Cantor Sidney S. Keiser
MERIDEN -- Cantor Sidney S. Keiser, 80, of 126 Stoddard Drive, husband of Mildred (Saffron) Keiser, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Westfield Care and Rehabilitation after a lengthy illness.
Born in New York City on March 31, 1920, he was the son of the late Samuel and Lena (Katz) Keiser and had lived in Meriden for 23 years. He was a graduate of New Utrecht High School, Julliard School of Music and the Hebrew Union-College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Cantor Keiser served Temple B'nai Abraham for nine years prior to his retirement in 1985 and had also served congregations in Pennsylvania and Florida. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Chaplain and assistant medic in the U.S. Army on the USS Algonquin. He belonged to the Masons in Tampa, Fla., and was a 32nd degree Mason in Charlotte, N.C.
Besides his wife, Mildred, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul David and Chris Keiser of Naperville, Ill., and Stuart and Janie Keiser of Houston; three granddaughters; three grandsons; three great-grandsons; and by several nieces and nephews. Cantor Keiser was predeceased by a brother, Harry Keiser.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service to be held Thursday at Wellwood Cemetery, Long Island, N.Y., with Rabbi Gloria S. Rubin officiating. There will be no calling hours. A period of mourning will be observed at 126 Stoddard Drive, Meriden, from Thursday, March 22, through Wednesday, March 28. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Donald Y. Morneau
PORTLAND -- Donald Y. Morneau, 60, formerly of Portland, died March 2, 2001, at the Courtyard Nursing Home in Medford, Mass.
Born in Berlin, N.H., on July 25, 1940, he was the son of the late Thomas O. and Yvonne (Melanson) Morneau. Donald lived in Portland for 15 years and for most of his life in Biddeford, Maine, before moving to Boston. He had worked for Connecticut Valley Hospital as a cook and later with Standard Knapp Inc., in Portland and Middlesex Hospital.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Dean Smith, Annette and Shawn Brusik and Gail and Mike Kidder, all of Meriden; three brothers, Ernest J. Morneau of Portland, Maine., Joseph Morneault of Plano, Texas , and Paul E. Morneau of Portland; three sisters, Lorraine Brochu and Helene M. Morneau, both of Portland and Cecile Leciere of East Hartford; six grandchildren, Dean Jr., Danielle, Krifty, Samantha, Matthew and Allyson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Therrien and Doris Nelson.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 24, at 9 a.m. In the Church of St. Mary, Portland. Burial of Donald's ashes will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. There are no calling hours. Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland is in charge of arrangements.
John O'Brien
COCONUT CREER, Fla. -- John (Jackie) O'Brien, 69, of Coconut Creer, Fla., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001. He was the husband of the late Marion O'Brien.
Born in Meriden on Feb. 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Frankie and Bertha Zielke O'Brien of Meriden. Jackie was a boxer in his life and made a career of it. He also worked for many years as an iron worker at Milestone in Niantic. He resided in Florida since 1990. Jackie will certainly be missed by all but, now God will take care of him. We love you Jackie, your family.
He was survived by two children, Alan O'Brien of Berlin and Patricia Ann Sochien of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Robin and Stacey O'Brien of Berlin and Joshua and Rebecca Sochien of Massachusetts; two brothers, George O'Brien of South Meriden and Edward and Emma O'Brien of Meriden; three sisters, Muriel Neligon of South Meriden, Elinor and Dan Roche of Meriden and Audrey and Jose Calvo of South Meriden; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack will be laid to rest in Florida. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, March 24, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, West Main Street, Meriden.
Mollie Silver
MERIDEN -- Mollie Silver, 81, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in Florida.
Born March 27, 1919, in Chelsea, Mass., she was the wife of the late Herman A. Silver, a native of Meriden. Mollie was a former clerk typist at the Social Security Administration here in Meriden, an active member at the Temple B'nai Abraham and their sisterhood, also, she was active at the Meriden Senior Citizen Center for several years. Mollie served in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943-1944.
She is survived by a son, Howard Silver of New York City, and the mother of Richard Silver, her son who passed away at age seven; also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Gorin of Chelsea, Mass., and Jean Bloom of Newton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service, Friday, March 23, at 10 a.m., at B'nai Abraham Cemetery, Corrigan Avenue, Meriden, with Rabbi Gloria S. Rubin officiating. Marie J. Bineau
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Marie J. Lucier Bineau, 68, of Sullivan Street, died March 10, 2001, at Southern Maine Medical Center after a long illness. She was the wife of Roland J. Bineau Sr.
She lived in Wallingford from 1956 to 1965 in Miller's Trailer Court (now known as Western Sands.) She worked for a time for the former Revere Corp. and for the former Unimax Switch Corporation.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Norman Lucier of Groton, Roy Lucier of Wallingford and Paul Lucier of Biddeford, Maine; and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, David Lucier of Killingworth, who died in 1994.
Roselynn Maldonado
MERIDEN -- Roselynn Maldonado, 24, of Wood Street, Meriden, beloved wife of Luis Maldonado, died Monday, March 19, 2001 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Born in Meriden on Jan. 23, 1977, she was the daughter of Manuel Maldonado of Cheshire and Maria DeJesus of Meriden.
Besides her loving husband and parents, she is survived by a daughter, Layshka Cosme of Meriden; a brother, Jose Maldonado of Wallingford; three sisters, Delma Ortiz and Ana Pagan, both of Meriden and Maria Rivera of Waterbury; two uncles, Wilfredo and Juan DeJesus Jr., both of Meriden; four aunts, Virginia, Sonia and Nellie DeJesus and Carmen Gonzales, all of Meriden; four nephews, Jorge and Joel Ortiz, both of Meriden and Alex and Edwin Rivera, both of Waterbury; four nieces, Ana, Victoria, Sophia and Jasmin Vargas, all of Meriden; also by her maternal grandmother, Arcelia DeJesus of Meriden; two special best friends, Maritza Jimenez and Liza Moreno; and many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Jorge Iran Galarza; her paternal grandparents, Felix and Julia Maldonado; her maternal grandfather, Juan DeJesus; and a niece, Ida Joann Ortiz.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 23, at St. Joseph Church, West Main Street, Meriden. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Relatives and friends may call at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden, on Thursday, March 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family in Roselynn's memory.
Robert E. Merunka
MIDDLETOWN -- Robert E. Merunka, 85, of Oak Ridge Drive, Middletown, beloved husband of Lucille (Bauer) Merunka, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Middlesex Hospital.
He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Charles and Anne (Bartunek) Merunka. He was employed as a traffic manager with International Paper Co., in Meriden. He retired from Croiser Printing. He was a former member of the Connecticut Square Dance Callers Association and a caller with the Wallingford Silver Square Dance Club. He was also a charter member of the Middletown Square Dance Club. He was an avid bowler at the Wallingford Lanes.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and John Schubert of Lancaster, Pa. and Sue and David Wesoloski of Middletown; a brother, Raymond Merunka of Paris, France; nine grandchildren, Greg and Anne Schubert of Pittsburgh, Pa., Steve Schubert of Vero Beach, Fla., Liz and Steve Woralyla of Crofton, Md., Joan and Hunter Johnson of Lancaster, Pa., Jerry Schubert of Orange, N.J., Katie Schubert of Berkeley, Calif., David Wesoloski of Riverside, Krissy Wesoloski of New Haven and Karen Wesoloski of Middletown; six great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral liturgy in St. Pius X Church, Middletown. Spring burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Middletown. Thelma M. Underwood
WALLINGFORD -- Thelma M. Underwood, 75, of 23 Jones Road, wife of the late Samuel H. Underwood, Jr., died Monday, March 19, 2001, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
She was born in Whitefield, N.H., Dec. 17, 1925, a daughter of the late John and Ethelyn Moye Bedell. Until her retirement, she was employed as a telephone operator with Southern New England Telephone. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by two sons, John Underwood of Norwich and James Underwood of Meriden; two daughters, Janis Underwood of New Haven and Judith Underwood-Sherban of Wethersfield; a sister, Priscilla Geegan of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Leslie M. Whalen
MIDDLETOWN -- Leslie MacDuff Whalen, 33, of 192 Russell St., Middletown, beloved wife of David C. Whalen and loving mother of Morgan Whalen, age 2, died peacefully surrounded by her devoted family on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the home of her parents, Robert and Carolyn MacDuff of Meriden.
Born in New York, N.Y., on July 19, 1967, Leslie lived in Meriden until her marriage in 1994. After graduating from Maloney High School in 1985, she attended Trinity College in Burlington, Vt. She earned an associate's degree and certification as a drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselor from Middlesex Community-Technical College, and a bachelor of science degree through Charter Oak College. She was employed in the Turning Points Program at MidState Medical Center, east campus.
In addition to her husband, her daughter and her parents, Leslie is survived by her father-in-law, James Whalen of Wallingford; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Diane Whalen of Boston, Mass., Wendy and Stuart Jones of Madison and Pamela and Robert MacDuff of Durham; aunts and uncles Renee and Sidney DuPont of Newport Beach, Calif., Kathleen and Paul Akasie of Kensington, Bette and Roger MacDuff of Meriden, Karen Curtiss of Manchester and Noella Graveline of North Augusta, Ga.; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Carole Whalen.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Ryan W. Farley
CHESHIRE -- Ryan William Farley, 19, of 1212 Side Hill Drive, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ryan was born Aug. 15, 1981, in Paterson, N.J., a son of Glenn and Sheila (Dwyer) Farley. He was a graduate of Cheshire High School, class of 1999, where he was president of the student senate and played varsity baseball. He was a student at Boston College, class of 2003 and he was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church.
Besides his parents of Cheshire, he leaves a sister, Kaitlyn Farley of Cheshire; maternal grandparents, William and Marie Dwyer of West Hartford; paternal grandparents, Harold and Mona Farley of Brick, N.J.; aunts and uncles, William Dwyer of Newington, Thomas and Lorna Dwyer, Neil and Brenda Dwyer of West Hartford, Darlene Farley of Pompton Plains, N.J., and Vanessa and Marc Fiedler of Verona, N.J.; and several cousins; Ryan also leaves a special angel, Angela DeSilva of Cheshire. Ryan's strength, courage and sense of humor will live on through those who new and loved him.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mt.
