Charles E. "Red" Thompson
2004-06-09
Charles E. "Red" Thompson, 76, of New Milford, Ct., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at New Milford Health and Rehab Center. He was the husband of the late Mary Herring Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was born in New Milford, Ct., July 25, 1927, son of the late Charles H. and Lucy Smalley Thompson.
He worked in the maintenance department of Winchester Electronics for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a former member of the Eagle Club of New Milford.
Mr. Thompson is survived by 2 sons, Charles H. Thompson of New Milford and Ronald Thompson of Kent, Ct.; 2 daughters, Donna Bryant of New Milford and Gail Barto of Dover Plains, New York; 2 sisters, Harriet DelRossa of New Milford and Anna Cross of Naugatuck, Ct.; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Mary Pelletier Gee.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St. in New Milford, Ct. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, New Milford.
Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Contributions in his memory may be made to New Milford Hospital Cancer Center, 21 Elm Street, New Milford, Ct. 06776.

Dominic J. Bedini
2004-06-09
Dominic J. "Poni" Bedini, 84, of Ridgefield, died on Monday evening, June 7, 2004 at Laurel Ridge Nursing & Skilled Care Center, Ridgefield.
Mr. Bedini was born in Ridgefield, April 9, 1920, son of Louis and Antonia (Zandri) Bedini. He attended local schools and graduated from Ridgefield High School.
A World War II US Army veteran, Mr. Bedini was a paratrooper serving with the 101st Airborne Division, "the Screaming Eagles" and participated in the "D Day" invasion at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Taken as a Prisoner of War, Mr. Bedini also was wounded in action and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal.
A mason contractor in the Ridgefield area for sixty years, he retied in 1985.
A sister Mary F. Braun of Wilton and several nieces and nephews survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:15AM in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will take place in Fairmount Cemetery, Sutton, Province of Quebec, Canada.
There will be no calling hours.

Elton Frederick Jaderlund
2004-06-09
Elton Frederick Jaderlund, 84, a lifelong resident of Weston, died on Monday (June. 7) at Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of the late Kathleen Conroy Jaderlund.
Mr. Jaderlund was born. in Weston on September 17, 1919, a son of the late Emil and Ella Peterson Jaderlund. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 44th Infantry Division, United States Army. He participated in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and among other medals, received two Purple Hearts. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Jaderlund had been employed by the Weston School System for many years.
Survivors include his sister, Eleanor Jaderlund of West Redding, and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, Frederick Elton Jaderlund.
Services will be held at the graveside in St. Mary Cemetery, Norwalk, on Friday (June 11) at 11 a.m.
There are no calling hours.
Contributions in memory of Mr. Jaderlund may be made to the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 544, Georgetown, CT 06829, or to Nursing and Home Care, P.O. Box 489, Wilton, CT 06897.
Arrangements are by the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown.

Madeline Davio Johnson
2004-06-09
Mrs. Madeline Davio Johnson, 82, of Southbury, formerly Danbury, died Saturday, June 5th at River Glen in Southbury. She was the widow of Charles Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 14, 1922 in Danbury, daughter of the late Eugenio and Carmella Davio. She was a life-long resident of Danbury and had worked in food service at Danbury Hospital for many years.
She leaves one brother, Satem Davio of Leander, TX.
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 10 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Main Street South, Southbury. Burial following in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury. No calling hours. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.

James E. Duren
2004-06-09
James E. Duren, Jr., 49, of Danbury, died at Danbury Hospital on Monday, June 7th, after a long term illness with kidney dysfunction. He was born in New York, N.Y., on August 29, 1954, son of Jean Marie (Green) Duren of Danbury and the late James E. Duren, Sr. He attended Danbury High School.
James was a life long resident of Danbury and was affiliated with several churches in the community.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Justin, of Naples, Fl.; two sisters, Kim and her husband, Doug Brown of Danbury, Vivian "Sweetie" and her husband, Ricky Brandon of Ca; seven brothers and their wives, Brian Duren, Billy & Shari Smith, Bobby and Jonnie Mae Smith, Marty Curry, Marlon and Yvonne Duren, Lark and Meek Duren, Curtis and Cynthia Jones. He is also survived by his aunt, Gail Snow Bond; several nieces and nephews, Tamika Green, Michael Ross, David Melendez; and a host of aunts, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Blanche Bond, a sister, Cindy Melendez, a brother, George Daniel Hill, and a great niece, Jazmin Esperanza.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Thursday, June 10th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

Francis G. Damici
2004-06-09
Francis G. Damici, 82, of 19 Simeon Road. in Bethel, formerly of Danbury, beloved husband of Carmella (Barbarotto) Damici, fell into the loving arms of the lord, at his home on Monday, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Francis was born in Danbury, September 10, 1921, son of the late, Louis and Theresa (Talarico) Damici. He attended Danbury schools and served in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he was a platoon leader during the Battle of the Bulge. During the battle, he was injured and was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. He also fought in the Central European and the Rhineland Campaigns and received the Medal of Honor, for his work as an army scout. He also received the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, American Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, two Overseas Bars, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war years, he worked in the Danbury hatting industry and then went on to work as a material cutter for the former Castro Convertible Company, until their closing in Danbury. At that time he went to work for the Gar Electroforming Company of Danbury, until his retirement. He was also a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 61 and the Catholic War Veterans.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children; Richard Damici and wife, Carolyn, of Bethel, Terry Roudenis and husband, Peter, Grace Tagliavento and husband, Art and Gary Damici and wife, Nancy, all of Danbury, as well as four brothers; Carmen DeMici, Joseph DeMici and Rino DeMici, all of Danbury and Armondo Damici, of Bethel, nine grandchildren; Amy and Michael Damici, Ryan and Kimberly Roudenis, Lisa and Neil Tagliavento and Katy, Lindsay and J.D. Damici. He was also predeceased by a brother, Louis DeMici
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, on Friday morning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made, to the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.

Hilda N. Monti
2004-06-21
Hilda N. Monti, 71, of Ridgefield, wife of Salvatore C. Monti, died on Saturday evening, June 19, 2004, at the Laurel Ridge Nursing and Skilled Care Center, Ridgefield.

Mrs. Monti was born in Stamford, October 1, 1932, a daughter of Charles and Ellen (Doyle) Nagot and was raised in New Canaan, attended local schools and graduated from New Canaan High School in the Class of 1950. She then attended the Washington School for Secretaries of Manhattan, N.Y. and the Merrill School of Business of Stamford, Conn.

In early years, Mrs. Monti was employed by the United Way of Fairfield County and the Schick Corporation of Stamford. For the past 35 years, Mrs. Monti was employed by the Town of Ridgefield, at Town Hall, where she worked in the Tax Department, Finance Department and Selectman's Office. In 1998, Mrs. Monti was selected the Town Hall Employee of the Year.

In past years, Mrs. Monti was active in the Ridgefield PTO at the Veteran's Park School, Barlow Mountain School, the East Ridge Junior High School and Ridgefield High School. She was also a former Girl Scout leader, an instructor of Religious Education and member of St. Mary's Parish and active in the Ridgefield Women's Club.

In addition to her husband of 49 years, four daughters: Sally Proto and her husband Michael, of West Chester, Pa.; Diane Monti Catania and her husband Joseph, MD, of Bridgewater; Andrea Lavery and her husband Robert, of West Hartford; and Priscilla Monti Pellenberg and her husband Wayne, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters: Eileen Apy, of New Canaan; and Judith Kimbell and her husband William, of Fairfield, and five grandchildren: Brendan Lavery, Siobhan Lavery, Joseph Catania, Andrew Catania and Charles Pellenberg survive her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m., in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.

Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Ann Zavory
2004-06-21
Ann Zavory, 82, of Norwalk, wife of the late Gabor Zavory, died Sunday morning at the Notre Dame Convalescent Home, Norwalk.

Mrs. Zavory was born in Bresno, Czechoslovakia on July 26, 1921, daughter of the late John and Mary Repka Rastocky and had resided in Norwalk for most of her life. She had been employed by Pepperidge Farm, in Norwalk, for over 25 years and was a member of the Calvin Reformed Church, Norwalk and the Sokol Club.

She is survived by three sons: Kenneth Zavory and his wife Ann, of Fairfield; David Zavory and his wife Joanne, of Norwalk; and John Zavory and his wife Lynn, of Danbury; two sisters: Irene Criscolou, of Florida; and Mary Saviano, of Westport; six grandchildren: Joseph, Michael, Dana, Kristen, Meghan, and Aerin and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Ladislau Rastocky.

Services will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m., in the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, with the Rev. Leslie E. Martin, pastor of the Calvin Reformed Church, Norwalk, officiating.

Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m., until the time of the service.

Edith G. Brown McLaren
2004-06-21
Edith G. Brown McLaren, 102, of Barnwell Nursing Home, Valatie, N.Y., died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at the home after a long illness.

Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Brown and Matie Wilkins Brown and wife of the late Edward Walter McLaren.

She had resided at Barnwell Nursing Home since 1978 and was educated at Cohoes and Watervliet schools where she was the valedictorian of the Watervliet High School, Class of 1915; a graduate of Troy Conservatory of Music for piano and organ, Class of 1919 and an advanced studies class in 1933.

Mrs. McLaren played piano for dance studios, silent movies and stage shows. She was a former member of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church; a church organist for many years and a member of the West Sand Lake Grange and Waterford Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons: Edward McLaren, of Danbury; and Eugene McLaren, of Poestenkill; a daughter, Mary Beck, of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Herbert Brown III.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family.

Interment Oakwood Cemetery, in Troy.

Joseph F. Dunleavy
2004-06-21
Joseph F. Dunleavy, 83, of Kent, formerly of Ridgefield, died on Friday morning, June 18, 2004 at his home.

Mr. Dunleavy was the husband of the late Eleanor (Conti) Dunleavy.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., September 24, 1920, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kane) Dunleavy, he moved with his family at an early age to Danbury. There he attended local schools and graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1938.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 192nd Field Artillery, he served in Guadacanal, Northern Solomons, New Guinea and Luzon and was a recipient of the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Star.

Mr. Dunleavy was a retired clerk of the U.S. Postal Service in Ridgefield.

A resident of Ridgefield since 1952 coming from Danbury, he was a resident of Kent for the past 10 years.

A son, Timothy F. Dunleavy, a sister Nancy Mortimer, both of Danbury; a brother-in-law, Ernest Conti and his wife Cynthia, of Ridgefield survive him.

Graveside Funeral Services with Military Honors will take place on Wednesday, at 1 p.m., in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m.
