Catherine T. Hewlett (Ware), age 93, passed from this life on Friday, July 27, 2001, at her home in Hollywood, Fla. Catherine was born on February 8, 1908, in Bridgeport to the late William and Catherine Fitzgibbons. She resided and worked in Bridgeport until moving to Florida in the 1940s with her late husband, Lloyd F. Ware. After her first husband`s passing, she married Farless L. Hewlett of Hollywood, who also predeceased her. She was the sister of the late Mae Brown, Thomas Fitzgibbons and Margaret McGrath. She is survived by her sister, Florence A. Zahorsky of Bridgeport and several nieces and nephews. Catherine loved people, nature and music and touched the lives of many with love, care, strength and kindness. Her remembrance will always be an inspiration. A memorial Mass will be held on Sunday (TODAY) in Hollywood, at the Little Church of Flowers. Friends may attend graveside services on Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at a time to be announced at Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Arrangements by the Redgate Hennessy Funeral Home, Trumbull.

MORRIS
Jeffrey Glenn Morris, age 39, of San Francisco, formerly of Monroe, who died Friday, July 13, 2001, in his home after a long illness, and was the beloved son of Lorraine Morris Littlefield. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield.

Marie L. Essex, age 64, of Trumbull, died at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport, on Friday, July 27, 2001. Born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Antoinette DiPofi Liburdi, and was a Trumbull resident for more than 24 years. Mrs. Essex, a well-recognized fashion illustrator, was chairman of the fashion design department at Parsons School of Design, New York City. For many years she chaired the annual Parsons Fashion Show. Survivors include her beloved husband, Jack T. Essex; a son, Harry Essex of New York City; a sister, Vivian Ascenzi and her husband, Orlando, of Bedford Hills, N.Y.; nieces and nephews, Mary Lou Nerheim of South Carolina, David Liburdi, Joseph Liburdi, Doris Vittorini and Diane Ciavardini, all of Bedford Hills, N.Y., Christina Arledge of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., Steve Ascenzi of Somers, N.Y., and Marilynn Hyatt of Mt. Kisco, N.Y.; and several cousins; great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Dawn; her brother, Joseph Liburdi and her sister-in-law, Rita Liburdi; and her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Jeanne Essex. Friends are invited to meet DIRECTLY at Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Avenue, Trumbull, on Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at a time to be announced for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Mt. Kisco, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Mercy Corps International, P.O. Box 2669, Portland, OR 97208-9652, or Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10021. RYNNE
Retha Lucas Rynne, of Guilford, wife of David W. Rynne of 58 Stonegate Circle, Branford, died Saturday, July 28, 2001. She was born in Fairfield, February 27, 1924, daughter of the late John and Mary Idranyi Lucas. She was an administrator for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford for 42 years prior to her retirement. She was the aunt of Robert and John Lucas of Fairfield. She was predeceased by brothers, John and Edward Lucas; and sisters, Irene DeHart and Helen Marsh. Friends are invited to go directly to All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum for a funeral service Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at 10 a.m. There are no calling hours. The W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main Street, Branford, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Elizabeth Church, 65 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

Linda L. Allen, age 47, of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest suddenly on Friday, July 27, 2001, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Complete arrangements to be announced by the George J. Peterson Funeral Home, 1041 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport.

WALSH
Edward F. Walsh, age 79, of the Huntington section of Shelton, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, in his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road.

BEDNARSKI
Eugene V. Bednarski, age 89, of Stratford, died on Saturday, February 2, 2002, in Lord Chamberlain Health Care Facility, Stratford, under the care of their dedicated hospice staff, after an eight-month battle with cancer. Born on December 31, 1912, in Union City to the late Chester and Eleanor Olszewski Bednarski, he was a resident of Stratford for 50 years. Mr. Bednarski was retired from Singer Manufacturing Co. and was an accomplished accordionist, who headed his own band for many years. He was a communicant of St. Mary s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Although he and Olga, his wife of 55 years, had no children, they greatly enriched the lives of their nieces, nephews and many friends. Mr. Bednarski was predeceased by his wife Olga Welehorsky Bednarski, who passed away December 17, 2001; his brother, Harry in October 2001; and his sister Jean Ambrose in November 1999. Surviving are his brother Edward Bednarski and his wife, Julia, of Stratford; Edward s daughter Susan Salamone and her husband, Matt, and their three children, Matthew, David and Emily; his nephew Richard Ambrose of Stratford, who took such loving care of Eugene and Olga; his sister-in-law, Nellie Bednarski, and her daughter, Nancy Keller, of Milford; his niece, Johanna Ahern and her fianc, Richard Strovers, of Milford, her son, Sean Ahern and his wife, Jennifer, of Shelton, her step-daughter, Laurie Ahern Nowel and her husband, Craig, and their children, Danielle and Sean, of Milford; his sister-in-law Pearl Nucifora of Milford, and her son, Richard Nucifora and his wife, Eve, of Milford, and their daughters, Jenn Nucifora of Salisbury, and Denise Moller and her husband, Daniel, of New Orleans, and Greg Nucifora and his wife, Kathy, of Hutchison, Kan., and their children, Natalie and Dominick. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at 9 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary s Ukrainian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Paul Szewczuk, the Rev. Peter Paproski, and Deacon Stephen Masliuk officiating. Interment will be in St. John s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. Panachida will be at 7 p.m.

FIALKOVICH
Joseph J. Fialkovich, age 51, of Southbury, died on Saturday, February 2, 2002, in Danbury Hospital. Born in Bridgeport to Joseph Fialkovich of Shelton and the late Marion Keegan Fialkovich, he was a resident of Soutbury for five years, having lived previously in Oxford. Joseph was a self-employed carpenter and was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. Survivors, in addition to his father, are two sons, John and Michael Fialkovich of Danbury; a brother, Robert Fialkovich and his wife, Doris, of Shelton; a niece, Allison Fialkovich and a nephew, Jeffrey Fialkovich, both of Shelton; three aunts, Ann Suhy, Josephine Fialkovich and Mary Zaletta, all of Shelton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, with the Rev. Peter Benyo officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. JohnPs Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. Panachida will be at 4:30 p.m. Those desiring may make donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Rd., Wilton CT 06897.

STRICKLAND
Karla (Renzulli) Strickland, age 54, of the Southport section of Fairfield, beloved wife of Ross M. Strickland, died on Saturday, February 2, 2002, in St. Vincent s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Elmhurst, N.Y., Mrs. Strickland had been a Southport resident for the last 20 years. She was a graduate of St. John s University. Karla was very active in various school activities at Timothy Dwight, Tomlinson Junior High and Fairfield High School, where she participated in the PTA and chaired many student activities. She was also deeply committed to environmental education as evidenced by her involvement in the Mill River Wetlands Program, the Connecticut Audubon Society and the Connecticut Audubon Society s Birdcraft Museum where she had been a board member for 17 years. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her two beloved sons, Brian J. Strickland of Quincy, Mass., and Greg M. Strickland, a senior at Wake Forest University; and her loving mother, Mary (Cannon) Renzulli of Trumbull. She was predeceased by her father, Michael Renzulli. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Southport Congregational Church, 524 Pequot Avenue, Southport. Interment will follow on Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Connecticut Audubon Society s Birdcraft Museum, 314 Unquowa Rd., Fairfield CT 06430.

FRANCO
Margaret M. Franco, age 97, of Stratford, died Saturday, February 2, 2002, in Mediplex of Milford. Miss Franco, a retired employee of Warner Brothers, Bridgeport, was born in Bridgeport and was a Bridgeport and Stratford resident her entire life. She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women, the Quarter Century Club of Warner Brothers and the Baldwin Senior Center of Stratford. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Jennie M. Franco of Stratford, and a brother-in-law, Maxime Cormier of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at 10 a.m. directly at St. AugustinePs Cathedral. Burial will be in St. MichaelPs Cemetery, Stratford. There are no calling hours. The Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, is in charge of arrangements.

GROSS
Henry Gross, age 84, of Trumbull, a retired repair technician for Bridgeport Machine Co., died on Friday, February 1, 2002, at St. Vincent s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Steven and Theresa Kosturko Gross. As well as being a resident of St. Joseph s Manor, he was a member of the Chestnut Hill Seniors, St. Theresa Seniors and AARP. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Josephine Pasacreta Gross; a daughter, Patricia Rakes and her husband, Kenneth, of Mentor, Ohio; a sister, Elsie Rahrig of Bridgeport; three grandchildren, Kenneth, Kelly and Kevin; and five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Celia, Albert, Courtney and Killian. He was predeceased by a brother, John Gross, and a sister, Dorothy Lucas. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael s Cemetery, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Joseph s Manor, 6448 Main Street, Trumbull CT 06611. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m.

MICHRINA
Joseph Michrina, age 85, of Catlin Place, Shelton, entered into rest Friday, February 1, 2002, in Griffin Hospital, Derby, after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of 58 years to Mary Varga Michrina. Mr. Michrina was born April 17, 1916, in Mystic, son of the late Joseph and Mary Sipay Michrina, and had been a Shelton resident for most of his life. He was an employee of the former Sidney Blumenthal Textile Co. and retired from Sikorsky Aircraft in 1970 after 16 years of working as an experimental mechanic. Mr. Michrina was the beloved father of Mary Woron and her husband, Michael, of Shelton. He leaves a sister, Ann Turaj of Lancaster, N.H. Mr. Michrina also leaves three loving grandchildren, Jessica, Avery and David. He was the brother of the late George and Vladimir Michrina, and Marie Neff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 380 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. Visitation will be private.The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

LaPAGLIA
Louis V. LaPaglia Sr., age 86, husband of the late Frances Martorano LaPaglia, of Root Avenue, Ansonia, died early Saturday evening, February 2, 2002, at the Ridgewood Health Care Facility in Southington following a long illness. Mr. LaPaglia was born in Ansonia on April 5, 1915, son of the late Joseph and Josephine LaPaglia. A lifelong Ansonia resident, he had worked as a foreman at the Anaconda American Brass Co. in Ansonia for 40 years until his retirement in 1976. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, attaining the rank of staff sergeant, and working as an airplane mechanic. He is survived by three sons, Joseph P. LaPaglia of Merrimack, N.H., Louis V. LaPaglia Jr. of Jamesville, N.Y., and Henry F. LaPaglia of Naugatuck; one brother, Samuel LaPaglia of Ansonia; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Michael LaPaglia, and one sister, Ada Fazzino. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at 8:15 a.m. from the Spinelli-Malerba Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street, Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Military honors and burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter s Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, from 4 to 7 p.m.
