Dorothy O. Struble

WALLINGFORD -- Dorothy O. Seelye Struble, 72, beloved wife of 52 years of Vern R. Struble of Mohawk Drive, Wallingford, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center.

Born in St. Marys, Pa., March 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Grasser Seelye, she had been a Wallingford resident for the past 44 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Yalesville.

Besides her husband, Vern, she is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul R. Struble and Kathy Struble of North Cumberland, R.I., Joseph S. Struble and Tracey Struble of Meriden, Timothy E. Struble and Janis Struble of Wallingford and Wallingford Fire Chief Peter J. Struble and Joanne Struble of Wallingford; her nine grandchildren, Jason, Tara, Stephen, Elizabeth, Amanda, Jacob, Mallory, Danielle and Matthew Struble; her sister, Elizabeth Seelye of St. Marys, Pa.; her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Mary Seelye of St. Marys, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Seelye and Irene Seelye.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Because of her love for children, the family suggests that gifts in her memory may be sent to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106.

Ralph Ricca

WEST HAVEN -- Ralph Ricca, 75, husband of Carmela "Connie" Lombardi Ricca of 48 Claudia Drive, West Haven, died Feb. 28, 2001, in Branford.

He was born in New Haven, Sept. 7, 1925, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine Puglia Ricca. For 26 years he was the owner of Ricca's Gulf Service in New Haven and later was employed by Yale New Haven Hospital until his retirement in 1990.

He was the father of Janet Ricca-Rinella of West Haven and Patricia Drezek of Meriden; brother of Vincent Ricca of New Haven and Joseph Ricca of Gainsville, Ga., also two grandsons, Craig Drezek and his wife, Jamie Lynn Drezek of Seymour, Christopher Drezek and his fiancée, Alisa Lerz of South Windsor and his beloved angel great-granddaughter, Alexandra Bryce Drezek (her special "Poppy.") He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Roger Drezek.

Funeral services from the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green, Saturday at 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church at 11:15 a.m. The hours for visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

James A. Washburn

WALLINGFORD -- James A. Washburn, 62, of High Street, Wallingford, lost his courageous battle to colon cancer on Thursday, March 1, 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna of Wallingford; his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Jamie, Joe and Sarah Owens of Presque Island, Maine; and many other relatives.

A memorial service will be celebrated at the Beacon House Church, located at 967 Yale Ave., Wallingford, Saturday, March 10, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the spring in Monroe, Maine. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be sent to the Wallingford Visiting Nurse Association, 135 N. Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

Estelle Bodian

NEWINGTON -- Estelle Bodian, 70, of Newington, formerly of Meriden, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at New Britain General Hospital.

Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Celia (Marcus) Bodian.

She leaves a brother, Bernard L. Bodine and his wife Anne of West Hartford; an aunt, Esther Schnier of Boca Raton, Fla.; a loving niece, Mala Bodine of West Hartford; a great-nephew, Colby Bonnett; and a great-niece, Ashley Bonnett.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, at noon in the chapel of Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with private interment in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association of Connecticut, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Louise Boni

WALLINGFORD -- Louise Marotto Boni, 88, formerly of Christian Street and East Side Terrace, Wallingford, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at New Britain General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Boni.

Born in Southington, Aug. 10. 1912, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Campagnano Marotto, she had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She had been a cafeteria worker at Dag Hammarskjold Middle School until her retirement, and was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony B. and Barbara Boni of Newington and John W. and Johanna Boni of Wallingford; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Boni, Jane Lenares, Douglas Boni, Beth Boni, John Boni Jr., Mary Boni and Nicholas Boni; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Lenares and Nicholas Lenares; a brother, Charles Marotto of Southington; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Leone; and four brothers, Robert, John, James and Joseph Marotto.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 9 until 10 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Franciscan Home Care, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

Peter Celella

SOUTHINGTON -- Peter Cellella, 68, of 77 Masthay Circle, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Anita (Laplic) Cellella.

Born Oct. 31, 1932, in Southington, the son of the late Peter and Florence (Mazzera) Cellella. He was a member of Mary Our Queen Church and was a retired construction manager for Olympus Corp. A veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War, where he received two Bronze Service Stars.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Peter G. and his wife, Grace Merritt Celella of West Hartford, Lawrence and his wife, Mara Celella of Southington; a daughter, Liane and her husband, Al Liseo of Southington; four brothers, Anthony and Geno Celella of Southington, Ralph and Robert Celella of Florida; three sisters, Marie Rossi, Judy Wasik, both of Southington, Jeanette Norris of Farmington; five grandchildren, Lawrence and Andy Liseo, Michaela and Jessica Celella and Charles Propheter; and 40 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Mary Our Queen Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery, with military honors. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Mildred H. Draffan

EAST HAVEN -- Mildred H. Johnson Draffan, 79, of 10 Clancy St., East Haven, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in Meriden. She was the wife of Alexander G. Draffan.

Born Sept. 11, 1921, in New Haven, a daughter of the late Herbert and Anna Dambrouckas Johnson, she was employed for many years as a clerk in the medical records department of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Mildred was a member of Our Lady of Pompeii Church and its Ladies Guild.

She was the mother of Alexander Draffan Jr. of Huntington Beach, Calif., Douglas Draffan of East Haven, Joyce Ann Krupp of Wallingford and Denise Draffan of East Haven; sister of Dorothy Burian of Cheshire; grandmother of eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary McKenzie.

Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

Gerald L. Iben

MERIDEN -- Gerald L. Iben, 63, husband of Carolyn DeMaria Iben, of 386 Reservoir Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in St. Elizabeth Center of the Curtis Home after a brief illness.

He was born in Hazleton, Pa., Nov. 20, 1937, a son of the late Lawrence and Catherine Chincola Iben, and was a resident of Meriden most of his life. Mr. Iben retired in 1995 from the city of Meriden, where he had worked for 25 years as a mechanic in the city garage. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially walks with his dog. He was also a sports fan, but he will best be remembered by family and friends for Carolyn's and his dancing.

Besides his wife, he is survived by their son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Marcia Iben of Bethany; their daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Robert Salvatore of Waterbury; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Adam and Patrick Iben and Angela and Vincent Salvatore; a sister, Janet Riberio of Meriden; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.

All are invited to his funeral service Friday, March 2, at 9:15 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Meriden with his funeral liturgy in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 a.m. He will be interred in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. His family feels it will be most fitting to have expressions of sympathy in the form of donations to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church or School, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

Edward D. Rice

MERIDEN -- Edward Duane Rice, 49, of Lincoln Street, Meriden, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at his residence.

Born in New Haven, Oct. 8, 1951, he was a son of the late Harold and Dorothy Reed Rice, and had been employed at Fireguard Corporation in North Haven.

He is survived by two daughters, Angelica Doolittle of Norwich and Christine Rice; two sons, Duane Rice and his wife, Jessica Rice of South Windsor and Michael Rice; two sisters, Rosemary Kaliscak and her husband, Robert Kaliscak of Wallingford and Carol Rice of Hamden; five brothers, Thomas Rice of Wallingford, Robert Rice and his wife, Ann Rice of Guilford, Harold Rice of East Haven, William Rice of Meriden and Richard Rice of Deep River; his companion, Lona Demers, with whom he resided in Meriden; five grandchildren, Zack, Josh and Caitlin Breau and Nicky and Alex Rice; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Patty Adamo; and a brother, Alan Rice.

His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Friday, March 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the Rev. Kevin M. Dillon will officiate at a funeral service in the funeral home. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 8, at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.

Josephine Rizza

MERIDEN -- Miss Josephine Rizza of 23 Davis St., died on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her home.

Born in Meriden, Nov. 8, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Louise (Polio) Rizza, she had resided in Meriden all her lifetime and was educated in Meriden schools. Miss Rizza was employed by New Departure Hyatt Bearing Division of General Motors until her retirement.

She is survived by a nephew, James O'Brien of Wallingford; a niece, Ann Curtis of Plainville; and a brother-in-law, Wilbur O'Brien of Meriden. She was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas Rizza; and a sister, Ann (Rizza) O'Brien.

The funeral service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be held on Saturday, March 3, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. to the funeral service.
