GALLAGHER
James M. Gallagher, age 75, of Fairfield, retired domestic and international credit manager for General Electric Customer Financial Services, died on Tuesday, November 19, 2002. A Fairfield resident for the past 28 years, Mr. Gallagher was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on September 8, 1927, the son of the late Joseph V. Gallagher and Anna Handley Gallagher. He was a graduate of Hanover Township High School and Kings College in Wilkes-Barre. He served in the United States Army in 1945-1946. He was a member of the Elfun Society at General Electric. Following retirement, Mr. Gallagher volunteered as a Science Docent at the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport, and as a Sanctuary Docent at the Connecticut Audubon Society in Fairfield. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Cunningham Gallagher of Fairfield; a daughter, Susan G. Scott and her husband, Keith of Vancouver, Wash.; a son, Richard J. Gallagher of Leesburg, Va.; a sister, Mary Jo Berrettini of Medford, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Christine Gallagher, Laura Gallagher and Daniel Gallagher of Andreas, Pa. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Church on Brookside Drive in Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. The Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no calling hours, and in lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in memory of Mr. Gallagher be made to either the Connecticut Audubon Society, 2325 Burr Street, Fairfield, CT 06824, or to Estherville, The Animal Shelter, 100 Russell Road, Greenville Center, N.Y. 12833.

ALERS
Fernando Alers, age 69, of Bridgeport, beloved son of the late Juan and Leocadia Pellot Alers, died on Monday, December 2, 2002, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Haven. Born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, he was a resident of Bridgeport for more than 30 years. A former police officer for more than nine years in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army Infantry. Fernando was a retired maintenance worker for the General Electric Co. Survivors include his beloved daughters, Iris Calogine and her husband, Anthony, of West Haven, and Marissa Alers of Bridgeport; four brothers, Ramon Alers of Bridgeport, Juan and Rafael Alers of Puerto Rico, and Victor Alers of New York; a sister, Maria D. Alers of Puerto Rico; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday at 9 a.m. in St. Charles Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with military honors will be conducted in St. Michael`s Cemetery. Calling hours on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Charles Dougiello & Sons Funeral Home, 798 Park Avenue, Bridgeport.

PASQUELLA
John A. Pasquella Sr., age 81, of Fairfield, died Sunday evening, September 29, 2002, after an extended illness. His beloved and caring wife, Catherine (Olson) Pasquella, survives him. John was born June 13, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa. After graduating from Central High School in Bridgeport, he received a baseball scholarship to Temple University. Upon graduation from Temple, he served with the famous 80th Division of General George C. Patton`s Third Army, which captured Hitler`s hideout, took part in the rescue of the 101st Airborne at Bastogne and the ``Battle of the Bulge``. Achieving the rank of sergeant A.P.O. tech fourth grade, he received four Battle Stars, the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Metal. Prior to his illness, John was a sales manager for Lederer`s Appliance Store in Bridgeport. He was also the past chairman of Fairfield Little League and the coach of Fairfield`s American Legion baseball team which won the regional championship in 1972. Besides his wife, he leaves his family of two sons, Jack and his wife, Karyn, of Thomaston and Robert Michael of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan; his sister-in-law, Jean Tomlin and her husband, Howard, of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves Robert Tarczali, a dear family friend and like a brother to John. Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 3, 2002, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., at the Shaughnessey Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield followed by a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Interment is private.

CHERRY
Walter Cherry Jr., age 75, of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 30, 2002, in Bridgeport Hospital. He was born on November 11, 1926, in Volusia, Fla. to the late Walter Cherry and Mattie Lewis. Walter was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Karen Cherry, Valerie Cherry, Alisha Cherry and Romaine Moore; a brother, Daniel Cherry; a sister, Antoinette Kennedy; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three nephews; one niece and other family members and friends. Walter was predeceased by one son. A service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2002 at 7 p.m. in the George J. Peterson Funeral Home, 1041 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport. Friends may greet the family from 6 p.m. until the time of service. Interment to beheld at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to George J. Peterson Funeral Home.

ZEBROWSKI
Lottie M. Zebrowski, age 88, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late K. Charles Zebrowski, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, in Lord Chamberlain Health Care Center. Born in New Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine Dyrda Jarosz. A lifelong resident of Bridgeport, she was proprietor, along with her husband, of Charlie`s Luncheonette and Coffee Shoppe located in Bridgeport from 1957 to 1987. She was a former member and office holder of the Ladies Guild of St. Michael`s Church. A devoted mother and grandmother who was more than just a homemaker, she will be sadly missed by her family, whom she adored. Survivors include; a son, Bernard L. Zebrowski, and his wife, Marilyn, of Florida; a devoted daughter, Virginia Gilliam of Stratford; granddaughter, Melissa A. Link of Stratford; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Julian; a sister, Ceil Hajna of Woodbury, N.J., sister-in-law, Victoria (Vicky) Recko of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Stella Rambush, and brothers, Anthony and Frank Yarrish. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 4, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael The Archangel Church. Interment in St. Michael`s Cemetery, Stratford. Calling hours on Thursday, October 3, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill-Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport, (on the Trumbull line). If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation in memory of Lottie.

KOSTURAK
Stephen Kosturak, age 86, of Southbury passed away on Monday, September 30, 2002, in Medi-Plex of Southbury. Mr. Kosturak, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. was born in Bridgeport to the late Samuel and Bertha (Fotta) Kosturak and had been a resident of Southbury for 17 years, prior to that living in Bridgeport. He was a retired supervisor for Avco Lycoming and was a member of the Greek Catholic Union, the American Legion and the Greater Bridgeport Old Times Athletic Association. He was the widower of Ann Bobko Kosturak. Survivors include his beloved children, Robert Kosturak of Mill Valley, Calif., and Stephanie Lynott, and her husband, Robert, of Southbury; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Samuel Kosturak of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, and at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church, Bridgeport, for a Requiem Funeral Service. Interment with full military honors will be at St. John`s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Friday, October 4, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. Panachida will be on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

SNIFFEN
Lois (Spencer) Sniffen, of Stratford, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2002, in Lord Chamberlain Health Care Facility, Stratford. Born on November 15, 1919, in Bradford, Vt., to the late Henry and Marion McCallister Dickey, she was a Stratford resident for over 60 years. She was predeceased by her husband, James Bounds Sniffen and is survived by her loving and devoted son, James Spencer and his wife, Virginia of Stratford; two grandchildren, Katherine Spencer Joyce and her husband, Martin, of Bourne, Mass. and Paul Spencer and his wife, Sierra, of St. Cloud, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Brenna and Logan Joyce. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2002 in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Visiting Nurses Association or to a favorite charity.

PICKETT
Margaret (Jennie) Novak Pickett, age 86, beloved wife of the late Joseph G. Pickett, formerly of Stratford, died Monday, September 30, 2002, in Arden House, Hamden. Born in Luzerne, Pa., Margaret resided in Stratford for 55 years moving to her daughter`s home 10 years ago. She was a former employee of Howland Dept. Store and The Dental Supply Co., both in Bridgeport. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Halkovic and her husband, William of North Haven; a son, Robert Pickett and his wife, Nancy of Lebanon, Ind.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday, October 4, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. from the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford. Entombment in St. Michael Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108.

KINSELLA
Marguerite A. Kinsella, age 71, beloved wife of William E. Kinsella, of Fairfield, died at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, on September 30, 2002. She was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of Rutledge and Dorothy McKeon. She was a chaplain`s assistant and Eucharistic minister at St. Vincent`s Medical Center and St. Augustine`s Cathedral. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Christopher J. Kinsella, of Waitsfield, Vt., and Paul Kinsella, of Shelton; two grandchildren, Kristen Kinsella and Lila Galvan; two brothers, James W. McKeon, of Myrtle Beach S.C., and Michael J. McKeon, of Fairfield; three sisters, Patricia O. Dubret, Sally F. Levinson and Therese McKeon, all of Florida. Friends are invited to attend the funeral, leaving the Shaughnessey Funeral Home at 9:20 a.m., on Friday, October 4, 2002, and at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine`s Cathedral, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 - 8 p.m. It would be appreciated if donations by made in her memory to: St. Augustine`s Cathedral Renovation Fund, 359 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06605, or St. Vincent`s Medical Center, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606.

STRUNK
Barbara Strunk, age 65, of Manning, S.C., a former longtime Fairfield resident, died Sunday, September 29, 2002. She was a retired teacher with the Fairfield school system and also a retiree from IBM. Her survivors include her husband, Robert; and three children, a son, Eric and his wife, Casey (Maloney), of West Chester, Ohio; two daughters, Emilee Gillilan and her husband, Jay, of Dallas; and Leslie Potter and her husband, Timothy, of Pittsfield, Mass. Survivors also include four beloved grandchildren, William and Caitlin Strunk, Elaina Gillilan and Peter Trapnell. A private memorial service is being planned by the family.
