Josephine Pace
MERIDEN -- Josephine Pace, 79, of 80 Hanover St., died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2001, at MidState Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis A. Pace.
Born in Southington on March 15, 1921, she was the fifth of nine daughters born to the late Anthony and Mary (Turek) Slezak. She graduated from Southington High School and was a dedicated employee of the Silver City Glass Company. Mrs. Pace was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy C. Mayo of Meriden; a son, Anthony L. Pace of Turner, Maine; two granddaughters, Melody and Colleen Mayo, both of Meriden; two great-grandchildren, Zoe M. Pastore and Garrett A. Spaulding of Meriden; four sisters, Helen Cushing of Southington, Julie Zuchowski of South Meriden, Sister Sophie Slezak of Holyoke, Mass., and Sister Marian Slezak of Meriden; also by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Doris Sachek, Barbara Aduskevicz, Ann Prunckin and Ida Banjock.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Meriden. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Ergilia Palmieri
MERIDEN -- Ergilia Palmieri, 77, wife of the late Tommaso Palmieri, died Thursday in the Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Formiula, Caserta, Italy, July 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Guiseppe and Pasquelina Carusone Izzo. She was a resident of Meriden for the past 37 years. She retired from the Ilet Specialty, Wallingford, in 1985, after 14 years of employment. She was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rocco and Alba Palmieri of Cheshire; a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Pasquale Palumbo of Meriden; five grandchildren, Vincenzo and Antonio Palumbo and Thomas, Elisa and Celia Palmieri; three sisters, Antionetta Palmieri of Meriden, Concetta Sabino of Cheshire and Florida, and Teresa Izzo of France; two brothers, Antonio and Giovanni Izzo of Italy; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Rinaldo Izzo; and a sister.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Meriden, with her funeral liturgy in Holy Angels Church at 10 a.m. She will be buried with her husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Joseph Tomcik
SOUTHINGTON -- Joseph Tomcik, 87, of Prospect St., in Plantsville, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Tandem Health Care. He was the husband of the late Mary Walonski Tomcik.
Born Dec. 26, 1913, in Southington, a son of the late John and Mary (Stahon) Tomcik, Joseph was a lifelong resident. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving his country as a bombadier in World War II. Before retiring, Joe worked as a toolmaker at Tubular Products in New Britain. He was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church.
Joseph is survived by his step-daughter and her husband, Josephine and Ken Davis of Southington; a sister, Annie Muszynski of Southington; five grandchildren, Charles Valente of Hamden, Salvatore Valente of Bristol; Lynn Plaskowitz of Orange, Ken Davis of Maine, and Kim Jones of Wallingford; and 13 great-grandchildren. Joseph is predeceased by his brother, Frank Tomcik of New Britain; and his sister, Mary Hubeny of Plantsville.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. in the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Mary Macala
MERIDEN -- Mary Macala, 83, of 17 Prince St., wife of the late Henry Macala Sr., died on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on Oct. 22, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Martha (Olchefski) Siebert. She had resided in Meriden all her life and had attended Meriden schools. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
She is survived by three sons, Henry Macala Jr. and Willie Macala, both of Meriden, and Lawrence Macala of Durham; five grandchildren, Tracy, Jaclyn, Heather, Joshua and Naomi; one brother, Joseph Siebert of Meriden; two nieces; and one nephew.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery
in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association Research, 27 Allendale Drive, North Haven, CT 06472.
Anna A. Miley
UNCASVILLE -- Anna A. Miley, 76, wife of Clifford A. Miley, of 401 Old Colchester Road, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in Backus Hospital, Norwich, after a brief illness.
She was born in Allentown, Pa., June 14, 1923, a daughter of the late Amandes V. and Esther Kreiner Albright, and had lived in Meriden for 27 years before moving to Uncasville in 1986. Mrs. Miley was a teacher at Southington High School for 25 years, and at the time of her retirement in 1984, she was chairman of the English department, advisor to the school newspaper, and a scholarship to benefit students of Southington High School was established in her name. She graduated from Allentown High School, Cedar Crest College, and received her master's degree in education from Central Connecticut State College in 1962. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Meriden, the Faith Trumbull Chapter, D.A.R. of Norwich, the Ameranth Club of Center Lodge #79 A.F.&A.M. of Meriden, the Colonial Dames 16th Century Thomas Alney Chapter of Allentown, Pa., and the Cedar Crest Alumni Association.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Stephen H. Miley of Essex and Daniel J. Miley of Guilford; two sisters, Carolyn Lang of Macungee, Pa., and Louise Groner of Palisades PT, Calif.; two grandsons, Jonathan J. and Michael B. Miley; and a great-granddaughter, Luna Miley.
Friends may call at Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery

Joseph Palmieri
WEST HAVEN -- Joseph Palmieri, husband of the late Anna Annuziata, died Feb. 17, 2001, in West Haven.
He was the father of Lorena Capone and father-in-law of Robert Capone Sr.; brother of James Palmieri, Anna Maddalena and Mary Izzo. He is also survived by three grandchildren. He was predeceased by Salvatore and Alphonse Palmieri, Jessie Lavorgna, and Julia Dabbraccio.
Funeral services will be from the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green Wednesday morning, Feb. 21, at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Holy Infant Church at 10 a.m. The hours of visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Patrick J. Sullivan Sr.
MERIDEN -- Patrick J. Sullivan Sr., 46, husband of Gayen M. Davis Sullivan, of 19 Carter Ave., died unexpectedly Saturday night.
He was born in Meriden, Aug. 19, 1954, a son of Lorraine Cormier Sullivan of Meriden and Patrick Sullivan of Fort Pierce, Fla. He was a resident of the Meriden-Wallingford area all his life and was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, class of 1972. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era. He was employed for the past 15 years by the Abbott Ball Co. of West Hartford.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Eric M. Sullivan and Patrick J. (PJ) Sullivan Jr., both of Meriden; a brother, Gene T. Sullivan of Meriden; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Donna Sullivan-Curtis, Linda Dossin, and Carol and Trevor Thorpe, all of Meriden; six nephews, Cody Dossin, Matthew and Trevor Thorpe, Denny, Bradley and Timothy Tracey; and one niece, Jamie Curtis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 220 West Main St. He will be interred with military honors in Walnut Grove Cemetery. There will be visitation in the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Adelaide C. Zellman
MERIDEN -- Adelaide C. Zellman, 97, of 60 Sagamore Road, wife of Myron L. Zellman, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the Meriden Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in New York, N.Y., Jan. 6, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Rica Curtis. Mrs. Zellman had resided in Meriden since 1933 and owned and operated the Zellman Music Store for over 60 years with her husband. She was a member of Congregation B'Nai Abraham. Mrs. Zellman was an honorary member of the Piano Technician Guild.
Besides her husband, Myron, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and George Dominello of Merrell's Inlet, S.C.; a son, Daniel J. Zellman of New York City, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Jill Toutant of Coventry, Joanne Dominello of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Jeremy Zellman of Norwich. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in Temple B'Nai Abraham with Rabbi Gloria S. Rubin officiating. Burial will be in B'Nai Abraham Cemetery. Helen R. Bleck
MERIDEN -- Helen Rose Bleck, 85, wife of the late Richard R. Bleck, of 88 Whitney Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, in the Ridgewood Health Care Facility after a brief illness.
She was born in Hudson, N.Y., Sept. 6, 1915, a daughter of the late Albert and Eva Vandemark Rigging, she was a resident of Meriden and Englewood, Fla., for many years. She retired from the New Departure Division of General Motors after 25 years of employment. She was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Meriden, and the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Englewood, Fla. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judith B. and Armand D'Amico of Meriden; two grandsons, Ronald D'Amico and Wayne and his wife, Elizabeth D'Amico; two great-grandsons, James Montgomery D'Amico and Maximilian Nicolas D'Amico; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Grace Riggins; and a brother, Charles Riggins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service, Wednesday, Feb. 21, with visitation in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., at 11:30 a.m. with her funeral liturgy in the Church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be private held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Meriden. Mrs. Bleck had a great love for her church. Her family requests that she be honored with contributions to the Sunshine Committee, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.
