Florence L. Phelan

SOUTHINGTON -- Mrs. Florence L. Duefrane Phelan, age 87, of Rustic Oak Drive, Southington, formerly of Sebastian, FL, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Gardner Heights Healthcare Center, Shelton. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter H. Phelan Sr.

Daughter of the late Edward and Florence Walsh Duefrane, she was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Waterbury, CT. Mrs. Phelan was the city clerk for Sebastian, FL, for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Sebastian Civic Association, St. Jude Bikeathoners in Florida, and a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella in Cheshire.

Mrs. Phelan is survived by a daughter, Florence S. Raczynski and her husband, Francis, of Southington; a son, Harold J. Phelan of Chatilly, VA; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Walter H. Phelan Jr.

Funeral at 8:15 a.m. from the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., on the Green, Milford, Saturday followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Milford. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Milford. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905, or the charity of one's choice.

William R. Andrews Sr.

CLERMONT, Fla. -- A memorial service will be held for William R. Andrews Sr. on June 22, 2002, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, 23 South Main St. Interment will follow at the In Memoriam Cemetery, 18 Maplewood Ave., Wallingford.

Mr. Andrews, 85, of 11730 US Highway 27, #11, Clermont, Fla., formerly of Wallingford, died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, after a long illness. He had owned and operated with his wife, the Andrews Shoppe in Wallingford. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eleanor Robinson Andrews; his six children, Gail and Harry White of Clermont, Fla., Bill and Lonnie Andrews of Zephyrhills, Fla., Susan and bill Alexander of Huntingdon, Pa., Ellie and Jim Sevdy of Stillwater, Minn., John and Lisa Andrews of Wallingford, Shelley and Tom Duchesne of Lebanon, Conn.; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters.

Infant Alyssa Rae Handle

MERIDEN -- Infant Alyssa Rae Handle died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at MidState Medical Center. She was the daughter of George L. Handle III and Dawn Alba.

She leaves her paternal grandparents, George L. and Lucille Handle of Cheshire; paternal great-grandmother, Lillian Handel of Westbrook; brother, Shane Tyler Berube-Alba; and sisters, Crystal Handle of Charlotte, N.C. and Corrine Alexis Alba of Meriden; also, Uncle Vincent and Aunt Debra Guarino, Aunt Sharon Fede, both of Cheshire, and Uncle Jeff and Aunt Paula Alba of Sellinsgrove, Pa.; and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Helen M. Nadwairski

MERIDEN -- Helen M. Nadwairski, 84,of 43 Linsley Ave., died peacefully in her home on Friday evening, June 14, 2002, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 8, 1917, the daughter of Julius and Mary (Gavronski) Dabrowski of the Milldale section of Southington, she graduated from New Canaan High School, class of 1936. Helen lived in Meriden for the past 55 years. For many years she was an active member of St. Joseph Parish Church. She served on many committees and worked on various projects. She was a member of "The Children of Mary Sodality", the Mothers' Circles, the Meriden Council of Catholic Women, and Past President of the Rosary Society, where she leaves behind many wonderful friends. For 36 years she assisted her husband, Stanley, in caring for the altars, the linens and vestments under the strict rubrics of the time, and decorated the sanctuary for the numerous liturgical services and holy days. At the age of 53, after raising her six boys, Helen entered the workforce at Graeber's Pharmacy, where she worked for 31 years, before retiring in December of 2001. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and co-workers there.

Helen leaves behind four sons, Steven and Millie (Kawczynski) Nadwairski of Port Richey, Fla., John and Mary (O'Brien) Nadwairski of Boxborough, Mass., Joseph and Sally (Adams) Nadwairski of Clinton, and William Nadwairski and Geraldo Franca of Meriden, with whom she resided. She also leaves behind two loving and devoted daughters-in-law, Linda (Nadwairski) Smith and Jacqueline (Fuda) Nadwairski; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, each and every one of whom Helen was proud and loved dearly. She departs this world to join her husband, Stanley J. Nadwairski, retired s3exton of St. Joseph Church, to whom she was married for 60 years; and two of their children, Thomas Nadwairski and Julian Nadwairski. Helen was also predeceased by a sister, Tillie Ruttan of Fresno, Calif.; a grandchild, Brian; and a great-grandchild, Briana.

The funeral will be held on Monday, June 17, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Southington, where Stanley and Helen will be together again. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to MidState VNA & Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450, whose care and support made Helen's last days quite comfortable.

Blanche D. Williams

MERIDEN -- Blanche Dolores Williams, of South Meriden, wife of Arthur F. Williams, died Friday night at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Born Jan. 23, 1920, in Waterbury, the daughter of Albert and Angelina Occhiati Verdosci, she had resided in Meriden and South Meriden for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Holy Cross High School in Waterbury. Mrs. Williams worked at Cheshire Manufacturing Company in Cheshire, for many years before retiring. Blanche will always be remembered as a true "Italian Mother" who delighted in cooking and caring for her family. She loved to play a game of cards after dinner. She was a great fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn Women's Basketball.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her beloved son, Bill Williams and his wife, Carole of Meriden; two grandchildren, Bill Jr. of Meriden and Tony of Prescott, Ariz. She is also survived by one niece, Anita Egan of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; three nephews, Albert Verdosci and Richard Piccirillo of Meriden, and Ronald Verdosci of Thomaston; and several grandnieces and nephews. She leaves behind a very dear friend, Marie Reardon of Waterbury and of course, her dog, Jodie. Mrs. Williams was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Arthur and Mario; and her sisters, Albina Piccirillo and Mary Mulvey.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 19th at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

Mary C. Biondo

MERIDEN -- Mary C. Biondo, formerly of 147 Hillcrest Terrace, wife of the late Mauro Biondo, died Sunday, June 16, 2002.

Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Ludovico and Pasqualini Tessitore Spignesi. She had resided in Meriden for most of her life and had attended New Haven schools. Mrs. Biondo and her late husband owned and operated the Charm Beauty Salon for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Johanna Biondo of California; a granddaughter, Rhea Biondo; a sister, Jeanne Mitchell of Guilford; a brother, Henry Spignesi of Washington , D.C. and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Biondo was predeceased by a sister, Emma Mondo; and four brothers, Leo, John, Richard and Louis Spignesi.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, Tuesday, June 18, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Harry W. Hamilton

MERIDEN -- Harry w. Hamilton, 85, of 512 New Hanover Ave., died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at CT Hospital in Branford. He was the husband of Lois Rogers Hamilton.

He was born in Middletown, Nov. 18, 1916, a son of the late Harold Katherine Conlan Hamilton. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Until his retirement, he was a tool inspector at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and James Singer of Wallingford; two step-sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward and Margo Jacobowitz of Wallingford, Paul Jacobowitz of Meriden; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Lynes of Meriden; two grandsons, Paul Singer and Matthew Singer; six step-grandchildren, Joseph, Brian and Keith Jacobowitz, John, Thomas and Samantha Lynes; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Abigail and Molly Singer. He was predeceased by a grandson, John Scott Singer.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Road, Wallingford. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to Holy Trinity School, 11 North Whittlesey Ave., Wallingford, CT 06492. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street is in charge of arrangements.

Vicente Aguilar

MEXICO -- Vicente Aguilar, 16, died suddenly Thursday, June 7, 2002 in Mexico. He was the son of Micaela Funetes.

He leaves behind three younger brothers here in the U.S.A., and a brother, Artemio Aguilar; and a sister, Cecilia Aguilar, who is employed by T.I. Group in Meriden.

Charles Agro

TERRYVILLE -- Charles Agro, 84, of 10 N. Lakeside Drive, died Sunday, June 16, 2002 at the Bristol Hospital. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Lois Agro.

Born June 18, 1917 in Meriden, and worked as a tile setter for many years and then retired from Pratt & Whitney.

He leaves behind three sons, Charles Jr., Robert, Tyrone; two daughters, Ramona and Deborah; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; also his sister, Julia Muratore of Meriden.

Funeral services will be held at Central Baptist Church, 1505 West St., Southington, Thursday, June 20, at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., in Bristol.

John V. Guerin

SOUTHINGTON -- John V. Guerin, 93, of Prospect St., in the Plantsville section of Southington died Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Theresa Minarovich.

Born in New York City, Sept. 1, 1908, the son of the late John and Carrie Nemec Guerin. John had been a Southington resident since 1952. He retired as a Sergeant from the New York City Police Department after more than 20 years of service and later retired from Pratt and Whitney in 1970. He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church and was a former member of the K of C.

In addition to his wife, Theresa, John is survived by four sons, John Guerin of Biddeford, Maine., Neil Guerin of Marshfield, Mass., George Guerin of Atlanta, Ga., and Kenneth Guerin of Plantsville; and three daughters, Paula Guerin of Waterbury, Patricia Heaphy of Memphis, Tenn., and Barbara Palmieri of Wolcott; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow in Immaculate Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
