Bernardo J. Lombardi

MERIDEN - Bernardo J. Lombardi, 84, husband of Marguerite Kildey Lombardi of 59 Colonial Heights, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, in the Brook Hollow Health Care Center, Wallingford.

He was born in Meriden, March 16, 1918, a son of the late Giovanni and Lillian Caccavali Lombardi, he was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Meriden High School. He was Sargent in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Lombardi retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980, after 31 years of employment. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed reading and gardening.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy J. and Deborah Lombardi and a daughter and son-in-law, Meg and Elliott Gardner, all of Meriden; three grandchildren, Michael Lombardi, Gretchen Mulroy and her husband, Dr. Kevin Mulroy and Jeremy Gardner; one great-grandchild, Clare Margaret Mulroy; three sisters, Louise Lombardi of Meriden; Mary Raimo of Florida and Lillian Nester of Ohio; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold Lombardi; and three sisters, Filomena Syme, Jennie Sasso and Nancy Seriani.

His funeral service will be held Monday at 9 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. He will be interred in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with his family in the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Mr. Lombardi's family respectfully requests that he be remembered with contributions to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Box 3704, Memphis, Tenn 38173-0704.

Max L. Resident

MERIDEN - Max L. Resident, 93, of 31 Stoney Brook Road, husband of the late Jean Lassman Resident, died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Russia on April 15, 1909, the son of the late David and Rose Resident, he had resided in Meriden until moving to Wallingford four years ago and had attended Meriden schools. Mr. Resident owned and operated Resident's Furs Inc., of Meriden. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines. He was a member of Temple B'nai Abraham and a member of the following organizations: the Masons, Kiwanis Club, the Retail Trade Board and the Meriden Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Martin Hillman of Wallingford, with whom he resided; three grandchildren, Marsha and her husband, Joe Azukas of Wallingford, Barbara Hillman and her fiance, Erik Remillard of Meriden and Arnold Hillman of Wallingford; two great-granddaughters, Jean and Sara Azukas; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Tillie Resident and Celia Resident.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, June 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Temple B'nai Abraham in Meriden with Rabbi Gloria S. Rubin officiating. Burial will be in B'nai Abraham Cemetery in Meriden. A period of mourning will be held Sunday through Tuesday at the home of the his daughter, Anita Hillman, 31 Stoney Brook Road, Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450 or to Temple B'nai Abraham, 127 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Stefan B. Rycki

SOUTHINGTON - Stefan B. Rycki, 78, of 48 Debbie Drive, Southington, died Friday, June 7, 2002 at UConn Health Center in Farmington. He was the widower of Julia (Lutynski) Rycki.

Born in Warsaw, Poland on Sept. 1, 1923, he was son of the late Bronislaw and Stefania P. (Wasilewska) Rycki. He came to the United States at the age of 27 and has been a Southington resident and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church for over 45 years. Mr. Rycki was a founding member and past vice-president of the Central CT Cycling Club which he was active in for over 30 years. He was a retired employee of Fafnir Bearing Co., where he worked for over 32 years.

Mr. Rycki is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert S. and Carole Rycki of Windsor, Anthony D. and Deborah Rycki of Southington; two daughters and son-in-laws, Patricia A. and Keith Tuller of Barkhamsted, Susan and Glenn Heiser of Bristol; nine grandchildren, Stephen, Jason, Bruce, Brandon and Brett Rycki, Sara Tuller, Breanna, Alyssa, and Sean Heiser.

Funeral will be Monday at 9:15 .a.m. from Della Vecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St., Southington to Immaculate Conception Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Ray E. Tenerow

MERIDEN - Ray E. Tenerow, 69, died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Meriden Center with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Meriden on July 11, 1932, son of the late John and Nora Majewski Tenerowicz of Meriden, he was a graduate of H.C. Wilcox Technical School and took engineering courses at Hartford State Technical College. Until his retirement in Aug. 1989, he was employed as a quality control engineer with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in E. Hartford for 25 years. He had been previously employed as a quality control engineer at United Nuclear Corporation, New Haven, and at General Dynamics/Electric Boat, Groton. His job required extensive travel throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Scandinavian countries, and Israel, assisting many Pratt & Whitney Aircraft suppliers. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Missouri. Prior to that he served in the prestigious U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard in Washington , D.C. for two and one-half years. Prior to this illness, he was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and the following Meriden fraternal clubs: Polish Knights Club (where he outstandingly served on the house committee,) Polish Falcons Clubs Nest 68, Polish Legion of American Veterans and the North Italian Home Club.

He is survived by his brothers, John L. Tenerow and Peter A. Tenerowicz, both of Naples, Fla., Robert J. Tenerowicz of Bristol, Edward Tenerowicz of Washington State; a sister, Joan C. Tenerowicz of Hamden; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jeanette St. Onge and Helen Stelmach.

The funeral will be held on Monday, June 10, at 8:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. His family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. He will be interred with full military honors at a graveside service at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that contributions in his memory be made to St. Stanislaus Church and School, 82 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450, MidState VNA & Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450 or to the charity of one's choice.

Sylvia Benson

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- Sylvia Marie Benson, 65, of 107 Elliot St., died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Born in Walpole, N.H., on Nov. 29, 1936, she was a daughter of Joseph and Amy Dumais Murdy. She had been employed at Margolins for 20 years, the Book Press for seven years and Fulflex for eight years. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and was a guest member of the VFW. She loved fishing and cooking.

She is survived by her father of Barnsville, Ga.; five brothers, Joseph Murdy of Anchorage, Ala., John Murdy of Powder Springs, Ga., and William Murdy, Edward Sherman and Robert Dumais, all of Meriden; two sisters, Mary Avery of Eastlake, Ohio, and Roseanna Sobol of Meriden; a brother, Leo Dumais; her longtime special friend, Ellen Cutler; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Dumais.

Funeral services were held Friday morning, at Ker, Westerlund & Fleming Funeral Home. Her brother, Pastor Edward Sherman of the Church of Restoration in Meriden, officiated. Burial followed the service at Chesterfield Wedst Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were nephews, Michael Murdy, Brian Murdy, William Murdy Jr., James Murdy, David Murdy, John Murdy Jr., and James Sobol, all of Meriden. A reception for family and friends was held at the Eagles Club following the service.

Grace LaRussa

WALLINGFORD -- Grace Arrao LaRussa, 75, of Hallmark Hill Drive, formerly of Forest Road, Wallingford, and Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, June 6, 2002, in the Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla. She was the beloved wife of Anthony LaRussa.

Born in Boston, Mass., June 20, 1926, a daughter of the late Anthony and Lillian Crisafulli Arrao, she had been a Wallingford resident for 43 years and also had been a resident of Port Charlotte, Fla. for 16 years. She had been employed by the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford, for 19 years until her retirement in 1986. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Besides her beloved husband, Anthony, Mrs. LaRussa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Robert Allen of Wallingford; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas A. and Roxanne LaRussa of McKinney, Texas , and Anthony J. and Ann LaRussa of Wallingford; her two grandchildren, Taylor Allen and Michael LaRussa; her brother, Salvatore Arrao of Belmont, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Maria Berlinghieri.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Tuesday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.

Norman A. Priebe

WALLINGFORD -- Norman A. Preibe, 86, of North Main St. Ext., beloved husband of the late Katherine M. Mrowka Priebe, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Priebe was born in Meriden, March 1, 1916, a son of the late Ernest and Louise Cossette Priebe, and had been a Wallingford resident for the past 52 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had been employed by the New Departure Division of General Motors for many years until his retirement. He was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church, where he had been a choir member, was active on the bazaar committee and was a member of the Men's Club. He had been a member of the Lyman Hall High School Music Parents Association. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn fan.

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda L. and Frederic A. Roth of Holland, Mass., and Patricia K. and George J. Popovich of Wallingford; his son, Raymond B. Kowalczyk of Kresgeeville, Pa.; five grandchildren, Kari L. Sullivan, Brian P. Roth, Michael D. Roth, Kim Kowalczyk, and Ellen Mooney; six great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Janice Proctor of Lawrence, Kansas, and Sandra Twiss of Hudson, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Valerie (Mrs. Ernest Priebe Jr.) of Madison; a brother-in-law, Joseph Mrowka of Durham; and his beloved cat, Herman. He was predeceased by his grandson, Scott B. Popovich; and his brother, Ernest Priebe Jr.

His family will receive relatives and friends, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford. Funeral services will be held Tuesday from the Wallingford funeral Home at 9:30 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church, Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to SS. Peter and Paul Church, 139 North Orchard St., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Elizabeth E. Slie

WALLINGFORD -- Elizabeth E. Slie, 79, of 104 1/2 Cheshire Road, wife of the late Raymond T. Slie Sr., died June 6, 2002.

She was the aunt of Elinor Szekunda and Raymond Szekunda, both of Long Beach, Calif.; step-mother of James R. Slie Sr. of Wallingford.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, CT Affiliate, Inc. 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Joaquin Carrion

MERIDEN -- Joaquin Carrion, 89, of 1 Lincoln Terrace, husband of the late Ramona Oquendo Carrion, died Saturday, June 8, 2002.

Born Aug. 8, 1912, in Vega Alta, P. R., he was the son of the late Reymundo and Angela Mercado Carrion. Mr. Carrion had resided in Meriden for many years and had attended schools in Puerto Rico. He was employed by Carabetta Builders for over 20 years. Mr. Carrion was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of the Latin American Society Club and the Latin American Domino Club.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carmen Crespo and her husband, Francisco Pabon and Lucy Lespier, all of Meriden; and four sons and a daughter-in-law, Pedro Carrion, Francisco and Del Fina Carrion, Geraldo Carrion and Richard Randell, all of Meriden. He is also survived by many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ricarda Pagan Carrion of Vega Alta, P. R.; and a brother, Loa Carrion of Vega Alta, P.R.; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Carrion was predeceased by his wife, Ramona Carrion, daughter, Julia Cruz-Carrion; brothers, Norberto (Teto) Carrion, Jesus Carrion; and grandson, Jose Rafael Collazo.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Shelter, 43 St. Casimir Drive, Meriden, CT 06450, or the Latin American Society, 399 So. Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451.
