resident of Monroe for 45 years and worked as a truck driver for the Best Foods Co. of Greenwich until the time of his illness. He was a 30-year member of the Teamsters Union, Local 707. Mr. Sherwood will be remembered for his love of gardening and gourmet cooking. Besides his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Daniel John Sherwood of Monroe and Colleen Sherwood Ryan of California., brother Richard Sherwood of Sandy Hook, sisters, Kathleen Fernandez of New York, and Diane Markey of Milford. He is also survived by serveral nieces and nephews. Besides his mother, Mr Sherwood was predeceased by a sister, Mary Anne Gamble and stepfather, J.W. Cook. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 23, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Rte.111) Monroe. Memorial contributions may be made to the.
