Frederick J. Petrossi
BRISTOL -- Frederick Joseph Petrossi of Bristol, formerly of West Hartford, died in his 85th year of life on Sunday, March 4, 2001. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Cianfaglione Penta Petrossi.
He was the cherished father of Louis F. Petrossi of California, Frederick John Petrossi of New Britain, Barbara Anne Ficarrotta of Florida, Robert J. Petrossi of Florida and Peter G. Petrossi of Kensington; the much loved grandfather of 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and the respected brother of Falda Petrossi of Wethersfield, Helen Tauro of Massachusetts and Emma Raymond of Nevada.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, West Hartford. He will be buried with his wife of 35 years at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, immediately following the funeral liturgy.
Joseph M. Soos Jr.
WALLINGFORD -- Joseph M. "Doc" Soos Jr., 51, of Wallingford, died unexpectedly Monday, March 5, 2001.
Born in Wallingford, March 10, 1949, a son of the late Joseph M. Soos Sr. and Charlotte Polnar Soos, he was a lifelong resident here. He had been employed at Chromealloy Connecticut in Wallingford for many years. Affectionately known as "Doc" by his many friends, he was a member of the Wallingford Lodge of Elks No. 1365 and was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his niece and her husband, Kimberly and Jamie Perrotti of Manlius, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Anita Soos of the Stony Creek section of Branford; grand-nephews, Benjamin and Matthew Perrotti; a grand-niece, Annie Perrotti; his aunts and uncle, Wanda and Malcolm Champagne and Violet Soos, all of Wallingford; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, John Soos.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. The Wallingford Lodge of Elks will conduct a ritual at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery
on a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 No. Lakeview Ave., Chicago, Ill 60614-1889.
Katherine P. Toce
CHESHIRE -- Miss Katherine Power Toce, 11, of 400 Buckland Drive, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at her home.
Katherine was born in Meriden, May 16, 1989, a daughter of Stephen A. and Nadine (Power) Toce and had been a Cheshire resident since 1991, formerly living in Wallingford. At the time of her death, she was a sixth-grade student at Highland Elementary School. She was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church; a member of Girl Scout Troop 300 and was formerly active with Cheshire Youth Theater and the Rhythm Dance Studio.
Besides her parents, of Cheshire; she leaves a brother, Michael S. Toce of Cheshire; her maternal grandparents, John F. and Paula (Good) Power of Lexington, Mass.; and several aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Helen (Noel) Toce.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire for a Mass at 11:15 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery. George Zocco Sr.
HAMDEN -- George Zocco Sr., 87, of 125 Putnam Ave., Hamden, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. Petrucci Zocco.
He was born in Modica, Sicily, Italy, on April 3, 1913, a son of the late Natalie and Gaetana Zocco. He had worked as a self-employed building contractor until 1960, then later as a hand finisher for United Nuclear Corp., retiring in 1976.
He leaves a daughter, Elizabeth Rakich of Berlin; a son, George L. Zocco Jr. of Hamden; a sister, Concetta (Connie) Tartaglia of Wallingford; also four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Natale (Nate) Zocco; a brother, John Zocco; and sisters Grace Davino and Rosaria (Rose) Falco.
His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, Friday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Rita's Church, Hamden, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Andrew R. D'Agostino
MERIDEN -- Andrew R. D'Agostino, 80, of 163 Carter Ave. Ext., husband of Lillian (Totz) D'Agostino, died on Monday, March 5, 2001, at Westfield Care and Rehab Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Meriden, March 10, 1920, the son of the late Anthony and Assunta D'Agostino, he was a lifelong resident of Meriden and a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1938. Mr. D'Agostino was employed by the Revere Corp., and Corametrics in Wallingford, and was a barber in Meriden for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. Mr. D'Agostino was a parishioner of St. Mary Church.
Besides his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, he is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Stankewich of Groton, Andrea and Walter Beebe of North Carolina and Christine Chapel of Meriden; a son, Edward D'Agostino of Mystic; also are his pride and joy, his nine grandchildren, Charles Stankewich, Michael Stankewich and his wife, Colleen, Paul Stankewich and his wife, Tiffany, Kimberly Bagos and her husband, Rudy, Jason Beebe and his wife, Crystal, Kristi Schwartz and her husband, John, Cathy, Kerry and Scott Magrath; three great-grandchildren complete the family circle; also, he is survived by a sister, Edith Brandl of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Nora Lucas, Antoinette Barillaro and Lucy Lorbiefski; and two brothers, Edward and Alfred D'Agostino.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Adam M. Fleck
WALLINGFORD -- Adam M. Fleck, 35, of 178 Clifton St., Wallingford, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2001, at MidState Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 1, 1966, in Meriden, a son of the late Sylvester and Alice (Marowski) Fleck. Adam was employed as a driver for 21st Century Moving Co., in Wallingford. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Adam is survived by a brother, Jeff and his wife, Linda Fleck of Wallingford; a sister, Jennifer and her husband, Larry Boucher of Wallingford; a niece and nephew, Rachel Dickess and Mike Fleck; and some special friends, Russel and Amy Trombly and their son, Nathan, Ken and Marge Osterberg and Chris Todd.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 9, at 11:15 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church, Akron St., Meriden. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Relatives and friends may call at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden, on Friday, March 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
Lena A. Gurskis
KENSINGTON -- Lena A. Gurskis, 90, wife of Joseph Gurskis, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Walnut Hill Care Center in New Britain following a lengthy illness.
Born in Norwich, July 10, 1910, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Chucta Dobensky. Mrs. Gurskis had resided in Kensington since 1955 and had been employed in the Hartford IRS office for 20 years. She was an active member of SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Meriden. Mrs. Gurskis was the past secretary of the Berlin Board of Appeals.
Besides her husband, Joseph, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Jennifer Gurskis of Garden City, N.Y., and Joseph and Elizabeth Gurskis of Great Falls, Va.; four grandchildren, Emily, Edward, Elizabeth H. and Elizabeth C. Gurskis.
The funeral will be held on Friday, March 9, at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10:30 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Meriden for a funeral service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. A parastas service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
Stanley J. Lincavicks
SOUTHINGTON -- Stanley J. Lincavicks, 80, of Meriden Avenue, Southington, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary Moriarity Lincavicks who died in 1997.
Born May 4, 1920, in Southington, the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Gladke Lincavicks, Stanley had lived in Middletown before moving back to Southington in 1960. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a quality control inspector for Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford for many years, retiring in 1986.
He is survived by his six children and their spouses, Pat and Anthony Aloisi of Middletown, Judith and Pierre Dansereau of West Suffield, Roy and Becky Lincavicks of Winsted, Lynda and Michael Healey of Coventry, Lori and John Perron of Bristol and Robert and Debbie Lincavicks of Southington; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Jerry Fissette of Meriden and Roberta Peters of Meriden; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by his son, John Lincavicks.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 9, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church, Main Street, Middletown. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
Mary Lee Norton
CANTERBURY -- Mary Lee Norton, 49, of Canterbury, a daughter of the late Harold and Ann Norton of Southington, died Monday March 5, 2001, at Backus Memorial Hospital in the presence of her family and others who loved her dearly.
She was born in Hanover, N.H., May 12, 1951.
She is survived by three brothers and their wives, Paul and Jean Norton of Southington, Robert and Alice Norton of Londonderry, N.H., and James and Debbie Norton of Acworth, Ga.; and two nieces, Amanda Laporte and Katie Norton of New Hampshire; Mary also leaves behind the following individuals that she shared the last 20 years with, who will miss the unconditional love and joy she brought to them each day, Ed and Diane Lucey, Delia Nass, Dawn Bellows, Claude Poitras; her lifelong friend, Mercedes Rodriguez; and last but not least, her mentor of the last nine years, Donna Wheaton Poitras.
A service will be held on Friday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Canterbury on Route 169 at the junction. At the convenience of the family, burial will be in Randolph, Vt., alongside her parents, Harold and Ann Norton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 443 Franklin Ave., Hartford, CT 06114-2517.
