Clarence J. Simmons

OCALA, Fla. -- Clarence J. Simmons, 54, a retired truck driver for the city of Meriden, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000.

A native of Meriden, he moved to Ocala from Connecticut eight years ago. Mr. Simmons was Catholic and a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Meriden Rod and Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Susan L. Simmons of Ocala, Fla.; sons Jason Simmons of Ocala, Fla. and Lance Simmons of Bristol; a daughter, Suzzane Williams of Middletown; a brother, Henry Simmons of Southington; and two grandchildren, Nicole and Christopher.

The funeral was held in Florida on Dec. 12, however there will be a memorial service on Friday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 54 Park Ave., Meriden, CT.

Lorraine Lexton

SOUTHINGTON -- Lorraine LaFontaine Lexton, 69, of Garden Gate Road, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at home surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late William Lexton.

Born July 6, 1931, in Meriden, the daughter of the late Evelyn Vecchitto, Lorraine had been a resident of Southington for the past 40 years.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Merton Taylor of Plantsville, Marilyn and Frank Martorelli of Meriden, and Lisa and John Korcak of Middletown; three brothers, Richard and William LaFontaine, both of Nevada and Robert LaFontaine of Meriden; two sisters, Lois Mierzejewski of Cheshire and Patty Macri of Wolcott; two grandchildren, Colleen Carmody and Kyle Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday (tomorrow), Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations in memory of Lorraine may be made to the Franciscan Home Care Program, P.O. Box 4001, Meriden, CT 06450.

Graciniano Parrilla

MERIDEN -- Graciniano Parrilla, 85, of 318 Broad St., husband of Margarita Hernandez, died Jan. 13, 2001, in the Meriden Center after a long illness.

Born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, June 1, 1915, son of the late Martin and Adela Pagan Parrilla, Mr. Parrilla called Meriden his home since 1947. He spent his early years in Juncos and Caguas, Puerto Rico, married on Jan. 6, 1940, in Las Piedras, moved to Comerio, Puerto Rico and then on to Meriden. Mr. Parrilla, who was known to friends as "Chelo," was employed by International Silver, New Departure Division of General Motors, and the Meriden Boys Club from which he retired in 1977. In 1980 Mr. Parrilla was honored with the John D. Altobello Jr. Memorial Service Award for outstanding support on behalf of the Joseph T. Coffey Meriden Boys Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Margarita and Wayne L. Ogorzalek of Haddam, Magali and Charles Kupfer and Magda and Ernest Rizza, both of Meriden; seven grandchildren, Dawn Willette, Kim Cardona, Karen McLean, Keith Kupfer, Wayne and Wesley Orgorzalek; and 11 great-grandchildren; two sister, Honoria Miranda of Meriden and Ana Luisa Morales of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Parrilla was predeceased by his first grandchild, Tony Antolini; and three brothers, Antonio, Efrain and Arturo.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name can be made to the Joseph T. Coffey Meriden Boys Club, 15 Lincoln St., Meriden, CT 06451.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of Dr. Harold Kaplan and the many health care professionals whose dedication and assistance facilitated the care of our father at home. We are also most grateful to Dr. Joseph Tomanelli and the staff of the Meriden Center who took care of him during his final days.

Janice Yeager

BRANFORD -- Janice Augur Bartholomew Yeager, 89, of Leetes Island Road, wife of the late Harold Yeager, died Jan. 13, 2001, in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Harold Yeager

She was the mother of Dolores Libby of Wallingford, Eugene Bartholomew of Clinton, Bruce Bartholomew of Cromwell and William Yeager of Branford; sister of Beatrice Lindquist of North Haven; also survived by 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Newell Augur; and sisters, Eunice Brockett, Myrtle Nettleton and Arvenese Augur.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

Myrtle B. Gelo

NORTH BRANFORD -- Myrtle B. Wanamaker Gelo, 83, of Twin Lakes Road, died peacefully at home, Jan. 12, 2001, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Carl S. Gelo.

Born Sept. 13, 1917, a daughter of the late William and Hope Potter Wanamaker, she was employed for over 18 years by Yale-New Haven Hospital as a department head in medical records and was also the cafeteria manager at East Haven High School for many years. She was a member of the North Branford Congregational Church, and the Mr. and Mrs. Club and Women's Sewing Circle at the church. She was also a member of the Hamden Promenaders Square Dancing Club and the Daughters of the Nile, Pyremus Temple No. 82. Myrtle enjoyed square dancing, shopping, crafts and reading, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She was the mother and mother-in-law of Lawrence and Maureen Gelo of Guilford, Donald and Barbara Gelo of East Haven and David and Rosanne Gelo of Wallingford; sister of Ernest Wanamaker of Rehoboth, Mass. and Doris Thompson of Warwick, R.I.; also eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, William Wanamaker, Mae Wanamaker and Viola Vaughn.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the North Branford Congregational Church. Burial will be private. Contributions may be made to the CT Hospice, 61 Burban Drive Branford, or the North Branford Congregational Church, 1680 Foxon Road, North Branford, CT. Arrangements are with the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.

Thelma M. Graham

MERIDEN -- Thelma M. Graham, 78, of 435 Bradley Ave., died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at MidState Medical Center.

She was born in Cumberland, R.I., Jan. 3, 1923, a daughter of the late Peregrine and Lillian Mowry Horman. She was retired from the International Silver Company and did volunteer work for the Senior Center as a senior companion, providing comfort and assistance to housebound seniors.

She is survived by two sons, Dale Graham of New Haven and Wayne Graham Sr. of Meriden; five grandchildren, Eva Graham of Newington, Elizabeth Cheung of Barrington Hills, Ill., Wayne Graham Jr. of Wallingford, Jennifer Graham of Atlanta, Ga., and Jason Graham of Atlanta, Ga.; and seven great-grandchildren, Zackery Graham of Newington, Sebastian Graham, Brett Graham, Aaron Graham, all of Wallingford, Erin Graham of Atlanta, Ga., Cameron Cheung and Justin Cheung, both of Barrington Hills, Ill.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at 7 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Eric Henderson will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Graham's memory may be made to the Senior Citizens Center, 22 West Main St., Meriden, CT 06451.

Michael J. Owens

WEST SPRINGFIELD -- Michael J. Owens, 55, of 169 Main St., died Thursday in Springfield's Baystate Medical Center.

Born in Lincoln, Neb., he lived in Hartford most of his life before moving to West Springfield in 1994. He was a computer programmer for Cigna Insurance Company in South Windsor. He served in the United States Navy.

He leaves his father, Harold J. Owens of Anaheim, Calif.; his step-mother, Marie Owens of Anaheim, Calif.; two sisters, Linda Moses of Thornton, Colo. and Vicki Jensen of South Meriden; beloved uncle of six nieces and nephews, Kelly L'Heureux and Leonard Smallacombe, both of Meriden, David Smallacombe of Wallingford, John Moses of Boca Raton, Fla., Mathew Moses of Davidson, N.C., Mary Moses of Loveland, Colo.; and five great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main St., West Springfield, Mass., Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. with burial at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Save the Manatee Club, 500 North Maitland Ave., Maitland, Fla. 32751.

Arthur C. Roberts Jr.

MERIDEN -- Arthur C. Roberts Jr., 76, of Glenn Hills Road, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at the MidState Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Anna L. Lajoie Roberts.

Born in Hartford, Dec. 28, 1924, he was a son of the late Arthur C. Roberts Sr. and Mary C. Rae Roberts and had been a Meriden resident for many years. Mr. Roberts was employed by the General Electric Company in Plainville for 42 years until his retirement 14 years ago. He was a member and past president of the Silver Squares Square Dance Club of Wallingford and was an instructor in Round Dancing. He was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church in South Meriden and had been a Eucharistic Minister of the church.

Besides his beloved wife, Anna, he is survived by his five daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary Anne and Tom Jones of Cottage Grove, Ore., Carolyn Pontolillo of Meriden, Ruth E. and Vito Dalangauskas of North Port, Fla., Kathleen M. and Fred Mason of Victor, N.Y., and Anna R. L. Roberts of Meriden; his seven sons and six daughters-in-law, Arthur J. and Lynne Roberts of Berlin, Paul T. and Vivian Roberts of Torrington, George M. and Carole Roberts, and Stephen A. and Jody Roberts, all of Meriden, Joseph M. Roberts of Southington, James P. and Judy Roberts and Thomas F. and April Roberts, all of Meriden; 41 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Marian Sulima of Meriden; his brother and two sisters-in-law, Wilbur and Nancy Roberts of Ocala, Fla. and Catherine Roberts of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Roberts; and a brother, Thomas F. Roberts.

His family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Holy Angels Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. Gifts in his memory may be sent to Holy Angels Church, 915 Main St., South Meriden, CT 06451.

Louis J. Cuccaro

SOUTHINGTON -- Louis J. Cuccaro Jr., 68, husband of Betty Gray Cuccaro, of 22 Ciccio Road, let go his life in the presence of his family after a hard fought struggle with cancer, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, in his home.

He was born in Meriden, Feb. 17, 1933, he was a son of the late Louis J. and Carmella Angelillo Cuccaro Sr. He was a resident of the Meriden, Southington area all his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner of the Silver City Autobody on High Street. He had worked in the business for 46 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Donna Cuccaro of Columbia, S.C., David and Helen Cuccaro of Moodus and Steven and Cindy Cuccaro of Meriden; a daughter and son-in-law, Luanne and James Piatelli of Norwood, Mass.; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Steven, Crista, Nicholas, Samantha, Rachael and Taylor Cuccaro, also, Christina, Armanda and James Piatelli; a brother, Richard Cuccaro of Meriden; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Joseph Tellerico of Southington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Stephanie Cuccaro. Lou's family knows that if he had been able, he would have liked to say good-bye to all his many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Monday, Feb. 19, at 9:15 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Meriden, with his Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 a.m. He will be interred with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be visitation in the funeral home Sunday, Feb. 18, from 3 to 8 p.m. Mr. Cuccaro's family respectfully requests contributions be made to the Hospice of Central Connecticut, 205 W. Main St., New Britain, CT 06052.
