Ernest Heitzler Jr.,

91; served in WW II

Ernest Heitzler Jr., 91, a Greenwich resident for more than 40 years, died Saturday, Dec. 15, at home.

He died of natural causes, his family said.

Born May 27, 1910, in Danville, Va., he was the son of the late Ernest Heitzler Sr. and the late Emma Blane Heitzler. He was the husband of Teresa Sweeney Heitzler, who predeceased him in 1985.

Mr. Heitzler was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., where he received a bachelor of arts degree and was president of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He served in World War II in the Ordnance Corps and retired with the rank of captain after active and reserve service.

During his career, he was in sales with Ruberoid Co., American Cyanamid Co. in the Formica division, and National Plywood. Mr. Heitzler had been a Greenwich resident since 1957.

He is survived by a son, Joseph F. Heitzler of Rolling Hills, Calif.; two daughters, Susan M. Walters of Cos Cob and Christina B. Manero of Wilton; two brothers, Carter P. Heitzler of Danville and Charles F. Heitzler of Albuquerque, N.M.; and nine grandchildren and two nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Ave. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery on North Street.

There are no calling hours. Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Frank G. Stisser, 73;

December 18, 2001

was town resident

Frank Gridley Stisser, 73, a resident of Riverside and Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 14, at home.

He died of complications of Parkinson's disease, said his wife of 51 years, Martha C. Stisser of Riverside and Ponte Vedra Beach.

Born July 31, 1928, in New York City, he was the son of the late Frank G. and Mary S. Stisser.

Mr. Stisser attended Greenwich schools and Deerfield Academy, and graduated from Amherst College in 1950.

He was president of C.E. Hooper Inc., a radio and market research company, from 1957 to 1968. He later formed Sound Communications, which owned radio stations in Naugatuck, Easton, Pa., and Allentown, Pa., until 1986. He served as district director of the CBS Radio Affiliates Board and was a member of the Association of Independent Metropolitan Stations.

Mr. Stisser retired to Ponte Vedra Beach, where he was a member of the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, and the Marsh Landing Country Club. He was the past president and an emeritus member of the Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Robert G. Stisser of Windsor; David C. Stisser of Darien and Peter A. Stisser of Wilton; and eight grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Stisser.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 27 at the First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Southwestern Connecticut, 1029 East Main St., Stamford, CT 06902-4108 or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032-9982.

Arrangements are by Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home in Greenwich.

Marian C. Honulik

December 30, 2001

Marian C. Honulik, 75, a Greenwich resident, died Friday, Dec. 28, at Greenwich Hospital.

She died of heart failure, according to her family.

Mrs. Honulik had worked as a long distance operator for AT&T. She lived in Greenwich for 53 years.

Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Port Chester, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Agnes Dillion Keegan.

She is survived by her husband, Frank J. Honulik of Greenwich; a son, F. Gary Honulik of Fairfield; three daughters, Judy Gallagher of Stamford, Maureen Detmer of Greenwich and Joyce Fratello of Greenwich; and six grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Jack Keegan, Eugene Keegan and Peter Keegan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St., Greenwich.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St., Greenwich, CT 06830; or the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492-1822.

Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., is handling the arrangements.

Katherine Kiah

December 30, 2001

Katherine Anne Kiah, 91, of Portland, Maine, a former Greenwich resident, died Saturday, Dec. 29, at St. Joseph's Manor in Portland.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Mrs. Kiah lived in Greenwich from 1958 to 1988. She moved to Brookfield in 1988 and to Portland in 1999.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Portland and had been a member of St. Mary Church in Bethel.

Born July 17, 1910, in Brewer, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Henry E. and Dehlia Flaherty Samways.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Clarence Kiah of Portland; a daughter, Sister Annemarie Kiah, Sisters of Mercy of America, of Portland; three sons, David H. Kiah of Newton, Mass., Donald L. Kiah of Windsor and Daniel E. Kiah of Bethel; two sisters, Eileen Albert of Framingham, Mass., and Carolyn Harrington of Manchester, N.H.; and six grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Samways; and a sister, Peg McPherson.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Conroy-Tully Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, Maine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Joseph's Church, Stevens Avenue, Portland. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 605 Stevens Ave., Portland, Maine 04103.

Margaret L. Ball, 90,

February 19, 2002

former area resident

Margaret Louise Ball, 90, a former Stamford resident, died Sunday, Feb. 17, in Richmond, Va.

She died of natural causes, her family said.

Born on Oct. 1, 1911, in Pound Ridge, N.Y., Mrs. Ball was the daughter of the late William and Abigail Schofield. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Ball.

Mrs. Ball was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Malcolm Ball of Greenwich and Robert Ball of Atlanta; two daughters, Alice Guitton, of Henniker, N.H., and Louise Jones of Stamford; and 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Bouton & Reynolds Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., in Stamford. Interment will follow in Long Ridge Union Cemetery, in Stamford.

Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
