Brittney S. Hettrich

WALLINGFORD -- Brittney Susanne Hettrich, infant daughter of Dale L. Hettrich Sr. and Valerie L. Vetro Hettrich of South Cherry St., Wallingford, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 in Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her three brothers, Dale L. Hettrich Jr., Justin Hettrich and Timothy Hettrich, all of Wallingford; her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Susanne Vetro of Northford; her paternal grandmother, Dolores (Mrs. Edgar) Hettrich of East Haven; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

Rebecca L. Ibitz

Rebecca L. Ibitz, 21, of Bethlehem, formerly of Southington, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2002.

She was born in New Britain on Nov. 11, 1980, the daughter of Christina (Facondini) Ibitz of Southington and the late Frank C. Ibitz, Jr. She was a 1998 graduate of Southington High School, and received her Associate's Degree from Paul Smith's College in Paul Smith's, New York in 2000. She worked as a tree removal specialist for Southbury Tree Co., and planned to further her education to receive her arborist's license.

Besides her mother, Christina, she leaves a sister, Elizabeth Ibitz of Avon; her paternal grandmother, Corrine Ibitz of Farmington; an uncle, Ronald Ibitz of Noblesville, Ind.; and her predeceased uncle, Richard Facondini, who died during Vietnam; she also leaves several cousins, including the Guiditta family, Yolanda, Alfred, Stephen, Susan, Robert and Christopher of Waterbury; her god-parents, Fran and Joseph Trapani of Watertown; her dear friends, Judy and Larry Musselman of Thomaston; and her boyfriend, Tim Smith of Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 95 Broad St., Plainville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial tree planting will also be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rebecca L. Ibitz Scholarship Fund, c/o Paul Smith's College, PO Box 265, Paul Smith's, NY 12970.

Stephen R. Rivers

MERIDEN -- Stephen R. Rivers, 47, of 19 Blackstone St., husband of Doris (Robinson) Rivers, died on Sunday, May 12, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Malone, N.Y., on July 19, 1954, the son of Lois (Esseltine) Rivers of North Bangor, N.Y., and the late Chester Rivers, he had resided in Meriden for over 30 years. Mr. Rivers was educated in Malone, N.Y., schools and had been employed by Apollo Packaging Co., of Stratford, J&L Tool, Technical Plastic Group and Eyelet Specialty, all of Wallingford. He was a parishioner of the Penticostal Assembly of Apostolic Faith Church of Meriden, of which is sister-in-law, Loretta Kemp is Pastor.

Besides his wife, Doris and his mother, Lois, he is survived by two sons, Elijah A. and Jonathan L. Rivers, both of Meriden; four sisters, Barbara Tomlin of Cromwell, Martha Rivers of Hamden, Terri Rivers and Susan Alford, both of Meriden; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Chester E. Rivers of Meriden, Timothy and Ann Rivers of Wallingford, Charles Rivers of Westville, N.Y., and Michael and Jacqueline Rivers of Meriden. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen R. Rivers Jr.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 10 a.m. in Apostolic Community of Jesus and Ministries, 146 Center St., Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Doris Valeriay

MERIDEN -- Doris (Clavitte) Valeriay, 72, of 54 Melville Ave., South Meriden, wife of the late Fred J. Valeriay, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on June 17, 1929, the daughter of the late Fred and Marie Fortin Clavitte, she had resided in Meriden her entire life. Mrs. Valeriay attended local schools and was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church.

She is survived by two sons, Rick Valeriay of E. Hartford and Wayne A. Valeriay of South Meriden, with whom she resided for six wonderful years; one sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Joe Pecinski of Tilton, N.H.; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Priscilla Clavitte of Laconia, N.H.; also many loving members of the Valeriay family. She was predeceased by a loving Godmother, Delina Brand of Meriden.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Madeline Achino

WALLINGFORD -- Madeline Agosta Achino, 78, of Old Lane, Wallingford, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Achino, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the Skyview Center in Wallingford.

Born in Forestville, Aug. 30, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Corrado and Frances Savasta Agosta and had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. Mrs. Achino had been associated with her late husband, Edward, in the operation of the former My Cousin's Place Restaurant and the former Main Street USA Restaurant, both in Wallingford for many years until their retirements. She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star Mizpah Chapter in Wallingford.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Frank McLeod of Wallingford and Lynn and Joseph Abeleira of North Haven; six grandchildren, Heather Colton, Maghan McCleod, Mary McCleod, Sam McLeod, John Abeleira and Andrew Abeleira; her three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise and William Claffey of Plantsville, Aurora (Mrs. Walter) Zulkowski of Florida., and Flavia and John Gwara of Meriden; her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Dorothy Agosta of New York and Lynn and Rosalie Agosta of the Yalesville section of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Sherry Mangiafico.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford Thursday from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home, Thursday at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford, Friday at 11 a.m. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Skyview Center Recreational Department, 35 Marc Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Rose Mary Arnone

WALLINGFORD -- Rose Mary Arnone, 72, wife of the late Paul Nowatenski, of 520 N. Elm St., Wallingford, formerly of Eagle St., Ansonia, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at the Hartford Hospital following a sudden illness.

Mrs. Arnone was born in Ansonia on July 1, 1929, daughter of the late Anthony and Julia Secondo Arnone. She was a graduate of the former St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing and had worked as a private duty Registered Nurse for several area hospitals until her retirement. One of Rose's favorite hobbies, in which she was admired by many, was her ability to sew and knit.

She is survived by two brothers, Achilles "Kelly" Arnone of Orange and Joseph Arnone of Ansonia; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Thomas Arnone.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Spinelli-Malerba Funeral Home, 62 Beaver St., Ansonia followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peters Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until services.

Malcolm G. Butler

ALAMO Calif. -- Constance R. Butler, 54, formerly of Ridgeland Circle, Wallingford with her husband, Malcolm G. Butler, 56, formerly of Connecticut, died suddenly on Saturday, May 11, 2002 in a motorcycle accident in California.

Born in Wallingford, Connie was the daughter of Eileen Lussier of Wallingford and the late Richard R. Lussier Sr. Malcolm G. Butler was the son of Dorcas G. Armatino of Lyme and the late Richard Butler.

They lived in California for 30 years with their two children, Malcolm Butler and Jessica Maples. The surviving son and wife, Michelle have two children, Malcolm Jr. and Justin; surviving daughter, Jessica Maples and husband, Matt have three children, Joshua, Christopher and Ryleigh; Malcolm is also survived by a brother, Clayton Butler of Connecticut; and two uncles, Malcolm and Raymond Butler of California; Connie leaves behind a brother, Richard Lussier Jr. of New Hampshire; and four sisters, Lizette Story of Connecticut, Shawn Rampulla of New Hampshire, Cheri Bergeron of Vermont and Suzanne Sieff of Connecticut; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, Walnut Creek, California. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to a favorite charity.

Gertrude C. Dwyer

MERIDEN -- Gertrude C. Dwyer, 97, of 220 Dana Lane, South Meriden, wife of the late Maurice F. Dwyer Sr., died on Monday, May 13, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.

Born in New Bedford, Mass., on Oct. 20, 1904, the daughter of the late Timothy and Ann Chadwick, she had resided in Meriden since. 1930. Mrs. Dwyer was educated in Massachusetts schools and was employed by Undercliff Hospital in Meriden as an L.P.N. she was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Carl Panciera of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Maurice F. Jr. and Janice Dwyer of South Meriden; four grandchildren, Carolyn Arthur, David Dwyer, Deborah Powers and Elizabeth Panciera; and four great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, David, Amber and Graham. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Dwyer.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the Mausoleum at Sacred Heart Cemetery, with Rev. Anne Jensen of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Anthony Fucci

MYRTLE BEACH ESTATES, S.C. -- Anthony Fucci, 94, husband of the late Mary Impronto Fucci, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born in New York City, March 9, 1908, the son of the late Savino and Annina Izza Fucci. He was a former resident of Meriden, having lived on Parkview Street for many years. He and his wife were residents of Jersey City, N.J. for several years prior to moving to Meriden. He was a resident of South Carolina for the past year. Mr. Fucci retired in 1996, from operating his own barbershop on Railroad Ave. for many years. He had been active in the Barbers Union. He had attended New York University until the Great Depression. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Meriden.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Robert Tomassetti of South Carolina; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Sally Fucci of Oviedo, Fla.; six grandchildren, Scott Tomassetti of Cheshire, Tami Tomassetti and her fiancee, Michael Simmons of Jacksonville, Fla., Mark Fucci, Christopher Fucci, Stephen Fucci, Melissa and her husband, Scott Baker; two great-grandchildren, Danielle and Anthony Fucci; two cousins, Bena D'Elia and Anthony and his wife, Dolores Lipari, all of New Jersey.

His funeral will be held Thursday, May 16, 2002, gathering in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad Street, at 9:15 a.m. with procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for his 10 a.m. funeral liturgy. He will interred with his wife in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call in the funeral home, Wednesday 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m.
