George E. Gadd

WALLINGFORD -- George E. Gadd, 81, of 27 Nod Brook Road, formerly of North Haven, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001. He was the husband of Louise Sirico Gadd.

Mr. Gadd was born in North Haven on Jan. 20, 1920, a son of the late Ernest and Cleora Wooding Gadd. He worked at the Hospital of St. Raphael for 15 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to that he worked at the former A.C. Gilbert Co., of New Haven for 17 years. After retiring from the Hospital of St. Raphael in 1986, he continued to do volunteer work there for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marjory (Rocco) Palladino of Wallingford; two sons, Gregory G. Gadd of Laupahoehoe, Hawaii and Thomas J. Gadd of Wright City, Mo.; and a brother, Walter H. Gadd of North Haven; also by eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by four sisters, Caroline and Lucy M. Hart, Charlotte Gadd and Ann Trappee; and two brothers, Albron M. Gadd and Robert E. Gadd.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:15 a.m. from the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. in St. Rita's Church, Hamden. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Central Connecticut Agency on Aging, Respite Care Program, Noble Street, West Haven, CT 06516.

Albina R. Gagnon

MERIDEN -- Albina R. Gagnon, 84, 319 Lydale Place, wife of the late Henry L. Gagnon, died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001.

Born in Millberry, Mass., on Oct. 28, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Gudauskas. She had resided in Meriden most of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and was a member of the Senior Citizens of Meriden.

She was a loving, caring mother to a daughter; Mrs. Dolores B. Normandy of Meriden; and a son, David Gagnon of Meriden; also survived by a granddaughter, Mischelle B. Normandy of Meriden; two sisters, Madeline L'Heureux of Glastonbury, Eleanor Pendzick of Farmington; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George and Vivian Gudauskas of East Hartford, William Goode of New York, N.Y.; and by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Rose C. Garbero

MERIDEN -- Mrs. Rose C. Luca Garbero, born June 2, 1912, formerly of 229 E. Woodland St., Meriden, has expired.

Her son, Robert J. Garbero; daughter-in-law, Madeline J. Maturo-Garbero; and two sisters, Marie Luca-Miglietta and Josephine Luca-Rodrigues survives her. Robert J. Garbero, formerly of Meriden resides in North Carolina.

Rose is predeceased in death by her husband, Elmo C. Garbero, formerly head chef at the Hawthorne Inn for 30 years. She was the daughter of the late Dominic A. Luca and Maria Concetta-Luca; sister of James Luca, John Luca and Asunta Luca-Dinino, all of Meriden, also predeceased in death.

Nina G. Mangiaracina

MERIDEN -- Nina G. Mangiaracina, 88, of 53 Sylvan Ave., wife of the late Dr. Paul J. Mangiaracina, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in the MidState Medical Center.

She was born in Santa Marguarita, Sicily, Italy, April 1, 1912, a daughter of the late, Francesco and Calogera Rotolo Giambalvo. She was a resident of Meriden most of her life. She was a graduate of the Drake School of Business, New York City. She had worked for the Prudential Insurance Co., prior to starting her family. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She had always enjoyed music and played the piano.

She is survived by a daughter, Vennie L. Mangiaracina of Meriden; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Paul P. Mangiaracina of Torrington, Peter F. and Jo-Ann Mangiaracina of Meriden and Phillip A. and Michelle Mangiaracina Sr. of Cheshire; five grandchildren, Paul P. Mangiaracina, Jon M. Mangiaracina, LeAnn Mangiaracina, Brie Mangiaracina and Phillip A. Mangiaracina Jr.; also two great-grandchildren, Paul J. and Britney(cq) Mangiaracina. She was predeceased by two sisters, Angela and Columba Giambalvo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Thursday (TODAY) with visitation at 9 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Meriden, and her Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She will be interred next to her husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

Velma Rajtar

MIDDLETOWN -- Velma (Schultz) Rajtar, 79, of Lorraine Terrace, Middletown, wife of the late Joseph Rajtar, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the High View Health Care Center.

She was born in Meriden, a daughter of the late Bernard and Anna (Erickson) Schultz. Velma attended Meriden High School and Laurel Business College. She had resided in Middletown since 1950.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Fletcher; a son, Donald Rajtar, both of Middletown; a grandson, Robert Fletcher of New York; and a granddaughter, Christine Fletcher of Middletown.

Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family.

Vincent H. Slater

MERIDEN -- Vincent H. Slater, 86, of 80 Hanover St., died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the Meriden Care and Rehab Center. He was the husband of the late Emma Ada Panciera Slater.

He was born in Meriden, Sept. 7, 1915, a son of the late Morris and Gertrude Arnold Slater. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a stockman at the AMF Cuno Co. for 30 years. He was a parishioner of St. Rose Church.

He is survived by a lovingly devoted friend, Marge Kunz and her daughter, Margaret V. Kunz of Meriden; two daughters, Karen Herb of Southington, Cynthia Riccardelli of Bristol; a son, Keith Slater of Wallingford; a granddaughter, Jenny Herb of Southington; a cousin, Earl Slater of Meriden. He was predeceased by a cousin, Francis Slater.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 9 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Central Connecticut Dialysis Center, 377 Research Parkway, Meriden, or to the MidState Visiting Nurse Association, 659 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Ismael Cortes

AGUADA, Puerto Rico -- Ismael (Manny) Cortes, 69, of Aguada, Puerto Rico, beloved husband of Aida Perez Cortes, died on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, on June 17, 1931, and was a son of the late Hipolo and Encarnacion Cortes. He was a longtime Meriden resident and retired from Northeast Utilities/CL&P in 1993 after 21 years of service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Dennis Cortes and Eddie Cortes; daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Alex Mendoza; step-children, the Cabreras and the Villanuevas; sisters, Elena Chapparo and Antonia Roman; many grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Cortes was predeceased by his parents; and infant daughter, Sonia Luz.

Calling hours were at San Francisco Funeral Home in Aguada, Puerto Rico. He was laid to rest in Aguada on Friday, Jan. 26, 2001.

Blasé F. DeMatteo

NEW HAVEN -- Blasé (Benny) F. DeMatteo, 67, of 311 Eastern St., New Haven, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home.

Born in New Haven on Feb. 3, 1933, a son of the late Francesco and Rosalie DiMartino DeMatteo. He had worked for the city of New Haven Water Department for many years before his retirement.

He leaves two brothers, Pasquale DeMatteo of North Branford and Anthony J. DeMatteo of Meriden; five nephews; and three nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Alphonse S. DeMatteo; and a niece.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday at 1 p.m. in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. There will be no visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, is in care of arrangements.

Thomas W. Dennison

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Thomas Walter Dennison, 78, of 5817 S. Fourth St., died on Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Reston Hospital in Reston, Va., after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on March 5, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Dennison Landino and had lived in Meriden until he moved to Arlington. He attended local schools and graduated from the University of Connectict. Mr. Dennison was employed by the former H.E.W. Dept. in Washington , D.C., specializing in computer systems, retiring in 1975. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was an active member of the Republican National Committee and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Arlington. Mr. Dennison was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Arlington.

He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Natalie Dennison of Vernon and John (Jack) and Mary Dennison of Southington; four special cousins, Noreen Sawicki, Mary and Jane Casey and Betty Hogan; and by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his nephew, David J. Dennison of Southington.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in Mary Our Queen Catholic Church, 248 Savage St., Southington. Burial with military honors will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Harold A. Dominique

MERIDEN -- Harold A. Dominique, 50, of Meriden, died suddenly on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Connors, New Brunswick, Canada, on July 3, 1950, he was the son of the late Frank and Evelyn (Oakes) Dominique. He was educated in Canada and had resided in Meriden since 1976. Mr. Dominique was employed by Ulbrich Steel in Wallingford. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era, having served with the U.S. Army and he was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church in Meriden.

He is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Levesque of Southington, Mrs. Verna Gagnon of Summerfield, Fla., Mrs. Yolanda Michaud of Newington, Mrs. Edwina Cyr of New Britain, Linda Dominique of Plainville and Mrs. Maureen Dominique Connors, N.B., Canada; three brothers, Leandre Dominique of New Britain, Gerald Dominique of Connors, N.B., Canada and Francis Dominique of Southington; and 14 nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 9 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Burial with military honors will be in State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
