Anne Marie Frank

August 25, 2002

Anne Marie Mahoney Frank, 61, of Easton, a Greenwich town employee, died Thursday, Aug. 22, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass.

She died of a cardiac arrest, according to her family.

An account clerk for 18 years at the Greenwich Parks and Recreation Department, Mrs. Frank had recently started working at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home.

Born July 2, 1941, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Anne Marie Kelly Mahoney.

She is survived by her husband, Lothar L. Frank of Easton; two daughters, Jennifer Frank of Easton and Melanie Frank of Hartford; a son, Matthew Frank of Farmingdale, N.Y.; a brother, Cornelius Mahoney of Stamford; a sister, Mary Anne Rourke of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. The funeral will be at 6 p.m., with the Rev. Joseph Malloy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, 11 Belden Ave., Norwalk, CT 06852.

Dennis Gallagher

August 25, 2002

Dennis Gallagher, 87, of Port Chester, N.Y., a retired book binder, died Friday, Aug. 23, at Haven Healthcare in Torrington.

He died of natural causes, according to his family.

Born Aug. 3, 1915, in the Bronx, N.Y., he was a son of the late Dennis and Ellen Coxe Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher graduated from Greenwich High School.

He married Vivian Davis Gallagher of Port Chester at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester on Dec. 7, 1946.

Employed as a bookbinder at Condé Nast Publications, Mr. Gallagher also worked in Quinn's Market in Greenwich. He was a member of the Greenwich Knights of Columbus, Orinoco Council No. 39.

Mr. Gallagher was predeceased by his sister, Regina Ellen Flynn, and his brother, Edward Gallagher.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at James J. Gunipero Funeral Home, 353 Westchester Ave., Port Chester.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 260 Westchester Ave., Port Chester, NY 10573.

Henry Schmeckpeper

August 25, 2002

Henry L. Schmeckpeper, 98, of Chester, died Friday, Aug. 23, at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

He died of cardiac respiratory failure, according to his family.

Mr. Schmeckpeper was a retired vice president and civil engineer for Arthur A. Johnson Corp. of New York City.

Born Nov. 14, 1903, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Henry F. Schmeckpeper and Anna Merdes Schmeckpeper.

Mr. Schmeckpeper graduated from Cornell University in 1926. He was a member and former trustee of the Cutchogue Methodist Church in Long Island, N.Y.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan Torelli of Greenwich and Carol Doerrer of Rochester, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Mary Spielman of Deep River; a stepson, John Quilty of Oakton, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Schmeckpeper was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian A. May Schmeckpeper; and his second wife, Elizabeth Quilty Schmeckpeper.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Swan Funeral Home, 211 Main St., Deep River.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington , N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chester Village West Foundation Inc., 317 W. Main St., Chester, CT 06412.

George DeAngelis, 98,

September 29, 2002

longtime town resident

George DeAngelis, 98, of Riverside, died Sept. 2 at Greenwich Woods Health Care Center.

He died of natural causes, the family said.

Born June 20, 1904, in Introdacqua, Italy, he was the son of the late Angelo and Giovanna Rosa Finocchi DeAngelis. He immigrated to the United States in the early 1920s.

Before his retirement, Mr. DeAngelis was superintendent of a New York City building for a large real estate firm and later a maintenance worker for Greenwich Hospital. He had been a resident of Greenwich for 55 years and was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Chiappetta DeAngelis of Riverside; a daughter, Georgeanna DeAngelis of New London; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Mario DeAngelis, and a sister, Marianna DiTata.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery on North Street. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Castiglione Funeral Home.

Winifred G. Burns

October 2, 2002

Winifred G. Burns, a registered nurse and Stamford resident, died Saturday, Sept. 28, at Courtland Gardens Health Center in Stamford. She was 83.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Born March 27, 1919, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ida Hawes Aykroyd.

Mrs. Burns also was an ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

She worked for 15 years at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., prior to which she worked for 10 years at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh. She moved to Stamford three years ago.

Mrs. Burns is survived by two daughters, Susan B. Richards of Stamford and Sandra D. Burns of Arlington, Texas ; a brother, Thomas Aykroyd of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Margie St. John of North Adams, Mass.; and a granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stewart H. Burns.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral and burial will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.

Ada Tammany

October 2, 2002

Ada Louise White Tammany, 86, of Boca Raton, Fla., a Greenwich native and former longtime Cos Cob resident, died Sept. 23 at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton.

She died of cancer, according to her niece, Judith White Chapman of Riverside.

Born in Greenwich on Feb. 17, 1916, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Clara Dahlman White.

A 1934 graduate of Greenwich High School, Mrs. Tammany lived in Cos Cob for more than 50 years. She was a member of Christ Church Greenwich and was active in the Cos Cob Fire Patrol Ladies Auxiliary.

She lived in Old Saybrook before moving to Florida.

Mrs. Tammany is survived by her daughter, Janet L. John of Boca Raton, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Joseph W. Tammany, on Sept. 1. She was also predeceased by a brother, William D. White.

A funeral service was held Saturday at the Chapel of St. Andrews in Boca Raton.

A burial service, conducted by Father Ted Babcock of Christ Church, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486, or to Chapel of St. Andrews, 2707 NW 37th Road, Boca Raton, FL 33434.
